Harold McBride
WILLISTON -- Harold A. McBride, 82, Williston, died Dec. 5, 1997, in the Williston nursing home. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Union Church, Williston, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

Carl Radke
UNDERWOOD -- Carl E. Radke, 80, Underwood, died Dec. 5, 1997, in the Turtle Lake hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Underwood, with burial in Underwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Goetz Funeral Home, Underwood, and at the church one hour before services Tuesday.
Carl Edward Radke was born Aug. 25, 1917, near Underwood, to Edward and Carrie (Schafer) Radke. He grew up in Underwood where he attended school, graduating from Underwood High School in 1935.
Carl farmed for several years. On Sept. 15, 1940, he married Esther Kessler at Underwood. They made their home in Minot and Harvey, where he was employed with Red Owl Inc. before moving back to Underwood, where he farmed.
In 1946 he became employed by S.J. Vonderhiede at the Outlaw Trading Co., which he purchased in 1962 and has been in the grocery business since. In 1975 they expanded and built a larger building, which is now known as Radke's Super Valu. He semi-retired in 1982, turning the management over to two of his sons, Curtis and Richard.
Carl was active in community affairs, serving on the fire department, city commission and civic club. He was active at First Baptist Church where he was a charter member, Sunday school superintendent and moderator. He was also an observer for the National Weather Service for many years and was recognized for this achievement.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Radke; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Curtis and Doreen and Richard and Jacque, all of Underwood, and Eugene of Bismarck; three grandchildren, Corrie Kuntz, Jennifer Radke and Chauncey Radke; five step-grandchildren, Glen and Kathy Williams, DeAnn Boschert and Monte and Laurel Miller; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Valish of Salem, Ore., and Idella Hinshaw of Scio, Ore.; one brother, Ernest, Dallas, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews.

BEULAH -- Marie Renner, 94, Beulah, died Dec. 5, 1997, in the Beulah nursing home. Services will be 10 a.m. MST Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

WASHBURN -- Richard L. Slovarp, 56, Washburn, died Dec. 6, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn.
Christopher Chase
Christopher John Chase, 21, formerly of Mandan, died on Dec. 6, 1997, in Seattle, Wash. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a prayer service will be said at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home also.
Chris was born on Nov. 4, 1976, in Bismarck. He attended Cathedral Grade School until fifth grade when his family moved to Mandan, and he attended Central and Roosevelt grade schools, Mandan Junior High and graduated from Mandan High School in 1995.
He was an inspiration to anyone who came in contact with him. His quick wit, sparkling blue eyes and little boy charm endeared him to everyone that knew him. He was a loving son, grandson, brother and friend.
Chris played hockey from first grade through his junior year in high school, but had earlier discovered his love and talent for music and continued pursuing that love until the day he died. He was in concert choir for three years at Mandan High School and with the help of friends he recorded several tapes and CDs of original music. He was a talented musician, artist and poet, who shared his unique view of life through his works.
He spent two years since finishing high school, traveling and discovering new places, but returned home on several occasions needing to be encircled by the love of his family and friends.
He was currently living in Seattle, Wash., with the love of his life, Valencia Ganje, where he was attending the University of Washington and working as a bike courier.
He will be greatly missed by his parents, Monte and Grace Chase; two brothers, Scott and Nathan, and one sister, Becky, all of Mandan; his grandparents, Viola Henrikson, Valley City, Annette and Vern Krinke, Auburn, Wash., Monroe Chase, Mandan, and Paul and Gloria Porter, Bismarck; his special loving friend, Valencia Ganje; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Richard Slovarp
WASHBURN -- Richard L. Slovarp, 56, Washburn, died Dec. 6, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital after an extended illness. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Edwin's Catholic Church Washburn.
A rosary service will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Tim Luithle, Bismarck; one son, Richard Jr., Washburn; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Jacob Luithle, Bismarck; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Victor Skaff, Bismarck, and Beverly and Earl Sorensen, Salem, Ore.; and one brother, Duane, Apache Junction, Ariz. Anna Willer
DICKINSON -- Anna M. "Ann" Willer, 80, Dickinson, died March 25, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with the Rev. Jerry Kautzman officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Dickinson.
Casketbearers will be Tom Schneider, Ron Urlacher, Duane Urlacher, Bob Lefor, Anton Willer and Mitch Chaska. Special music will be provided by June Peters, organist and Sue and Gene Jackson, song leaders.
Ann Willer, a daughter of Stephen and Julie (Lefor) Dassinger, was born on April 18, 1917. She was raised on a farm south of Gladstone. As a young adult, she worked at Reeds Department Store in Dickinson. On Oct. 20, 1941, she married Peter F. "Pete" Willer in Gladstone. Ann was a good conversationalist, who would discuss or debate any subject. She loved to read and was well-read on a variety of subjects. She completed her high school education at Gladstone High School, receiving her diploma in three years.
Ann's life was devoted to her husband, Pete, who preceded her in death by 97 days, and to her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchild and her church. She was a troop leader for Catholic Daughters, a member of Christian Mothers, and was an excellent seamstress. She loved gardening and giving the fruits of her labor to her family. She will be greatly missed by all who love her.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Jean, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Jim Bartow, Woodbury, Minn., and Leone and Bob Pavel, Dickinson; five grandchildren, Lonnie (Willer) Smith and her husband, Rick, Chad Willer, Craig Bartow, Heather Bartow and Kristin Pavel and one great-grandson, Jordan Smith; three sisters, Sue Thomas, Dickinson, Carolyn Schneider, Mandan, and Clarine Urlacher, Taylor; and one brother, Anton Dassinger, Billings, Mont.

Ted Barnick
WASHBURN -- Ted J. Barnick, 75, Washburn, died March 25, 1998, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Washburn Baptist Church, Washburn. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Ted J. Barnick was born on Feb. 21, 1923, in Max to John and Stacy (Kankovsky) Barnick. He was raised and educated in Max, graduating from Max High School in 1939. He then attended NDSU in Fargo. While there, he played football and was on the all-conference football team. He was in the R.O.T.C. program and then served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 during World War II. He was a Second Lieutenant and was a prisoner of war and also received two purple hearts. After his discharge, he returned to NDSU and graduated with a bachelor's of science degree in Agriculture. He married Ethel Cash in 1951 in Moorhead, Minn. They made their home in Washburn, where he farmed and had a John Deere dealership.
He was a member of Washburn Baptist Church and he received his prisoner of war medal on Sept. 15, 1989, on P.O.W./M.I.A. Day in Minot.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel; one son, Jay, Washburn; two daughters, Kathy Dietz, Fargo, and Nancy Sweckard, Duluth, Minn.; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Mabel Semchenko, Minot, Frances Barnick, Seattle, Wash., and Helen Barnick, Madison, Wis. Woodrow Pettis
Woodrow W. Pettis, 79, formerly of Bismarck, died March 25, 1998, in Rapid City, S.D. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck, with the Rev. Tom Dunham officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.
Woodrow W. Pettis was born July 9, 1918, in Linton, the son of George and Matilda Pettis. He was raised and educated in Wing and also in Minnesota. He married Ella Ruff in 1952 in Bismarck. Woodrow worked for Armors Creamery and Yegen-Bridgeman Dairy. After his retirement, he worked for Kirkwood Super Valu.
Woodrow enjoyed fishing, wood whittling and watching baseball.
He is survived by one son, Arlo, Rapid City; two daughters, Etta Ann Grace, Gillette, Wyo., and Tammy Jones, Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.
