Barbara Tkach
Barbara Tkach, 92, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, died Oct. 3, 1996, in the nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will begin at noon today at Boelter Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight.
Barbara was born March 24, 1904, in Richardton, the daughter of Philip and Katherine (Bleile) Loran. She was raised and educated in Richardton. She married John Tkach, Oct. 1, 1923, in Richardton. They moved to Tioga where they managed a barber shop. In 1924 they returned to Glen Ullin, where they owned a barber shop and movie theater. She was one of the first lady barbers in North Dakota and was well known in this area for her cooking. In 1946 she started cooking with Northern Improvement Construction Co., moving around the state. They moved to Bismarck and she became chef at Bismarck Elks for many years, and was manager of Bismarck Municipal Country Club from 1957-1963. She then became chef of the Holiday Inn for several years. Barbara also worked for Gold Seal Co. as a chef at the Roughrider Hotel in Medora. Upon her return to Bismarck she worked as a chef at Bismarck Eagles Club until her retirement. In her later years, she enjoyed cooking for the priests at the Cathedral and St. Mary's parishes.
She was a member of Eagles Auxiliary and St. Mary's Altar Society.
Barbara is survived by her daughter-in-law, Del Tkach, Bismarck; two granddaughters, Karen Frank and her husband, Joel, Bismarck, and Julie Tkach, Denver; one grandson, Tom, Denver; five great-grandchildren, Eric, Greta, Adam, Gregory and Tyler; three sisters-in-law, Catherine Erhardt, Glen Ullin, Polly Magstadt and Helen Loran, both of Missoula, Mont.; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, John Tkach Jr.; six brothers and six sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Mary's Grade School.
Math Kuntz
Math Kuntz, 86, Bismarck, died Oct. 2, 1996, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Hebron, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Math was born Nov. 6, 1909, near Glen Ullin, to Mike and Mary Ann (Judt) Kuntz. He was raised and educated near Glen Ullin. He worked on his parents' farm and neighboring farms until his marriage. On Oct. 9, 1934, he married Barbara Messer at St. Ann's Church in Hebron. They were lifetime farmers south of Hebron with the exception of one year spent out west where he worked in an aircraft factory and one year when they owned the Gambles Store in Richardton.
Math was a hard-working many and had a passion for taking care of his wife, Barbara, and his family. In 1968 they moved into Hebron where they resided until moving to the Bismarck Baptist Home in July 1996.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Brick City Seniors, Holy Name Society of Jesus, rural school board and was a past election board clerk.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; four sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Mary Beth, Elgin, Almore and Sally, Madelia, Minn., Patrick and Paulette, Bismarck, and Jerry and Bonnie, Hebron; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bruce Walth, Bismarck; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John, Mott, and Mike, Glen Ullin; and four sisters, Catherine Marthaller, Dickinson, Betty Barth, Spokane, Wash., Barbara Trauman, Dickinson, and Francis Roll, Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; four brothers; three grandchildren, Patrick Kuntz Jr., Paula Schaaf and Todd Kuntz; and one great-grandson, Michael Stoller.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald; one daughter, Lori Wissink, Beach; one son, Lonnie, Beach; her parents, Russell and Lorraine Shape, Sanborn; one sister, Susan Paske, Oronoco, Minn.; and four brothers, Arlen, Kevin and Keith Shape, all of Valley City, and Marvin Shape, Kansas. Evangeline Martin
FORT YATES -- Evangeline Lois Martin, 66, Fort Yates, died Oct. 5, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Fort Yates, with the Rev. John Floberg officiating. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday at Perry Funeral Home, Monday, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Evangeline was born Sept. 13, 1930, at White Earth, Minn., the daughter of Logan and Lydia (DeGroat) Chesley. She was raised at White Earth and attended Flandreau Indian School. She married William W. Martin in Pipestone, Minn., in 1947. They lived in New York, Aberdeen, S.D., and Fort Yates. He died in 1980. She worked for Indian Health Service, Standing Rock Tribal Court and BIA Realty Office before retiring in 1990.
She is survived by six daughters and three sons-in-law, Diane Martin, Garrison, Donnita and Keith Cutler, Pocatello, Idaho, Donna and Tennyson Boe, Billings, Mont., Denise Villanti, Grand Forks, Debra and Bryan Bald Eagle, Aberdeen, S.D., and Denise Martin, Fort Yates; three sons, William and Robert, both of Fort Yates, and Michael, Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Julia Otkin, Minnesota; 27 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Doris Soiseth.
Elizabeth Siems
Elizabeth H. Siems, 76, 622 N. 22nd St., died Oct. 4, 1996, at her home. Services will be held at noon Monday at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Bismarck, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. today and 8:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, where a vigil will begin at 7:30 tonight. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.
Elizabeth was born May 21, 1920, in Glen Ullin, the daughter of Fred and Ida (Friedt) Hellman. She was raised on the family farm south of Glen Ullin, and attended school at Glen Ullin. She married Robert W. Siems Jan. 2, 1946, in Bismarck. She worked as a volunteer at St. Alexius Medical Center, and various service organizations.
She is survived by seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Judith and Richard Joeb, Fargo, Kathy and Allen Shafer, Bismarck, Myrna and Tom Cosgrove, Pleasant Grove, Utah, Pauline and Gary Meissner, Bismarck, Christine and Kevin Soule, Bismarck, Marian and Glenn Kroh, Bismarck, and Virginia Siems, Mandan; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Tom and Marj, Bismarck, Harold and Debe, Casper, Wyo., John, Bismarck, and Walter and Tammy, Bismarck; five sisters, Tillie Bertsch, Milwaukee, Wis., Sister Austin Hellman, Watertown, S.D., Monica Kannedy, Yakima, Wash., Regina Leingang, Yakima, and Evelyn Braun, Bismarck; two brothers, John, Glen Ullin, and Larry, Bismarck; 24 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and one daughter, Mary Margaret; her parents; four brothers; three sisters; and two grandchildren, Terry and David Siems.
