In memory of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who taught us to be strong and sure -- a love of God and man. We looked up to him and his example of the way a life should be. We will miss him. He wished he could stay but it was his time to go home. The world has lost a marvelous man, but God has gained an Angel. He will continue to be an Angel among us.
Walter Edmund Reuther was born March 14, 1915, in Oliver County, near Center. He was the first born child to Paul and Martha (Hoger) Reuther. Born on the home farm, he attended school through the eighth grade. He was baptized and confirmed in the Rosebud Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. During his lifetime, he dug and hauled coal, farmed for 27 years, worked for Northern Pacific Railroad, in a blacksmith shop, with the Works Project Administration, in a cannery and was a welder at Lockheed shipyards and a mechanic at Boeing.
Walt married Grace L. Berg on March 20, 1941, in Vancouver, Wash., and brought her to the farm, where they had eight children. Walter was a very loving and kind person to people as well as animals. He and Grace took in many young people who just needed love and called them their own.
Surviving him are his wife, Grace; five daughters and sons-in-law, Jodine and Paul Wolbaum, Kent, Wash., Cheri and Del Spicer, Kent, Nancy and Deano Fickert, Roy, Wash., Patti and George Rademacher, Des Moines, Wash., and Michell and Daryl Green, Seattle; one daughter-in-law, Peg Reuther, Mandan; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; special additional family members, Mike and Korinna Schweitzer, Clay and Judy Johnson, Lorrie Ayirs, Penny Rankin, Lori Body and Kathy Heaton; two brothers, Otto Reuther, Center, and Herbert Reuther, Bismarck; four sisters, Irma Sorge, New Salem, Wilma Heid, Minnesota, Hella Keller, Bismarck, and Shirley Davis, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Francis Reuther, Washington, and LaVerne Reuther, Montana; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
