ASHLEY -- Raymond Giedt, 77, Ashley, died Sept. 6, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending with Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

Margaret Edmundson
Margaret Edmundson, 87, Mandan, died Sept. 7, 1998, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Paul Fiske officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation begins after 9 a.m. Wednesday, and continues until the time of services at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Margaret was born on July 5, 1911, near Turtle Lake, the daughter of Emmitt and Ruby (Spaulding) Kraft. She graduated from Coleharbor High School and attended Capitol Commercial College in Bismarck. She was employed by the State Motor Vehicle Department. On Feb. 2, 1936, she married Bryan Edmundson in Coleharbor. They made their home in Mandan where Bryan was employed by the Mandan Creamery.

She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, the Miriam Circle and the First Lutheran Church Women, often volunteering to help with church sponsored events. A devoted homemaker and mother, Margaret always had freshly baked cookies on hand for children of the family and was a den mother for the Boy Scouts. She enjoyed the challenge of a crossword puzzle, playing cards, particularly bridge and bowling. Always interested in the political process, Margaret served as a precinct election clerk for many years.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Judy, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Paul Schleicher, Mandan; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Viola Merbach and Emma Peightal, both of Bismarck, and Maxine Buehler, Browerville, Minn.; and four brothers and sisters-in-law, Emmitt and Ruth Kraft, Bremerton, Wash., Clinton and Bernice Kraft, Lenexa, Kan., Robert and Lori Kraft, Bismarck, and Loren and Ruth Kraft, Mesa, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bryan who died on Dec. 16, 1993; and one daughter, Arlene Zachmeier.

Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church in Mandan or MedCenter One Hospice. The family also wishes to extend a special thank you to all of the care givers who so graciously assisted Margaret and her family. (Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan)

Katherine Heck
Katherine Heck, 94, Medcenter One Care Center, Mandan, died Sept. 7, 1998, in the center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. A Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m., both at the funeral home on Wednesday evening.

Katherine Doll was born Feb. 26, 1904, in Morton County. She was the daughter of Frederick and Marian (Steiner) Doll. She married Phillip G. Schaff on Nov. 24, 1924 in Fallon. Phillip died on March 10, 1933, and Katherine remarried on Oct. 18, 1933, to Anton Heck Sr. in Bismarck. Anton and Katherine moved to Mandan in 1951 and on Dec. 5, 1969, Anton died.

Katherine is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Pete and Marie, Mandan, Ludwig and Dody, Garden Groce, Calif., Valentine and Bertha, Mandan, and Ralph and Dorothy, Richland, Wash.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Sister Marguerite Heck, OSB, Yankton, S.D., and Isabelle and Joe Davis, Richland, Wash.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Heck, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Valentine and Frances Doll, Billings, Mont.; one sister-in-law, Ida Doll, Billings; and three sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary and Emil Fisher, Flasher, Rose Frieze, Billings, and Josephine Magilke, Columbus, Mont.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one son, Anton Jr.; one grandson, Bob Heck; two sisters, Perpetua Dworshak and LaCardia Feist; and one brother-in-law, Dan Frieze. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Melvin Kitzan
RICHARDTON -- Melvin Kitzan, 73, Richardton, died Sept. 6, 1998, in Dickinson. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Friday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Richardton, with the Rev. Sandralea Watson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation begins after 4 p.m. MDT Thursday, at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, and for one hour prior to the service at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. MDT Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Melvin Kitzan was born on May 8, 1925, in rural Antelope, the son of Rudolph and Rose (Aman) Kitzan. Melvin was raised and educated in rural Antelope. He worked on the family farm and for various neighbors. On Oct. 25, 1944, he entered the U.S. Army and served with the C Troop 12th Calvary in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. Following his discharge on Nov. 14, 1946, he returned to the area and married Shirley Homelvig, on Sept. 5, 1954, in Amidon. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Antelope area on the John Krein place. In the fall of 1966, they sold that farm and purchased a farm north of Richardton. For most if his life, he was an avid collector of arrowheads and other Indian artifacts. Melvin semi-retired in 1990, but continued to help out on the farm.

He was a member of the U.S. Army PFC from Oct. 25, 1944, until Nov. 14, 1946. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 180, St. John Lutheran Church, and director of the Richardton fire district.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Thomas, Richardton, Kenny and Ann-Margaret, Hebron, and Timothy, Dickinson; two daughters and one son-in-law, Rose Kitzan and her husband, Garry Pearson, Grand Forks, and Susan Kitzan, Nantucket, Mass.; one granddaughter, Angela Kitzan, Hebron; three brothers, Ralph, Glen Ullin, and Randolph and Clarence, both of Richardton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice Brown
Alice Berniece Brown, 89, Boise, Idaho, and formerly of Mott and Goodrich, died Sept. 6, 1998, of natural causes in Boise. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Cloverdale Funeral Home, Boise. Burial will be in Cloverdale Memorial Park, Boise.

Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. today, at Cloverdale Funeral Home, Boise.

Alice was born Aug. 25, 1909, to Albert and Myrtle Mary Wallace, and grew up on a farm nine miles west of Mott and five miles southeast of Regent. She had one brother, Charles E. Wallace Sr. She attended high school at Jamestown Holiness Academy, Northwest Nazarene College and Dickinson State University. She taught country schools for six and one half years, then married Daniel Fielder on May 27, 1937. A son, Cordell Elbert was born Sept. 15, 1938, and a daughter, Sarah Lee was born on Dec. 28, 1942.

She began teaching country schools again in 1953 and retired from teaching after 26 years in December of 1972. She married the Rev. William S. Brown in Goodrich on Feb. 14, 1973, and the pastored the Denhoff Nazarene Church until May of 1983, when Rev. Brown passed away.

Alice was Treasurer of the Denhoff Nazarene and also Treasurer of the Regent Nazarene Missionary Society when a member at Regent Nazarene Church. In October 1983, her son moved to Meridian, Idaho, where she has lived since and been a member of the Valley Shepard Nazarene Church at Meridian.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother and husbands, and one stepchild.

Along with her children, she is survived by three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two stepchildren, 11 step-grandchildren; and many step-great-grandchildren. (Cloverdale Funeral Home, Boise)

Michael Tschida
Michael A. Tschida, 52, 5725 Highway 1806, Mandan, died Sept. 5, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Leonard Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with full military rites provided by Mandan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 707 and the American Legion Post No. 40.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today, at Weigel Funeral Home, where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. tonight, a parish vigil at 7 p.m. tonight, followed by the Huff parish rosary at 7:30 p.m. all tonight at the funeral home.

Michael was born March 7, 1946, in Mandan. He was the son of Lawrence and Rose (Schaff) Tschida. Mike was raised and educated in the Fort Rice area. He married Marleen Leingang on July 21, 1969, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. Mike was a self-employed bee keeper and rancher.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Marleen; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Larry and Sherry, Bismarck, and Scott, Manda; five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Gabe and Carlene, Lake Wales, Fla., Dan and Karen, Solen, Frank, Fargo, Joe, Bismarck, and Leo and Betty, Fort Rice; five sisters and one brother-in-law, Agnes Schumacher, Bismarck, Rose Tschida, Mandan, Mary Tschida, Wisc., Betty Peterson, Rockledge, Fla., and Helen and Frank Miller, Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother, Raphael. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Clara Cook
Clara Cook, 75, McIntosh, S.D., died Sept. 5, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Friday, at First Presbyterian Church, McIntosh. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D.

She is survived by her son, Ken Cook, Aloha, Ore.; two daughters, Kathy Noon, Bismarck, and Karin Chipman, Deadwood, S.D.; one brother, Everett Busk, Eureka, S.D.; and two sisters, Teal Randen, Pierre, S.D., and Lucille Henry, Georgia. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon, S.D.)

Mary Sitter
RICHARDTON -- Mary F. Sitter, 75, Richardton, died Sept. 5, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Fred; one son, Raymond, Richardton; three brothers, Frank Stulc, Wyoming, and Anton Stulc and Martin Stulc, both of Montana; and one sister, Helen Miller, Washington. (Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson)

Ruth Reddig
CARRINGTON -- Ruth E. Reddig, 89, Carrington, died Sept. 6, 1998, in the New Rockford nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Calvary Baptist Church, Carrington. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Cathay.

She is survived by one daughter, Joan Brown, West Fargo; two sons, James, Minot, and Lee, Grand Forks; and two sisters, Elsie Meth, Bismarck, and Hilda Seibold, New Rockford. (Evans Funeral Home, Carrington)

Lydia Becker
BEULAH -- Lydia Becker, 85, Beulah, died Sept. 5, 1998, in the Beulah care center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday, at Beulah Congregational Church. Burial will be in Glueckstahl Cemetery, south of Beulah.

