He is survived by his wife, Julia; one daughter, Janice Willman, Jamestown; one son, James, Rainsville, Ohio; one sister, Louise Knudson, Redlands, Calif.,; and one brother, Ray, Desert Hot Springs, Calif. (Lisko Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Lee Stepina
JAMESTOWN -- Lee E. Stepina, 63, Jamestown, died Oct. 19, 1996, in Jamestown. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, with burial in Mapleview Cemetery.

He is survived by three sons, Michael, Grafton, Keith, Denver, and Lee, Minnetonka, Minn.; and three daughters, Karol Villasmil, Rochester, N.Y., Penny Szczepanski, Penfield, N.Y., and Peggy Benoit, Pahrump, Nev.; and one brother, Jerry, Aberdeen, S.D. (Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown)

Reinhold Otterstetter
WISHEK -- Reinhold J. Otterstetter, 84, Oakes, formerly of Wishek, died Oct. 19, 1996, in the Oakes nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Carlsen-Holte Funeral Home, Ellendale, with burial in Ellendale Cemetery.

He is survived by one son; seven daughters; two brothers, Arthur and Sam, both of Oakes; and one sister, Edna Novek, Rutlich, Minn.

Geraldine Haar
Geraldine Vaughn Haar, 65, Bismarck, died Oct. 19, 1996, at her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parkview Bible Church, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Miller Funeral Home, Bowdle, S.D.

Tillie Duttenhefer
Tillie Duttenhefer, 88, 1214 Simle Drive, formerly of Dodge, died Oct. 18, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at noon CDT Tuesday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. MDT Tuesday at St. Martin's Cemetery, rural Dodge.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a rosary will be said at 7 tonight, followed by a vigil.

Tillie was born, raised and educated near Dodge. She married Barney Duttenhefer, Nov. 11, 1940, near Dodge. They farmed in the Dodge area until 1980, when they retired and moved to Bismarck. Grandma Tillie was known for her love of children and her positive attitude.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Liana, Dodge, and Floyd and Daphne, Underwood; three daughters and sons-in-law, Leona Duttenhefer, and Tess and Rick Frohlich, all of Bismarck, and Carol Ann and Sidney Fox, Singletree, Colo.; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Striefel and Catherine Klein, both of Bismarck; and three brothers, Steve Zarr and John Zarr, both of Dodge, and August Zarr, Anaconda, Mont.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney; and one son, Daniel.

Eleanor Wagner
TURTLE LAKE -- Eleanor L. Wagner, 71, Turtle Lake, died Oct. 19, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital after a long illness. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake, with the Revs. Edward Tornow and Ben Davis officiating. Burial will be in Turtle Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:30-9 p.m. Tuesday at Goetz Funeral Home, Turtle Lake, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Eleanor Loretta Gett was born Jan. 25, 1925, near Turtle Lake, to Jacob and Pauline (Sackman) Gett. She grew up on her parents' farm northeast of Turtle Lake, where she attended rural school and Turtle Lake High School. As a young woman she did domestic work at home and also in the Turtle Lake area. She married Edwin Wagner, Nov. 29, 1945 in Turtle Lake. They lived and farmed the Gett homestead northeast of Turtle Lake. In 1982 they moved into Turtle Lake.

She was a member of Zion Conservative Congregational Church at Turtle Lake. She became a resident of the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in August of 1995.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Dennis Wetzel, Glen Ullin, and Sharon and Hugh Seeley, Queenstown, Md.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Etta, Adrian, Mich., and Doug and Patty, Lincoln; five grandchildren; and three sisters and one brother-in-law, Edna and Herb Rauser, Mercer, Ruby Herr, Bismarck, and Irene Boe, Turtle Lake.

Lena Wehri
GLEN ULLIN -- Lena (Gartner) Wehri, 85, Aberdeen, S.D., died Oct. 22, 1996, in Aberdeen. Services will be held at 11 a.m. MDT Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the church, where a prayer service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Lena Fischer was born Aug. 31, 1911, in Glen Ullin, the daughter of Joseph and Florentine (Hoerner) Fischer. She was raised and educated near Glen Ullin and received her teaching certificate from Dickinson State College. She taught in rural schools most of her life with the exception of a couple of years at Glen Ullin school. She married Adam Gartner in Hebron. They made their home in Glen Ullin and raised five children. Lena continued teaching in the rural districts, taught piano lessons and was a volunteer librarian.

Lena was involved in her church where she played the organ for 60 years. She was a member of Christian Mothers, Ladies Aid and Glen Ullin Art Association. Adam died in 1968. In 1975 she married Harry Wehri. Lena moved to Dickinson, and later to Aberdeen. She entered Americana Nursing Home in Aberdeen. Her family will always have a smile as they remember her for her work and her many talents, especially in her crafts and beautiful works of art.

