Sylvia Magstadt
Sylvia L. Magstadt, 72, Bismarck, died Nov. 28, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. George's Episcopal Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Michael Horn and W. Kendall Johnson officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.
Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Wednesday, and 9-10 a.m. Thursday, both at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.
Sylvia Salchert was born on Oct. 26, 1926, in Huron, S.D., the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Willinger) Salchert. She attended public schools in Huron through the 12th grade. She became a stenographer and worked for Schirmer Transportation Company in St. Paul, Minn., the Soil Conservation Service, Beadle County Electric Association and the Bureau of Reclamation in Huron, S.D.
Sylvia married Ray Magstadt in 1950 in Huron. They moved to Bismarck in 1956, when her husband was transferred from the Bureau of Reclamation in Huron to Bismarck. Sylvia then also worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for a while, and later for the Federal Aviation Agency.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Ray; one son, Kevin Magstadt, Bismarck; one daughter, Karen Buchholz; two granddaughters, Christina and Tiffany Buchholz, all of Virginia; and one niece and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Vera Plante and Evelyn O'Connor. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)
Violet Miller
ALMONT -- Violet Miller, 83, Almont, died Nov. 28, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MST Wednesday, at Almont Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Ron Groninger officiating. Burial will be in Almont Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue one hour before services at the church.
Violet Olin was born on Sept. 27, 1915, at Almont, the daughter of Alfred and Mathilda (Olson) Olin. She was raised and educated in the Almont area, she married Everett L. Miller in 1938 in Mandan.
She is survived by her husband, Everett; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert A. and Dorothy, Sturgis, S.D., Terry and Amelia, Washburn, and Joel, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Marlin Bachler, Seattle, Wash., and Marilyn and Gary Mertz, Bismarck; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; and a daughter and son who died in infancy. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Bismarck)
Nicholas Hardy
Nicholas J. Hardy, 79, Mandan, died Nov. 28, 1998, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, with the Rev. George Kunath officiating.
Hardy had bequeathed his body to the UND Medical School.
Nicholas was born on Feb. 2, 1919, in Richardton, the son of Leo and Margaret (Ellis) Hardy. He was raised and educated in Dickinson. Nick was an electrical lineman and worked on dam construction in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, North Dakota and Minnesota. He retired in 1983 and returned to North Dakota, residing in Mandan at the time of his death.
He is survived by three sisters, Jeanne Brown, Dickinson, Mary Stockie and Catherine Humphreys, both of Grass Valley, Calif.; one brother, Cal Hardy, Parker, Ariz., and many nieces and nephews. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)
