Tony Grismer
HOSMER -- Tony Grismer, 62, Hosmer, died Oct. 17, 1997, in the Bowdle hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hosmer. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Madonna; three sons, Roy, Bowdle, Russell, Minneapolis, and Rod, DeSmet; three daughters, Robin Ollila, Dickinson, Ramona Malsom, Pella, Iowa, and Rhonda Karels, St. Cloud, Minn.; two brothers, Arnie, Stillwater, Minn., and Tom, San Diego; and two sisters, LaVern Fuhrmann and Jeanneatte Lunders, both of Roscoe. Clayton Spafford
WESTHOPE -- Clayton M. Spafford, 62, Westhope and Bismarck, died Oct. 17, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at First Presbyterian Church, Westhope. Burial will be in Westhope Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, and 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, both at Nero Funeral Home, Westhope.

Clayton M. Spafford, a son of Cecil and Clara (Krogen) Spafford, was born on Sept. 9, 1935, at Maxbass, N.D. He was reared there, and attended school in Maxbass. Following the completion of his formal education, he entered the U.S. Army, and served during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he returned to North Dakota, and settled in the Westhope-Maxbassa area, where he farmed. In addition to his farming interests, Clayton was also employed by the Cardinal Drilling Co. for many years. On Jan. 24, 1966, he was married to Thelma Stead in Aberdeen, S.D. For the past seven years, they have resided at Westhope during the summer months, and lived in Bismarck in the winter.

He was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge in Maxbass, and the V.F.W. in Bismarck.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma; three daughters, Patricia Paine, Colorado Springs, Colo., Mary Sivertson, Surrey, and Linda Spafford, Fargo; two brothers, Ralph, Maxbass, and Cecil, Minot; and four sisters, Marian Gorman, Minneapolis, Kay Blackwell, Seaford, Va, Sharon Jensen, Upham, and Gail Stickle, Tampico, Ill.

Dean Blaskowski
Dean Blaskowski, 28, Bismarck, died Oct. 21, 1997, in his home in Bismarck. Services will be held at 10-30 a.m. Friday at Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, with burial in St. Margaret's Cemetery, Buchanan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, where a prayer service will begin at 7 tonight.

Dean Allen Blaskowski was born Jan. 5, 1969, in Jamestown, the son of Robert Paul and Joan (Hanson) Blaskowski. He was raised and attended school in Buchanan, graduating from Pingree-Buchanan High School in 1987. He then worked in road construction and joined the National Guard. He also worked for his brother, Randy, farming in the Buchanan area. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1989, serving as a member of the military police until his discharge in 1992. He attended Bismarck State College for two years, and in May 1995, began working as a correction officer at North Dakota State Penitentiary.

He is survived by his mother, Joan Blaskowski; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Terry and Ken Ratts, Bismarck, Kathy and Steve Eckroth, Jamestown, and Bobbi Jo and Mike Trosen, Miller, S.D.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Randy and Lisa, Buchanan, and Jeff and Wanda, Fisher, Minn.; and several nieces; nephews and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his grandparents.

Lydia Lennick
NEW SALEM -- Lydia H. Lennick, 89, New Salem, died Oct. 21, 1997, in Glen Ullin. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. MDT Friday at Evangelical Congregational Church, Glen Ullin, with burial in Glen Ullin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A prayer service will begin at 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Lydia Kroh was born Oct. 18, 1908, in Bluegrass, the daughter of Louis and Pauline (Ratchen) Kroh. She was raised and educated at Bluegrass. The family moved into Glen Ullin in 1925. She married Theodore Lennick, Nov. 29, 1929, at Bluegrass. They farmed in the Bluegrass area for 35 years. They moved to New Salem after their retirement. Lydia remained in New Salem until entering Marian Manor Nursing Home in Glen Ullin, Oct. 1, 1997.

She was a member of Evangelical Congregational Church, Glen Ullin. She is survived by two sons, Herb, Mandan, and Melvin, Center; three daughters, Eleanor Opp, Hebron, and Buffy Ustanko and Millie Holzer, both of Bismarck; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five sisters; two brothers; and one granddaughter.

