Helen Schaible
JAMESTOWN -- Helen Schaible, 84, Jamestown, died Oct. 2, 1996, in the Jamestown nursing home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
She is survived by four daughters, Leona O'Connell, Galway, Ireland, Viola Ackerman, Louella Luer, all of Jamestown, and Darlene Buckeye, Council Bluffs, Iowa; five sisters, Bertha Job, Jamestown, Lucy Roehrich and Lillian Becker, both of Fargo, Elvina Schwartzenberger, Ypsilanti, Mich., and Lenora Becker, Streeter; and three brothers, Leon Zimmerman, Napoleon, Elmer Zimmerman, Bismarck, and Marvin Zimmerman, East Grand Forks. Donald Leider
Donald J. Leider, 67, 3001 E. Ave. E, died Oct. 3, 1996, at his home. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326.
Visitation will be noon-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Donald was born Jan. 21, 1929, in Howard, S.D., the son of Nick and Mary (Litterick) Leider. He was raised and educated in Howard. After graduation from St. Agatha's High School, Don served in the National Guard and was called into active duty with the U.S. Army Artillery from August 1950 until July 1952. While in the Army Don advanced to first sergeant.
After his days of service he completed his college education at Creighton University in Omaha, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in biology with minors in chemistry, philosophy and mathematics. Donald married Barbara Fenger May 17, 1956, in Omaha. They had two daughters, Teresa Ann and Judith Marie. Don was employed at Blue Star Food in Council Bluffs, Iowa, before moving to North Dakota to work for Ulmer Pharmaceutical for seven years, and then with A.H. Robbins for 17 years. Barbara died in 1978. Donald married Rose Marie Erling of Bismarck in 1982. During this time he was employed by Cap Care Insurance.
Donald was a member of American Legion of Canova, S.D. and the Knights of Columbus in Mandan. He was a lector and eucharistic minister at Spirit of Life Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie; two daughters, Teresa Stewart, Sun Valley, Idaho, and Judith Rochford, Jackson, Wyo.; four grandchildren; six stepchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara; and his sister, Marcella.
The family prefers memorials to Ruth Meiers Hospitality House, Bismarck.
Anna Roehrich
Anna Roehrich, 94, 218 N. 11th St., died Oct. 3, 1996, in Bismarck. Services will be held at noon Monday at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation is ongoing at Boelter Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Anna was born Jan. 17, 1902, in Russia, the daughter of Joseph and Eva (Fettig) Mosset. As an infant she came to the U.S. with her family and settled in Orin, where she was raised and educated. Anna married Pius Roehrich April 6, 1922. She worked for Hoskins-Meyer Floral for many years until her retirement.
She loved flowers, gardening, baking and crocheting. She was a member of St. Mary's Altar Society.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Florence and Bill Adams, Mandan, and Edith Schweitzer, Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, Floyd and Beatrice, Mandan; one sister, Josephine Roerick, Rugby; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pius, Sept. 9, 1972; and two daughters, Bernice and Virginia; four brothers; and four sisters.
Steven Fetting
Steven Wayne Fetting was born Nov. 4, 1953, to Eldred and JoAnn Fetting at Ada, Minn. His struggle with a very fast growing brain tumor ended Sept. 30, 1996. He died peacefully at his home on Camano Island, Wash., surrounded by his loving family and his dog Bo.
He attended school in Ada, West Fargo and Bismarck. He was united in marriage to Darla Semmel Nov. 25, 1977 in Bismarck. They moved to Camano Island in the state of Washington in August 1991, where he worked as a union carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Darla; two sons, Jason and Jonathan; four brothers, Rick, Glencoe, Minn., Mark and Brice, both of Bismarck, and Michael, Raleigh, N.C.; his mother, JoAnn Fetting, Bismarck; a special uncle and aunt, Ernie and Bobbie Tuengel, Everett, Wash.
Steven was preceded in death by his father, Eldred; and his grandparents, August and Evelyn Balzum, and Edwin and Katherine Fetting.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, Snohomish, Wash. (Bleitz Funeral Home, Seattle)
Elaine Just
NEW SALEM -- Elaine Just, 80, New Salem, died Oct. 3, 1996, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Monday at Salem United Church of Christ, New Salem, with burial in Peace Cemetery, New Salem.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
She is survived by two sons, Darnell, Sheridan, Wyo., and Michael, South Heart; three grandchildren; and one brother, Glenn Dettmann, Judson.
