Nick Torzeski
Nick C. Torzeski, 69, Thousand Oaks, Calif., formerly of Bismarck, died Nov. 13, 1997, in Hendersonville, N.C. following a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his wife, Janice.
Marjorie Whitney
JAMESTOWN -- Marjorie A. Whitney, 78, Jamestown, died Dec. 3, 1997, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Burial will be in Ypsilanti Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon; three sons, Robert and Lyle, both of Ypsilanti, and Dean of Jamestown; three daughters, Linda Deede of Carrington, Marlene Kuntz of Ypsilanti and Charlene Kamphuis of Mandan; and two sisters, Bernice Clark of Vacaville, Calif., and Genevieve Gullickson of Valley City. Robert Zutt
Robert L. Zutt, 82, Port Angeles, Wash., formerly of Stanton, died Nov. 29, 1997, in a Port Angeles hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Harper Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, Port Angeles. Burial will be in Mount Angeles Memorial Park, Port Angeles.
Robert "Bob" Zutt was born July 19, 1915, in Stanton, where he grew up and was educated. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps until joining the U.S. Navy for many years.
He was then in the U.S. Coast Guard until retiring and became a part owner of a lumber mill in Port Angeles for several years.
After retirement, he enjoyed traveling to visit relatives and friends and attending reunions each year with his CCC group, Navy and Coast Guard and the Pearl Harbor Survivors. Bob married Madeline Schwartz of Hazen, and they had a son, Ken, who now lives in Vancouver, Wash.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Sandra of Vancouver; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Eldora and Walter Kinnischtzke and Doris and Dick Flurer, both of Bismarck; and three nieces and four nephews, Karen Morrow, Nancy Light, Laura Zabel, Gene Stephens, Jerry Russell, Larry Kinnischtzke and Bob Kinnischtzke.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline; one sister, Gladys Stephens; and one brother, James Russell.
Agnes Hipfner
BEULAH -- Agnes Selma Hipfner, 90, formerly of Beulah, died Dec. 4, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Beulah.

George Hecker
DICKINSON -- George Hecker, 89, Dickinson, died Dec. 4, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Monday at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson, with burial in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Belfield.
He is survived by two sons, Luke, Kansas City, Mo., and Greg, Atlanta; two brothers, Leonard, Yakima, Wash., and Ralph, Dickinson; and one sister, Margaret, Missoula, Mont.
Margaret Zimbrick
KILLDEER -- Margaret F. Zimbrick, 95, formerly of Killdeer, died Nov. 27, 1997, in Fairbury, Ill. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Monday at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Dickinson.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara McReynolds, Fairbury, Ill.; two sons, Robert, Dickinson, and John, Lafayette, Ind.; one brother, Frank DeFea, Dickinson; and one sister, Mary Morgen, Minneapolis. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)
Mildred Raad
RAY -- Mildred Raad, 83, Ray, died Dec. 3, 1997, in the Stanley nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Ray Lutheran Church, with burial in Rainbow Valley Cemetery.

Eugene Heidrich
STRASBURG -- Eugene M. Heidrich, 77, Strasburg, died Dec. 4, 1997, in his home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona; two daughters, Mary Baumgartner, Strasburg, and Lori Carlson, Northwood; three brothers, Harry, Linton, and Magnus and Max, both of Strasburg; and two sisters, Hermina Jochim, Strasburg, and Veronica Paul, Arvada, Colo. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)
Nick Leingang
Nick J. Leingang, 82, Renton, Wash., died Dec. 4, 1997, in a Renton hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home, Renton, with burial in Greenwood Memorial Park.
Nick was born Dec. 15, 1914, at St. Anthony, where he was raised. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp during the Depression and the Los Angeles ship yards during World War II. He moved to Spokane, Wash. after the war, where he was employed as an iron worker. He married Amelia Mossbrucker in 1936. He retired in 1976 and moved to Renton.
He was a member of Eagles, National Shopmen's Union and Foresters. Nick enjoyed bowling and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Amelia; one son, Bob, Bellevue, Wash.; three daughters, Shirley Barton, Bellevue, Dorothy Thate, Grand Forks, British Columbia, Canada, and Kathy Shook, Spokane; one brother, Joe, Mandan; two sisters, Mary Frohlich and Francis Haugarth, both of Bismarck; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family prefers memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
Arlo Helm
MCCLUSKY -- Arlo Helm, 53, Garrison, died Dec. 4, 1997, in the Garrison nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, McClusky, with burial in McClusky Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky.
Arlo was born Dec. 19, 1943, in Bismarck, the son of Fred and Ella Helm. He was raised and educated in the Denhoff area. He lived at home with his parents until 1976 and then lived in Bismarck, Fargo and most recently, in Grand Forks. He lived at St. Ann's Care Center in Grand Forks. In September, he moved to the Garrison Nursing Center.
He is survived by his mother, Ella Helm, Underwood; nine brothers, Delaino, Ron and Darvis, all of Bismarck, Duane, Turtle Lake, Richard and Arvin, both of Kief, Bernell, Chicago, Darrell, Underwood, and Arlan, Wilton; four sisters, Paulette Sommer, West Fargo, Linda Parsons, McClusky, Connie Yi, North Las Vegas, Nev., and Darla Logue, Eugene, Ore.
Lance Boehm
Lance Robert Boehm, 14, died at his home Dec. 4, 1997. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a prayer service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Lance was born April 12, 1983, in Bismarck, the son of Leonard L. and Debra (Ogard) Boehm Jr. He was a freshman at Mandan High School. Lance had many interests. He played hockey for the Mandan Bantams Hockey Team, and enjoyed skiing, boating, snowboarding, hunting, skating and motorcycles. He had a positive attitude and was known for his smile and had a special relationship with his brothers, looking up to his older brother and took care of his younger brother. He was the pride and joy of his parents. Lance had many friends who will miss him.
He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his parents, Leonard L. Jr. and Debra, Mandan; his grandparents, Charles and Carol Ogard, Fargo, and Leonard and Delores Boehm, Bismarck; and two brothers, Lee and Charlie, both of Mandan.

