HALLIDAY -- Thomas Cook, 81, Halliday, died Oct. 13, 1997, at home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at Normanna Lutheran Church, Dunn Center. Burial will be in Werner Cemetery, Halliday.

He is survived by his wife, Elle; one son Russell, Halliday; one daughter, Donna Cook, Halliday; one brother, Cecil, Halliday; and one sister, Willa Lunceford, Smelterville, Idaho. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Herbert McAdoo
HALLIDAY -- Herbert McAdoo, 64, Halliday, died Oct. 13, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Thursday, at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Halliday.

He is survived by one son, James, Sterling, Colo.; one daughter, Debbie, Monroe, Wash.; one brother, Howard, Bermuda Islands; and four sisters, Norma Sullivan, Ellen Sansaver, and Violet Woodbury, all of Marysville, Wash., and Susie Thomas, Salem, Ore.

Viola McCormick
MENOKEN-- Viola E. McCormick, 66, rural Menoken, died Oct. 12, 1997, at her home. Services will be at noon Friday, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck, with the Revs. John Owens and John Kuhn officiating. Burial will be in the Menoken Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, both at Eastgate Funeral Chapel, Bismarck. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Viola McCormick was born March 26, 1931, in Grant County, daughter of August and Elizabeth (Schroeder) Sprecher. She graduated from Glen Ullin High School in 1949, and attended nursing school at St. Alexius Hopsital School of Nursing. She married Kenneth McCormick on Nov. 17, 1951. They farmed north of McKenzie and Menoken until her death. Viola enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and taking care of her family and half frozen calves.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy McCormick and Dan Dwyer, Snohomish, Wash., and Jackie and Del Mann, Auburn, Wash.; two sons, John Paul, Fort Bragg, Calif., and Tom, Menoken; 8 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family prefers memorials to the American Diabetes Association. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck)

Gottlieb Sackmann
ASHLEY -- Gottlieb Sackmann, 76, Ashley, died Oct. 12, 1997, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ashley. Burial will be in Ashley City Cemetery with military rites by Frank Piper American Legion Post. No. 53.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Clair John and Marlowe James, both of Burnsvillen, Minn., and Robert Jayson, Coon Rapids, Minn.; one brother, Ervin, Aberdeen, S.D.; and five sisters, Marie Maier, Loretta Kramer, Edna Rothfusz and Inez Salzer, all of Ashley, and Esther Hochhalter, Worthington, Minn. Hilda Pippin
WILLISTON -- Hilda Pippin, 65, Williston, died Oct. 14, 1997, in a Williston hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at First Lutheran Church, Williston. Burial will be in Riverview Cemeter, Williston. Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

Frances Beier
BEACH -- Frances Louise Beier, 86, Beach, died Oct. 28, 1997, in Bismarck. Services will be 2 p.m. MST Saturday at United Community Church, Beach. Burial will be at a later date.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur; one daughter, Patricia Bibelheimer of Nevada City, Calif.; one sister, Floy McMillan of Grafton; and one brother, Raymond Stough of New York. (Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach)

Duane Bender
HARVEY -- Duane D. Bender, 47, Harvey, died Oct. 30, 1997, at his home. Further arrangements are pending with Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Margaret Bisbee
WILLISTON -- Margaret Bisbee, 83, Williston, died Oct. 30, 1997, in a Williston hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, Williston.

Further arrangements are pending with Everson Funeral Home, Williston.

LaDora Dalbol
LaDora Dalbol, 92, Moorhead, Minn., formerly of Tuttle, died Oct. 29, 1997, in a Moorhead nursing home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle, with the Rev. John Norby officiating. Burial will be in Tuttle Cemetery.

Visitation wil be from 2-9 p.m. Sunday and 9-11 a.m. Monday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel, and for one hour prior to services at the church.

