Jeremy Thiel
Jeremy Thiel, 26, Cody, Wyo., formerly of Issaquah, Wash., died Jan. 18, 1998, while snowmobiling near Cooke City, Mont. Services will be 2 p.m. MST Friday at Ballard Funeral Home, Cody, with the Rev. Larry Vinson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Cody.
Visitation will from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
Jeremy was born Oct. 27, 1971, in Turtle Lake, N.D., the son of Jerry L. and Margo E. (Spidahl) Thiel. He graduated from Issaquah High School, Issaquah, Wash. in 1990. He married Lee-Anne V. Pierce, April 6, 1996, in Maple Valley, Wash.
Jeremy came from Seattle to the Cody area 2[1/2] years ago. At the time of his death, he was employed by his father in the housing construction industry.
Jeremy loved the outdoors. Snowboarding, snowmobiling and four-wheeling were some of his favorite activities, especially with his brother, Kip Thiel, and his cousin, Brian Alexander. He enjoyed hunting with his father, brother and brother-in-law, Robert Payton.
Jeremy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Jeremy's children were 9-year-old Blake Thiel and 19-month-old Jerri Thiel. The family moved from Seattle so their children would have a good, stable, family-oriented city to grow up in.
Jeremy was definitely a family man and was as close as anyone could be to his family. We will all miss him more than can be expressed.
He is survived by his wife, Lee-Anne; two children, Blake L. and Jerri L. Thiel; his parents, Jerry L. and Margo E. Thiel, Cody; one brother, Kip Thiel, Cody; one sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Robert Payton, Cody; and his grandparents, Laurence and Lois Thiel, Cody, and Bennie and Lois Spidahl, West Fargo.

Elizabeth Hulett
Elizabeth Rasch Hulett, 88, San Diego, died Jan. 3, 1998, in San Diego. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.
Elizabeth was born June 9, 1909, in rural New Salem, N.D., the daughter of Frank and Alvina Rasch. In 1941, she married Lester Hulett in Bismarck, N.D. They managed Hulett's Grocery for 15 years, moving to Phoenix in 1956 and to the San Diego area in 1962.
She is survived by one daughter, Helen Burk; their grandson and wife, Bill and Jill Burk; two sisters, Lilly Brumfield and Lucile Mahoney; one nephew and wife, Bob and Bernice Braun; and two nieces, Jewell Herren and Jeanine Taylor.

William Heitmann

Elsie Doll
Elsie Doll, 75, Billings, Mont., died Dec. 30, 1997, at her son's home. Services were held at St. Bernard's Parish.
Elsie was born Sept. 12, 1922, in Glen Ullin, N.D., to Jacob and Margaret (Nagel) Wetzel. She was born and raised on the family farm. In 1950, she married Jack Doll and made her home in Billings.
Elsie had many hobbies and especially enjoyed fishing trips with her family, canning, gardening and playing cards.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Donna Neuheardt; three grandchildren and their spouses, Rodney and Kathleen Neuheardt, Kelli and Berry Roberts and Scott and Stephanie Neuheardt; seven great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Minnie, Alma, Elenor, Lentina and Christina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents; four brothers; and one sister.
Memorials are preferred to charity of donor's choice.
Clementine White
Clementine Leingang White, 81, Federal Way, Wash., formerly of St. Anthony, died Jan. 9, 1998 in Federal Way. Private services have been held.
She is survived by three daughters and their families; and many cousins in the surrounding area.
Melitta Pfennig
Melitta Pfennig, 83, Reno, Nev., died Jan. 17, 1998, in a Reno hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, with burial at 3 p.m. Saturday in Regan Cemetery.
She is survived by two sons, Ivan and Eugene, both of Reno; one brother, Richard Hoffmann, Butte, Mont.; and one sister, Alvina Sinerus, Helena, Mont.
Merritt Flynn