She is survived by her husband, Harry; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gerald Gartner, Coon Rapids, Minn., and Richard and Carla Gartner, Fargo; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Jacqueline Dassinger, Forsyth, Mont., Noreen and Myron Lefor, Aberdeen, and Linda and Ron Meredith, Baker, Mont.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sister M. Anaclete Fischer, Pierre, S.D. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Glen Ullin)

Wilma K. Snow, 69, 619 E. Interstate Ave., died Oct. 23, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Dorothy Blackstead
VELVA -- Dorothy Blackstead, 97, McHenry County, died Oct. 22, 1996, in the Velva hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva. Further arrangements are pending at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva.

Susan Wacker
BOWMAN -- Susan K. Wacker, 53, Bowman, died Oct. 22, 1996, in the Bowman hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Bowman Lutheran Church, with burial in Bowman Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Dale; her parents, Don and Grace Voss, Bowman; one son, John Stoldorf, Grand Forks; and two daughters, Shari Wise, Grand Forks, and Jamie Stoldorf, Dickinson. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)

George Landeis
DICKINSON -- George H. Landeis, 79, Dickinson, died Oct. 23, 1996, in a Dickinson nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Karen Maloney
Karen M. Maloney, 33, Bismarck, died Oct. 22, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, Washburn.

She is survived by one son, Chuck, Bismarck; one daughter, Sarah Maloney, Bismarck; three brothers, Bob, Hebron, Rod, Bismarck, and Ray, St. Joseph, Mo.; and four sisters, Linda Oster, Page, Ariz., Donna Thomas, Emmett, Idaho, and Lee Ann Christmann and Gladys Williams, both of Mandan.

Peter Loeb
Peter Loeb, 72, Mandan, died Oct. 17, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Funeral arrangements are pending with Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Simon Bleth
TAYLOR-- Simon Bleth, 84, Taylor, died Oct. 16, 1997, in the Richardton hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Monday, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richardton. Burial will be in the church's cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; one daughter, Geraldine Birdsell, Queen Creek, Ariz.; three sons, Dwight and David, both of Dickinson, and Ken, Williston; five sisters, Betty Fox, Tacoma, Wash., Magdalene Wanner, Dickinson, Rose Fleck, Yakima, Wash., and Isabel Bleth and Barbara Kuntz, both of Bismarck; and four brothers, Vincent Mether, Glen Ullin, Jake and Paul Mether, both of Spokane, Wash., and Peter Mether, San Diego. Sylvia Shaw
Sylvia Shaw, 51, Mandan, died Oct. 17, 1997, in a Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Word of Faith Church, Bismarck. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Sylvia Ann Shaw was born Oct. 29, 1945, in Portland, Maine, the daughter of Robert LaRue and Shirley (Gray) Shaw. Her family moved to Mandan when she was a year old. Sylvia attended Mandan Schools, graduating from Mandan High School in 1963. She also attended Bismarck State College. Sylvia worked for Bill Townsend at Deluxe Cleaners and Capital Laundry as a bookkeeper for many years. At the time of becoming ill in December of 1996, she was working at Aaction Movers.

She enjoyed bowling and her teammates were her closest and dearest friends.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Allen Shaw, Manhattan, Kan.; her mother, Shirley Shaw, Mandan; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Jeffrey Feldner, Logsden, Ore., and Mary Beth and DuWayne Heid, Bismarck; two nieces, Sierra and Hannah Feldner; two nephews, Jason and Christopher Heid; and special friends, Sue Smith, Pam Beckler and Barb Sherman. Jaydia Friedt
MOTT -- Jaylia D. Friedt, 5, Mott, died Oct. 17, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. MDT Monday, at Church of St. Vincent de Paul, Mott. Burial will be in the church's cemetery.

She is survived by her parents, Daniel and Mary; one brother, Chris; and one sister, Hannah, both at home; her grandparents, Bill and Pat Friedt, Mott, Russ Hyde, Salmon, Idaho, and Debbie Erny, Maxville, Mont. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Mott)

Lloyd Klatt
Lloyd A. Klatt, 61, Columbia, S.C., died Oct. 15, 1997. Services will be held at 3 p.m. today, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel, Columbia.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Natalie Bowen, Denver, and Cynthia Klatt, New Salem; one brother, Carl, Miles City, Mont.; and one sister, Marian Ruether, Center.

Irene Hanson
UNDERWOOD -- Irene E. Hanson, 87, Underwood, died Oct. 16, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Augustana Lutheran Church, Underwood. Burial will be in Birka Lutheran Cemetery, rural Washburn.

