Irene Miller, 70, 114 14th St. N.E., Mandan, died Dec. 24, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Pauline Thurn
WISHEK -- Pauline C. Thurn, 73, died Dec. 25, 1997, in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be held at 10-30 a.m. Monday, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Jacob; two daughters, Loraine Rohrich and Marion Kiefer, both of Bismarck; five sons, John, Lakeville, Minn., Gerold, Lincoln, Harvey, St. Louis, Mo., Steve, San Diego, Calif., and Darvin, Wishek; two sisters, Rose Thurn, Wishek, and Loraine Meidinger, Bismarck; and four brothers, Ben, Edgar and Ruben, all of Wishek, and John, Jamestown. GARRISON -- Arthur "Art" Mahowald, 80, Garrison, died Dec. 25, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, with the Rev. Hugo L. Blotsky officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, and will continue after 5 p.m. at the church, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service.

Further arrangements are pending with Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison.

Regina Reimann
GARRISON -- Regina Reimann, 83, Garrison, died Dec. 23, 1997, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, at First United Church of Christ, Garrison. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

She is survived by one son, Harvey, Burley, Idaho; one daughter, Shirley Hummel, Vancouver, Wash.; one brother, Wilbur Steinwand, Garrison; and three sisters, Agnes Hoyer and Betty Bussman, both of Washburn, and Ramona Reinisch, Garrison. (Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison)

SOUTH HEART -- Valentine Praus, 88, South Heart, died Dec. 25, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST today, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, South Heart. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; three daughters, Betty Kadrmas, Eugene, Ore., Joan Simon, Bismarck, and Sylvia Binstock, Dickinson; three sons, Edwin, Mandan, Don, Bismarck, and Edward, Hettinger; two brothers, Joe, Dickinson, and Frank, Devils Lake; and four sisters, Dorothy Zenter, Bismarck, Margaret Kudrna, South Heart, Tillie Zroston, Billings, Mont., and Josephine Wagner, Ellendale. Violet Larson
GACKLE -- Violet Larson, 67, Gackle, died Dec. 23, 1997, in a Fargo nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at Bethel Evangelical Church (American Legion Hall), Gackle. Burial will be in Assembly of God Cemetery, Kulm.

She is survived by four sons, Larry and Jerry, both of Gackle, Gary, Wishek, and Dale, Bismarck; one brother, Melvin Kalmbach, Paw Paw, Mich.; and three sisters, Irene Wallace, Cannon City, Colo., Leona Rempfer, Keensburg, Colo., and Linda Gackle, Kulm. (Haut Funeral Home, Gackle)

Irene Miller
Irene Miller, 70, 114 14th St. N.W., Mandan, died Dec. 24, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, where a Catholic Daughters Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Sunday, a K.C. Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, and a parish vigil will begin at 8 p.m. Sunday, all at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Irene was born on Jan. 9, 1927, in Glen Ullin, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Froehlich) Lanz. Irene was raised and educated in Glen Ullin and Mandan. She married Mathias P. Miller on July 8, 1947, in Mandan. Matt and Irene moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1968, where she worked at the American Greeting Corp., until they returned to Mandan in 1975. Mathias died Jan. 3, 1984.

Irene loved her family and the holidays, especially Christmas. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, needle crafts, sewing, crocheting and playing cards.

She loved sharing her hobbies with her many wonderful friends. She had a great love for her family and her many friends. She had a special closeness with several of her nieces and nephews. She will greatly be missed by all who dearly loved her.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Terry Robinson, Bismarck; one granddaughter and her husband, Kree ReNay and Troy Nelson, Fargo; one grandson, Cade Michel Robinson, Bismarck; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Faye Messmer, Bismarck, Elaine Speaks, Bismarck, and MaryAnn and J.B. Prince, Round Rock, Texas; and a special sister-in-law, Frenchy Lanz, Corvallis, Ore.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mathias; and four brothers, John, Edward, James and Ray. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Tony Millner
Tony F. Millner, 89, Gig Harbor, Wash., and formerly of Mandan, died Dec. 24, 1997. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Haven of Rest Chapel, Gig Harbor. Burial will be in Haven of Rest Memorial Park, Gig Harbor.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; one son, Ron, Gig Harbor; one daughter, Ann Shaw, North Dakota; and one brother, George, North Dakota. (Haven of Rest Chapel, Gig Harbor)

