Barbara Anas
Barbara N. Anas, 54, 8811 Sibley Drive, Bismarck, died Aug. 15, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bismarck Funeral Home, followed by a private burial.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, and will continue one hour prior to services.
She is survived by a special friend, Eugene Clooten, Bismarck; one daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Rodney Scheett, Mandan; one son, Jonathan, Fargo; two grandsons, Rodney Jr. and Russell Scheett, both of Mandan; her mother, Wilma Gilliland, Marion, Ind.; her father, Paul Gilliland, Fort Wayne, Ind.; one sister, Pat Whittaker, Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, Paul Gilliland Jr., Angola, Ind.; and one grandmother, Helen Sexton, Marion, Ind.
Margaret Harris
Margaret L. "Peggy" Harris, 67, 447 E. Brandon Drive, Bismarck, died Aug. 15, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital from pancreatic cancer. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Century Baptist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. John Binder officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Margaret was born Jan. 26, 1930 in El Reno, Okla., to Daisy Brown and Pierce P. Bartlett. Peggy, as she was known to most people, was the youngest of seven children and the last survivor.
She attended school in El Reno and graduated from El Reno High School in 1948. She attended El Reno Junior College for two years, graduating with an associate of arts degree. Peggy then attended Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, Okla., later transferring to Southwestern Teachers College at Weatherford, Okla., where she graduated with a BS in education. Following graduation, she began teaching in the Oklahoma City school system, and then taught at Central Grade School in El Reno where she had attended.
Peggy married Glenn Edward Harris May 30, 1953, at El Reno. Following their marriage, they moved to Bartlesville, Okla., where she taught first grade at Highland School. In August of 1960 they moved to Bismarck, where she taught at Northridge School from 1962 to 1979. In 1976 she was granted a MS in Elementary Education from Northern State College, Aberdeen, S.D. From 1979 to 1986 she was the principal at Richholt Elementary, and from 1982 to 1986 she was also the principal at Saxvik Elementary. From 1986 to 1993 she was the principal at Rita Murphy Elementary, and in 1991 and 1992 she was also the principal at Jeanette Myhre Elementary.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma from 1964 and served as president from 1980-1982; Bismarck Education Association from 1962 and served as president from 1978-1980; Phi Delta Kappa from 1982 and served as secretary in 1985; Zonta Service Club from 1982 and served as chaplain from 1987-1988; IRA Reading Association from 1962; the board of directors for the North Dakota Association of Elementary School Principals from 1979; the board of directors of the North Dakota Education Association; Retired Teachers Association; and a life member of NEA-NDEA.
Peggy and Glenn have been active at Century Baptist Church for many years and recently became members.
Peggy's many awards and honors included: the Sears Fellowship in Economic Elementary Education; Hazel B. Nielson Scholarship; Boss of the Week Award; Bell Ringer Award; and the Golden Apple Award.
She served as a judge for Odyssey of the Mind Tournaments.
Her hobbies included traveling, watching sports, sewing, crocheting, playing bridge and pinochle, and she loved Westerns. Peggy also had a beautiful voice and was chosen to sing with a musical group in Europe in 1965. She sang for many weddings and funerals and other occasions over the years. She also taught Sunday School and led the church choir for many years. Peggy was a Rainbow Girl and was active in Grand Cross of Colors.
Peggy was a recipient of a liver transplant, and gave what she could give, which were her corneas.
She is survived by her husband, Glenn; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Glenn Jr., New Rockford, and Gregory and Ann, Merritt Island, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Sarah Michelle, Katrina Ann, Melissa Marie and Gregory David Jr.
Memorials are preferred to Gift of Life Transplant House, 705 Second St. S.W., Rochester, MN 55902, or the Medcenter One Hospice, Bismarck.
George Weigel Sr.
NAPOLEON -- George Weigel Sr., 84, Napoleon, died Aug. 15, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.
George was born Feb. 20, 1913, in rural Logan County, near Napoleon, the son of Alois and Barbara (Welder) Weigel. He was born and raised on the family farm in the St. Boniface area, south of Napoleon, where he received his elementary education in rural Logan County schools. He continued to live and farm with his family until his marriage to Mary Johs on Feb. 24, 1936, at St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Following their marriage they established their home on a farm south of Napoleon. They farmed for 36 years until they retired in 1972. That same year they moved to Napoleon where they have lived since that time. George then worked part-time for 10 years during the summer months for Wentz Equipment at Napoleon.
He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters and one son-in-law, Alvina and Albert Ternes and Lillian Wangler, all of Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, George Jr. and Bonnie, Kintyre; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Baltzer A. and Mary, Kintyre, Joe and Maggie, Napoleon, and Mike and Velva, Minneapolis; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Frank Schumacher, and Veronica and Melvin Studrut, all of Rugby, and Helen and Eddie Mueller, Milwaukee, Wis.; his stepmother, Mary Weigel, Napoleon; two half-brothers and spouses, Willie and Georgia Weigel, Minneapolis, and Tom and Kathy Weigel, Mandan; three half-sisters, Viola Steiner, Reno, Nev., Betty Hall, Arizona, and Phyllis Weinberger, Turtle Lake; and one stepbrother and spouse, Mike and Vonnie Kuntz, Driscoll.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Andy; one sister, Barbara Weigel; and one son-in-law, Anton J. Wangler.
