Juliana Elwess
Juliana C. Elwess, 83, 1111 N. First St., died June 5, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hazelton, with the Rev. Jeff Zwack officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Juliana was born April 23, 1914, in Linton, the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Baumgartner) Scherr. She was raised and educated in Emmons County. She married Peter Elwess, Sept. 1, 1931 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hazelton. They farmed north of Hazelton until 1963 when they moved to Bismarck. Juliana worked as a cook for Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center and University of Mary. Peter died in 1973.
She was a member of Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Bismarck Senior Center.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Baker, Hazelton; two sisters, Barbara Landsberger and Helen Magnuson, both of Bismarck; two brothers, Frank, Mobridge, S.D., and Ben, Miller, S.D.; one son-in-law, Bernard Buck, Linton; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Shirley; two grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters.

Paul Hartze
NAPOLEON -- Paul Hartze, 66, Napoleon, died June 5, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, with the Revs. James Lauerman and John Bacevicius officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Jim Olig will serve as organist. Pallbearers are Donald, David, Ken, John, Raphael and Albert Brendel.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
Paul was born May 9, 1931, on the family farm in Campbell County, near Greenway, S.D. He grew up on the farm and received his elementary education in a rural Campbell County School. Following his education he continued to live and work on the farm for a short time. Paul moved to Aberdeen, S.D., where he worked for a number of years. On Feb. 27, 1952, Paul joined the United States Army at Sioux Falls, S.D., and served overseas in Germany for 17 months. He was discharged Feb. 16, 1954, and returned to work in Pierre, S.D., on the Oahe Dam Project. He worked for Pasco Construction of Sioux Falls doing road construction throughout South Dakota and North Dakota.
On Oct. 28, 1957, he married Christine Brendel at St. Anthony Catholic Church, southwest of Napoleon. Following their marriage they moved to the Adam Brendel farm, which they purchased. They lived and farmed there for a number of years. Paul also owned and operated Hartze Construction, a heavy equipment contractor doing work in the tri-county area.
Paul was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and Napoleon American Legion. He loved his family and paid special attention and affection to his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Christine, Napoleon; four sons, Duane and fiancee (Donna), and Gregory and friend (Jen), all of Bismarck, Richard (Patty), Mandan, and Gerard (Paula), Devils Lake; two daughters, Laure (Ron) Hartze-Turner, and Paulette Hartze-Brass, all of Bismarck; four grandchildren, Brittaney and Caitlin Hartze, Christie Turner and Shannon Brass; three brothers, Frank, Aberdeen, S.D., Peter (Doris), Eagan, Minn., and Anton (Madonna), Zeeland; and nine sisters, Regina (Martin) Schmidt, Bismarck, Catherina (Francis) Schmidt, and Evelyn Hartze, all of Minneapolis, Mary (Nick) Renner, Mandan, Caroline (Harry) Gross, and Theresa Cunningham, all of Aberdeen, Betty Liles, Harrison, Tenn., Helen (Tom) Volk, Hauge, and Magdalene (Orvin) Kramer, Strasburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and one sister.
Herbert Reinke
ELLENDALE -- Herbert Reinke, 79, Ellendale, died June 6, 1997, in an Aberdeen, S.D. hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Ellendale. Burial will be in Seventh-day Adventist Country Church Cemetery, Kulm.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, Ellendale; three sons, Glenn, Kulm, Daryl, Alexandria, Va., and Dennis, Bismarck; three brothers, Ed, Keene, Texas, Oscar, Ellendale, and Marvin, Forbes; and three sisters, Edna Patzer and Elsie Reinke, both of Ellendale, and Delia Kungel, Kulm. Edmund Roemmich
Edmund Roemmich, 77, Bismarck, formerly of New Salem, died June 6, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Church of the Nazarene, Mandan, with the Rev. Dave Baker officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, New Salem.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. MDT today, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and from noon to 9 p.m. CDT Tuesday, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, where a prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services, at the church.
