Florian Jiskra
Florian F. Jiskra, 70, 1325 Albany Drive, died Feb. 16, 1997, in his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Ascension, Bismarck, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck. Military rites will be by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, where a rosary will be said at 7 tonight. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Florian was born March 28, 1926, at Arthur, Wis., to Frank and Justine (Svoboda) Jiskra. He was raised and educated in the Minto and Grafton areas. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March 1943 during World War II. He served aboard a troop transport, taking part in the invasions of the Philippines and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in June 1946. He married Mary Rose Michalski, Nov. 25, 1948, at Minto. They moved to Bismarck in 1968, where he worked for Bill Eslinger and John Klein at B and J Standard for a number of years. He retired in 1990. Florian enjoyed working with wood, fishing and his family.

He was a member of Ascension Knights of Columbus and VFW.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg and Michiko, Yokosuka, Japan; Keith and Kim, Bottineau, and James, Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sandi, Bismarck, and Cheryle and Joe Gagner, Bismarck; six grandchildren, Jacob, Jason and his wife, Melanie, Jordan, Joshua, Chelsea and Peter; and one great-grandchild, Zachary.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert; and two brothers, Robert and Francis.

John Hausauer
John Hausauer, 75, 1328 N. 22nd St., died Feb. 16, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Jeff Franko officiating. Burial will be in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by VFW Post No. 1326.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

John was born Aug. 11, 1921, in Regan, the son of John and Mary (Meyer) Hausauer. He was raised and educated in Regan and graduated from McClusky High School in 1940. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy and served overseas in World War II on the LST672 Navy ship. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 31, 1945. He married Esther Kurle, March 2, 1944. After his discharge, he farmed with his family in the Brush Lake and Wilton areas until 1960. They moved to New Salem and then to Turtle Lake, where he was employed as a motor grader operator for McLean County. He retired to Bismarck in September 1986. Esther died Sept. 25, 1986. He married Marci Dammann, March 4, 1988, in Bismarck at Lord of Life Lutheran Church.

John was instrumental in the first reunion of the LST672 Navy ship that he served on in World War II. He took pride in his garden and yard. He enjoyed canning his famous pickles. He was a member of Bismarck VFW, Amvets, American Legion and Eagles.

He is survived by his wife, Marci; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Margie, Portland, Ore., and Brian and Meg, Wasilla, Alaska; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and DeLanis Thomas, Harvey, and Virginia and Bill May, Bismarck; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Nancy and Todd Brady, Bismarck; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Hilda Hochhalter, Bismarck, Ruth and Joe Knowlen, Mandan, Ray Wolf, Bismarck, and Herman Helgeson, The Dalles, Ore.; four sisters-in-law, Arlene, Donna, Esther, all of Bismarck, and Jeanette, Dickinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Esther; one daughter, Carol; six brothers; and two sisters.

Mary Ann Burfield
Mary Ann Burfield, 55, 2030 N. Fifth St., died Feb. 18, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at Perry Funeral Home, Mandan, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday, followed by a parish vigil. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Mary Ann was born Sept. 12, 1941, in Chicago, the daughter of Peter and Helen (Price) Bush. She grew up in Chicago and attended school at Decatur, Ill. She married T. George Burfield, Feb. 14, 1969, at Decatur. She worked as a secretary for private employment agencies. The family moved to Bismarck in 1980. Her hobbies were doing ceramics, puzzles and holiday times. She loved her son's dog, The Bear, and her own dog, Baby.

She is survived by her husband, George; two sons and one daughter-in-law, T. George IV, Bismarck, and Robert and Nicole, Bloomington, Minn.; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Patricia and Brook Koons, Kenosha, Wis., and Suzanne Bush, Brazil, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Anthony 'Tony' Wagner
SOUTH HEART -- Anthony W. "Tony" Wagner, 87, South Heart, died Feb. 16, 1997, in the Dickinson hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, South Heart, with the Rev. Jacob Schumacher officiating. Special music will be provided by Florence Kuntz and the St. Mary's Church Choir. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Honorary bearers will be South Heart Saddle Club. Pallbearers will be Daniel Nordstrom, Neal Kelley, Todd Pace, David Pace, Glen Wagner and Herman Kubischta.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 tonight. Visitation also will be held at the church one hour before services.

