Abner Haro
GACKLE -- Abner Haro, 88, Gackle, died May 19, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Emmanual Lutheran Church, Gackle, with the Rev. David Winterfeldt officiating. Burial will be in Old Apostolic Cemetery, south of Gackle.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Haut Funeral Home, Gackle.
Abner was born Feb. 12, 1909, on the family farm 13 miles southwest of Gackle. He was the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Sippanen) Haro. He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education and grew to manhood. He and Edna Ollila were married June 17, 1929, in Napoleon. They made their home on the farm where he farmed from 1926 until 1959. Then he sold the farm and moved to Minneapolis where he did construction work. In 1960 he moved back to Gackle where he worked for Remboldt Implement. He later worked constructing the addition of the Remboldt Locker Plant. He also drove school bus from 1960 until 1968. Then he started his own welding shop in Gackle, he continued to do shop work part time until 1997.
He was a member of Old Apostolic Church, south of Gackle. He served as president of the school board in the Nathan School District. When he wasn't busy he enjoyed travel and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Edna; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Evelyn and Walter Johnson, Aurora, Minn., Nina Haro, Gackle, and Ruth and James Doll, Glen Ullin; three grandchildren, Justin Anderson, Sacramento, Calif., Jessica and Jacqualynn Doll, Glen Ullin; and one sister, Ann Wuollet, Vista, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; and three sisters.
Fred Koesel Sr.
HEBRON -- Fred G. Koesel Sr., 94, Lee's Summit, Mo., died May 21, 1997, in Lee's Summit. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Richardton, with burial in Dickinson Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Friday at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Fred was born Jan. 9, 1903, at Dickinson, the son of August and Lottie (Hettenbaugh) Koesel. He attended grade school in Pasadena, Calif., Mott, Hebron and Richardton. He graduated from Taylor High School. He taught country school four miles north of Richardton for two years. From 1925-1928 he worked for his father at the Chevy garage. In 1928 he went into partnership and started Richardton Motor Sales, Chevy agency. He married Margaret Gabe, Oct. 31, 1934, at St. John's in Richardton. In 1955 he sold his interest in the agency and owned and operated Koesel's Store until 1972. Following retirement he remained in Richardton until the fall of 1996, where he entered a nursing home close to his son. Margaret died Oct. 19, 1995.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Richardton.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Judy (Bovee) Koesel, Lee's Summit; two granddaughters, Kristen and Karrie Koesel; one sister, Marjorie Beyer, Dickinson; and one sister-in-law, Faye Gabe, Richardton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Eleanor; and his wife, Margaret.
Agnes Presthus
Agnes Presthus, 90, 2106 N. Kavaney Drive, died May 17, 1997, in Butler, Pa. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Agnes was born April 11, 1907, the daughter of Ole and Clara (Bruun) Dahlen. She attended schools in Crookston, Minn., and worked as a secretary after graduation. She married Arnold Presthus, Oct. 25, 1930, in Crookston. They lived in Grand Forks and Minot before moving to Bismarck in 1942.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and was an active volunteer for Medcenter One.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Jack Muzzana, Butler; one sister, LouAnn Ericson, Crookston; one brother, Les Dahlen, Minot; two grandchildren, Mark Muzzana, Butler, and Marcia Ellermeyer, Helena, Mont.; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, in 1991; one sister; and one brother.
Ray Meyer
DICKINSON -- Ray Meyer, 74, Dickinson, died May 20, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean; three daughters, Kathleen Obritsch and Deborah Kantrud, both of Dickinson, and Susan Hartford, Newcastle, Wash.; two sons, Joseph, Williston, Robert, Cavalier; three brothers, Fred and Richard, both of Dickinson, and Paul, Gladstone; and six sisters, Delores Schmidt, Dickinson, Sister Johnita Meyer, St. Joseph, Minn., Barbara Boehm, Carmichael, Calif., Eleanore Frederick, Oakton, Va., Lucille Heenan, Kansas City, Mo., and Rose St. Peter, Bismarck. Alpha Dumire
Alpha Margaret Dumire, 83, Bismarck, died May 19, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. today at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck, and will continue from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Chapel. Visitation will also be held at the church one hour before services.
Alpha was born Jan. 3, 1914, in Bismarck, the daughter of Anton and Sophie Nelson. She was raised in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School. She then worked as assistant city auditor for several years, and later as a bookkeeper for various oil companies, contractors and retail stores in the Bismarck area.
Alpha was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church. With her husband, Dumie, she was youth high adviser for a number of years.
Alpha is survived by her husband, Milford; one son, Tony, Aspen, Colo.; one sister, Solweig, Seattle; four nieces, Sharon and Boni, Bismarck, Ginger, Fargo, and Linda, Riverside, Calif.; and two nephews, James, Portland, Ore., and Donald, Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one sister.
A special, very heartfelt thank you is extended to all of Alpha's physicians and caregivers over the last few years. Your love and caring is greatly appreciated by her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Ronald McDonald House or Sleepy Hollow Summer Theater, both of Bismarck.

John Shimeck
John Shimeck, 97, Minneapolis, formerly of Mandan, died May 21, 1997, in the Mahnomen, Minn., nursing home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with burial in St. Johns Cemetery, rural Mandan.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
John is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Velda G. Meredith, 77, 9001 Sibley Drive, died May 20, 1997, in her home. Private family services will be held.
She was the eldest daughter of Glenn and Ida (Gillis) Van Allen, born Dec. 29, 1919, in Phillips County, Kansas. She was raised and educated in Phillips County.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Glennis and Elden Spier, Bismarck; one granddaughter, Meredith Spier, Kailua, Hawaii; one grandson and his wife, Russ and Elizabeth Spier, Eden Prairie, Minn.; two great-grandsons, Morgan and Griffin Spier, Eden Prairie; three sisters, Dorlene Moehon, Pleasant Hill, Calif., Betty Ham, Wellington, Kan., and Reva Dickson, Midland, Texas; one brother, Mike Van Allen, Thibadoux, La.; two uncles and one aunt, Evert and Ruth Quanz, Phillipsburge, Kan., and Wayne Shields, Glade, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews.

Vivian Wicklund
Vivian G. Wicklund, 87, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, formerly of 2023 N. Kavaney Drive, died May 21, 1997, in the nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Boelter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Lee officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Vivian was born Jan. 15, 1910, at Ellendale, the daughter of Fred S. and Emma (Peschle) Graham. She was raised and educated at Ellendale. She then moved to Valley City. She married Charles S. Root of Valley City. He died in 1951. She worked for J.C. Penney, and then for Dr. F. Wicks. She married Leonard Wicklund, July 1, 1952, in Fargo. They moved to Center in 1952, and to Bismarck in 1983. They spent their summers selling for the Minnesota Woolen Co. for more than 20 years.
She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Center Band Sponsors Club, and Burleigh County Senior Center.
She is survived by one stepson, John Wicklund, Center; one grandson, John R. Jr., and his wife, Sally, Eagan, Minn.; one great-grandson, Daniel Wicklund; and one great-granddaughter, Ashley Wicklund.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her parents; one brother, Spencer; and two sisters, Gladys and Jenny.
