Kenneth Schuricht
Kenneth E. Schuricht, 74, Englewood, Colo., died Sept. 5, 1998, in an Englewood hospice. Services were held on Sept. 10, 1998, at Christ Lutheran Church with burial in Fort Logan Military Cemetery.

Kenneth Schuricht was born Feb. 28, 1924, the son of Edward and Rossie (Headdings) Schuricht at Armel, Colo. He attended schools in Yuma, Colo., and Concordia Lutheran at Seward, Neb. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II for three years. All this time he was on ships in the South Pacific. He married Mildred Reiners on Feb. 14, 1948. Ken's career was with the Bell Telephone Company in Denver, Colo. He and Mildred traveled extensively in the United States and Ennope. They lived in Sunflower Resort at Surprise, Ariz. their home there for the last 11 winters. All those who learned to know and love Ken will remember his devotion to his wife and family, his desire to have a clean and well-kept automobile and his love for his Lord and his church.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and William McDivitt, Loveland, Colo.; Linda and Robert Henry, Fort Collins, Colo., and Tammy and Bill Reidel, Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren and a sister, Neoma and Raymond Maier, New Salem; and nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Merlin.

Alvin Buck
Alvin Buck, 73, Bismarck, died Sept. 28, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Wishek. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek.

He is survived by five daughters and four sons, Doug, Bismarck, Joseph, Vancouver, Wash., Donald, Zap, Craig, Huntington Beach, Calif., Jennie Rodland, Stillwater, Minn., Sandra Holzer, Bismarck, Rose Marie Raney, Kelso, Wash., Renae Emter, Glen Ullin, and Melody Buck, Corvallis, Ore.; and one brother and eight sisters, Esther Becker, Napoleon, Edna Dockter, Wishek, Virginia Schauer, Phoenix, Ariz., LaVerne Rueb, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, LeRoy, Streeter, Odella Hauff, Golden Valley, Cincinette Rueb, Bismarck, Vivian Hansen, Kintyre, and Marlys Grasl, Richmond, Mich. Margaret Decker
DICKINSON -- Margaret Decker, 77, Dickinson, died Sept. 26, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in St. Pius Cemetery, Shefield.

She is survived by her husband, Martin; six sons, Tim, Monticello, Minn., Bob, Eugene, Ore., Richard and Leon, both of Gladstone, and Gerald and Don, both of Dickinson; two daughters, Carol Decker, Dickinson, and Nancy Krebs, Hardin, Mont.; three sisters, Emma Schock and Martha Jahner, both of Dickinson, and Albina Power, Dallas, Texas; and two brothers, Lewis Binstock, Dickinson, and Paul Binstock, New England. Denny Thomson
Denny Thomson, 57, Waseca, Minn., and formerly of Bismarck, died Sept. 28, 1998, in Waseca. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at St. John Lutheran Church, Waseca. Burial will be in Woodville Cemetery, Waseca.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; four daughters, Tammy Thomson, Charleston, S.C., Christina Oelke, Janesville, Minn., Tracey Jones, Temple, Texas, and Tiffany Thomson, Janesville; his mother, Dorothy Thomson, Osceola, Wis.; and one sister, Karen Spies, Osceola. F.F. Bender
ASHLEY -- F.F. Bender, 92, Ashley, died Sept. 27, 1998, in Fargo. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Emma; two sons, Frank, Fargo, and Eugene, College Station, Texas; and one sister, Theresa Kessel, Lodi, Calif. (Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley)

Martha Carlson
WILLISTON -- Martha Carlson, 83, Grenora, died Sept. 28, 1998, in a Williston nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at West Prairie Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Williston.

She is survived by her husband, J. Carl Carlson; and one daughter, Ruth Clemetson, Chandler, Ariz. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Clarence Huizenga
Clarence Huizenga, 75, Pollock, S.D., died Sept. 29, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Hope Reformed Church, Westfield. Further arrangements are pending with Myers Funeral Home, Linton.

