Rose Stastny
Rose M. Stastny, 96, Mandan, died March 2, 1998, in a Mandan nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Weber officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday, both at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.
Rose was born May 26, 1901, on the family farm south of Mandan, the daughter of Fred and Barbara (Goller) Kilian. She attended rural school. She married Anton Stastny on May 26, 1926, in Mandan. They farmed on her parents farm, where she lived all her life. Anton died on Oct. 18, 1956.
She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, and the Z.C.B.J. Bohemian Lodge No. 147.
She is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Harry and Linda, Harold, and Glenn and Mavis, and Lucille, all of Mandan; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton; one son, Leon; three brothers, Karl, and two brothers who died in infancy; and two sisters, Mary Laubner and Bertha Graf. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)
E. Bernice Schweigert
Ellen Bernice "Bee" Schweigert, 72, died March 2, 1998, in a Powell, Wyo. nursing home after a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at Bismarck Baptist Home Chapel.
Bernice was born Jan. 17, 1926, in Mobridge, S.D., to Albert and Agnes (Lund) Brown. She was raised and educated in Glenham, S.D. Following her graduation from high school, she attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen. She taught fourth grade in McLaughlin. It was there that she met Theodore "Teddy" Schweigert, and they were married Nov. 16, 1947. They continued to make their home in McLaughlin, where Ted and his father owned Schweigert Chevrolet. Bernice was active in the Happy Larks Extension Club and Order of Eastern Star.
In 1969, the family moved to Minot, where Ted owned and operated Ted Schweigert Volkswagen, Inc. They sold the dealership in 1976. In 1991, Bernice moved to Bismarck to be near Ted while he was a resident of New Horizons Unit at the Baptist Home. Ted passed away in 1994. In March 1997, Bernice moved to Powell, Wyo, where she resided at the Rocky Mountain Manor. Although her stay there was short, she made many new friends and enjoyed viewing the mountains from her patio.
Bernice enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and fishing with her dad in her younger days. She also had a love of music and was an excellent pianist. She was a kind, thoughtful and giving person. Her eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren were the highlight of her life.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Karen, Powell, Wyo., and their children, Melissa, Tyson, Molly Bee and Tessa; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy Shanta, Bismarck, and her children, Amy Parham and Bethany Shanta, and Lana and Art Anderson, Minot, and their children, Tara and Nathan; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Colton Parham; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lyman and Hunsy Brown, Janesville, Wis., and Chuck and Sheila Brown, Winchester, Va.; one sister, Laurel Jean Anderson, Troy, N.Y.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Larry Miedema
Larry E. Miedema, 46, Bismarck, died March 1, 1998, in Nashville, Tenn. of natural causes. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jeff Tengesdal officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from noon to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at Bismarck Funeral Home.
Larry Ernest Miedema was born Jan. 26, 1952, in Valley City, the son of Ernest and Darlene (Sortland) Miedema. He grew up in Valley City and graduated from Valley City High School in 1970. He attended Valley City State College for three years.
On June 24, 1972, he was married to Cathy Schmidt in Valley City. To this union their daughter, Heather, was born on Dec. 31, 1977. During this time, Larry was part owner of Auction City Sales in Valley City. In June 1991, the family moved to Bismarck. Larry was employed with Conlin's Furniture as a manager. At the time of his death, he was employed with Creative Industries of Kenmare.
Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing, but the loves of his life were his wife and daughter.
Larry is survived by his wife, Cathy; his daughter, Heather, Bismarck; his parents, Ernie and Darlene, Valley City; one brother and sister-in-law, Darryl and Debby, Sarasota, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Gwen and Dwight Schmidt, Jamestown; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wally and Bea Schmidt, Mandan; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Craig and Lorra Schmidt, Dalles, Texas; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Connie and Dave Challey, Hankinson; seven nieces and nephews; and many family and friends.

Elizabeth Armbrust
DICKINSON -- Elizabeth Armbrust, 99, Dickinson, died Feb. 27, 1998, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Dickinson, with the Rev. Bob Kavaney officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson, where a rosary will be said at 7 tonight.
Elizabeth Armbrust, a daughter of Mike and Elizabeth (Wilhelm) Armbrust, was born Sept. 1, 1898, and raised on the family farm eight miles south of Dickinson. On Nov. 22, 1921, she married George Armbrust at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dickinson. They farmed north of Belfield for 33 years. They retired and moved to Dickinson in 1953. George died Nov. 3, 1969. Elizabeth moved to the Evergreen Retirement in 1991. She entered St. Luke's Nursing Home in December 1997.
She enjoyed embroidery, needlework and sewing. Elizabeth was a member of St. Ann's Altar Society.