Erna Anderson
DICKINSON -- Erna Anderson, 85, Dickinson, formerly of Gladston, died Oct. 21, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. MDT Saturday, at Normanna Lutheran Church, Dunn Center. Burial will be in Dunn Center Cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Dale, Bismarck; and two daughters, Sharon Sorenson, Erie, Mich., and Linda Perhus, Taylor. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Marjorie Galt
CARRINGTON -- Marjorie Galt, 87, Carrington, died Oct. 21, 1997, in a Carrington nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Federated Church, Carrington. Burial will be in the Carrington Cemetery. Further arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

George Anderson
George L. Anderson, 80, Mesa, Ariz., and formerly of New Rockford, died Oct. 13, 1997, at his home in Mesa. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at First Lutheran Church, New Rockford.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; one daugther, Linda Soulis, Las Vegas; one brother, Gilbert Anderson, Missoula, Mont.; and three sisters, Ione Valer and Mary Rosenberg, both of New Rockford, and Alma Berglund, Minneapolis. (Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford)

Barbara Fahrer
NEW ROCKFORD -- Barbara Fahrer, 87, New Rockford, died Oct. 19, 1997, in a New Rockford nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m., November 1, 1997, at United Methodist Church, New Rockford. Further arrangements are pending with Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Johanna Horner
LINTON -- Johanna Horner, 89, Linton, died Oct. 22, 1997, in a Strasburg nursing home.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Linton. Burial will be in the church's cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, at Myers Funeral Home, Linton, and one hour prior to the service at the church. A rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was born Aug. 6, 1908, at Strasburg, daughter of Joseph and Anna (Vetter) Lipp. She attended school at Wakapala S.D. Following her marriage to George J. Horner on Nov. 17, 1927, in Emmons County, they farmed in the St. Michael's area east of Linton. In 1946, they moved to a farm on the east edge of Linton. George died June 19, 1985. Johanna moved to the Strasburg nursing home in July 1997.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and Christian Mothers.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, John J. and Virginia, Linton, Bill and Lucy, Winslow, Ariz, James and Adelphia, Bismarck, and Dennis and Sally, New Richmond, Wis.; two daughters and one son-in-law Luella Grossman, Linton, and Verna and Frances Bosch, Bismarck; one daughter-in law, Johanna Horner, Linton; one sister and brother-in-law, Alberta and Adam Gefre, Linton; 28 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Alvin; two daughters, Anna Mary and Elaine; one son-in law, Erwin Grossman; one grandson, Craig Horner; and one great grandson, Levi Bernhardt.(Myers Funeral Home, Linton)

Lena Hopkins
GARRISON -- Lena Hopkins, 99, Garrison, died Oct. 21, 1997, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at First United Church of Christ, Garrison. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Friday, at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

She is survived by on son, Dale, Ryder. (Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison)

Anton Binstock
DICKINSON -- Anton "Tony" Binstock, 90, Dickinson, died Oct. 21, 1997, in a Dickinson hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Friday, at St. Henry's Catholic Church, Regent. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in Regent Cemetery.

He is survived by his six sons, Kasper and Sam, Regent, Eddie, Dickinson, Joe, Bismarck, Leonard, Omaha, Neb., and Tony, Bismarck; and three daughters, Josephine Koppinger and Ceal Paul, Dickinson, and Minnie Paluch, Rapid City, S.D. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott)

James Irwin
James Eugene Irwin, 56, Baytown, Texas, formerly of Hazen, died Oct. 18, 1997, in an Albuquerque, N.M. hospital. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. MDT, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen.

He is survived by one daughter, Danielle, Hazen; his mother, Farmington, N.M., and one brother, John, Hurricane, Utah.

John Wrenn
John Elden Wrenn, 80, Merced, Calif., died Oct. 20, 1997. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday, at Bowman Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia; four sons, Steven, Fallon, Nev., John, Reno, Nev., Timothy, Sacramento, Calif., and David, Sparks, Nev. (Krebsbach Funeral Home, Bowman)

Marian E. Fettig
MINOT -- Marian E. Fettig, 52, Minot, died Oct. 20, 1997, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, at Thomas Family Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; one daughter, Debra Nichols, Minot; two sons, Gary, Minot, and Duane, Grand Forks; her mother, Esther Fischer, Dickinson; two sisters, Loretta Fettig and Viola Hauck, both of Dickinson; and one brother, Larry Fischer, Beach.

Clarence Falkenstein
Clarence H. Falkenstein, 92, 106 Versailles Ave., Bismarck, died Oct. 24, 1997, at his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at First Evangelical Free Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Terry Kern and George Walker officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, at Boelter Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

He was born Sept. 24, 1905, in Burleigh County, one of nine children of Iran and Emma (Anderson) Falkenstein. He was raised and educated in rural schools and also attended St. Paul Bible School.

On Nov. 5, 1928, Clarence married Alta Thompson in Bismarck. Following their marriage, they farmed on the Thompson homestead until retiring in 1965. They moved to Bismarck in 1966, and Clarence worked at Melroe for several years.

He enjoyed woodworking and refinishing wood.