GOLDEN VALLEY -- Robert Backfisch, 81, Golden Valley, died Dec. 6, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. MST Tuesday at Golgotha Lutheran Church, Golden Valley. Further arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.
Arbadella Brandner
Arbadella "Arbie" G. Brandner, 58, 611 Third Ave. S.E., Mandan, died Dec. 5, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Paul Fisk officiating. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek.
Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Ser-vice and at the church one hour before services on Tuesday.
Arbadella G. Brandner was born June 2, 1939, in McIntosh County, the daughter of Julius and Martha (Meidinger) Brandner. She was raised and educated in Wishek. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from University of Mary in Bismarck.
Arbie taught grade school in Linton, Hazelton, Zeeland, Rugby, Valley City and Mary Stark Elementary School in Mandan.
Arbie was a member of First Lutheran Church, Mandan. She enjoyed crocheting, ceramic projects and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling with friends.
Arbie dearly loved her family, and is survived by her mother, Martha Brandner of Mandan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daryl and Connie Brandner of Big Spring, Texas, and Kim and Wendi Brandner of Bismarck; two granddaughters, Mikaela Brandner of Bismarck and Jordann Brandner of Big Spring; one grandson, Jaden Brandner of Big Spring; one sister, Betty Reinpold of Mandan; one brother and sister-in-law, Jesse and Marilyn Brandner of Hillsboro; one niece, Julie Reinpold of Mandan; and very special friends, Helen and Bob Kuhle, Joyce Schwinkendorf and Vi Jeskie; and her special companion, Speedy.
Arbie was preceded in death by her father, Julius, in May 1965.
Chris Chase
Chris Chase, 21, Seattle, died Dec. 6, 1997, in Seattle. Arrangements are pending at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.
Theophil Heupel
ASHLEY -- Theophil Heupel, 74, Ashley, died Dec. 5, 1997, in the Ashley hospital. He had battled a great fight against cancer and heart disease for more than 13 years. This courageous effort was inspired by his love for life, family and faith.
Theo Heupel was born Sept. 11, 1923, in McPherson County, S.D., the son of Simon and Magdalena (Bertsch) Heupel. He grew up on the family farm and received his education at rural Petersburg Township School.
He was baptized and became a member of the Johannesthal Church in 1933. Theo was united in marriage to Bertha Aman, Nov. 20, 1949.
They farmed on the Heupel homestead until 1975, when they moved to Ashley, where they owned and operated the Dinner Bell Cafe until retiring in 1981.
After retirement he worked with the Olin Flax Company until 1984 and worked cattle until the present time.
Theo was a longtime member of the Ashley Baptist Church. He served in several school and church positions throughout his life. He was a Northern State University Athletic Booster.
Theo loved life and valued young people. His favorite pastimes were "coffee time" and telephone conversations with his friends, watching old-time television sitcoms and listening to religious music.
Theo cherished the family times during which he shared in his children and grandchildren's lives. He was in regular attendance at their athletic, musical and other events.
He leaves in this life his wife, Bertha; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ralph Solberg of Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Cindy of Aberdeen, S.D., and Wil and Julie of Eden Prairie, Minn.; his grandchildren, Lisa and Ryan Solberg, Joshua and Andrea Heupel and Rebecca and Alexa Heupel; three brothers, Adolph, Albert and Herbert; and one sister, Edna Helfenstein.
Theo was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ted and Edwin.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ashley Baptist Church, with the Rev. Darwin Stahl officiating.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley, and at the church one hour before services Thursday.
Pallbearers for the services are Harold Schlenker, Vern Heupel, Jerome Bertsch, Pat Parten, Randy Ulmer and Eric Heupel.
Honorary pallbearers are all family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Northern State University Football Scholarship Fund.
Henry G. Hoffman
MEDINA -- Henry G. Hoffmann, 83, Medina, died Dec. 5, 1997, in the Jamestown hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Zion United Church of Christ, Medina, with burial in Medina Cemetery.