Hildred Hokenstad, 83, formerly of 1413 N. 19th St., died Sept. 29, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

DICKINSON -- Stasie Kostelecky, 92, Dickinson, died Sept. 29, 1998, in a Dickinson nursing home. Arrangements are pending with Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Lillian Engbrecht
BEULAH -- Lillian M. Engbrecht, 90, Beulah, died Aug. 29, 1998, in a Beulah nursing home. Services will be 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with the Rev. Kris Nyman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. MDT today at Knife River Care Center, Beulah, and from 2:30-8 p.m. MDT today at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Barbara Oster, Lowell Oster, Courtney Oster, Nadine Schaff, Wade Engbrecht, Wesley Engbrecht, Nicole Engbrecht, Tyler Engbrecht, Brent Engbrecht, Suzanne Lorentzen, Michael Engbrecht, Steven Engbrecht, Jeffrey Engbrecht, Kimberly Engbrecht, David Engbrecht, Brian Engbrecht and Jason Engbrecht.

Lillian was born on Sept. 12, 1907, in Dodge, a daughter of Charles and Hilda (Johnson) Gustafson. Her early education was at Dodge, and in 1927 she became the first high school graduate from the Dodge High School. She played basketball for the girls team in Dodge.

While in high school, she decided that she would like to be a teacher, and immediately after graduation, she attended a summer session at Dickinson State Teachers College.

She started her teaching career in a small rural school near Dodge in the fall of 1927. After two years of teaching, she returned to Dickinson and completed her education.

Lillian returned to Dodge and taught grade school and also handled physical education programs for the high school girls. In 1931, she organized a boys and girls 4-H club in Dodge.

On June 4, 1934, she married Herbert Engbrecht. They worked at the grocery business at Golden Valley and Beulah until 1943, when they started farming southeast of Golden Valley. When the youngest of their five children started school, Lillian returned to teaching.

In 1957, the Engbrechts moved to Golden Valley and started an insurance business in both Golden Valley and Beulah. in 1960, they moved to Beulah and Lillian again became involved in teaching. She became the first special education teacher in Mercer County.

Herb died in the fall of 1967. Lillian kept busy holding the business together and settled down to running a well organized insurance and real estate business in Beulah. She retired in 1969. On Oct. 24, 1990, she became a resident of the Knife River Care Center, Beulah.

Lillian was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah. While in Golden Valley area, she taught Sunday School and worked actively in organizing an American Lutheran Church Women group at Golgotha Lutheran Church. She was a 4-H leader for 9 years.

She is survived by four sons and daughter-in-laws, Keith and Jan Engbrecht, Bismarck, Don and Jackie Engbrecht, Mandan, Dean and Carol Engbrecht, St. Charles, Ill., and Ray and Marilyn Engbrecht, Golden Valley; one son-in-law, Leland Oster and his wife, Eunice, Hazen; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Delia Flockhart, Virgil, Kan.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Inez Oster; three brothers and one sister. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah and Hazen)

Luella Krein
Luella Krein, 88, Bismarck, died Sept. 1, 1998, in a Bismarck care center. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jim Cissell officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Luella Huber was born Aug. 10, 1910, in Hutchinson County, S.D., to Jacob and Elizabeth (Delk) Huber. As a young girl she moved with her parents to a farm near Harvey. On Jan. 22, 1934, she was united in marriage to Benjamin Krein at McClusky. They farmed on various farms in Sheridan and Burleigh counties before moving to Goodrich in 1945 and to Bismarck in 1950.

Luella was known for her love of gardening. She raised many vegetables and flowers until her health started to fail.