Larry Hellman
Larry Hellman, 78, 812 Skyway Park Village, died Oct. 13, 1996, in the Richardton hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of God of Prophecy, with the Rev. Barry Lee officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326.
Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Larry was born July 21, 1918, in Glen Ullin, the son of Fred and Ida (Friedt) Hellman. He was raised and attended school near Glen Ullin. On March 14, 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater during World War II. Following his honorable discharge on Oct. 14, 1945, he returned to the family farm near Glen Ullin. He married Leona Glasser. They had four children. Larry worked construction on the railroad for many years. He married Alvina Gutknecht in 1966, in Bismarck. They made their home in Bismarck. Larry and Alvina were married for 31 years.
He was a member of Eagles and VFW Post No. 1326.
He is survived by his wife, Alvina; three sons, Albert, Salem, S.D., Robert, Terry, Mont., Dale, Glendive, Mont.; one daughter, Normajean Grist, Terry; four stepsons, Larry Kruckenberg, Carson City, Mich., Gerald Kruckenberg, Eugene Kruckenberg and Marvin Kruckenberg, all of Bismarck; one stepdaughter, Janice Aho, Mandan; 27 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother; and five sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and four sisters.
Walter Pfefferkorn
STEELE -- Walter H. Pfefferkorn, 89, Golden Manor Nursing Home, Steele, died Oct. 12, 1996, in the nursing home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Steele, with the Rev. Jay Stratton officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Walter was born Oct. 12, 1907, in Fessenden, the son of Frederich Hugo ``F.H." and Wilhemina Frederica ``Minnie" (Schwartz) Pfefferkorn.
When Walter was 9, he moved with his family from Fessenden to a farm known as Hanson Place 10 miles southwest of Steele in Crown Hill Township. Walter attended school in Crown Hill and Pleasant Hill townships, riding horseback to school. He married Marian Neubauer, March 29, 1937, in Steele. They moved to a rented farm about a mile west of the Coon Ranch near Long Lake. After the first winter was over, he rented the Albert Lippert place on Crown Hill. This is where his two children, George and Barbara, were born. Then in 1942 he purchased the G.L. Sell farm four miles west and six miles south of Steele. He served on the board of supervisors for Crown Hill Township for 30 years.
Walter was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 75 years.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, George and Sharon, Visalia, Calif.; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Don Massie, Dickinson; six grandchildren, David and Mark Huhncke, Eric and Jerel Pfefferkorn, Connie Hughes and Amy Grimmer; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Jason Everding, Ashley Grimmer and Susan Huhncke; one sister, Marianna Brown, Missoula, Mont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and one brother, Freddie.
The family prefers memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church and Golden Manor Nursing Home, both of Steele, American Cancer Society of North Dakota and Diabetes Association of North Dakota.
Ida Grenz
Ida E. Grenz, 83, 2027 N. Kavaney Drive, died Oct. 13, 1996, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bismarck Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Thielenhaus officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation is ongoing at Boelter Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Ida Gohring was born June 7, 1913, in the Berlin settlement area near Fredonia, the daughter of Adam and Eva (Schweigert) Gohring. She was raised and educated in Bismarck, and moved with her parents to Napoleon. Ida married Edwen Grenz, Oct. 15, 1931, in Napoleon. They made their home east of Napoleon, where they were dairy and grain farmers. In December 1952, they moved to Bismarck, where she had a long career as 45 years as a music teacher.
She was a member of Bismarck Baptist Church, where she served as a pianist, choir member, WMS member, and in other church functions.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, The Rev. Clinton J. and Carol Grenz, Bismarck, and Kermit and Dr. Karla Grenz, Andover, Minn.; one stepsister, Maxine Dawson, Bismarck; one stepbrother, Milton Gohring, Bismarck; one sister-in-law, Ann Gohring, Yuma, Ariz.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwen, in June 1979; her parents; one brother, Henry Gohring; and one step-brother, Cletus Gohring.
The family prefers memorials to Bismarck Baptist Church.
Clayton Werner
Clayton James Werner, 54, Phoenix, formerly of Bismarck, died Oct. 11, 1996, in Valley City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held one hour before services at the funeral home.