Edmund was born April 1, 1920 on the family farm near Bluegrass, the son of Ludwig and Christina (Wetzel) Roemmich. He was educated in rural schools and married Verna Zietlow, Feb. 10, 1946 in New Salem. They farmed 10 miles northwest of New Salem until 1970 when they moved to New Salem. Edmund was a school bus driver for 22 years. They had been residents of Bismarck since 1993.
Edmund enjoyed music and played many instruments, mainly the accordion, piano and guitar. In the late 1930's he played gospel tunes with his family on a Mandan radio station, KBCU. His family, particularly his grandchildren, was his pride and joy. He found great pleasure in a new vehicle yearly.
He is survived by his wife, Verna; one daughter, Dalonnes Roemmich, Carrington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Loni and Shirley, Washburn, and Ross and Monica, Bottineau; eight grandchildren, Twila, Monte and Londa Roemmich, Washburn, and Kelly, Kayla, Scott, Trent and Derek Roemmich, Bottineau; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Elizabeth Nagel and Wilhelmina Redmann, both of Glen Ullin, and Sophia and Alvin Weishaar, Mandan; one sister-in-law, Irene Roemmich, Bismarck; and two nieces and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Henry, Carl and Ludwing, who died in infancy, and Albert; and one infant son, Reggie.
Rose Grenz
HAZELTON -- Rose Grenz, 87, Hazelton, died June 7, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hazelton. Burial will be in Hazelton Cemetery.
She is survived by two sons, George, Littleton, Colo., and Rodney, Hazelton; one daughter, Delores McPherson, Otsego, Mich.; three brothers, Henry and Emil Humann, both of Hazelton, and Willis Humann, Lancaster, Calif.; and two sisters, Bertha Jahner, Bismarck, and Amilia Wacker, The Dalles, Ore. Helen Hartinger
GLEN ULLIN -- Helen Hartinger, 77, Glen Ullin, died June 7, 1997, in the Glen Ullin nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Glen Ullin.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today, at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, and will continue one hour prior to services, at the church.
Helen was born Jan. 13, 1920 in rural Glen Ullin, to John and Christina (Opp) Wallery. She attended 10 years of school in Glen Ullin. On April 16, 1942 she married Joe Hartinger in Baker, Mont. In March of 1992 she entered the Marian Manor Nursing Home. Helen greatly enjoyed crafts, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, gardening and fishing.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years; four daughters, Carol Maulky, Medford, Ore., Joyce Koski, Bismarck, Kathy Gerving, Wibaux, Mont., and Julie Donnelly, Columbus, Ind.; one son, Jim, Huntley, Ill.; two sisters, Katie Boschee and Christina Kuntz, both of Glen Ullin; one brother, August Wallery, Billings, Mont.; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one great-grandson; and three brothers.

Juliana Huebschwerlen
Juliana Huebschwerlen, 78, 420 E. Main Ave., Bismarck, died Nov. 9, 1998, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Parish Center Chapel, Devils Lake, with the Father Paul Cervinski officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Brinsmade.
Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and one hour prior to the service at the church. A rosary, followed by a vigil service, will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, with Father Charlie Heidt presiding.
Juliana Patricia Kuntz was born Nov. 28, 1919, at Towner, the daughter of Julius and Cecilia (Senger) Kuntz. She grew up and attended school in Devils Lake. On Nov. 7, 1942, she married Herbert Huebschwerlen at Minnewaukan. They farmed in the Brinsmade area. They moved to Minot in 1959. In 1986, she moved to Bismarck.
She was a member of the National Federation of Republican Women and Little Flower Confraternity. She was an active member of church and community.
She is survived by one son, Stephen, and his wife, Martha, Bismarck; four grandchildren, Samuel, Sarah, Kristina and Julie, and her husband, Mark; two great-grandchildren, Trevor and Cody; one sister, Barbara Butler, Grand Forks; one brother, Alex Kuntz, Los Angeles; and many friends of all ages.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herb; one son, Hugh; an infant daughter, Mary; six brothers; two sisters and three infant sisters.