Tony Wagner, son of Philip and Anna (Ertelt) Wagner, was born Oct. 9, 1909, in Valley City. He was raised and educated in the South Heart area. Tony married Ann M. Adamski, Feb. 21, 1933, in South Heart. He farmed and ranched in the South Heart and Belfield area his entire life. He was proud of his self-taught veterinarian skills that allowed him to help his neighbors. Tony was a very loving and kind father that believed strongly in a good education. He was one of the original founders of the South Heart Saddle Club.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; two daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Gilbert Nordstrom, and Kathleen and Bill Pace, all of Bismarck; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Viola and Ben Reich, Vancouver, Wash., and Barbara Oullette, Billings, Mont.; one brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Doris Wagner, South Heart; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Patti and Neal Kelley, Daniel and Jana Nordstrom, Scott and Joy Pace, Beth and Reid Anderson, Todd and Michelle Pace, David Pace, and Brooke and Kevin Melby; 15 great-grandchildren, Andrew and Joshua Nordstrom, Connor Kelley, Anthony, Breanne and David Anderson, Brenton, Kathleen, Cassandra, William and Benjamen Pace, McKenzi, Ashton and London Pace, and Paige Melby; and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Leo and Art.

Gottfried Meidinger
ASHLEY -- Gottfried C. Meidinger, 95, Wishek, died Feb. 16, 1997, in the Wishek nursing home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Salem Reformed Church, Ashley, with burial in New Kassel Cemetery, rural Zeeland.

He is survived by seven sons, Gerhardt and Melvin, both of Wishek, Norman, Bismarck, Max, Yuma, Colo., Milbert and Larry, both of Oregon City, Ore., and Kenneth, Long Lane, S.D.; five daughters, Ella Hood, Sierra Vista, Ariz., Peuna Kaseman, Wishek, Marcella Meidinger and Connie Byers, Oregon City, Ore., and Sharilyn Schauer, Andover, Minn.; and three brothers, Leopold, Art and August, all of Wishek. Charlotte Zastoupil
NEW ENGLAND -- Charlotte Zastoupil, 98, New England, died Feb. 18, 1997, in a Dickinson nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. MST Friday Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, New England. Further arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Katherine Wolf
KULM -- Katherine Elhard Wolf, 90, Kulm, died Feb, 16, 1997, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at First Congregational Church, Kulm, with burial in Gackle Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Bethke, Kulm, and Shirley Schultz, Jamestown; and one sister, Pauline Lozen, Roseville, Mich. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Kulm)

Adele Mohler
Adele R. Mohler, 74, Topeka, Kan., died Feb. 17, 1997, in her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Harveyville Cemetery, Topeka.

She is survived by two sons, Richard, Harveyville, and Mark, Wakefield; two brothers, Darry Solberg, Bismarck, and Grant Solberg, Olympia, Wash.; and two sisters, Edna Aldrich, Columbia Falls, Mont., and Helen Martineson, Billings, Mont. (Crable Funeral Home, Topeka)

Larry Still
BEACH -- Larry D. Still, 57, Beach, died Feb. 13, 1997, in Mesa. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Beach. Further arrangements are pending at Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home, Beach.

Ann Anderson
KILLDEER -- Ann Anderson, 79, Killdeer, died Feb. 17, 1997, in the Killdeer nursingg home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with burial in Dunn Center Cemetery.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathleen Jensen, Sidney, Mont.; and two sisters, Erna Anderson, Dickinson, and Ella Thompson, Killdeer. (Mischel-Olson Chapel, Dickinson)

John Metzger
HEBRON -- John Metzger, 90, Hebron, died Feb. 18, 1997, in the Glen Ullin nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Spangelo Funeral Home, Hebron.