The family prefers memorials to Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Alvina Grosz
Alvina Grosz, 85, 1827 N. Fifth St., died Oct. 4, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Monday at Boelter Funeral Home.
Alvina was born Aug. 7, 1911, in Krem, the daughter of Bernard and Caroline (Weisenberger) Kilber. She was raised and educated in Krem. She married Erwin Grosz Oct. 27, 1933, in Hazen. They farmed in Mercer and Oliver counties until 1959 when they moved to Bismarck. Alvina loved baking, cooking, crocheting and quilting.
She is survived by her husband, Erwin; two daughters and one son-in-law, Arlene and Maurice Koffler, Fiddle Town, Calif., and Addie Ireland, Bismarck; one son, Vernon, Billings, Mont.; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Elsie Morast, Terry, Mont., Edna and Jake Unterseher, Beulah, and Ella Huber, Cheney, Wash.; one brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Bertha Kilber, Mott; 11 grandsons; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Hertha and Olga; and one great-grandchild.
Henry Hoffman
Henry J. Hoffman, 67, 228 14th St. N.E., Mandan, died Oct. 4, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at noon Tuesday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Monday, followed by a parish vigil.
Henry was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Solen, son of Joseph C. and Eva Hoffman. He was raised and educated in Solen. He entered the U.S. Army in 1948, and served in Korea until his discharge in 1953. He married Patricia Hulm May 7, 1952, in Bismarck. He worked for DynCorp for 30 years, based in Okinawa, but he traveled throughout the world. He returned to Mandan in 1991. He enjoyed boating, scuba diving and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Calvin Thelen, Grand Forks, and Rebecca and Michael Maynard, Franklin Lake, N.J.; his stepmother, Anna Hoffman, Bismarck; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Anton Wetsch, Mandan, and Kathleen and Dick Eckert, and Margie and Dale Schiff, all of Bismarck; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Gloria, Seattle, and Donnie and Mary, Bismarck; and three grandchildren, Christopher, Patricia and Rachel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John and George.
Robert Hague
POLLOCK, S.D. -- Robert L. Hague, 63, Pollock, died Oct. 1, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital of heart failure after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Pollock Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Bipes officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery, Pollock.
Visitation will be 5:30-9 p.m. today at the church, and will continue one hour before services.
Robert Lee Hague was born Aug. 16, 1933, to Loren L. and Iva (Turner) Hague near Walton, Kan. He attended grade school there and moved with his parents while he was in his teens to Peabody, Kan. He graduated from the Peabody High School in 1951. Robert married Gilberta Hughes at Peabody on June 3, 1956. He worked at Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita, Kan., during the winters and combined with his parents in the summers. They always liked the Pollock-Herreid area and in the fall of 1960 bought a farm four miles southwest of Herreid. They lived there until Jan. 1, 1984, when they moved to Pollock. The Hagues have owned and operated the Lakeside Bar there until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Gilberta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Paulette, Mandan, N.D.,and Danny and Brenda, Herreid; one daughter, Kelly Buechler, Pollock; and his true pride and joy -- his seven grandchildren, Brandee, Rose, Luke, Blake, Kabrina, David and Janie; three brothers, Willard, Marion, Kan., Eugene, Peabody, and Gelbert, Newton, Kan.; and three sisters, Evelyn, Cleona and Loretta, all of Peabody.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lyle; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jewel and Willis Mellott, and Isla Jane and Nelson, Prather, all of Peabody.
Memorials will be given to the American Heart Association.

Sheila Meidinger
ASHLEY -- Sheila Jean (Ulmer) Meidinger, 40, Ashley, died Oct. 3, 1996, in the Ashley hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, with the Rev. Martin Simmons officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Ashley.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A prayer services will begin at 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Sheila Jean Ulmer was born Aug. 21, 1956, to George and Arle Jean (Jenner) Ulmer in Ashley. She grew up on the family farm nine miles southeast of Wishek. She attended Wishek Public Schools graduating with the Class of 1974. She went on to attend the North Dakota State College of Science at Wahpeton for two years.
She moved to Bismarck where she worked at Border States Electric Supply Co. She was married to Larry Meidinger on July 2, 1977, at Wishek. They made their home in Bismarck until 1985 when their family moved to Ashley. Sheila had a day care in her home until 1988 when she began working for Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. as a district clerk. She worked there until 1995 when the Ashley office closed.
Sheila enjoyed crafts, bowling and especially being with her family and watching her children participate in school sports.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Ashley Sports Club.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; one son, Jason, Ashley; one daughter, Jamie Meidinger, Ashley; her parents, George and Arle Jean Ulmer, Wishek; one sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Vernon Geiszler, Ashley; and one brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Jackie Ulmer, Ashley.
She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents.
Honorary casket bearers will be all her friends and relatives.
Casketbearers will be Larry Thurn, Dean Ulmer and Lyle Bettenhausen, all of Wishek, Paul Gall, Ashley, and Danny Ruff and Jack Bettenhausen, both of Bismarck.
The organist will be Crystal Sayler. The soloist is Dr. Joel Kangas, accompanied by Elsie Sackmann.
