Leo Schatz
Leo M. Schatz, 65, Bismarck, lost his battle with cancer on March 19, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Paul Schauer and Dave Swonger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday, and 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, all at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to services at the church.
Leo was born Sept. 27, 1932, in McClusky, the son of Gottlieb and Anna (Reichert) Schatz. He attended country schools in the McClusky area. Leo married Elaine Helm on Sept. 29, 1952, in McClusky. He worked for Dakota Welding and Supply in Bismarck before moving to McClusky in 1955 to farm. In 1961, he moved to Bismarck and worked for Ace Hardware. On March 1, 1977, he started Leo's Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, which he owned and operated for approximately 10 years.
Leo is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Paula, Wilton, and Wayde and Alice, Fullerton, Calif.; one sister, Shirley Gutteriez, San Pablo, Calif.; three brothers, Clifford, Bismarck, Donald, Harvey, and Herbert, Sioux City, Iowa; five grandchildren, Melissa, Ryan, Brigette, Shawna and David; and a special friend, Carolyn Rich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ervin, Reuben, John and Arnold; three sisters, Esther, Lorraine, and Verna; and one precious granddaughter, Jaimie Kay. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)
James Ragan
James Eugene Ragan, 52, Bismarck, and formerly of Monroe City, Mo., died March 17, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services were held on March 21 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Monroe City, Mo. Burial was in St. Jude Cemetery, Monroe City.
James was born Sept. 1, 1945, in Hannibal, Mo., the son of Harley Eugene and Vivian Pauline (Sandifer) Ragan. He graduated from Holy Rosary High School and was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Monroe City. He attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo. and received his masters degree from the University of North Dakota. He married Marilyn Ann Morthland on Oct. 10, 1964, in Kirksville, Mo. For the past 29 years, he has made his home in Bismarck, where he worked for the state of North Dakota as chief of fisheries. For the past few years, he has owned and operated the Ragan Insurance Co., as an independent agent.
He was a member of the North Dakota Life Underwriters Association, Elks Club, American Fishery Society, North Dakota Sports Fishing Congress and North Dakota Fishing Hall of Fame. He was also a member of many other fishing, hunting, and sports clubs in the Bismarck area.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Derek Knutson, Bloomer, Wis.; two sons, Matthew James, Fargo, and Bradley Joseph, Bismarck; an aunt, Mrs. Lucille Pollard, Shelbina, Mo.; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Polly Morthland, Monroe City.

Everett Schiermeister
HAZELTON -- Everett R. Schiermeister, 75, Hazelton, died March 20, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hazelton, with the Rev. Eugene Roecker officiating. Burial will be in Hazelton Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-noon Monday, both at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church.
Everett Rienhold Schiermeister was born Aug. 11, 1922, at Hazelton, the son of Fredrich and Anna (Mulske) Schiermeister. He was raised and educated in the Hazelton area. He married Eva Scherr in Hazelton on June 14, 1945. They farmed west of Hazelton.
Everett was a member of the School Board for a number of years in Hazelton.
He is survived by his wife, Eva; two sons, Robert, Mandan, and Daniel, Rapid City, S.D.; two brothers, George and James Schiermeister; two sisters, Irene Opp and Nelda Beska; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Albert, LeRoy and Leopold. (Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Patty Yohner

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including John Brinster, Bismarck.
Joan Davis
CENTER -- Joan M. Davis, 57, Center, died March 20, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Center. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Joan enjoyed fishing on the pontoon, playing cards, crocheting, her Pomeranian dogs, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Joan is survived by three daughters, Caroline McKinley, Center, Tracy Volkmen, Minnesota, and Barbie Stone, Colorado; one son, Benny Smyth, Florida; her mother, Hazel Dines, Grand Junction, Colo.; one brother, Richard Stone, Antioch, Calif.; and a special friend, Bud Wettels and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Davis; and her father, Jim Stone. (Bismarck Funeral Home)
Lois Webber
Lois Webber, 58, 1208 N. 18th St., Bismarck, died peacefully at home on March 21, 1998, after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Century Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willis Potratz officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to services at the church.
Lois Newton was born on Oct. 7, 1939, in Springer, N.M., the daughter of A.L. and Nora Newton. In 1947, the family moved to Wyoming where her father was superintendent of schools in Deaver and Evanston. Lois graduated from Evanston High School in 1957.
After attending two years of college at the University of Wyoming, she married Kurt W. Webber and the two made their home at Minot, where Lois completed her education at Minot Teachers College.
Following graduation, Lois was employed by Augustana Lutheran Church as a kindergarten teacher at Minot.
In 1976, Lois and her family moved to Bismarck and between 1980 and 1989, she was employed as a teacher and director of the Bismarck Missouri Valley Montessori School. She also taught piano in her home for several years.
In 1990, Lois took a position as a secretary at Baptist Nursing Home at Bismarck, where she worked until September of 1997, when she retired because of ill health.
Lois was a member of the Kappa Gamma Teachers Society and from 1990 through 1992, she served as the society's president. Lois enjoyed various kinds of crafts and was active in Century Baptist Women's Church Fellowship.
She is survived by her husband, Kurt; one daughter and son-in-law, Wendy Sue and Kenneth Zamora, Las Vegas; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Douglas and Brenda Webber, Bismarck, and Steve and Angela Webber, Rochester, Minn.; two granddaughters, Krista and KaraLee; her mother, Nora Newton, Loveland, Colo.; one brother, Bill Newton, Worland, Wyo.; and her special friend, Fern Lindteigen, Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Ann; and her father, Aubie Lee Newton.
She was loved deeply by her family and friends and will be missed.
