Phyllis M. Krumm, 54, Aberdeen, S.D., formerly of Linton, died Feb. 10, 1997, in an Aberdeen hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Aberdeen, with burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen.
She is survived by her husband, Frank; three sons, Mike, Birmingham, Ala., Frank Jr., Redfield, S.D., and David, Palatine, Ill.; three daughters, Connie Sesar, Plano, Ill., and Bernice Smith and Susan Hansen, both of Aberdeen; her mother, Mary Kraft, Bismarck; two brothers, John Kraft and Joe Kraft, both of Bismarck; and three sisters, Margie Hoerner and Rita Albrecht, both of Lincoln, and Mary Jaszkowiak, Bismarck. George Burgad
NAPOLEON -- George S. Burgad, 89, Napoleon, died Feb. 11, 1997, in Napoleon. Services will be at 10-30 a.m. Friday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon, with the Rev. James Lauerman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Jim Olig will serve as pianist, with special music by the church chorus. Pallbearers will be Jaford Burgad, Rodney Burgad, Jay Burgad, Sebastian Bitz, Leo Piatz and John Engelhardt.
Visitation will be held until service time at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Napoleon.
George was born Feb. 5, 1908, southwest of Linton in a settlement known as Kautzabuck in rural Emmons County, the son of Sebastian and Anna Marie (Schlosser) Burgad. As a young boy he moved with his family to the St. Boniface area southwest of Napoleon, where they farmed and built a store. George received his elementary education in rural Logan County schools. In 1917, the family moved to Napoleon, and lived for a brief time in Milwaukee, later returning to the Napoleon area. George was married to Elsie Sieler, Nov. 14, 1941, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. They made their home on the Burgad family farm for a short time. They later moved to the Sieler family farm where they lived for one year. They then moved to a farm home six miles east of Burnstad, where they farmed until 1948.
In 1948, George and Elsie moved to Napoleon where they have resided since that time. In Napoleon, they helped open and operate Wentz Cafe for several years. During this same time George was employed by Kuntz Massey-Ferguson Implement as a salesman for several years. From 1954 to 1962 they owned and operated the local recreation hall, known as the pool hall. George also worked a local drayline business and served the city of Napoleon as a police officer for a short time. Beginning in 1962, George was employed by the local Farmers Union Elevator at Napoleon where he worked for many years. George later worked with Tony Kuntz building homes and farm buildings in the Napoleon and Wishek area. He retired in 1980, but volunteered his time as a driver for the Napoleon Care Center residents for several years. He was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Roger Malsam, Hosmer, S.D.; one granddaughter, Tass Malsam, Hosmer; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Elizabeth, Missoula, Mont., Sebastian and Ode, Long Beach, Calif., and Joseph and Carmen, Napoleon; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Barbara and LeRoy Grant, Portland, Ore., Agatha Bastyr, Victoria, Minn., and Marian and Al Carriveau, Apache Junction, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Rose Burgad, Napoleon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, John.
Christ Gerr Jr.
Christ Gerr Jr., 82, formerly of Tuttle, died Feb. 13, 1997, in the Steele nursing home. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle, with the Rev. John Norby officiating. Burial will be in Tuttle Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Christ was born Jan. 12, 1915, on a farm near Tuttle, the son of Christof and Paulina (Bauer) Gerr. He was raised and educated in a country school near Tuttle. Christ farmed northeast of Tuttle for several years. He married Martha Ottmar, June 26, 1945, in Wishek. They continued to reside on the family farm near Tuttle. Christ enjoyed spending time in his tractor until poor health wouldn't permit it. He had been a resident of Golden Manor Nursing Home in Steele since September 1996.
Christ was a member of English Lutheran Church Council and the Township Board for many years.
He is survived by one daughter, Gladys Gerr, Steele; one son, Christ, Tuttle; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Clara and Ed Bickel, Tuttle, and Lenora Beattie, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Martin and Mary, St. Paul, Minn., and Robert, Tuttle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha, in 1996; one infant brother, Henry; and one infant sister, Martha.
William 'Bill' Weigum
William ``Bill" A. Weigum, 80, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, formerly of 2036 Kavaney Drive, died Feb. 12, 1997, in the nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Thomas R. Marcis Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation is ongoing at Boelter Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
He was born Aug. 24, 1916, north of Zap, in Mercer County, the son of Christ and Lydia (Sailer) Weigum. He was raised by his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Herrmann, and was educated in Zap. He attended barber college and worked as a barber in Zap, and later in Mandan. William married Eugenia Beyl Hoffmann, June 24, 1967, in Bismarck. After many years in construction work, he worked for Montgomery Ward until he retired in 1980.
He is survived by his wife, Eugenia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Eileen, San Antonio, Texas, and Ronald and Judy, Bismarck; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Floyd Schulz, Marguerite and Kenneth Ulmer, all of Bismarck, and Marilyn and Delroy Wohlk, Underwood; two stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law, Marion and Wilmer Meske, Bismarck, and Betty Lou Meyer, Branford, Conn.; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Darrell and Joann Hoffmann, Bismarck; four foster sisters, Lizzie Reiner, Tillie Hafner, and Rusina Miller, all of Beulah, and Edna Ding, Stockton, Calif.; eight grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his foster parents; and his brothers and sisters.
Eva Larsen
Eva E. Larsen, 94, Mandan, died Feb. 12, 1997, at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue one hour before services at the church.
