Lydia Roth
WISHEK -- Lydia Roth, 85, Wishek, died March 8, 1998, in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at United Church of Christ, Wishek, with the Revs. Tammy Toepke-Floyd and Marty Toepke Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Wishek City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. today, and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, both at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Dave Badgley, Terry Olstad, Wayne Kemmet, Michael Kemmet, Kordell Bauer, Ken Huber, David Badgley and Jason Badgley. Mrs. Peggy Martell will serve as organist with the Men's Quartet providing special music.
Lydia was born Dec. 14, 1912, in Campbell County, S.D., on the family farm between Pollock and Herreid, S.D., the daughter of John and Magdelina (Becker) Salzer. She grew up on the farm near Herreid, until the age of 12, when she moved with her family to a farmhouse northwest of Danzig. She received her elementary education in rural McIntosh County Schools. Lydia continued to live at her home until her marriage to Edward Roth on Oct. 17, 1935 at Ashley. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm home on the northwest edge of Danzig, where they lived and farmed. Her husband, Edward, preceded her in death in 1976. In 1995, Lydia moved to Wishek, where she has lived since that time in the Wishek Nursing Home apartments.
Lydia was a member of United Church of Christ in Wishek, and since the early 1960s was a member of the church's Lydia's Society. Lydia's hobbies included a love for quilting, crocheting and sewing. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, June and Oscar Kemmet, Wishek, and Geneva and Dennis Olstad, Fargo; five grandchildren, Pat Badgley, Polly Huber, Wayne Kemmet, Jackie Bauer, and Terry Olstad; eight great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Roland Walth, Royal City, Wash.; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Elsa Salzer, Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; one grandson; her parents; one brother and one sister. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)
Kermit Ellisen
Kermit Ellisen, 80, Mandan, died March 8, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan, with full military rites provided by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.
Kermit was born on July 20, 1917, on the family farm southwest of Mandan, the son of Ernest M. and Mathilda (Olsen) Ellisen. He was educated in rural Morton County schools. He was in the Army National Guard from Nov. 21, 1931, until he was activated into U.S. Army on April 1, 1941, and served until Nov. 14, 1945. On Nov. 7, 1946, he married Lily Vendt Geiss in Glendive, Mont. She died on July 10, 1957. In 1959 he married Rose Fix Hawley in Mandan, she died on May 12, 1984. For most of his life, Kermit farmed southwest of Mandan. He also served as the Morton County deputy sheriff and sheriff from 1948 until 1962.
Kermit will be dearly missed by all of his family and his many friends, including his sister, Gladys McCollam, Bismarck; two stepsons, Robert Geiss, Mandan, and James Hawley, Sun City, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Marilyn Christiansen, Mesa, Ariz.; nine step-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; and nine nieces, Louane Hart, Annette Gohl, Cathy Risch, Siri Eisenmann, Crystal Zander, Annabelle Lang, Shelia Kirschke, Joy Dowell and Judy Field; and three nephews, Howard Christiansen, Dennis Hoherz and Jerry Ellisen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd and Ernest; three sisters, Alvilda Cotter, Erna Hendrickson and Margaret Hoherz; one half-brother, Elias Ellisen; one half-sister, Orla Christiansen Peterson; and one half brother and sister who died in infancy. Emil Finck
CARSON -- Emil Finck, 85, Carson, died March 5, 1998, in the Elgin hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MST Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Wayne Rouse officiating. Burial will be in Carson Community Cemetery, with full military rites provided by Walter J. Thome American Legion Post No. 45.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sandra Bohn, Nancy Guzik, Harold Krause, Herbert Huber, Mike Nagel, Eddie Johnson, Joe Hartman, and Duane Striegel.
Emil was born Jan. 22, 1913 at Heil, the son of Wilhelm and Karoline (Stevahn) Finck. He grew up and attended school in the Heil and Carson area. He married Magdalena Ritter. They lived on farms in the area until they moved to Carson. Emil held various jobs in Carson, the last being a school bus operator for Roosevelt School.
Emil dedicated many years serving Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in many ways. His wife, Maggie, his family, his church and his many friends were most important in Emil's life. His favorite hobbies consisted of playing cards, fishing and watching baseball on TV. Emil was a veteran of World War II and a 50-year member of the Walter J. Thome American Legion Post No. 45 in Carson.
Emil is survived by his wife, Magdalena; one daughter and son-in-law, Alma and Walter Bohn, Tarpon Springs, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Janet, Sun City, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lorraine Laudt and Martha Fox; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clarence and Jacob; one sister, Pauline; and one nephew, Gilbert Laudt.

Edward Austad
Edward Austad, 75, Bismarck, died March 7, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. James Sorenson officiating. Spring burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, and will resume for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Edward was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Roseglen, the son of Lloyd and Anne (Tessand) Austad. He graduated from Ryder High School and attended Fargo Business College, where he met his wife, Betty Monson. They were married on Dec. 17, 1943. Following their marriage, they farmed near Roseglen. They moved to Bismarck in 1961.
Edward enjoyed woodworking and flower gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Robb Austad, Fargo, and Bruce and Martha Austad, Fergus Falls, Minn.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Bonnie and Chuck Sellars, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Pamela Wieder, Minneapolis; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
