Arville Kitzman
MINOT -- Arville Kitzman, 80, Minot, died Dec. 13, 1996, in a Minot hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, with burial in Little Deep Cemetery, rural Upham.

He is survived by his wife, Erma; three sons, Leslie, Deering, Richard, Minot, and Jay, Beulah; three daughters, Patricia Mattern, Minot, Deborah Long, Bismarck, and Joan Brabandt, Underwood; two brothers, Stanley, Fargo, and Harvey, Upham; and two sisters, Ethel Walter, Minot, and Elaine Glinz, Newburg. Reid Hill
GARRISON -- Reid Hill, 67, Garrison, died Dec. 14, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital after a valiant six-week battle with cancer. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Garrison, with the Rev. Julie Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Garrison Cemetery, with military rites by Hugh P. Minehan American Legion Post No. 49, Garrison.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Thompson, Funeral Home, Garrison, and will continue at the church one hour before services.

Reid was born Dec. 17, 1928, at Garrison to Hilmer and Hazel (Johnson) Hill. He grew up in the Roseglen-Ryder area and was a graduate of Ryder High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1947. He served in the National Guard until 1959. He married Beverly Walters, Dec. 29, 1950, at Garrison. They spent their life together farming in the Emmet area.

He was a member of American Legion and served for several years as Emmet postmaster. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Emmet and served as a member of the church council.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly; four sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Marge, Menifee, Calif., James and Gerri, Watford City, Larry and Shelly, and Al and Linda, all of Bismarck; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Nick Kerzman, Bluffton, Minn., and Colleen and Dennis Walsh, Bismarck; his mother, Hazel Hill, Harvey; 13 grandchildren; and one sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Arlo Dockter, Anamoose.

He was preceded in death by his father; one sister; and two brothers.

Pallbearers will be Arlo Dockter, Curt Mehlhoff, Steve Dockter, Richard Hill, Richard Lien and Dave Dockter.

Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn and Arron Hill, Mike Kerzman and all relatives, neighbors and friends.

Alice Halvorson
REGAN -- Alice Halvorson, 96, Carrington, died Dec. 14, 1996, in the Carrington nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, with burial in Regan Cemetery.

She is survived by one brother, Raymond, Bismarck. (Evans Funeral Home, Carrington)

Benjamin Ulrich
Benjamin Ulrich, 94, Bismarck, died Dec. 14, 1996, in the Mandan nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 p.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Further arrangements are pending.

Lee Harsche
SELFRIDGE -- Lee R. Harsche, 27, Selfridge, died Dec. 12, 1996, due to injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident near Shields. Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Selfridge, with the Rev. Casimir Paluck officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, and will continue at the church one hour before services. A parish vigil will begin at 8 tonight at the church.

Lee was born Sept. 10, 1969, in McLaughlin, S.D., the son of Emmanuel and Kathleen (Landeis) Harsche Jr. He was raised and educated in the Selfridge area. On May 31, 1996, he married Joy Froelich at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan. Lee loved working with cattle and horses, he worked for area ranches and was employed by Becker ranch at the time of his death. He loved to listen and dance to country western music.

He is survived by his wife, Joy; one daughter, Kya, Selfridge; one son, Kol, Selfridge; his father, Emmanuel Jr., Rapid City, S.D.; his stepfather and mother, Jim and Kathleen Wetzel, Mandan; his grandparents, Emmanuel Harsche Sr., Shields, and Wanda Browne, Bismarck, and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Landeis, Mobridge, S.D.; one brother, Tracy Harsche, Rapid City; and one sister and brother-in-law, Shelly and Ivan Alyea, Bismarck.

Geraldine Bornhoeft
FLASHER -- Geraldine M. Bornhoeft, 73, Mandan, formerly of Flasher, died Dec. 12, 1996, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Dale Carmen officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Geraldine was born Jan. 3, 1923, at St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Peter and Anna (Brien) Kreidermacher. She grew up in Mineiska, Minn., and graduated from Winona High School in 1940. She attended hairstyling school in Minneapolis and worked as a secretary in Milwaukee and Boston before her marriage to Emil Bornhoeft in September 1945. They lived for several years in Minneapolis and then moved to Flasher where they farmed from 1947 to 1972. Emil died in 1991. She worked until 1987 as a secretary for the Flasher Public School. This employment gave her great pleasure. Geraldine enjoyed bowling, but time spent with her grandchildren was most important to her. She lived in Mandan for a number of years until becoming a resident of St. Vincent's Nursing Home in Bismarck a month prior to her death.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William and Maureen, Flasher; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy and Roger Heidinger, Hawley, Minn., and Doris Bornhoeft, Grand Forks; three grandchildren, Jon and Mandi Bornhoeft and Matt Heidinger and his special friend, Glenda; and one great-granddaughter, Madison Bohlken.

Harry Sandau
Harry David Sandau, 56, Mandan, died Dec. 15, 1996, in his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight and after 3 p.m. Wednesday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services.

Harry was born Sept. 11, 1940, in Elgin, the son of Leonard and Helen (Friesz) Sandau. They lived on the family farm until 1952 when they moved to Mandan. He married Judith Ann Hulm, Sept. 17, 1960, in Mandan. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and was self-employed. In his younger days he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In later days he enjoyed flea markets, poker and pinochle and traveling.

He was a member of Mandan Elks.

