WATAUGA, S.D. -- Robert E. Nehl, 78, Watauga, died March 25, 1997, in his home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. MST Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Watauga, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, LaVaughn; five sons, Pat, David and Nick, all of Watauga, Steve, Carson, N.D., and Shawn, Simla, Colo.; three daughters, Linda West, Madera, Calif., Mary Ann Peterson, St. Cloud, Minn., and Edee Stewart, Helena, Mont.; two brothers, Earl, Edmonds, Wash., and Ted, Morristown; and two sisters, Rose Seiler, McIntosh, and Zella Lemer, Spearfish. Margaret Sailer
Margaret M. Sailer, 70, 315 N. 25th St., died March 25, 1997, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be at a later date as Mrs. Sailer has donated her body to the UND Medical School for research.
Margaret M. Albrecht was born March 13, 1927, in Bismarck, the daughter of Christian and Barbara (Riedlinger) Albrecht. She was raised and educated in Temvik and graduated from Bismarck High School. She attended college in LeMars, Iowa. She moved back to Bismarck, where she married John Sailer. She was a secretary most of her life, most recently for BECEP.
She is survived by one daughter, Mari Sailer, Madison, Wis.; one son, David, Lacey, Wash.; one sister, Esther Pfaff, Eugene, Ore.; three brothers, Arthur, San Antonio, Texas, and Robert and Sam, both of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Rex, Emmanuel, Walter, Carl and Harold; and one sister, Lydia Redlaczyk.
Emil Swenson
SYKESTON -- Emil R. Swenson, 80, Acworth, Ga., formerly of Sykeston, died March 24, 1997, in an Atlanta hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sykeston, with burial in Carrington Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Laura; two sons, Jerald, Belgrade, Mont., and Jack, Sykeston; three daughters, Jeanne Stahl, Dallas, Ga., Janice Peterson, Acworth, and Jane Cazier, Three Forks, Mont.; two brothers, Willis, Lakota, and Eskil, Kenmare; and one sister, Sylvia Hanson, Bismarck. She is survived by her husband, Melvin; three sons, Alfie Marsh, Portland, Ore., Brandon Marsh, Lawrence, Kan., and Brady Brunk, Dickinson; her mother, Dorothy Gilmore, El Dorado, Kan.; two brothers, Bill Douglass, El Dorado, and Bobby Douglass, Lake Forest, Ill.; and one sister, Deborah Douglass, Houston, Texas.

Evalyn G. Hermann, 85, Bismarck, died March 25, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck. Further arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.
Katherine Bullinger
Katherine Bullinger, 70, 213 S. Prairie Lane, Mandan, died March 26, 1997, in her home. Services will be held at 10-30 a.m. Monday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Catholic Daughters rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Sunday, followed by a parish vigil at 4:30.
Katherine (Markel) Bullinger was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Rosebud, the daughter of Peter and Florence (Erhardt) Markel. Katherine attended schools in the Judson area. She married Edward Bullinger Nov. 12, 1945, in St. Anthony. She worked as a noon duty supervisor at Mary Stark Elementary School in Mandan for several years.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Edward J. and Kim, Mandan; seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Shirley Kuller, Gloria and Lamont Unterseher, JoAnn and Harry House, Florence and Douglas Bauer, and Kay and Scott Way, all of Mandan, Brenda and Rick Kriedeman, Center, and Edna and Bob Crowell, Turtle Lake; 14 grandchildren, Sherry Kuller, Monte, Camaie and Steve Unterseher, Dustin and Darren Bauer, Bob W. and Buck Crowell, Rhonda and Sara Jo Kriedeman, Dylan and Erik Way and Edward III and Christopher Bullinger; two great-grandchildren, Brandy Unterseher and Emily Cole; four brothers, Pete, John, Connie and Steve, all of Mandan; and one sister, Florence Schaaf, Mandan.
A special thanks to Vi Keys, Nancy Ferr, Loretta Muth, Doris Schwenk and Joel Snider. Katherine also was very fond of her two special pets, Missy and Katy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, who died Dec. 2, 1978; three brothers, Joe, Clem and Ignatz; and two sisters, Ann and Minnie.