She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Frank and Shirley, Fort Rice, Joseph C. and Katherine, Belfield, George, Dickinson, and Edward and Shari, Davenport, Iowa; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bertha and Bob Makolin, Lake Linden, Mich., and Anna Marie and Ray Kilen, Dickinson; one daughter-in-law, Maryann Armbrust, Fargo; 30 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Appolonia (Miller) Dolejak, Dickinson; and one brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Mary Miller, Woodenville, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 13 brothers and sisters; one son, Marcus; one daughter, Magdalena; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Cathryn Woodcox
Cathryn E. "Katie" Woodcox, 84, 1521 Harmon Ave., died March 4, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Stephen Wisthoff and Stanley Malmgren officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Cathryn Knicklebine was born Dec. 18, 1913, in Rochester, Ind., the daughter of Albert and Addie (Ames) Knicklebine. After graduating from Rochester High School, she worked several years for Otto McMahan and Armour Creameries in Rochester. She married Elmer "Bill" Woodcox, Nov. 2, 1940, in Rochester. They had two sons, Steve and Jerry. They moved to Bismarck in 1949. She was the bookkeeper at Arrowhead Cleaners and Laundry for many years.
She was a member of Eastern Star of Bismarck, a life member of Rebekkah Lodge of Rochester, and a past nobel grand of that lodge. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bismarck. She and her family had many pleasurable summers at West Leaf Lake in Ottertail, Minn., where they enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Lynn, Dallas, and Jerry and Donna, Bismarck; eight grandchildren; one brother, Harold Knicklebine, Pueblo, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers.
The family prefers memorials to First Baptist Church, Bismarck.
Regina Miller
Regina Catherine Miller, 84, Mandan, died March 3, 1998, in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Jacob Schumacher officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery, with full military rites provided by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 707 and American Legion Post No. 40.
Visitation begins today from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. and a parish vigil will follow at 8:00 p.m., all tonight at Weigel Funeral Home.
Regina was born July 31, 1913 in the Mandan Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Paul and Magdalena (Graner) Miller. She was raised and educated in St. Anthony and Mandan, graduating from Mandan Senior High School in 1931. Regina entered the Woman's Army Corps serving her country from September 1, 1943 until February 17, 1946. She was an elementary teacher from 40 years in Mott, Dickinson, and Mandan, and Montana, retiring in 1975.
She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Retired Teachers Association and the Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed needlework, reading and caring for her relatives. She enjoyed dining with her retired teachers group.
She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Vivian, Mandan, and Paul and Donna, Huff; two sisters, Bette Rader, Lombard, Ill., and Marty Jocewicz, Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Clem; and two sisters, Viola Mann and Bernice Day. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)
Violet Stockert
Violet Stockert, 71, Bismarck, died March 3, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in the spring.
Visitation will begin from 5-8 p.m. Friday, at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Violet Katherine Ritchey was born October 29, 1926 in Bismarck, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Anunsen) Ritchey. Violet was married on Dec. 28, 1946 to Walter Stockert in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bismarck.
Violet loved to read and work puzzles.
She is survived by her husband, Walter; one daughter, Peggi Walters, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Constance, Bismarck, and Randy, Bismarck; six grandchildren, Michal Sprecher, Nicole Berg, Lynette Stockert, Richard B. Stockert, Jennifer Murray, and Shana Stockert; four brothers, John, Frank, Robert, and William Ritchey; four sisters, Margaret Stumpf, Jean Bannett, Annette Fleck, and Patty Kleinsasser; and many relatives and friends.

Robert Bachler
ALMONT -- Robert "Bobby" Bachler, 59, Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Almont, died March 3, 1998, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held on March 7, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Cincinnati. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cincinnati.
Robert was born and raised west of Almont. He graduated from Almont High School in 1956. He then joined the Air Force and served in Germany, where he met his wife, Renate in Berlin. They made their home in Cincinnati, where he worked and retired as a postal carrier.
Bobby is survived by loving wife, Renate; three children and their spouses, Christopher and Amy, Michelle and Ed Korte, all of Cincinnati, and Jenny Bachler, Las Vegas; four granddaughters, Sarah and Savannah Bachler and Paige and Lacy Bachler; his mother, Anna Bachler, Mandan; five brothers, Edward and Viola, Almont, Ernest and Alice, White Sulphur Springs, Mont., Tony and Cecilia, and Marlin and Virginia, all of Seattle, Wash., and John and Jean, Redmond, Wash.; and five sisters, Caroline and Ed Barth, Glen Ullin, Lucille Bachler, Modesto, Calif., Annamary and Tony Steckler, Elgin, Maxine and Jim Cook, Kent, Wash., and Linda and Jim Geiger, Mandan.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, John.