Clayton was born Dec. 31, 1941, in McClusky, to Marvin and Frances (Murray) Werner. He grew up in the McClusky area. On Feb. 14, 1964, he married Karen Brown in Bismarck. They had one daughter, Tana. Clayton worked as an ironworker for over 30 years, and was a member of Ironworkers Local No. 793. He especially enjoyed the time he spent working in Antarctica in 1988. Clayton and Karen moved from Bismarck to Shoreview, Minn. in 1986, and to Phoenix in 1989. He lived in Phoenix at the time of his death. Each spring Clayton would return to North Dakota to work for the summer months.
Clayton was an avid sprint car racing fan. He enjoyed attending racing events and working on cars. He took great pride in caring for his cars. He was a member of Moose and Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; one daughter and son-in-law, Tana and Douglas Erbes, Breckenridge, Minn.; one granddaughter, Emmy, Breckenridge; his mother, Frances Dosch, Bismarck; and two sisters, Shirley and Neil Pedersen, Albany, Ore., and Diane and Bob Klein, Mandan.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin; and one nephew, Gary Klein.

STREETER -- Berthold Sackman, 78, Piedmont, S.D., formerly of Streeter, died Oct. 14, 1996. Services will be held Thursday at First Congregational United church of Christ, Rapid City, S.D.
Albert Bentz
DICKINSON -- Albert P. Bentz, 81, Dickinson, died Oct. 12, 1996, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. MDT Tuesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with burial in St. John Cemetery, Richardton.

NEW ROCKFORD -- James H. Johnson, 73, New Rockford, died Oct. 12, 1996, at his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at New Rockford school gym, with burial in Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; two daughters, Ruth Dellos, Worland, Wyo., and Sandi Lies, New Rockford; six sons, Jim, Bremen, Ray, Carrington, Dan, Gwinner, Kevin and Kim, both of New Rockford, Craig, Valley City; and two brothers, Roger, Wenatchee, Wash., and Andy, Kirkland, Wash. Violet Senger
Violet F. Senger, 93, Bismarck Baptist Home, died Oct. 14, 1996, in the nursing home. Private family memorial services will be at a later date, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Violet was born March 25, 1903, in Kansas, Ill. She was raised there, and moved to North Dakota, where she graduated from Granville High School in 1920. Violet married Wendell W. Senger, Nov. 26, 1924, at Towner. They owned and operated variety stores in Granville and Rugby until their retirement.
She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, John W. and Doris, Menlo Park, Calif., Bob and Lucille, Bismarck, and Jacquelin Senger, Bismarck; six granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son; her parents; three brothers; and one sister. (Boelter Funeral Home)
Ann Jorgenson
WATFORD CITY -- Ann Jorgenson, 77, Watford City, died Oct. 12, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Watford City, with the Rev. James Gustafson officiating. Burial will be in Johnson Corners Cemetery, east of Watford City.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. today and 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Ann was born May 10, 1919, in Killdeer, the daughter of Louis and Kathryn (Bell) Signalness. She was raised on the Bar U Ranch in Dunn County, 32 miles southeast of Watford City. She attended rural and Watford City schools, later graduating from Watford City High School. She attended Dickinson State Teacher's College, where she received her teaching certificate. Ann taught rural schools in McKenzie County for several years.
She married Purley Van Dyke. To this union four children were born. On Aug. 28, 1952, Ann was united in marriage to Einar Jorgenson in Watford City. To this union one child was born. Ann continued to ranch and teach rural schools in the area. They moved in 1989 to Watford City, where she has resided since.
Ann was a member of 50 years in the Saddle Club, First Lutheran Church, North Dakota Cattlewomen and the Rebeccah Lodge. She was a past president of District 1 CattleWomen and had served on many state Cattlewomen committees.
She enjoyed her friends and family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, ranch animals, especially registered Appaloosa horses, which she raised. She later worked with quarter horses.
She is survived by her husband, Einar; one daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Alvin, rural Grassy Butte; four sons and daughters-in-law, Walton and Andrea Van Dyke, Watford City, James and Karen Van Dyke, Edina, Minn., Victor and Bobbi Van Dyke, Prescott, Ariz., and Bill and Pam Jorgenson, Watford City; nine grandchildren, Louis Nelson and his wife Allene, Idene Van Dyke, Jay Van Dyke, Jesse Van Dyke, Kelly Van Dyke, Jennifer Van Dyke, Jackie Van Dyke, Leah Van Dyke and Samantha Jo Jorgenson; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla Van Dyke and Estephanie Zermeno.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary; and one infant brother.
