Meryl Ennen
Meryl W. Ennen, 90, St. Vincent's Care Center, died Nov. 20, 1996, in the nursing home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with the Rev. Jim Cissel officiating. Burial will be in Menoken Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Meryl was born Dec. 22, 1905, in Donnelly, Minn., the son of Claus and Edna (Turner) Ennen. He was raised and educated in Emmons County. Meryl married Helen Baker in Linton in 1933. In 1934, they rented a farm from their very good friends, Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Niles, who went on to Oregon. Meryl and Helen took over the Glen Baker farm southeast of Menoken in 1938, which is still in the family. Meryl continued his farming interests until poor health forced his retirement. Meryl served on the Boyd Township Board for 36 years.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley and Avalyn, Menoken, and Lyle and Elizabeth, Menoken; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Garland and Louise, Rapid City, S.D., and Lucille Ennen, Bismarck; one sister, Hannah Baeth, Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry; one sister, Alice Jensen; and two brothers, Pete and LaDelle.
Edward Allmendinger
Edward Fredrick Allmendinger, 84, 507 S. Eighth St., died Nov. 21, 1996, in his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. James Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A Moose ritual will begin at 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Edward was born June 6, 1912, at Golden Valley, to Reinhold and Matilda (Boepple) Allmendinger. He was raised and educated in rural Golden Valley. A mechanic by trade, he worked in Willmette and Glencoe, Ill., for their park districts and later at Highland Park, Ill. Edward married Lorraine Raab, April 21, 1950, in Bismarck. He retired in 1973 and they moved to Kimball, Neb. In 1979 they moved to Bismarck. For the last eight years he has volunteered his talents to ARC and was known as "Mr. Fix It." Edward also was a member of the Moose Club for many years.
Edward is survived by his wife, Lorraine; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Samuel Spier, Homosassa, Fla.; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Betty and Edgar Binder, Round Beach Lake, Ill.; two sons, Larry, Las Vegas, and William, LaVista, Neb.; one brother, William, Dodge; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Gloria Heidinger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and three sisters.
Gordon Bentz
HARVEY -- Gordon M. Bentz, 67, Harvey, died Nov. 20, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.
Gordon was born Dec. 6, 1928, at Harvey, the son of Fred Jr. and Alice (Rott) Bentz. He grew up in Harvey and graduated from Harvey High School in 1947. He then attended Dakota Business College in Fargo for two years. He returned to Harvey and joined his father in the farm implement and family farming operation. He married Jeanne Bethke, Oct. 10, 1948, in Harvey. They lived in Harvey. He became owner of Bentz Implement and Bentz Farms after his father died in 1964. He retired in 1983. Gordon and Jeanne transported recreational vehicles for Capital RV in Bismarck for the past several years.
During his retirement years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed by his wife, family, grandchildren and many good friends.
He was a member of Wells Eagles Aerie at Harvey.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter and son-in-law, Beckee and Steven Keller Jr., Harvey; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Fred, Gordon, Bruce and Debbie, and Paul and Londa, all of Bismarck; 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, in 1964, and his mother, in 1992.

MORRISTOWN, S.D. -- Carl Dobitz, 72, Morristown, died Nov. 20, 1996, in the Hettinger hospital after a long illness. Services will be at 3 p.m. MST today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Morristown, with burial in Morristown Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Rosella; one son, Fran, Morristown; seven brothers, Albert, Regent, John, Bismarck, N.D., Fred, New England, N.D., Vernon, Billings, Mont., Herbert, Jamestown, N.D., Joseph, Bakersfield, Calif., and Cliff, Fargo, N.D.; and one sister, Charlotte Krebs, New England. SCRANTON -- Arne M. Belakjon, 75, Scranton, died Nov. 21, 1996, at his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, Scranton, with burial in Haley Cemetery, Scranton.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen; one daughter, Roxanne, Bowman; and one son, David, Fort Peck, Mont. (Krebsbach Funeral Service, Bowman)
Lorin Cooke
Lorin Nels Cooke, 39, Bismarck, died Nov. 20, 1996, in the Mandan hospital after a long battle with cancer. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at McCabe United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Peary Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Sunday and 9-11 a.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service.
Lorin was born June 14, 1957, in Elgin, the son of Herbert Wesley and Fern Estella (Boyer) Cooke. He lived in New Leipzig until he was 6. The family moved to Hettinger, where he attended grade and high school. He married Verna Moe in Hettinger in 1979. Lorin lived in Bismarck for the last 12 years and worked for Iseman Corp. Holiday Park. He had been active since 1985 in the Miles of Smiles Clown Alley and the Cookie Cutter Clown Group until his illness. Appearing as Sir Nutte and Nutty, he was president of Dakota Clowns for 1994-1995, and was Clown of the Year in 1996.
He is survived by his mother, Fern Cooke; two brothers, Wyatt, St. Anthony, and Dean, Bismarck; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Judy Fried and Marlette and Darrel Pittman, all of Bismarck, and Alice Dempsey, Wisconsin; one daughter, Karen Cooke, South Dakota; four nieces; two nephews; and aunts and uncles, Willard and Margaret Boyer, Elgin, Kenneth and Leona Boyer, Colorado, Don and Millie Boyer, California, Ralph and Ruth Boyer, Minnesota, Lucille Boyer, Dickinson, and Ardis May, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Nov. 20, 1976.