LeRoy Rieger, 68, Egan, Minn., formerly of Martin, died Dec. 26, 1997, in a St. Paul, Minn., hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey. Further arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

MANDAREE -- Doug McGrady, 86, Mandaree, died Dec. 24, 1997, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at New Town Civic Center. Further arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

Gladys Hodnefield
RAY -- Gladys Hodnefield, 77, Ray, died Dec. 26, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, at Ray Lutheran Church. Further arrangements are pending with Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston.

George Burgard
HARVEY -- George Burgard, 88, Harvey, died Dec. 23, 1997, at his home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey. Further arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Donald Homer
Donald W. Homer, 82, Bismarck, died Dec. 26, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Bismarck Funeral Home.

Jeannette Pellenwessel
MINOT -- Jeanette Pellenwessel, 52, Minot, died Dec. 25, 1997, of cancer in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today and Sunday, and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, where a prayer service will be said at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Jeanette was born Aug. 21, 1945, in St. Joseph's Hospital in Minot, the daughter of Selmer "Sam" and Grace (Newman) Larson. She was reared in Minot, and graduated from Minot High School in 1963, and she attended Minot Business College. On Nov. 28, 1964, she married Bernard "Bernie" Pellenwessel of Medaryville, Ind., who was then stationed with the Air Force at Minot Air Force Base. They were married at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot. They moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., in September of 1965, returning to Minot one year later where they since have made their home. Their son, Michael David Pellenwessel, was born in October of 1966.

She worked as a bookkeeper for the Nash Finch Co., at the East Piggly Wiggly Store (now Sunmart) in Minot from 1963 until 1982, except for the year when she was living in Indiana. In November of 1983, she became employed in the office of Herberger's at Dakota Square Mall, Minot. She was promoted to the position of office manager in April 1988, and continued in the employ of Herberger's while undergoing treatment for cancer. On several occasions, she was named recipient of Herberger's Customer Service Award.

She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Minot, and over the years taught classes in Confraternity of Christian Doctrine at St. John's. She also had participated in numerous campaigns for the heart fund and the March of Dimes.

She is survived by her husband; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lori, Minot; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Mardi Larson, Gehring, Neb., and Gary and Pat Larson, Mandan; and one sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Robert King, Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Bernece Holtan
BEACH -- Bernece E. Holtan, 83, died Dec. 26, 1997, in a Wibaux, Mont., nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Beach. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Bradley, Beach. (Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach)

Lydia Ketterling
Lydia Ketterling, 82, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died Dec. 25, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Lydia was born Feb. 17, 1915, at Gackle to John and Paulina (Remboldt) Rivinius. She was raised near Gackle and attended country schools. As a young woman, she moved to Elgin and worked in her uncle's grocery store. There she met Alvin "Slim" Ketterling and they were married July 12, 1942. They lived in Forsyth, Mont., Bismarck, Gackle, Mandan, and in 1950, they settled in Bismarck. She worked for Super Valu Stores for 15 years.

She loved children and baby sat children at her home with many calling her "Grandma." Slim died in 1987, and she moved to the care center in 1993. She loved to cook, camp, play cards and do crafts.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen K. Engel, Phoenix, and Jolene J. Ketterling, Bismarck; two sisters, Freida Rivinius, Gackle, and Ida Goodwin, Minneapolis; one grandson, Brent A. Engel, Los Angeles; two great-grandsons, Timothy and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son-in-law, Gene R. Engel; three brothers, Conrad, Rueben and Lenhardt; and four sisters, Rose, Katie, Tilli, and Bertha. (Perry Funeral Home, Mandan)

Hilda Kelstrom
FLASHER -- Hilda Kelstrom, 84, 114 N. Third St., Bismarck, formerly of Flasher, died Dec. 25, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. MST Tuesday at American Lutheran Church, Flasher, with the Rev. Dale Nabben officiating. Burial will be in Fairhill Cemetery, Flasher.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue for one hour before services at the church.

