Rena Smith
Rena Smith, 73, Madison, Wis., died July 5, 1996, at her home, due to complications from diabetes. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at Latter Day Saints Church, 4505 Regent St., Madison. Her remains will be interned with her parents and her sister in Greencastle, Pa.

Rena Mae Zook was born July 9, 1922, in Hinsdale, Ill. She grew up in Hamburg, N.Y., graduating from Hamburg High School. She attended business college in Buffalo, N.Y. and went on to graduate from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1946. She was married to attorney William C. Smith from 1948 to 1979. During her marriage, she lived in Fayette and Waterloo, Iowa, Richmond, Ind., Bismarck and Pontiac, Mich. She then moved to Madison, Wis., in 1975 and lived there for the remainder of her years, except for three years when she was a fraternity/sorority housemother in Iowa City, Iowa.

Besides being a homemaker and loving mother, Rena was an accomplished artist, craftsperson, puppeteer, writer, seamstress/tailor and piano player. She won numerous awards and prizes over the years for her creative acrylic paintings. She was a past president/member of the National League of American Pen Women and was a founding member of the Elan Art Gallery in Bismarck. She was affiliated with many other artists and writers guilds over the years. She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. She also was involved with her Presbyterian and Methodist Church groups and taught Sunday school classes. The last several years, Rena was a member of the Latter-day Saints Church in Madison.

She is survived by her children, Curtis C. Smith, Madison, C. Jacob (Marcia) Smith, Erie, Ill., and Lisa (Roger) L. White, Oregon, Wis.; one sister, Jean C. Frame, Darien, Conn.; five grandchildren; four nieces; two nephews; and her dearest friend, Mary Klein, Burlington, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob B. and Rena (Hayford) Zook; one son, Attorney Barry C. Smith; and one sister, Cordelia L. Vanderwiel. (Cress Funeral Service, Madison)

August Scheerer
CARSON -- August J. Scheerer, 84, Carson, died July 3, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. MDT Monday, at Emmaus Congregational United Church of Christ, Carson, with the Rev. Dale Carmen officiating. Burial will be in Emmaus Congregational Cemetery, Carson.

Serving as casketbearers will be Gary Tietz, Harold Finck, Rueben Reichert, Walter Scheerer, Orville Sauter, Darwyn Diehl and Wilmer Steinley.

August J. Scheerer was born Aug. 9, 1911, in rural Carson Township, to John and Lydia (Lutz) Scheerer. He attended country school and later Roosevelt school system. August worked with his family on the farm and took the operation over in 1934. He married his lifelong friend, Freda Huber, Nov. 17, 1935, at Emmaus Congregational United Church of Christ in Carson. They had two children, Richard and Carol. The family lived for one year in Portland, Ore., where August was a bread baker. He retired from farming in 1972, and moved into Carson in October and became the town painter and handyman.

August loved fishing, gardening, woodworking and reading. He was very active and held leadership roles for many years with Emmaus Church. He took great pride in the community of Carson and worked hard maintaining its beauty.

August will be dearly missed by his wife, Freda, Carson; one son, the Rev. Richard Scheerer and his wife, Nancy, Mason City, Iowa; one daughter, Carol and her husband, David Doran, Bend, Ore.; and two grandchildren, Ian Scheerer, Minneapolis, and Angela and her husband, Tom Kelly, Lincoln, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, one sister; and an infant son, James in 1939.

Memorials are preferred to Charles L. Hall Home in Bismarck. (Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin)

Dexter Voeller
RUGBY -- Dexter Voeller, 20, Rugby, died July 4, 1996, at a Afton, Wyo. hospital, due to a drowning accident. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Little Flower Catholic Church, Rugby. Burial will be in Little Flower Catholic Cemetery, Rugby.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, and 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Anderson Funeral Home Rugby, where a rosary and prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Dexter Voeller was born June 1, 1976, in Rugby, the son of Sheldon and Janet (Eback) Voeller. He was raised and educated south of Wolford, in Rush Lake Township. He came to Rugby in 1989. While attending Rugby High School, he was involved in basketball, track and played drums in the school band. He was captain of the basketball and track teams his senior year, and was named to the All-District Basketball Team.

Dexter graduated in the spring of 1994. In the fall of 1994 he attended the University of Mary in Bismarck, on a partial track scholarship. In his sophomore year he earned an academic scholarship as well as a track scholarship. He was part of the 4x400 relay and recently broke the school record for the 600-meter run.

He was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby.

He is survived by his parents, Sheldon and Janet, Rugby; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Tammy and Bill Blumhagen, Fargo, and Holly Voeller, at home; paternal grandmother, Irene Voeller, Rugby; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Pius Voeller; and maternal grandparents, Mike and Betty Eback.

Winielou Johnson
Winielou H. Johnson, 68, Applewood, Colo., died June 14, 1996, in hospice care at her home. A memorial was held June 16 at Lutheran Hospital Chapel, Wheatridge, Colo.