Clarence was a charter member and a board member of the Misison Evangelical Free Church of rural Wilton, where he taught Sunday School. He was a 4-H Leader of the Still Hustlers. He served on the Federal Land Bank, Ecklund Township and School Boards. Clarence currently was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church of Bismarck, where he also served on the board.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Glenn Magnuson, Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Leslie and Phyllis, Wilton, and Clifton and Anne, Lafayette, Calif.; one sister, Ruth Keator, Bismarck; one brother-in-law, Franklin Lorier, LaMirada, Calif.; ten grandchildren, Joan Oberg, Kurt and Alan Falkenstein, Jolene Magnuson, Carol Dymerski, Bradley, Mia and Holli Falkenstein, Ian Cazabat, and Trina Parker; and nine great-grandchildren, Chad, Amanda and Angela Oberg, Hope, Charity and Trudi Falkenstein, Connor and Cady Dymerski, and Zachary Parker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alta, in 1985; and one grandson, Kevin, in 1975.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donor's choice.

Pauline Renkert
Pauline Marzolf Renkert, 84, Mandan, died Oct. 24, 1997, in a Mandan nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.

She is survived by one son, Jack, Las Vegas. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Albert Cordner
Albert D. "Al" Cordner, 90, 1208 N. Second St., died Oct. 24, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan. There will be no visitation.

Al was born July 27, 1907, in Bismarck to Joseph and Estella (Marvel) Cordner. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1927. Al married Marjorie Shaw on August 15, 1931. For several years he was employed with Richmond's Bootery and the Shoe Mart. In 1938, he was a salesman for Butler Brothers of Minneapolis and moved to Great Falls, Mont. In 1943, they moved to Minneapolis. He returned to Bismarck in 1949, and was associated with Dakota Flooring. In the early 1950's, he was a partner and manager of Cordner's Gift Shop. During this time, he was a member of the Bismarck City Commission. In the early 1960's, he worked for the N.D. State Highway Dept. as a right-away agent. Retiring from the highway department, he went to Basin Electric as a land agent until his retirement in 1984.

Al enjoyed walking the malls and visiting with his many friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed working in his garden, often supplying his neighbors and family with his abundance of produce. Al was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 5, Scottish Rite, El Zagal Shrine, life member of the Elks Lodge, and International Right-Away Association, and a long time member of McCabe United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia K. Heidt, Bismarck, and Pamela J. and L. Jack Holden, Meridian, Idaho; five grandchildren and their spouses, Marc Heidt, Kelly and Jeff Wetzel, Kimberly and Tab Meyer, Jill Marie and Dr. Rick Becker, and Timothy and Pam Holden; 11 great grandchildren, Jessica, Justin and Krystal Wetzel, Lesley Heidt, Carly, Kaylin and Josh Meyer, Cory and Tabitha Holden, Gannon, Dylan and Wyatt Becker; Al's extended family, Karen Bauer and her sons, Mitchell, Conrad and Daniel; and two sisters, Marie Tyler, Bismarck, and Madeline Childs, Mesa, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Shriners Hospital, Minneapolis. Al's family also wishes to thank the St. Alexius Health Care and Hospice, and specially to all the caregivers that have helped along the way.

Darlene Slavick
DICKINSON -- Darlene Slavick, 64, Dickinson, died Oct. 24, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 9 a.m. MST Wednesday, at First Congregational-United Church of Christ, Dickinson. Burial will be in Medina Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; one son, Keith, Dickinson; two daughters, Sandra Sim, Williston, and Candace Maule, Dickinson; her mother, Rachel Moser, Medina; two brothers, Roger Moser and Curtis Moser, both of Medina; and two sisters, Phyllis Hochhalter, Medina, and Shirley Hanson, Las Vegas. Leo Deichert
CARSON -- Leo J. Deichert, 64, Carson, died Oct. 24, 1997, at home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Carson. Burial will be in Carson Community Cemetery.

He is survived by three brothers, Otto, South Sioux City, Neb., Nicholas, Flasher, and Adam, Smith Center, Kan.; and two sisters, Hilda Maichel, Bismarck, and Cecilia Ranum, Williston. (Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig)

Nancy Teller
JAMESTOWN -- Nancy Lucille Teller, 63, Jamestown, died Oct. 26, 1997, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Jamestown. Burial will be in Bowdon Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Pastor Stanley; one daughter, Nannette Wright, West Carrollton, Ohio; and one son, Peter, Salem, Ore. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

ALEXANDER -- Orville Haugen, 80, rural Alexander, died Oct. 26, 1997, at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Edith Kilzer
MOTT -- Edith L. Kilzer, 67, Mott, died Oct. 9, 1997. Services will be at 10-30 a.m. MDT Tuesday, at Church of St. Vincent de Paul, Mott. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