Robert Long
Robert ``Bob" Long, 84, 114 N. Third St., died Nov. 22, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. today and after noon Sunday at the funeral home.
Bob was born May 10, 1912, in Trenton, N.J. The family moved to Hebron in 1921, where they lived for eight years. He became a printer's assistant. Bob did amateur boxing and later fought professionally in his younger years. He married Lillie Starr, Sept. 17, 1932, in Mandan. They lived in several places before settling in Bismarck in 1946. Bob coached the Bismarck Boxing Team in the 1950s. He worked for the Bismarck Tribune for 28 years before retiring in 1974.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and two brothers.
He is sruvived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Dora Mae, Fargo, and Richard and Sarah, Bismarck; one sister, Pauline Cover, Camp Hill, Pa.; three grandchildren, Sherry Jones, Shelley Yantzer and Shawn Long; and five great-grandchildren.
Bernice Kruger
NEW SALEM -- Bernice Kruger, 84, Mandan, formerly of New Salem, died Nov. 22, 1996, in her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Peace Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Harley Holden officiating. Burial will be in Peace Cemetery, New Salem.
Visitation will begin at noon Sunday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, New Salem, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Bernice Tellmann was born March 3, 1912, at Rosebud, the daughter of Charles and Ella (Schmeling) Tellmann. She was educated in the area and graduated from New Salem High School and Dickinson State Teachers College. She spent the major portion of her life in and around the New Salem area, until she moved to Mandan in May of this year. She taught in rural schools in the New Salem area for 18 years and married Harold Kruger, Oct. 5, 1938. After leaving her teaching position, Bernice worked at the New Salem Co-op for 20 years. Harold died June 16, 1988.
Bernice was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a good friend and teacher.
She was loved and will be missed dearly by those who survive her, including her daughter, Karen Boehm, Mandan; her three granddaughters and their families, Renee and Lance Doll, and Roxanne and Pat Eggers, all of New Salem, and Sandy and Kelvin Kunz, Mandan; four grandsons and their families, Todd and Johnelle Boehm, Mandan, Kevin and Dawn Grindahl, Crookston, Minn., Kelly and Jill Grindahl, Savage, Minn., and Kyle and Marsha Grindahl, West Fargo; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Colson, New Salem; and one son-in-law, Donald Grindahl, West Fargo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; and one daughter, Eunice Grindahl.

Dorothy Pehl
Dorothy D. Pehl, 85, Golden Manor Nursing Home, Steele, formerly of Arena, died Nov. 19, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Dorothy Borkman was born June 6, 1911, at Newell, S.D., the daughter of Dallas and Hattie (Battey) Borkman. The family moved to Driscoll, where they homesteaded in Lein Township. She attended school in Driscoll and graduated from Driscoll High School in 1930. She worked in Bismarck as a telephone switchboard operator. Dorothy had planned to start teacher's college, but romance was around the corner, as she met George Pehl at local dances. They were married Oct. 3, 1931, in the Arena Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Marcis Doudler, followed by a reception dinner at George Pehl Sr.'s home, followed by a wedding dance in Wing. They started their marriage by living with the George Pehl Sr. family, later moving to a couple of different farms south of Arena. George saw the opportunity of purchasing the family farm north of Arena where his father and grandfather homesteaded, and where they lived and raised three children. Dorothy took a great interest in raising Aberdeen Angus cattle. She loved her cats and flowers, and took great delight in her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, George; two sons, Neil and George ``Corky", both of Arena; and one daughter, Sandra A. McCraney, Washington; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dallas, in March 1956, and her mother, Hattie, in October 1984. (Boelter Funeral Home)