MADDOCK -- Chrystal Foss, 83, New Ulm, Minn., died Feb. 17, 1997, in the Winthrop, Minn. nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Ulm, with burial in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Maddock.

She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Erickson, Minneapolis, and Lenore Shimota, San Diego, Calif.; three sons, David, Brainerd, Minn., Gavin, Maddock, and Kenneth, New Ulm; one sister, Ethel Nordlund, Alvarado, Minn.; and one brother, Gordon Wick, Maddock. (Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock)

Martha Hawk
WOLFORD -- Martha Hawk, 88, Wolford, died Jan. 30, 1997, in the Harvey nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Fessenden, with burial in Wolford.

She is survived by four sisters, Johanna Nilles, Durbin, Hazel Fuhrman and Esther McBain, both of Fessenden, and Sarah Rall, Harvey. (Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden)

Leavard Sailer
HAZEN -- Leavard H. Sailer, 71, Hazen, died Jan. 30, 1997, at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Rev. Jay Spoonheim officiating. Private burial services will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Seibel Funeral Home, Hazen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Kruckenberg, Alvin Gunther, Elmer Lauf, Orville Oster, John Richter and Walter Isaak. Serving as active pallbearers will be Tom Dallman, Richard Schmidt, Scott Wolff, Jerry Wolff, Rick Erickson and Shane Wolff.

Leavard was born June 11, 1925, in Krem, a son of Gottlieb and Emma (Erbele) Sailer. He was raised in rural Hazen and graduated from Hazen High School in 1944. Lee served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Europe until his honorable discharge in 1946. On June 1, 1947, he married L. Ramona Wolff in Golden Valley. Lee farmed in the area, moving to the family's current farm at Lake Sakakawea near Pick City in 1960. Lee also operated Happy Acres General Excavating and the Happy Acres Trailer Courts.

Lee was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Hazen. He served his community as a board member at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sakakawea Medical Center, Oliver Mercer Electric Cooperative, and local school boards. Lee greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. His special delights were his grandsons and his great-grandson.

He is survived by his wife, L. Ramona; one daughter, Carmel Hettich, Hazen; one brother and sister-in-law, Huber and Audrey, Hazen; three grandsons, Chad Sailer, Bismarck, Travis Sailer, stationed in the U.S. Marines in San Diego, and Russell Sailer, Bismarck; one great-grandsons, Keaton, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ardella.

Lee was loved and will be greatly missed by his family, relatives, friends and all whose lives he touched.

Earl Whitman
ROBINSON -- Earl W. Whitman, 45, Robinson, died Jan. 29, 1997, in Carrington. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Robinson, with the Rev. John Norby officiating.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Eastgate Memorial Chapel, where a Masonic service will begin at 5 p.m. Monday.

Earl was born Nov. 20, 1951, in a Bismarck hospital, the son of Harold and Irene (Dehne) Whitman. He was raised and educated in the Robinson and Pettibone areas. He attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, where he received a degree in environmental systems. He worked in Nebraska for a few years and also in various places in North Dakota. He returned to school in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and studied welding. He returned to North Dakota and worked at numerous jobs until his recent position with L.A.S. International in Carrington. He won an Eagle award in 1996 at L.A.S. International.

Earl enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and reading. He will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Irene; aunts and uncles, Marvin and Phyllis Dehne, Tuttle, Genevieve and Harold Nerby, Dawson, Derril and Anne Dehne, Tamarac, Fla., Emil and Peggy Dehne, Webb, Ala., Edith and Roy Otto, Chaseley, Dale and Mary Ann Dehne, Robinson, Amanda and Willis Koenig, Mandan, Gordon Dehne, Rapid City, S.D., Alan Whitman, Driscoll, Paul Whitman, Minot, Ward and Edith Ann Whitman, and Elsie Whitman, all of Robinson; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Whitman.