Eva E. Johnson was born Oct. 12, 1902, in Yucca, the daughter of Joseph and Elsie Mary (Steffenson) Johnson. She was educated in the Price and Mandan areas. Prior to her marriage to Alfred Larsen, Sept. 10, 1924, she worked in her father's store, Johnson Mercantile in Fort Clark. She and Alfred lived in Maddock until they moved to Mandan in 1960. Alfred died July 3, 1974. A quiet, gentle and giving lady, she will be remembered by some who survive her as being able to make a young child's storybook come alive and for her gifted way with growing things, particularly flowers.
Eva was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church, Mandan, and was a long-time member of American Legion Auxiliary in Maddock. She had been recognized for her many contributions to the auxiliary on a local and state level.
She is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lillian Martin, St. Helens, Ore., and Gladys and Frank Brazda, Mandan; two sisters-in-law, Beatrice Johnson, Center, and Florence Johnson, Cypress, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Bill and Alice Ereth, their families, and Dolly Vander Vorst.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Anna Johnson, Edith Karlgaard and Alice Johnson; and two brothers, Kenneth and Arthur.
The family prefers memorials to First Lutheran Church, Mandan, or the Anne Carlson School in Jamestown.
Anton 'Tony' Haider
Anton ``Tony" Haider, 89, Mandan, died Feb. 12, 1997, in the Mandan hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.
Anton was born Oct. 7, 1907, in St. Anthony, the son of George and Agnes (Haider) Haider. He attended school in the St. Anthony area and moved with his parents to Shields in 1923. In 1934, he and Dutch Upham built the Shields garage and he remained part owner and operator until he sold the business in 1945. He married Emma Wolfe, June 14, 1939, in McIntosh, S.D. Tony and Emma moved to Mandan in 1950, where he worked for Western Auto Co., Klein Motor Sales, Riedinger Motors, MBC Transmission and Bethke Body Shop. After his retirement in 1972, he worked part-time for Corral Sales and Service until 1986.
Throughout his life, he loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and having coffee with his coffee buddies.
He is survived by his wife, Emma; one daughter, Linda Haider, Burnsville, Minn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Linda, Bismarck, and Dennis and Cindy, Mandan; nine grandchildren, Rawley, Wendy, Melissa, Brad, Kristin, Cavin, Kelly, Hayley and Scott; five brothers, Mike, Mobridge, S.D., George, Denver, Andy, Colorado Springs, Colo., Arthur, Sandy, Ore., and Clemence, Portland, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Agnes, Elizabeth and Mary; and four brothers, Henry, Edwin, Lawrence and Richard.
Elizabeth 'Betty' Klein
CARRINGTON -- Elizabeth ``Betty" Klein, 68, Carrington, died Feb. 11, 1997, in North Fort Meyers, Fla. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington, with the Rev. Lawrence Haas officiating. Burial will be in Carrington Cemetery.
Mary Klein will serve as organist. Casket bearers will be her grandsons.
Elizabeth, known as Betty, was born Sept. 28, 1928, at rural Esmond, the daughter of Anton and Catherine (Gisi) Richter. She was raised near Esmond and in Selz, and attended high school at Harvey. Upon graduation she obtained her teaching certificate from Lake Region Junior College at Devils Lake. Betty then taught school for two years near Esmond. Betty was united in marriage to Christ Klein, June 7, 1948, at Selz. They first lived and farmed at Orrin. In 1956 they moved to their principle farm by New Rockford, where Betty specialized in caring and feeding for her 11 children and multiple hired farm workers. Chris and Betty purchased the Chieftain Motor Lodge in Carrington in 1974, which Betty managed until 1981. Betty and Chris retired to Carrington in 1984.
She is survived by her husband, Christ; six sons and five daughters-in-law, Gary and Connie, Gilby, Dale and Mary, and Frank and Lorie, all of Carrington, Mark, Fargo, Brian and Melody, Eagan, Minn., and Darren and Shelly, Creighton, Neb.; five daughters and sons-in-law, Carla and Denny Hagel, and Christy and Paul Reimer, all of Carrington, Charmain and Steve Romanoski, Sheboygan, Wis., Carol and Mike Birkeland, Tempe, Ariz., Colleen and Orin Gedrose, New Rockford; 25 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Peter, Minot; and two sisters, Mary Held, Selz, and Katherine Richter, St. Paul, Minn.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; three sisters; one son, Kallan; and one grandson, Neil.
Lorraine DeTenancour
BEACH -- Lorraine Marie DeTenancour, 49, Beach, died Feb. 12, 1997, in Bismarck. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Beach, with the Rev. David Morman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today and from 6 to 8 tonight, and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 tonight at the church.
Pallbearers will be Jim Muckle Jr., Ron Zachmann, Joel Maximer, Terry Egan, Mark Jandt and David Craigo.
Lorraine Helsper was born Dec. 26, 1947, in Beach, the daughter of Robert E. Helsper and Hilda Marie Granat. She was raised in Beach and attended Beach Public Schools, graduating in 1965. Lorraine then began working at the Golden Valley County Hospital as an accredited records technician until the hospital closed. For the past several years she has worked at the Flying J as accounting manager until she became ill. Lorraine was married to Clarence DeTenancour, April 29, 1967, at Chapel of the Home on the Range. Clarence died Jan. 31, 1993. Lorraine also was preceded in death by her father, Robert E. Helsper.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bern Zachmann, Beach; one son, Jim, and his friend, Tonya Oss, Fargo; two grandsons, Brady and Boston Zachmann, both of Beach; her mother, Hilda Helsper, Beach; her fiance, Wally Thompson, Beach; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Debra, Beach, and Tom and Kim, Decatur, Ala.; one sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Dave Jurgens, Belfield; seven nieces and nephews; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of friends.