Gladys Scheidt
BEULAH -- Gladys M. Scheidt, 90, Beulah, died March 28, 1997, in the Beulah nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.
Gideon Herr
NAPOLEON -- Gideon P. "Geitz" Herr, 89, Napoleon, died March 27, 1997, at his home. Geitz was born Nov. 12, 1907, in Wishek, the son of John G. and Christina (Schock) Herr.
He grew up in Wishek, and received his education in Wishek Public Schools. At the age of 18 he started his career as a barber's apprentice, receiving his license on May 27, 1927. In 1928 he purchased a local barber shop which he operated for more than 40 years.
On Nov. 12, 1928, he married Madeline Knight at Ashley. They made their home in Wishek. Geitz was active in Wishek community affairs, serving the community as a school board member, city council member, mayor, city assessor and postmaster.
Gietz was always an enthusiastic sportsman, referee and sports fan. He loved to bowl, hunt, play baseball, football and golf. Many people will remember him running and bicycling around town many years before exercise became popular. He continued to play golf and cheer for the local teams until the present time.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Madeline, Jan. 23, 1989. Geitz married Dorothy Meier on Oct. 25, 1990, at Bismarck, and made Napoleon their home. While living in Wishek, he was a member of First Baptist Church, later becoming a member of Napoleon United Methodist Church. He was also active as a Lion's Club member in both communities, and in the North Dakota Barbers Association.
Gideon is survived by his wife, Dorothy Herr, Napoleon; one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Grace Herr, Marco Island, Fla.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Yvonne Herr, Palatine, Ill., Suzanne and Jim Riesterer, Edina, Minn., Nancy and Randy Churchwell, Baileyton, Tenn., and Kristen and Matt Johnson, Amanda, Ohio; six great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Rebecca Herr, Palatine, Adam and Alexander Riesterer, Edina, and McKinley and Hanna Churchwell, Baileyton; two sisters, Bertha Zeeb, Salem, Ore., and Della Schauer, Stockton, Calif.; and one brother, William Herr, Silverton, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Madeline Herr; four brothers, August, John, Julius and Donald Herr; and two sisters, Magdalene Benzkofer and Edna Schwengels.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Wishek, with the Rev. Allen Finger and Keith Rice officiating. Burial bill be in Wishek Cemetery.
Pallbearers for the service are Scott Herr, Jim Riesterer, Randy Churchwell, Matt Johnson, Orvin Rueb, Richard Herr, Lorren Henke and Clarence Kienzle.
Mrs. Linda Stading will serve as organist, with special music provided by the Men's Quartet, Lee Aipperspach, Bruce Schauer, Jeff Schauer and Clyde Kramer.
Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. today at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon, where a family service will begin at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m.-noon Monday at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek, and one hour before services at the church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wishek Area Dollars for Scholars, P.O. Box 504, Wishek, N.D. 58495.
Ella Lange
FLASHER -- Ella Lange, 84, formerly of Flasher, died March 26, 1997, in the Mott nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. MST Tuesday at Flasher Cemetery.
Ella was born in Gall, the daughter of Frank L. and Emma (Bornhoeft) Lange. She was raised and educated in the Flasher area, graduating from Flasher High School. She worked as a nurse's aide in the Bismarck Hospital.
Ella was a lifelong member of American Lutheran Church, Flasher.
She is survived by a niece and nephew.

Clement Dvorak
DICKINSON -- Clement Dvorak, 83, Dickinson, died March 25, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be held at 9 a.m. MST Monday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, New Hradec.