Luella enjoyed her later years as an RSVP volunteer at Bismarck's Senior Center. She enjoyed crafts of all kinds but, especially, enjoyed making crocheted items for relatives and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ben Krein, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Richard Grenz, and Verlla and Thomas Geloff, all of Bismarck; five grandchildren, Gail Grenz, McKinney, Texas, Cindy and Jack Kramer, Kingman, Ariz., Mike and Peggy Geloff, Sterling, and Tim Geloff, Brian and Alice Geloff, all of Bismarck; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; one sister, Dorma Bush, South San Francisco, Calif.; four brothers, Rueben and Agatha Huber, Harvey, Ray Huber, Nyssa, Ore., Dale and Audrey Huber, Golden Valley, Minn., and Vernon and Marcella Huber, San Bernardino, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Rudolph, in infancy; Eldon Huber, Harvey; and Melvin Huber, Portland, Ore.

The family requests memorials to the Burleigh County Senior Center or the church of the donor's choice. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

EuDonna `Donna' Schlickenmayer
EuDonna ``Donna" R. Schlickenmayer, 53, 614 West Sweet Ave., No. 46, Bismarck, died Sept. 1, 1998, at her residence. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Bismarck.

EuDonna Davis was born on Sept. 16, 1944, in Boulder, Colo., the daughter of John and Norma Davis. She was raised and attended school in Spokane, Wash. She later married Larry Schlickenmayer. EuDonna was a volunteer at the Abused Adult Resource Center and was a greeter at Corpus Christi Church.

EuDonna is survived by four sons and one daughter-in-law, John and Diane Payne, Mandan, Bruce Payne, Bismarck, Brian Payne, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Gary Schlickenmayer, St. Cloud, Minn.; her parents, John and Norma Davis, Coeur d'Alene; three grandchildren, Kayla Payne, Cody Payne and Cory Lee Payne; two sisters, Connie Vermillian and LaVonne Keezer, both of Spokane, Wash.; special friends, Diane Zainhofsky and Agnes Fischer, both of Bismarck; and two special cats, Sam and Sheba.

EuDonna was a strong-hearted person, surviving a lung and kidney transplant, and will be missed by her children, grandchildren and many, many friends. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Audrey Reed
NEW TOWN -- Audrey Reed, 69, New Town, died Aug. 31, 1998. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, New Town. Burial will be in Raub Catholic Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Reed Sr.; her sons, Leonard Reed, Paul Reed Jr. and Andrew Reed, New Town; her daughters, Pauline Hinden, Stanley, Cecelia Reed and Ethel Reed, both of New Town, Clarice Reed, Dunseith, and Carol DuBois, New Town; her brothers, Kenneth Huntsalong, Jamestown, Russell Huntsalong, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Roger Huntsalong, Rock Point, Ariz.; and one sister, Annie Lockwood, New Town. Sarah Salveson
WILLISTON -- Sarah Nelson Salveson, 93, Williston, died Aug. 31, 1998, in a Williston nursing home. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Williston. Burial will be in Corinth Cemetery at 2 p.m. today.

She is survived by her children, Avis Johnson, Queen Valley, Ariz., Benjamin Salveson, Townsend, Mont., and Wayne Salveson, Williston; and three sisters, Rose Gunderson, Seattle, and Bertha Larson and Adell Head, both of Gray Lake, Ill. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)

Caroline Moen
HETTINGER -- Caroline Moen, 89, Hettinger, died Sept. 2, 1998, in a Hettinger nursing home. Services will be 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at Bucyrus Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Hettinger Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, David, Hettinger; and two daughters, Sherry Honeyman, Hettinger, and Claudia Abbott, Fort Collins, Colo. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Hettinger)

Donovan Brown
Donovan Brown, 62, 1606 Monte Drive, Mandan, died Sept. 2, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan. Arrangements are pending with Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.

Joyce Reiter
DICKINSON -- Joyce Reiter, 66, Dickinson, died Sept. 1, 1998, in a Dickinson hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. MDT Friday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson. Further arrangements are pending.

Sonja Sorlie
Sonja Louise Sorlie died Aug. 2, 1997 in a Fargo hospital. A memorial service was held Aug. 5 the First Presbyterian Church in Bemidji, Minn., with the Rev. David Cave officiating.

