Mercy Anheluk
FAIRFIELD -- Mercy Anheluk, 78, Fall Creek, Ore., formerly of Fairfield, died Feb. 1, 1997, in Oregon. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Demitrius Ukrainian Catholic Church, rural Belfield, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fairfield.
She is survived by one daughter, Grace Anheluk, Springfield, Ore.; two sons, Edward, Fall Creek, and Arnold, Jasper, Ore.; two brothers, Joe Romanyshyn and Eugene Romanyshyn, both of North Dakota; and two sisters, Catherine Mularchek and Julie Hurinenko, both of North Dakota. John Schilling
John F. Schilling, 94, Bismarck, died Feb. 5, 1997, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jim Cissel officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck. Visitation will continue at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and one hour before services at the church.
John was born Feb. 4, 1903, the son of John and Caroline (Kessler) Schilling, in the Ukraine of the Russian Empire. He came to the United States, April 12, 1903, with his parents. He was raised on a farm north of Glen Ullin and educated in the Liberty School District. On Oct. 2, 1927, he married Christine Keierleber in Hebron. They farmed for a few years, and in 1934, moved to East St. Louis, Ill., to attend Parks Air College. After graduation, he worked at St. Louis International Airport, where he met some of the most famous aviators of the day. He worked on aircraft flown by Charles Lindbergh, Jimmy Doolittle and Amelia Erhardt. In 1936, he moved to California to work in the aircraft construction industry in San Diego and Los Angeles. From 1942 to 1965 he worked for the Douglas Aircraft Co., building and testing expiremental aircraft of all types. During World War II he helped build the Douglas Skystreak, one of America's first jet-powered aircraft. In 1947, he helped produce the Douglas Skyrocket, the first aircraft in the world to fly at twice the speed of sound. Later he worked on new aircraft for the U.S. Navy, including the famous A-4 Skyhawk. His work also included construction of the Redstone Guided Missile used in the space program. He retired in 1972 and moved to Bismarck.
He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Karen, Bismarck; a special nephew and his wife, LaVern and Betty Schilling, Glen Ullin; several nephews and nieces; grandnieces and grandnephews; and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine; his parents; two brothers, Christ and George; and one sister, Frieda Bellon.
Bert Helmenstein
CENTER -- Bert W. Helmenstein, 71, Center, died Feb. 4, 1997, in his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Center, with the Rev. Glenn Berge officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Bert was born Sept. 28, 1925, in Mandan, the son of Harold and Lydia (Ekwortzell) Helmenstein. He was raised in the Otter Creek area and was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Hannover. He served in Korea with U.S. Army Engineers. He was united in marriage to Lyla Letzring on Nov. 3, 1952, in Churchtown. They had been residents of Center since 1967.
He is survived by his wife, Lyla; two daughters and one son-in-law, Brenda and Rick Gorley, Center, and Robin Helmenstein, Bismarck; one son, Brian, Center; six grandchildren, Jessica Adolf, Lora and Kasey Gorley, Jetta Helmenstein, and Brian Jr. and Melissa Helmenstein; two great-grandchildren, Eythen Helmenstein and Alicia Adolf; his mother, Lydia Helmenstein; six sisters, Fay Albers, Chyral Schaaf, Lila Albert, Violet Kobs, Betty Perkins and Joyce Majors; and three brothers, Russell, Gaylord and Virgil.
He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters.
Nichlous 'Nick' Dworshak
Nichlous "Nick" Dworshak, 78, died in a Mandan hospital on Feb. 4, 1997. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Dakota Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Hugo Backes officiating.
Nick was raised in Flasher. He married Eunice Dworshak in 1950 and had worked for Northern Improvement Co.
He is survived by three brothers and one sister-in-law, Michael, Oregon, Tony and Mary, Bismarck, and Peter, South Dakota; two sisters, Mary Daugherty, Idaho, and Sister Katherine Dworshak, Mandan; one son, Vernon Dworshak; one daughter, Cindy Dworshak; three stepdaughters, Elsie Vosine, Connie Dahl and Sharon Chrononmiller; two stepsons, Doug Dworshak and Ronald Dworshak; four granddaughters, Norma, Leeann, Cyndi and Brittany Dworshak; three grandsons, Michael Dworshak and his girlfriend, Jessi, Danny Dworshak, and Lyndon Dworshak; three great-grandsons, Jacob, Evan and Steven; his longtime friend, Warren Sperry; and a special friend, Janet Cashel, Minneapolis.
Ernest Klein
HEBRON -- Ernest Klein, 73, Hebron, died Feb. 4, 1997, in Richardton. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Friday at St. John United Church of Christ, Hebron, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A prayer service will begin at 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Ernest was born Aug. 28, 1923, near Hebron, the son of Jacob and Martha (Hummel) Klein. He was raised and educated in the Burt area. Ernest was a lifetime farmer in that area. He married Arlene Koehler, March 2, 1979, at Las Vegas. They farmed until moving into Hebron in 1981. He entered Richardton Health Center in December 1996.
He was a member of Germans From Russia, Brick City Seniors and Good Neighbor Club.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; two stepdaughters, Rosella Kitzan, Hebron, and Gail Eissinger, Glendive, Mont.; four step-grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Corey Roth, Glen Ullin, Holly and Nicole Eissinger, both of Glendive, and Jesse Kitzan, Hebron; one step-great-grandchild, Austin Roth; two brothers, Alvin, Mott, and Alfred, Hebron; and two sisters, Elsie Schroeder, Glasgow, Mont., and Katherine Blumhardt, Laurel, Mont.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Arthur Albers
A memorial service for Arthur W. Albers, Oviedo, Fla., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Oviedo. Graveside services will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck, later this spring.
Born Sept. 5, 1909, at Hannover, the son of John F. and Anna (Maier) Albers, he attended Oliver County rural schools, Dickinson State College and Concordia College, St. Paul, Minn. On Sept. 6, 1936, he married Rose M. Brandt. They farmed and ranched for several years until moving to Kirkland, Wash., where he was employed at defense plants. Upon his return to North Dakota he purchased a general store and was the postmaster in Hannover until 1963. He then was a general agent for Aid Association for Lutherans in Bismarck and Fargo until his retirement in 1976. During his retirement, he assisted his son in the automobile business and his daughter in the nursery business.
Art always was an active member in Missouri Synod Lutheran churches. Presently he was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Oviedo.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, LaDonna and the Rev. E.J. Rossow; one son and daughter-in-law, Hank and Jan Albers; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Carl, Barefoot Bay, Fla., Harold, Hannover, and Waldemar, Bella Vista, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers; and one granddaughter.