Mable Vance

Catherine Welder
NAPOLEON -- Catherine Welder, 76, Napoleon, died Jan. 20, 1998, in a Bismarck nursing home, where she had been a resident since 1994. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, with the Rev. James Lauerman officiating. Deacons Joe Mathern and Howard Hunkler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William Welder, Jeffery Welder, Daniel Eckman, Daniel Welder, Michael McMullen and Jody Horner. Honorary pallbearers will be Willie P. Piatz, Walter Retzlaff, Victor Wald, George Doll, Alfred Schumacher, Eddie Braun, Louis Wald and Ruben Lang.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon. A rosary will be said at 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Catherine was born Feb. 14, 1921, on the family farm south of Napoleon, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Wald) Mathern. She grew up on the family farm and received her elementary education in rural Shell Butte School. Catherine continued to live at home until her marriage to Mike Welder, Jan. 5, 1943, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. They returned to the Welder homestead where they lived and farmed for several years before moving to Burnstad. In 1950 they purchased a farm nine miles north of Napoleon where they lived and farmed until retiring to Napoleon in 1977. In 1993, Catherine moved to Bismarck and lived at the Chateau and the Kensington Homes before moving into the Baptist Home in October 1994.
Catherine enjoyed sewing and began quilting after she retired. She made many beautiful quilts until Alzheimer's took its toll on her. She enjoyed listening to her husband play the harmonica and loved to sing and dance. She was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers Altar Society, where she served as the head of the funeral committee for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Mike; three sons and daughters-in-law, Anton and Katherine, Lodi, Calif., Joseph and Kathleen, West Fargo, and Michael and Peggy, Napoleon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Josephine and Marvin Eckman, Bismarck, and Shirley and Pat McMullen, Fargo; 10 grandchildren, Bill Welder, Jeff Welder, Jacqueline, Jennifer and Daniel Eckman, Dawn Horner, Susie and Daniel Welder, and Mike and Maggie McMullen; and one great-grandchild, Whitney Welder; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; eight sisters and four brothers-in-law, Maggie Vetter, Dorothy and Wes Hoopman, Elizabeth Wald, Bernadette and Leo Vetter, and Joseph and Elaine Mathern, all of Bismarck, Mary Eva Aberle, Edgeley, Mary Hembre, Galt, Calif., Rose and Joe Aberle, Linton, and Theresa and Tony Lacher, Williston; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Elaine, Bismarck, and Blaise and Josephine, Minot.
She was preceded in death by one grandchild; her parents; three brothers; and one sister.
Gertrude Boggess
Gertrude (Heidrich) Boggess, 75, Bismarck, died Jan. 21, 1998, in her home. Services will be held at noon Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Charlie Heidt officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Bismarck Funeral Home, where a prayer service and rosary will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.
Gertrude Heidrich was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Emmons County, the daughter of Reinhold and Barbara (Dirk) Heidrich. She attended and graduated from St. Alexius School of Practical Nursing. She worked at St. Alexius Hospital until she moved to San Antonio, Texas, in 1962. It was there that she married Don Boggess in 1964. Don died in 1970. Gertrude worked at Santa Rose Hospital until her retirement in 1988, when she moved back to Bismarck.
Gertrude loved to crochet and listen to music.
She is survived by four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Jack and Cathryn, Fargo, Pius and Diane, Bismarck, John and Marlys, Mandan, and William, Bismarck; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary and Nick Roehrich, Bismarck, Josephine Roehrich and Rose Heidrich, both of Bismarck; many nieces and nephews; and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Anton; and one infant brother.

Hazel Madsen
DICKINSON -- Hazel P. Madsen, 102, Dickinson, died Jan. 20, 1998, in a Dickinson nusring home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. MST Friday at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, with burial Woodlawn Cemetery, Steele.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Hazel Pool was born Nov. 9, 1895, in Echo, Minn., to Edwin and Ida (Intermill) Pool. The family moved to Steele when she was in the fourth grade. She graduated from Steele High School and attended Valley City State Teachers College and University of North Dakota. She received a bachelor's degree in music from McPhail's School of Music in Minneapolis. She taught music in public schools for eight years in Great Falls, Mont., then returned to North Dakota, where she taught in Steele, New Salem and New England. She taught six years at Christ the King in Mandan. Upon her retirement she substituted many times and lived in Bismarck. Hazel married Harold F. Madsen. He died in 1966. She entered St. Benedict's Health Center in 1996.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lois, Seattle, and Jack and Louise, Dunkenville, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Lou Ann and Wilfred Schatz, New England; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Norma Madsen, Denver.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Edwin; one brother and one sister.
Hildur Bitner
Hildur Bitner, 87, 817 N. 26th St., died Jan. 20, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Joel Sherer officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riverview Cemetery, Wilton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Hildur Stenquist was born June 25, 1910, at the family home near Wilton, the daughter of Axel and Emma (Anderson) Stenquist. She graduated from Wilton High School in 1929. On Dec. 14, 1931, she married William Bitner in Bismarck. They homesteaded near Wilton before moving to Wilton in 1938. In 1951 they moved to Riverdale where William worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the construction of Garrison Dam. She taught Sunday school and Bible school at Riverdale, Painted Woods and Wilton. They retired in 1970 and moved to Bismarck. Mr. Bitner died Dec. 14, 1988.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Irma, Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Edna and Gailen Narum, Minot, and Jan and Dick Berger, Bismarck; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Albert Hartl, Burke, Va.; 11 grandchildren, Mark and Birgit Bitner, Perth, Australia, Robyn and Doug Wonnenberg, and Brian and Lori Bitner, all of Bismarck, Craig and Julie Bitner, Mandan, Keith and Renae Bitner, Devils Lake, Sarah and Tom Ames, Fairfield, Ohio, Scott and Kathy Narum, Cheyenne, Wyo., Richard Narum, Jamestown, Julie and Cory Harmon, Billings, Mont., and Theresa and Darren Berger, Bismarck; and nine great-grandchildren, Daniel and Jonathan Bitner, Perth, John, Michael, Connie and Mark Wonnenberg, and Brandon and Larissa Bitner, all of Bismarck, and Nicole Narum, Cheyenne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Edith Barry, Astrid Johnson and Edna Brostrom; one stepbrother, Einar Nordstrom; and one granddaughter, Sherrie Narum.