John Stoll
KILLDEER -- John Stoll, 84, Killdeer, died Aug. 15, 1997, in the Killdeer nursing home. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Killdeer. Further arrangements are pending with Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.
Frances Bleth
Frances Bleth, 93, St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck, died Aug. 15, 1997, in the care center. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent's Care Center Chapel, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer, Frances' nephew, officiating. Inurnment will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the care center chapel, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
Frances Schneider was born Sept. 10, 1903 in Glen Ullin, the daughter of Frank and Margaret (Wise) Schneider. Shortly after her birth, Frank Schneider died and her mother married Sam Weiand. Frances was raised and educated in Glen Ullin, graduating from Glen Ullin High School, where she played on the girls basketball team. She received her teaching certificate from Valley City Teachers College, and taught in the Fort Rice and Huff areas. She married Valentine Bleth and they lived in Glen Ullin.
Frances later moved to Bismarck, where her employment included: Dakota National Bank, Q&R Clinic, Gulf Oil Co. and the North Dakota Employment Security Bureau, from which she retired in 1971. After her retirement she was honored by the North Dakota Geological Society, did volunteer work for the handicapped, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was active in the St. Alexius and St. Vincent's auxiliaries, having served as treasurer of both groups.
Frances is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Donna Hover, San Jose, Calif., and Pat and John Stewart, Rapid City, S.D.; 10 grandchildren, Robert Hover, Alaska, John Hover, Andrew Hover, Pam Hover Frye and Patti Hover Sims, all of California, Kathy Kasper Stewart, Burke, Va., Ronda Kasper Kincheloe, Green Bay, Wis., Lora Kasper Weimer, Woodbury, Minn., and Tom and Terry Kasper, both of Duluth, Minn.; and 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three step-grandchildren, David and Doug Stewart, and Suzanne Ley; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Deibert and Germaine Cusciotto; and one brother, Adolph Weiand. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)
Magdalene Delebo
Magdalene Delebo, 82, Medcenter One Care Center, Mandan, died Aug. 15, 1997, at the care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas E. Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Dakota Memorial Chapel, Bismarck, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Magdalene Schlosser was born Feb. 22, 1915 in Mandan, the daughter of John and Theresa (Ferderer) Schlosser. She was raised and educated in Mandan. Magdalene married Henry W. Delebo Jan. 6, 1936, in Mandan. They moved to Bismarck, where she lived the remainder of her life.
She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Frank Schantz, Mandan; one grandniece, Susan Martin, and her husband, Bob, Bismarck; and one great-grandnephew and great-grandniece.
David Bailey
David C. "Chuck" Bailey, 65, formerly of Bismarck, died Aug. 15, 1997, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. James Cissel officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
David was born March 8, 1932, at Wing, to Orva and Agnes (Lind) Bailey. He grew up in Wing and graduated from Wilton High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. He married Pauline Swallow in October 1955 in Washburn. They moved to Bismarck and he worked for H.A. Thompson Plumbing. He later worked for Wetch Plumbing as a bookkeeper, and his latest employment was with John Iverson Co. as a dockworker. He retired in 1982 due to his failing health.
He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Lucinda and Kim Knudson, and Mary Grace Bailey, all of Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Manda, Bismarck; three brothers, John and Ralph, both of Bismarck, and Robert, Carrington; 12 grandchildren, David and Angela Knudson, Daniel, Tori, Kcory, Jillian and Jermiah Bailey, Robert Patterson, Rory Bailey, and Jessica, Justeen and James Koch.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, in June 1996; his parents; one brother; and one daughter, Shirley Kay.
Agnes Tuhy
DICKINSON -- Agnes Tuhy, 97, Dickinson, died Aug. 15, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Monday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, New Hradec.
She is survived by four daughters, Lillian Dvorak, Payson, Ariz., Mary Mann, Fargo, Betty Kordonowy, Wheatridge, Colo., and Bernice Hoffman, Cottage Grove, Minn. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)
Adelia Vetter
GARRISON -- Adelia Vetter, 77, Garrison, died Aug. 14, 1997, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, with the Rev. Dick Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in Garrison Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be her three grandsons, Blake Vetter, and Mark and Scott Wilson, and also Wayne Thompson, Doug Krebsbach and Don Vetter.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, and will continue one hour prior to services, at the church.
Adelia was born Nov. 30, 1919 in Leader, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Charles and Anna Elser. She grew up and attended school in Garrison. On Nov. 30, 1940, she married Wilbert Vetter. He died on May 22, 1967. Adelia worked at the Manor in Garrison for 13 years. She was an avid bowler and liked to attend National Bowling Conventions when she could. She loved to play bingo and was a member of Ladies Aide and the Senior Citizens.
She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, Ronald and Donna, Sioux Falls, S.D., Gerald and Diane, Sumner, Wash., Lynn and Gwen, Bismarck, Rickey, Garrison, and Jeffrey and Cindy, Minot; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Paul Wilson, Vista, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Alvina Krebsbach, and Mildred and Allen Thompson, all of Garrison, and Joyce and John Grey, Wilton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Charles Elser.
James Collins Jr.
James P. Collins Jr., 61, 8902 Sibley Drive, Bismarck, died Aug. 15, 1997, in the Mandan nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.
