Joseph LaVallie
WILLISTON -- Joseph LaVallie, 92, Williston, died Feb. 6, 1997, in the nursing home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. John's Catholic Church, Trenton, with burial in Trenton Cemetery.
He is survived by two brothers, Simon, Absarokee, Mont., and Edward, Columbus, Ga.; and two sisters, Mary Martell, Riverside, Calif., and Lillian Forsman, Glendive, Mont. (Everson Funeral Home, Williston)
Darwin Wolf
Darwin L. Wolf, 61, Bismarck, died Feb. 5, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital after a long illness. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, with the Rev. Willis Potratz officiating.
Darwin was born April 29, 1935, in McIntosh County, the son of Gottlieb F. and Bertha (Mueller) Wolf. On Oct. 12, 1957, he married Darlene "Gladys" Chock, in Lehr. He was well-known for his work in the implement and livestock industries in the state of North Dakota.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and Rick Fuehrer, Dickinson, and Claudia and Mike Urlaub, Gillette, Wyo.; one son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Lisa Wolf, Fargo; one sister and brother-in-law, LuElla and Ed Milligan, Dilworth, Minn.; two stepsisters, Darlene Ulmer, Granite Falls, Minn., and Shirlee Ulmer, Plover, Wis.; one stepbrother, Don Ulmer, St. Paul, Minn.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather.
Memorials are preferred to St. Alexius Hospice or Ruth Meiers Hospitality House.
Leonard Narum
MINOT -- Leonard O. Narum, 77, Minot, died March 11, 1997, in a Minot hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Benedict, with burial in Bethania Lutheran Cemetery, Benedict.
He is survived by two daughters, Karen Yesenko, Ruso, and Joy Westrum, Washburn; two sons, Arley and Lorrie, both of Minot; three sisters, Alice Jaeger, Mable McConn and Cora Erlien, all of Minot; and one brother, Karl, Douglas. (Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot)
Jack Murphy
KILLDEER -- J.R. ``Jack" Murphy, 84, Killdeer, died March 11, 1997, in the Killdeer nursing home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Killdeer, with the Rev. Jerry Ruelle officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, rural Killdeer.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, and will continue from 2:30 to 3 p.m. today at Hilltop Home of Comfort, Killdeer. Visitation will continue at the church after 4 p.m. today, where a prayer service will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will also be held one hour before services.
John Redmond Murphy was born May 17, 1912, to Redmond and Elizabeth (O'Neil) Murphy. He attended school at Oakdale No. 1, Fargo Shanley and Killdeer High School. He attended St. John's University in Minnesota, before returning to the cattle ranching partnership in the Killdeer Mountains. Jack lived his entire life on the family ranch located in the Killdeer Mountains except for a few years during World War II. At that time he was head brand inspector for five states at Sioux City, Iowa. It was there, Jack met his wife, Dorothy, whom he referred to as ``the most beautiful woman he ever knew." After the war, Jack returned to his bride and to the ranching partnership with his brother, Hugh. Jack was a cattleman. He also served 20 years on the North Dakota Legislature, representing District 36.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, North Dakota Stockmen's Association, 50 Years in the Saddle, Knights of Columbus and the Little Knife Royalty Owners.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Patti and Butch Goodall, Killdeer, Joan and Clarence Braun, Seattle, Leone and Lynn Linseth, Killdeer, Shirley and Dean Meyer, Watford City, Rose and Bob Hansen, Dickinson, Donna and Ed Trotter, Vernal, Utah, and Colleen and Dean Voight, Zap; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Naomi, Killdeer; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernie and Adeline, Olympia, Wash., and Pat and Inez, Mandaree; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Mary Moe Curtis; one son, Red; three brothers; and five sisters. (Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson)
Darlene Lofgren
Darlene J. Lofgren, 49, formerly of Bismarck, died March 8, 1997, in a Los Angeles hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by a rosary, both at the funeral home.
Darlene J. Baumgartner was born May 14, 1947, in Strasburg, the daughter of Jake and Aggie (Dosch) Baumgartner. The family lived in Strasburg until moving to Bismarck in 1959. She attended Strasburg and Bismarck schools. Darlene moved to Fargo in 1972. She married Ron Lofgren, Feb. 2, 1974, in Hawley, Minn. She worked as a waitress for 34 years. Darlene moved to Arizona in 1990, and later to California. Darlene enjoyed working with people and spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved country music, dancing and swimming.
She is survived by one daughter, Tonia Lofgren, Chandler, Ariz.; two sons, Scott, Moorhead, Minn., and Jayson, Pensicola, Fla.; two grandchildren, Brandon and Ryan; her parents, Jake and Aggie Baumgartner, Bismarck; her twin sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Ralph Everhart; her sister and brother-in-law, Patty and Bob Schmidt, Bismarck; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Terry, Lakewood, Colo., and Bob and Evelyn, Linton; three nieces and six nephews, Mike, Mark and Mitch Baumgartner, Richard Roehrich, Lynn LaFleur, Jennie and Brock Baumgartner, Crystal and Chris Schmidt.