Elroy Schuetz
Elroy A. Schuetz, 66, Mandan, died March 28, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Mark Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 707 of Mandan.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.
Elroy Arthur was born Oct. 10, 1930, at Eureka, S.D., the son of Arthur and Lydia (Kurle) Schuetz. His father died in 1932. In 1935 he moved with his mother to a farm six miles northeast of Linton, where he was raised and attended rural school. He received his high school diploma through the GED program. During the Korean conflict he served in the U.S. Air Force as a specialized jet engine mechanic. He married Betty Sauter, June 21, 1953, at Linton. They farmed northeast of Linton until 1956, when they moved to Minot. In Minot, he was employed by Eddy's Bakery and Behms Propane as a truck driver. In 1958 they moved to Mandan where he worked for Mandan Creamery and Produce until 1962. He then went to work for Remund Ford Mercury as a mechanic. In 1967 he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service as a city letter carrier, and in 1976 was given a partial disability due to health problems. He then contracted with the postal service and operated a rural postal delivery service until his retirement in 1988.
He was very active in volunteer youth programs, serving nine years with the Boy Scouts of America, and 11 years as commander of the Cadet Squadron, North Dakota Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. He was an active member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Mandan, where he served on several committees. He was also a member of American Legion in Mandan.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy and Bruce Kindsvogel, and Jacqueline Schuetz, all of Mandan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Barbara, Algonquin, Ill., Perry and Marilyn, Mandan, and Dan and Tammi, Linton; 10 grandchildren, of whom he was very proud and loved so dearly; one half-brother, Leslie Beck; and his stepfather, Herbert Beck, both of Linton.
Jeanette Vetter
ESMOND -- Jeanette A. Vetter, 53, Devils Lake, died March 24, 1997, in the Devils Lake hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Esmond, with burial in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her mother, Caroline Willy, Harvey; three sons, Robert, West Fargo, Micheal, Moorhead, Minn., and David, Esmond; three daughters, Aime Ellingson, Spanaway, Wash., Lisa Wetch, St. Charles, Mo., and Rachel Vetter, Esmond; three sisters, Ardys Jaeger, Esmond, Elaine White, Moorhead, and Eileen Weigel, Tacoma, Wash.; and one brother, Marvin Willy, Minneapolis. Marian Beck
Marian Beck, 83, 4108 River Road, Bismarck, died March 26, 1997, at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Church of Corpus Christi, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Zastoupil officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. today and 5-9 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A Catholic Daughter's rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, followed by a vigil service.
Leonard Siirtola
Leonard Siirtola, 68, Mandan, died March 27, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wing, with the Rev. Muriel Lippert-Schauer officiating. Burial will be in Wing Cemetery.
Visitation will be 9 a.m.-9 p.m. today, 3-9 p.m. Sunday and 9-11 a.m. Monday at Boelter Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Leonard was born May 4, 1928, in Bismarck, the son of Heimo and Aino (Pesonen) Siirtola. He was raised and educated in the Wing area, attending Lyman School No. 2. Leonard farmed in Lyman Township. In 1950 he entered the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. After his discharge in 1952, he returned to farming. He married Paulette Kuntz on Oct. 20, 1969, in Bismarck.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Todd Haugen, Bismarck; one son, Jason, Mandan; one sister, Selma Laub, Bismarck; two brothers, Francis, Bismarck, and Henry, Wing; and one grandson, Layne Haugen.
He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Sheila; his parents; three sisters, Linda, Martha and Hulda; and two brothers, Felix and Everett.
Arthur Deckert
Arthur Deckert, 88, Bismarck, died Feb. 20, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bismarck Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Norby officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Arena.
Arthur was born March 29, 1908, in Arena, to William and Lena (Enz) Deckert. He was married to Ethel Brenden in 1938 at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle. They farmed and ranched for many years in the Arena area. Art worked for Patterson Land Co. for 12 years in Gackle and also worked in the lumber business for 20 years in Roseberg, Ore.
Arthur was a member of English Lutheran Church, Tuttle. He enjoyed socializing and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel; three brothers, George, Bernard and Orville, all of Wing; three sisters, Lillian Buller, Wing, Alma Hinkel, Wing, and Burnette Teske, Washburn; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Henry.

Wilbert Lehmkuhl
CENTER -- Wilbert H. "Moc" Lehmkuhl, 86, Center, died Feb. 27, 1997, in the Mandan nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Center, with the Rev. Glenn Berge officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by Center American Legion.
Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
"Moc" was born May 5, 1910, in Center, the son of Louis and Ida (Scherer) Lehmkuhl. He attended school in Center and graduated from New Salem High School. In the 1930s he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps.
During World War II he served as a medic stationed in Persia (Iran). After the war he played with Roland Richter's Orchestra and also taught at Sunny Side School.
He married Edna Michaels, July 22, 1947. They made their home in Center, where Moc was employed with the Fort Clark Irrigation District. He was later employed with the Corps of Engineers in Bismarck until his retirement in 1977.
During his lifetime he was involved in many civic organizations, including the Selective Service Board, St. Paul's Church Board and American Legion. He directed the Center Community Band for 39 years and was also director of emergency services for Oliver County. A member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Center, he taught Bible class and also rang the church bell. A man who had no harsh words for anyone, Moc will be remembered for many things, including his sense of humor, his enjoyment of a game of cribbage and the delight he found in music.
He is survived by one sister, Elsie Cordes, New Salem; two nieces, Delores Leinius, Stanton, and Beatrice Berger, Center; two grandnieces; four grandnephews; eight great-grandnieces; one great-grandnephew; Edna's two nieces and two nephews; and many friends and acquaintances. He will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Edna, who died on July 5, 1991.