LaDora Jacobs was born Oct. 6, 1905, in Adam County, Iowa, the daughter of the Rev. T.K. and Gertine (Lavik) Jacobs. She moved to Tuttle with her family in 1910, where she was raised and educated. After graduating high school, she attended Ellendale Normal School and then Valley City State Teacher's College, where she earned her teaching certificate.

On Dec. 24, 1927, she married Sigurd Dalbol in Tuttle. Following their marriage, they farmed northeast of Tuttle, and LaDora taught for several years in rural Kidder County schools. They retired and moved into Tuttle in 1962.

She was active in the North Kidder County Homemakers Club and loved singing, gardening, cooking, baking and crocheting.

They enjoyed traveling after their retirement, and they had the opportunity to see many areas of the United States. Mr. Dalbol died in 1982, and LaDora was still able to travel, enjoying a special visit to Scandinavia.

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Luella and Wally Rawson of Detroit Lakes, Elsie and Jim DeKrey of Colton S.D., Ruby and Gaylord Nelson of West Chester, Ohio, and Edna and Dave Baker of Culver City, Calif.; six sons and daughters-in-law, Nels Dalbol and Phyllis Germundson, Gordon and Arlene Dalbol, Robert and Ava Dalbol, all of Moorhead, Minn., Harold and Carleen Dalbol of Hazen, Edward and Sharon Dalbol of Floriston, Calif., and John and Linda of Mapleton; 34 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Constance Christenen; one brother, Carl Jacobs; and her husband, Sigurd. (Eastgate Funeral Service, Steele)

James Flohr
DICKINSON -- James Flohr, 68, Dickinson, died Oct. 30, 1997, at his home.

Further arrangements are pending with Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson.

Mae Helgeson
DICKINSON -- Mae Marie Helgeson, 66, Dickinson, died Oct. 27, 1997, in a Dickinson hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. MST Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson.

She is survived by one daughter, Ellen Beazley of Algona, Wash.; six sisters, Marjorie Jacobson of Springfield, Ore., Janice Wojick of Cottage Grove, Ore., Jean Thompson of Fargo, Lucille William of Kerens, Texas, Vivian Trittinger of Fargo, and Leila Tucker of Powell, Wyo.; and five brothers, Albert L., Ronald and Marvin D. Smith, all of Dickinson, and Daniel and James D., both of Grand Forks. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)

Harry Holz
Harry A. Holz, Bismarck, died Oct. 27, 1997, in Strasburg. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Boelter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military rites by Veteran of Foreign Wars Gilbert N. Nelson Post No. 1326.

Harry Alfred Holz was born July 20, 1921, in Hamburg, Germany, the oldest son of Alfred and Elsa Holz. He had two brothers and two sisters.

In 1939, he arrived in the United States at the age of 18. In 1944, he met and married Amelia "Millie" Mosset, one of 12 children born to Katherine Glass and Anton Mosset, who farmed outside of Linton. Harry and Millie had two daughters, Shirley and Peggy Ann.

In October of 1945, Harry was sworn into the United States Army. In 1971, Master Sergeant (E-8) Harry A. Holz, after a distinguished 27-year career in the U.S. Regular Army, retired with honors.

The U.S. Army acknowledged his commitment to his adopted country by bestowing on him two Army commendations and the highly revered Commendation for Distinguished Enlisted Service.

Harry remained very active in a volunteer capacity with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His service was acknowledged in 1975, when the VFW elected him their Post Commander.

In 1976, they bestowed on him the coveted position and title "Grand Seam Squirrel."

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Stephen Kukta of Orange County, Calif., and Peggy Ann and Art Grabow of Seattle; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. (Boelter Funeral Home, Bismarck)

Donald Kastner
GLEN ULLIN -- Donald Kastner, 65, Glen Ullin, died Oct. 30, 1997, at his home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. MST Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Claude Seeberger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the church, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. MST.

Special music will be provided by The Tibor Brothers and The Schaper Family, accompanied by Colleen Siroshton.