The daughter of Hazel and Henry A. Halverson, she was born in New Rockford on Nov. 13, 1927. She started studying piano at the age of 4 and went on to study organ at the age of 16. She graduated from Bismarck High School and Bismarck Junior College. Her undergraduate and graduate music instruction were taken at the University of Tulsa. She studied under Belle Mehus and taught at the Mehus Conservatory. She was a devoted pianist and organist. She played at many churches in the Bismarck and Mandan area. Her last and longest church association was at the United Church of Christ in Wheatridge. She married Melvin C. ``Red" Johnson, June 25, 1953, in Bismarck.

She cherished her family, and is survived by her husband, Melvin C. ``Red;" two sons, Ted, Lakewood, Colo., and Jeffrey, Lincoln, Neb.; two daughters, Ann Creutz, Alfred, Me., and Patricia Blanchard, McCune, Kan.; and four grandchildren, Tim, Katy, Alexandra and Morgan.

John Krous
GLADSTONE -- John Krous, 102, Mandan, formerly of Gladstone, died July 5, 1996, in Mandan. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. MDT Tuesday, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Gladstone. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Gladstone.

He is survived by five daughters, Katie Berger, Valley City, Barbara Rohr, Dickinson, Violet Kukus, Glendive, Mont., Pauline Berger, Mansfield, Ohio, and Mary Leingang, Bismarck; and two sons, Mike, Tappen, and Daniel, Mansfield. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

Anton Leintz
KILLDEER -- Anton Leintz, 90, Maple Plain, Minn., formerly of Killdeer, died July 5, 1996, in Maple Plain. Services will be at 11 a.m. MDT Tuesday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Killdeer. Burial will be in Killdeer Cemetery.

He is survived by five daughters, Helen Brown, Mankato, Minn., Agnes Johnson, Reeder, Angeline Smith, Rodeo, Calif., June Werk, Kensington, Minn., and Beatrice Richards, Pensacola, Fla.; and five sons, Leo, Maple Lake, Minn., Don, New Brighton, Minn., Mark, Buffalo, Minn., Paul, Maple Plain, and Joe, Orono, Minn. Clifton Young
DICKINSON -- Clifton A. Young, 53, Dickinson, died July 3, 1996. Arrangements are pending with Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Chrystine Condon
Chrystine Condon, 93, Langdon, died July 3, 1996, in the Langdon nursing home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Presbyterian Church, Langdon. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, rural Langdon.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Kellogg, Henderson, Nev.; and one sister, Agnes Meadows, Carrington. (Brooks Funeral Home, Langdon)

Dorothy Klein
Dorothy C. Klein, 49, 1836 Allison Drive, died June 28, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Brethren Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Allan Shaner officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight and 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Dorothy Meschke was born Jan. 29, 1947, in Dickinson, the daughter of Ralph and Betty Meschke. She was raised north of Medora, near Frank's Creek. She was educated in Sentinel Butte and Belfield, graduating from Belfield High School in 1965. Dorothy married Rodger T. Klein July 3, 1965, in Belfield. They lived there until 1987 when they moved to Bismarck.

She loved crocheting, studying the Bible, going to church, and especially her children.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Paul Miller, Dickinson, and Connie and Allen Ganje, Washburn; two sons, Chad and Charles, both of Bismarck; several grandchildren; her mother, Betty Camp; three sisters; four brothers; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; and her husband, Rodger.

Hazel Phillips
Hazel M. Phillips, 79, 1128 Bozeman Drive, died June 28, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. David Swonger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Hazel Clark was born Nov. 18, 1916, in Beulah, the daughter of Joseph and Julia (Lysager) Clark. They moved to St. Paul, Minn., where she was employed by Miller Hospital. There she married Robert Phillips in 1944. They moved to Bismarck, where he was in the roofing business. She loved children and babysat many through the years.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Laurence and Darlene, West Fargo, and Robert R. and Sue, Forest Lake, Minn.; one daughter, Janet Bark, Waterloo, Ill.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, William Clark, Lindstrom, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother; one sister; and two nephews.

Mark Dallmann
EDGELEY -- Mark Dallmann, 39, Edgeley, died June 28, 1996, in Great Falls, Mont. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Edgeley, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Edgeley.

He is survived by his wife, Leah; one daughter, Paige, at home; his mother, Meleta Dallmann, West Fargo; three brothers, Willie, Valley City, Gene, Fargo, and Brent, West Fargo; and one sister, Marilyn Vossler, Fargo. (Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown)

Alma Wiedmeier
HARVEY -- Alma Wiedmeier, 99, Harvey, died June 27, 1996, in the Harvey nursing home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, Harvey, with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey.