Sonja was born May 12, 1953, in Bismarck, to Helen and Glenn Sorlie. Sonja attended Bismarck schools, graduating from Bismarck High School in 1971. She earned a degree in commercial art from Bemidji State University. Sonja married Mike Mohler of Bemidji. She was a manager at B. Dalton Bookstore in Bemidji for many years, and held a variety of other retail sales positions. She also worked at the Public Library. Sonja married Kirk Eakins in October of 1996.

Sonja loved her home on Lake Movil, her cats, and her books. She expressed her fondness for nature and all animals through her exquisite art work. Sonja's gentle spirit and great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Kirk; her mother Helen Sorlie, Bismarck; one sister Sue Sorlie, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law Gus and Mary Sorlie, Bismarck; and nephews Eric Sorlie, Bismarck, Cameron Sorlie, Belgrade, MT, and Christopher Sorlie, Atlanta, GA.

She was preceded in death by her father Glenn Sorlie; and her brother, Fraser Sorlie.

If so desired, memorials may be made to the Central Dakota Humane Society.

George Pehl
George Pehl, 89, Steele, formerly of Arena, died July 26, 1997, in the Steele nursing home. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Golden Manor Nursing Home, Steele, with burial in Arena Cemetery.

George was born July 11, 1908, in Arena, the son of George Sr. and Paulina (Seidel) Pehl. He was one of 21 children. George married Dorothy Barkman, daughter of Dallas and Hattie Barkman, Oct. 3, 1931. During the first part of his life he lived on the family farm at Arena, where he farmed and raised Aberdeen Angus. He worked as a foreman for WPA as Democratic Precinct Committeeman for many years and served on the FHA board. He was a mail carrier and postmaster in the Arena vicinity for over 40 years. During those years, he never took a day of sick leave. People on his mail route said many times they could set their clocks by him. The mail was always delivered by means of car, truck, tractor, sled or airplane, whichever the weather decreed. He will be sorely missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends.

George is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Neil and Hazel, Arena, and George "Corky," Arena; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Tom McCraney, Kennewick, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Ivers, Chehalis, Wash., Lydia Heil, California, and Louise Borale, Texas; a half-brother, Willis, Chehalis; half-sisters, Arlene Gehraman, Demoris Adolphson and Ruby Summers; one step-brother, Jake Merkel and step-sister, Lydia Hoffman.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Sr.; his mother, Paulina; and his step-mother, Katherina Merkel; four brothers, Edmund and Julius, Fred and Adolph; sisters, Emma Leske, Alma Weistock; step-brothers, Bill and John Merkel; one half-sister, Dorothy P. "Tootsie;" step-sisters, Rose Wetzel and Martha Hall.

De Verne 'Sam' Neumiller
De Verne "Sam" Neumiller, 63, Bismarck, formerly of Bowden, died Aug. 6, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, and 3 p.m. Saturday at Bowdon Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Heaton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour before each service at the church.

De Verne Neumiller, son of Fred and Ida Neumiller, was born May 20, 1934, at Heaton, where he grew up and received his elementary and junior high education. He graduated from Bowdon High School in 1952, and enrolled at what is now North Dakota State University in Fargo. He later attended Valley City State College for a time. On Feb. 2, 1956, he was married to Shirley Laber at New Rockford. They made their home at Bowdon, where they farmed, and owned an excavating business. They had three sons, Mike, Steve and Rick. Shirley passed away in July 1965. On July 22, 1966, he was married to Cheryl Carson Reeff at Valley City. They made their home in Bowdon where he continued to farm and also owned Neumiller Oil Co. They had two children, Cory and Nikki. In 1980 they moved to Bismarck where he worked as a realtor and was sales manager for Econ Inc. In 1986, following a severe stroke, he became a resident of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck, where he has resided since.

While living in Bowdon, he was a member of Bowdon Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, Mandan; four sons, Mike, Hawaii, Steve and Rick, both of Bowdon, and Cory, Two Harbors, Minn.; one daughter, Nikki, Bismarck; three grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Lila and Lynn Delger, Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley; an infant daughter; and his parents.