Tom Franck
Our beloved husband, father and step-father, Tom, quietly passed away of congestive heart failure at the age of 92 in Panorama City Convalescent Center, Jan. 31, 1997, after a short stay.
He was born one of 10 children to Anton and Elizabeth Franck, Dec. 21, 1904, in Fallon. He was raised in Fallon, Flasher, Bismarck and Mandan. In June 1929, he married Annie Thomas and worked at various jobs to support his family. In June 1955, he moved his family to Olympia and joined the Teamsters Union as a painter working for contractors Paul Braget, Paul Bagley and John Havens until his retirement in 1970. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church for many years.
Tom is survived by his wife, Esther Kirchmeier Franck; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Betty and Don Jones, Diane and James Moore, and Leona Brown, all of Olympia, Wash., and Della and Richard Guilliland, San Diego; one son, Eugene, Vancouver, Wash.; one daughter-in-law, Joyce A. Franck, Olympia; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Harlen Kirchmeier and Marlene Lingberg, Olympia, and Carol Weatherford, Spokane, Wash.; seven step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose and Mary Schmidt, both of Mandan; and two brothers, Joe, Sidney, Mont., and Frank, Yucca Valley, Calif.
He was preceded in death by Annie in 1963; his oldest son, Daniel, in 1995; his grandson, Brian, in 1994; and five of his siblings.

Simon Bosch
HALLIDAY -- Simon "Shorty" Bosch, 81, Halliday's longest residing resident, died Feb. 6, 1997, in his home after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Halliday, with the Rev. Steve Krantz officiating. Burial will be in Halliday Cemetery.
Simon "Shorty" Bosch, a son of Simon and Theresa (Bralich) Bosch, was born June 4, 1915, at Linton. He graduated from Halliday High School in 1933. Shorty married Mary Hurley, Aug. 23, 1941, in Minneapolis. He and his family moved to Halliday, where he owned and operated Bosch Meat Company until he retired in 1987.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Mary E. Bumann, Spring Park, Minn., Julie and Grant Hoffner, Fargo, Patty and bob Jenks, Yankton, S.D., and Kathy and J.S. Williams, Oakridge, Tenn.; one son and two daughters-in-law, Mike and Lavonne, Black Hawk, S.D., and Marian Bosch; 12 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one brother, Joe, Bismarck; and two sisters, Clem Schwartz, Bismarck, and Mary Mudd, Tacoma, Wash.

Edna Hettick
Edna Hettick, 80, 400 N. 15th St., died Feb. 6, 1997, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Thomas R. Marcis Jr. and Bradley R. Stoltenow officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Funeral Service. A vigil will begin at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Edna Eisenbeisz was born April 15, 1916, the daughter of Jacob and Eva Eisenbeisz, in a small sod house located 10 miles north of Bowdle, S.D. She attended Bowdle Public Schools. On Sept. 11, 1938, Edna married Fred Hettick. She belonged to Zion Lutheran Church, and was a member of Women's Missionary League. She also taught Sunday School and played the organ for Zion Lutheran Church for many years.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Harley and Joey, Dixon, Mont., and DeWayne, Bismarck; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Greg and April Hettick, Fargo, Michelle and Brad Barth, Reno, Nev., Wendy Hertz, Dillon, Mont., Sherri and Jerry Strobel, Missoula, Mont., Laura Crossland, Gulf Port, Miss., Faus and Guy Silvernale, Dixon; three great-grandchildren, Paulette Faye and Sabra Jo Strobel, and Andrea Michelle Barth; and two special friends, Margaret Weichel and Tiffany Schiermeister, both Bismarck.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hettick; and a sister, Lydia Schilling.
Memorials are preferred to Martin Luther Elementary School and Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck.