Casketbearers will be Marlyn Staiger, Jim Erhardt, Jerome Hoerner, John Reinhardt, Roger Heinle, and Myron Compton. Honorary bearers are all the Kastner cousins.

Donald was born on Oct. 31, 1931, to Joe F. and Katherine (Koch) Kastner. He was baptized Nov. 7, 1931. He was raised and educated in rural Glen Ullin. He worked on the family farm.

In the mid 1950s he played with the Tibor Brothers Band for barn dances and on the radio.

He married Clara Hoerner on Nov. 18, 1958, at Glen Ullin. Following their marriage, he bought his own ranch, which he operated until his death.

Clara died July 21, 1992. Donald married Connie Mittlestadt Reinhardt on Sept. 5, 1997, at Bismarck.

He was a member of Eagles, election board, and past president of Glen Ullin Saddle Club.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; one stepson, John Reinhardt of Mandan; one stepdaughter and her husband, Colleen and Kevin Siroshton of Bismarck; one godchild, Carmen Erhardt of Scranton; his mother, Katherine Kastner of Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Dorothy of Bismarck; one brother-in-law, Ted Malinowski of Chicago; two nephews, Kevin and Alan Malinowsky of Chicago; and grandpa's special little girl, Macee Ellen Siroshton.

He was preceded in death by his father; his first wife, Clara; and his sister, Jean. (Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron)

Ruth Kroshus
Ruth H. Kroshus, 68, 635 S. 14th St., Bismarck, died Oct. 29, 1997, at her home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Saturday and 1-8 p.m. Sunday, both at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and for one hour prior to services at the church.

Ruth was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Williston to Harold and Bertina (Slyngstad) Halvorson. She was baptized and confirmed at Lutheran Free Church, Alamo.

She lived in Big Stone Township and graduated from Alamo High School in 1947. She worked in Minneapolis for a year and returned to Alamo.

She married Dale Kroshus on Jan. 14, 1950, in Williston. Ruth worked in the store and post office in Alamo for several years, while Dale was working construction.

On May 23, 1954, Ronald and Russell, twin sons, were born and motherhood became her life. They moved to Bismarck in February 1967.

Besides her busy life being a homemaker, she worked in the admissions office of St. Alexius Hospital.

In the following years, Ruth traveled with Dale while he was employed in the construction business, including traveling to Costa Rica. They retired in 1985, and have enjoyed spending several winters in Arizona.

Ruth and Dale spent many special times fishing and enjoying their friends and life together.

Ruth enjoyed bowling, and working in her yard with her flowers and garden. She was known for her many friends, ready wit, and friendly smile. Ruth's children, brothers and sisters were special to her, and her grandchildren, Ian and Cole, were the joy of her life.

She is survived by her husband, Dale; twin sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Linda of Billings, Mont., and Russell and Vanessa of Bismarck; two grandchildren, Ian and Cole of Bismarck; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Dagney Westin of Williston, Helena and Ray Rings of Alamo, and Harriet Halvorson of Minneapolis; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Lucy Halvorson of Alamo, and Ed and Helen Halvorson of Spokane, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Clifford, Trygvy and Leonard.

Fred Mann
Fred Mann, 80, Carson, died Oct. 28, 1997, in the Glen Ullin nursing home.

Services will be 1 p.m. MST Saturday at Hertz Brothers Funeral Home, New Leipzig. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Carson.

He is survived by two sisters, Sarah Zieske of Billings, Mont., and Katherine Hochhalter of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho.

Howard Olson
Howard E. Olson, 73, Mobridge, S.D., died Oct. 24, 1997, near Mobridge.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mobridge. Burial will be in Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; three sons, Dave of Mitchell, S.D., Mark of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Ron of Sheridan, Wyo.; three daughters, Claudia Dietrich of Mandan, Debra McCormick of Waupaca, Wis., and Colette Domschine of Stratford, Conn.; and two brothers, Clair of Livingston, Mont., and Pat of Billings, Mont.