She is survived by two sons, Thornton Stark, El Reno, Okla., and Ken Wiedmeier, Filer, Idaho; one daughter, Jean Santistevan, Wendover, Utah; one brother, Otto Grochow, Anamoose. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)

Karen Pettit
MARTIN -- Karen Pettit, 53, Huntsville, Ala., formerly of Martin, died June 29, 1996, in a Huntsville hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Anamoose, with burial in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one son, Todd Wiedmeier, McDoungh, Ga.; three daughters, Lorrie Mauro, Moulton, Ala., Khristine Wiedmeier, McDoungh, and Jenny Scanlan, San Ramon, Calif.; her mother, Helen Schwarze, Anamoose; brothers, and Bob Schwarze, Anamoose, Greg Schwarze, Las Vegas. HARVEY -- Beverly Buchholz, 54, Harvey, died June 29, 1996, in the Harvey hospital. Arrangements are pending at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey.

Myrtle Cottonwood
CANNON BALL -- Myrtle Cottonwood, 71, Cannon Ball, died June 26, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cannon Ball School Gym, with burial in Big Lake Cemetery.

She is survived by four sons, George Fool Bear, Cannon Ball, Ervin Plenty Chief, Cannon Ball, Lance Howard, Wagner, S.D., and John Cottonwood, Denver; and four daughters, Leora Wise Spirit and Alva Gabe, both of Cannon Ball, Genelli Pretty Bear, Cambridge, Ohio, and Emma Plenty Chief, Chicago. LaRue Jahraus
HEBRON -- LaRue Jahraus, 52, Chandler, Ariz., died June 29, 1996, at her home. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Wednesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hebron. Further arrangements are pending at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron.

Aage Nelson
NEW ENGLAND -- Aage Nielsen, 83, New England, died June 28, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, New England. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Delton Bratz
COLEHARBOR -- Delton H. Bratz, 72, Coleharbor, died June 28, 1996, in a Mandan hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Riverdale, with the Rev. John Nilsen officiating. Burial will be in Coleharbor Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison. There will be no reviewal at the church.

Delton was born May 23, 1924, at Garrison, to Emil and Erna (Wilke) Bratz. He received his education at Coleharbor, where he lived until the time of his death. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of I.U.O.E. Local No. 49.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Coleharbor. He married Bernice Bauer, April 28, 1946, in Napoleon. She preceded him in death on May 6, 1975. He married Elvira (Engel) Leno, Oct. 23, 1976 in Bismarck.

He was known for his ability to tell stories and his sense of humor. His hobbies included restoring old toys.

He is survived by his wife, Elvira; one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Donna, Willmar, Minn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Donald Martin, Bismarck, and Terral and James Frieboes, Dickinson; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Arnold ""Pep" and Jackie, Coleharbor, and Gerald, Jacksonville, Fla.; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lucille Carlson, Jacksonville, and Joyce and Bill Allen, Pensicola, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one daughter; and one brother.

Pallbearers will be Dean Guenther, Mel Stebbins, Harry Pochant, Duane Brenniese, Alden Pochant and Byron ""Pete" Baker.

LeRoy Nelson
LeRoy Nelson, 71, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, died June 29, 1996, in the nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Allan Radomski
Allan L. Radomski, 49, Mandan, died March 8, 1997, in his home. Services will be at 7 tonight at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Services also will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, with burial in Velva Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Allan was born Oct. 16, 1947, in Minot, the son of Dewald and Frieda (Wojahn) Radomski. He attended school in Jamestown, Wahpeton and St. Paul, Minn., before moving to Mandan, where he and Larry Piatz established the Mandan Watch Shop in 1975.

Allan is survived by his mother, Frieda Sandberg, Velva; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Jim Scheresky, Max, and Annetta and Vernon Peplow, Hazen, and Carolyn and Alvin Aaseth, Wheatland, Wyo.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Terri, Apple Valley, Minn., and Darrell and Elly, Mandan; numerous nieces and nephews; and his friend and business partner, Larry Piatz.

Allan was preceded in death by his father, Dewald Radomski; and his stepfather, Warran Sandberg.

John Zwarych
John J. Zwarych, 79, The Kensington, died March 7, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, with military rites by Bismarck VFW.

Visitation wil be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, where a rosary will be said at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

John was born Aug. 6, 1917, in Wilton, the son of Matt and Anna (Tkach) Zwarych. He grew up in Wilton and graduated from Wilton High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Feb. 17, 1941, to Oct. 15, 1945. John was a salesman for R.J. Reynolds Co. for several years. He later worked for Fleck Motor Sales. In 1957, he began working for McCarney Ford, where he remained until his retirement in 1985.

John was a member of Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Amvets, Elks, Eagles and attended many functions at the Senior Center.

He is survived by one son, Dr. James, Louisville, Ky.; one sister, Kathrine Karaffa, Livingtson, Mont.; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Schwartz, Mandan; two brothers-in-law, Maynard Blandin and Adam Wetzstein, both of Mandan; and three grandchildren, Jamie Ann, Jenniffer and John J.

The family prefers memorials to Burleigh County Senior Center.