She is survived by one son, Fred Buechler, Beulah; three brothers, Conrad Flemmer, Pick City, Ludwig Flemmer, Beulah, and George Flemmer, Beaverton, Ore.; and one sister, Esther Ott, Beulah. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

Elizabeth Simonson
WATFORD CITY -- Elizabeth Louise Simonson, 71, Watford City, died Sept. 7, 1998, at her home. Graveside memorial services will be held later this week at Crown Hill Cemetery, Cut Bank, Mont.

She is survived by her husband, Curtis; two children, Bob Simonson Jr., Littleton, Colo., and Marie Luchi, Watford City; and one sister, Helen Marie Waggoner, White Fish, Mont. (Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City)

Tersita Kills Crow
Tersita Beulah Kills Crow, infant daughter of Marion Kills Crow and Jime Carreon, Minneapolis, died Sept. 3, 1998, in a Minneapolis hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. CDT Wednesday, at Elk Horn Congregational Church, Little Eagle, S.D. Further arrangements are pending with Kesling Funeral Home, Mobridge, S.D.

Dwinia (Bridger) Usselman was born on Nov. 11, 1935 in Troy, Texas. She was the daughter of Perry and Ruby (McPhearson) Bridger. Dwinia was raised and educated in Troy, graduating from Troy High School on May 26, 1953. She attended and graduated from Mary Hardin Bay College in Belton, Texas. On Jan. 19, 1955, she married Anthony Usselman in Fort Hood, Texas.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Paul and Bonnie, Hazen, and Chris, Mandan; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Becky and Tony Roe, Colorado Springs, Colo., JoAnn and Tom Perius, Mandan, Betty Baumiller, Mandan, Peggy Hieb and her special friend, Pete Petz, Mandan; 11 grandchildren, Leslie, Tony, Alysa, Austin, Matt, Sarah, Jimmy, Gary, Terry, Rachel and Kyle; one brother, Charlie Bridger, Mesquite, Texas; and two sisters, Fulton, Mo., and Peggy Bagget, Mesquite, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Anthony, who died in 1990. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)

Marie Koch
Marie Koch, 81, 2811 Marina Road S.E. No. 1, Mandan, died Sept. 8, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation begins Friday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. A parish vigil will be said at 7 p.m. Friday evening.

Marie (Schlosser) Koch was born on April 9, 1917 in Dickinson. She was the daughter of Joe and Rosemarie (Schweigert) Schlosser. She was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School in 1935. She married Russell Koch on Feb. 1, 1941 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan.

Marie is survived by her husband, Russell; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Loretta, Mandan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Steven Witcher, Schererville, Ind. and Kolleen and LeRoy Klein, Bismarck; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray Schlosser, Mandan; and one sister, Edith Adamski, Dickinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents. (Weigel Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Raymond Giedt
ASHLEY -- Raymond ``Ray" Giedt, 77, Ashley, died Sept. 6, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, with the Rev. Roger Noer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church today.

Casketbearers will be Vernon Ruff, Ted Will, Lawrence Nelson and Norman Graff, all of Bismarck, Clarence Kienzle, Wishek, Charlie Kraemer, Oakes, Alton Rau, Linton, and Barbara Kraemer Litsey, Ashley.

Honorary casketbearers will be granddaughters: Dr. Amy Giedt, Katrina Giedt and Margit Giedt, Ludwig Schlabsz, Clarence Schlabsz, Ed Grosz, Edward Giedt, and all of his close friends.

The organist will be Elsie Sackmann and a duet will be sung by Phyllis Staebner and July Hulscher. Also, there will be special music by The Joyful Singers.

Raymond ``Ray" Giedt was born Aug. 1, 1921 to John M. and Margaretha (Kautz) Giedt near Danzig. This is where he grew up and attended school at Danzig. He farmed on the family homestead with his parents. He married Hulda Schlabsz on Oct. 18, 1946 in Ashley. They made their home in Ashley. Soon after moving to town, Ray became a Standard Oil bulk dealer, he operated the Standard Oil Bulk in Ashley for 25 years. After retiring, Ray worked at various part-time jobs.

He and his wife enjoyed spending winters in Arizona with friends. He enjoyed duck and goose hunting and spent many days on the Missouri River near Pollock.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served on various church committees, the Aberdeen Elks, Ashley Country Club and the Ashley Senior Center. He was former Ashley Lion and an Eagle. He had been a City Councilman and Park Board member, and had also been an Ambulance Squad member.

He is survived by his wife, Hulda; two sons, Dr. Kenneth and Andrea Giedt, Aberdeen, and John Giedt, Tulsa, Okla.; one brother, Edward and Sue Giedt, Seaside, Calif.; and three granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; one half-brother and one half-sister. (Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley)