She is survived by seven daughters, Idise-Arlene Holland, Mount Vernon, Wash., Ida Alexander, Lewistown, Mont., Irene Stadick, West Fargo, Ione Heger, Underwood, Lillian Mayer, Sedro Wooley, Wash., Yvonne Dougherty, Santa Maria, Calif., and Catherine Putney, Pinale, Calif.; and one sister, Alice Kreiz, Lisbon. Veron Peterson
WILTON -- Veron L. Peterson, 91, Wilton, died Oct. 18, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at First Presbyterian Church, Wilton, with the Rev. Mary Lee-Lint officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Wilton.

Visitation will be from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today and 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, both at Goetz Funeral Home, Washburn, and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Veron Lester Peterson was born Aug. 16, 1906, southwest of Wilton in Painted Woods Township where he grew up and attended rural school. His parents were Gustav and Augusta (Bergman) Peterson. As a young man, he worked on the farm with his father, as well as helping other farmers in the area. For a time, he worked as a shipping clerk in Minot for Dakota Transfer and Motor Service. He also worked near Wilton in both the underground coal mines and the strip mines. He married Edith Franklund on Nov. 19, 1930, in Wilton. They lived near Mercer, and then in 1935, moved to a farm in Painted Woods Township. In 1942, they moved into Wilton where Veron worked as a butcher, mechanic, painter and carpenter. Edith died on Sept. 8, 1988.

Veron remained living in Wilton where he was an active member of the Senior Citizens and First Presbyterian Church. He had served as acting mayor of Wilton and was a past member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He enjoyed his hobby of making miniature rocking chairs.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Ann, Wilton, and Orville and Jean, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Marvin Seibold, Sanibel Island, Fl., and LaVerne and Ken Hessinger, San Jose, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

James Sullivan
James P. Sullivan, 79, Mandan, died Oct. 17, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at noon Wednesday, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, on Oct. 25, 1997.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a prayer vigil said at 7 p.m. that evening.

Jim was born Sept. 5, 1918, in New Rockford, the son of John J. and Eleanor (Jentges) Sullivan. Jim attended school in New Rockford, moving with his family to Grand Forks in 1928. He graduated from St. James Academy in 1937. On Dec. 31, 1940, Jim married Beverly Marie Cadwell in Grand Forks. Jim worked for Whelan Transfer and Mahowald's Department Store in Grand Forks. They moved to Mandan in 1949, where he was employed at Kennelly Furniture Store. From 1958 until 1969, Jim owned and operated Sullivan Furniture Store, Mandan. From 1969 until 1981, he worked for Metropolitan Life.

Jim was a member of Mandan Moose, Elks, Eagles and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed watching and participating in all sports, and especially enjoyed being with his family and friends.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas D. and Linda, Bismarck; three grandchildren, Nancy, Bryan and Michael, Bismarck; two brothers and sisters-in-law, M.M. and Mary Ellen, Redmond, Wash., and M.J. and Kathleen, San Francisco; two sisters, Patricia Raymond, Vancouver, Wash., and Sister Mary, The Dalles, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Pluchos, Washougal, Wash., and Mary Sullivan, San Francisco; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends, Eleanor Dahlquist, Chuck, Harold and Virgie Wentz, and Art and Bernie Digby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly, who died Oct. 25, 1996; three brothers, John Henry, Ed and Dan; and one sister, Bernice.

The family prefers memorials to American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or Camp Grassick.

Lavina Aichele
Lavina Aichele, Detroit Lakes, Minn., died Oct. 19, 1997, in Minnesota. Further arrangements are pending with Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck.

Wendelin Schmaltz
Wendelin Schmaltz, 88, 909 N. 16th St., died Oct. 19, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Further arrangements are pending with Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck.

Warren Hart
Warren "Mike Hart," 73, Bismarck, died Oct. 18, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Boelter Funeral Home.

Warren was born Nov. 30, 1923, in Werner, the son of Elmer Eugene and Willa Bernice (McMullen) Hart. He attended school in Werner and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Medora. Warren entered the U.S. Army May 6, 1943, and was honorably discharged in 1945. Upon his return, he married Edna Lorraine Splerat in Wilbeax, Mont. He was employed at Hedahl Motor Supply for 32 years until early retirement due to a back injury.

Warren loved woodworking and camping. Warren was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Edna; one daughter and son-in-law, Cleo and David Schweitzer, Bismarck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Nicki Hart, Minneapolis, and Wayne and Susan Hart, West Fargo; six grandsons; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Thomas, Neal and Milton.