Hilda was born on Sept. 8, 1913, at Desden, the daughter of Julius and Emma (Drajeske) Lick. She was raised and educated in the Langdon area and married Floyd Kelstrom on July 22, 1933, in Flasher. They ranched near Flasher for many years. Floyd died Nov. 27, 1964. Hilda continued to live in the Flasher area until moving to Bismarck in 1993.

She particularly loved bowling and horseback riding.

She is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Arlene Bahm, Shields, Phyllis and Mark Hudiburgh, Great Falls, Mont., Judy and Gary McDowall, Mandan, and Jeanne and Alan Reinke, Corvallis, Ore.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Neil and Eileen, Bismarck, and Gary, Jamestown; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and one sister, Pauline Sell, West Bend, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Bertha Center; and five brothers, Aldolph, Rudolf, August, Frank and Reinhold.

Johnny Ruth Boehm
Johnny Ruth Boehm, 71, died Dec. 26, 1997, in a Mandan nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home Chapel, Mandan, with the Rev. Al Leary officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4:30-9 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home Chapel, Mandan.

Johnny Ruth was born on Nov. 30, 1926, in Lindsay, Okla., the daughter of Homer and Ivy (Klinglesmith) Hybarger. She was raised and educated in Rifle, Colo., where she graduated from Rifle High School. On Sept. 9, 1947, she married Leo Boehm.

She is survived by her spouse, Leo; one son and daughter-in-law, Monte and Mary, Mandan; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Rae and Eric Sletten, Helendale, Calif.; six grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Gayle Hybarger, Fallon, Nev., Jerry and Marlene Hybarger, and Homer T. and Rosei Hybarger, all of Reno, Nev.; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Barbara Ann Mosher, Salida, Colo., and Billy Mae and Elwyn Freemonth, Reno, Nev.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and one sister.

Claudia Kobilansky
GLEN ULLIN -- Claudia Kobilansky, 57, Glen Ullin, died Dec. 25, 1997, in Glen Ullin. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Claude Seeberger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today at the church, where a rosary will be said at 7 tonight, followed by a prayer service, all at the church.

Casketbearers will be Wesley Kroh, Eldon Kroh, Scott Schafer, Wayne Fitterer, Doug Fitterer, and Kerry Fitterer. The organist will be Vicki Horst and special music will be provided by Nancy Morman.

Claudia was born on July 31, 1940, in Glen Ullin to Matthew and Mary (Lang) Schafer. She was raised and educated in Glen Ullin. She worked at the cafe until she married Henry Kobilansky, on Oct. 21, 1958, at Glen Ullin. Following their marriage, she worked in the kitchen at the school. Her primary interest in her life was her children.

She was involved in the Glen Ullin Ambulance Service and Christian mothers. She was secretary and treasurer of the Glen Ullin Ambulance Service.

She is survived by her husband, Henry; one son and daughter-in-law, Kary and Paula, Glen Ullin; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Vicki and Jack Bursovsky, Table Rock, Neb., Joan and Bill Kelly, Helena, Mont., Lori Doll, Hooksett, N.H., and Tami and Paul Schaper, Taylor; 13 grandchildren; her mother, Mary Schafer, Glen Ullin; two brothers, Leo Schafer, Dickinson, and Larry Schafer, Mott; and six sisters, Irene Erhardt, Belgrade, Mont., Polly Fitterer, Glen Ullin, Lillian Dinius, Minneapolis, Joann Meier, Northfield, Minn., Violet Karch, Baldwin, and Patty Kroh, Richardton.

She was preceded in death by her father; one sister, Arlene; and two brothers, Duane and Johnny. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)