He is survived by his wife, Judith; two daughters, Kim Marie Sandau, Banning, Calif., and Francine Marie Pavilionis, Billings, Mont.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Perry David and Lisa (Schlickenmeyer), and Terry Ray and LaVern, all of Mandan, and Jerry Allen and Teri, California; 11 grandchildren, Samantha, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Aspen, Katie, Nicole, Broke, Alicia, Cole, Darold and Sara; one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Virginia, Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Dorothy Fix, Bismarck; and special friends, Shelly Goldstein, Gus Ereth, Mike Wilson and Don Sadler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister and brother; one infant son; one infant grandson; and one brother-in-law, Louis Fix.

Dorothy Stevens
WATFORD CITY -- Dorothy H. Stevens, 74, Watford City, died Dec. 14, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Watford City. Dorothy's ashes will be scattered at a later date.

Dorothy was married to Donald Stevens, Sept. 18, 1945, in Sidney, Mont. She was the owner of Stevens' Greenhouse in Watford City for 30 years. She had worked for the War Department in Washington, D.C., and in the shipyards in Seattle during World War II. She worked for the Navy Department until the end of the war.

She was a charter member of the Friendly 15 Homemakers Club in Watford City.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Wayne, Sarasota, Fla., and Larry and Connie, Kitty Hawk, N.C.; one grandson, Zachary, Gainesville, Fla.; and two sisters, Elaine Rydiger, Grand Junction, Colo., and Shirley Davidson, Devils Lake.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to American Cancer Society. (Bismarck Funeral Home)

Benjamin Ulrich
Benjamin Ulrich, 94, 901 E. Bowen Ave., died Dec. 14, 1996, in a Bismarck nursing home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, with burial in Ellendale Cemetery. The Rev. Ray Kelsch will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Benjamin was born June 30, 1902, near Ashley, the son of George and Katherine Ulrich. He married Magdalena Jerke, Nov. 1, 1928, in Ashley. They farmed south of Ashley. In 1934 they moved to Lodi, Calif., where Ben worked as a carpenter and Magdalena worked in a cannery. They retired in 1967. They returned to Bismarck in August 1993.

He is survived by one brother, Rudolph; one sister, Tillie Leicht; and 33 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; four brothers; one sister; and six nieces and nephews.

Vivian Jacobson
LEEDS -- Vivian F. Jacobson, 88, Leeds, died Dec. 11, 1996, in the Devils Lake nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Leeds Lutheran Church, with burial in Lebanon Cemetery, rural Brinsmade.

She is survived by three sons, Lane and Dean, both of Grand Forks, and Gary, Bismarck; and one sister, Lois Saunders, Bottineau. (Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake)

Thomas Bond
WATFORD CITY -- Thomas Bond, 78, Watford City, died Dec. 14, 1996, in the Williston hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Watford City Wesleyan Church. Further arrangements are pending at Fulkerson Funeral Home, Watford City.

Donna Oelrich
HILLSBORO -- Donna Oelrich, 46, Hillsboro, died Dec. 13, 1996, in a Fargo hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, Hillsboro, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Hillsboro.

She is survived by her husband, Gene; one daughter, Melissa Kozojed, Hillsboro; one son, Robert, Hillsboro; her parents, John and Mary Salo, Hillsboro; two sisters, Shirley Ackerman and Doris Bakken, both of Hillsboro; and one brother, David, Sturgeon Bay, Wis. (Wildeman Funeral Home, Hillsboro)

John Dewald
BEULAH -- John Dewald, 87, Beulah, died Dec. 14, 1996, in the Hazen hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. MST Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Tillie; and one sister, Anna Jones, Santa Anna, Calif. (Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah)

FREDONIA -- Lydia Lang, 78, Fredonia, died Dec. 15, 1996, in the Ashley nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ashley Baptist Church, Ashley. Further arrangements are pending at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley.

DICKINSON -- Regina Tietz, 83, Dickinson, died Dec. 16, 1996, in a Dickinson nursing home. Arrangements are pending at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Stella Uhlman
Stella Uhlman, 102, Mandan, died Dec. 17, 1996, in the Mandan nursing home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan.

Stella was born Dec. 17, 1894, at New Salem, the eldest of 12 children born to William and Ida (Suppnick) Frederick. She grew up on the family farm near Flasher and attended schools in the area. She married George Uhlman in Mandan on July 5, 1921. They lived in Mandan and raised their family there. For many years Stella operated a greenhouse in her yard on Third St. S.W., selling vegetables and flowering plants. Her garden was her pride and joy. She also enjoyed crocheting and baking for her many grandchildren. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Altar Guild, American Legion Auxiliary, Mandan Homemakers Club and American War Mothers.

She is survived by one daughter, Marietta Mundy, Overland Park, Kan.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon and Rose, Las Vegas, and Wally and Pat, Mandan; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, who died March 26, 1968; one son, Norman; and 11 brothers and sisters.

The family prefers memorials to First Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Daniel Waldera
Daniel A. Waldera, 42, 705 Fifth Ave. N.W., Mandan, died Dec. 15, 1996, in his home after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with burial in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Daniel was born Aug. 1, 1954, in Britton, S.D. He was the son of Harris and Elaine (Parrow) Waldera. Daniel spent his childhood living with his family at Havana and Edgeley. He entered Grafton State School in 1967. After leaving Grafton, Daniel lived in Valley City and worked at the Open Door Center. In 1987, he moved to Bismarck-Mandan and worked at Pride Inc. and the Ruth Meiers House. Dan was a hard worker who gave it his all until his illness made it impossible for him to continue. Even though Daniel had many tough breaks in his life he did his absolute best until the very end. Daniel loved sports of all kinds. He loved participating in Special Olympics Track and Field, Softball, Basketball and Bowling events. He was extremely proud of the dozens of metals, ribbons and trophies that he won over the years. Daniel was a life-long fan of all pro-sporting events and the local sports events that he attended. He was a great fan of his brother, sister, brother-in-law, and cousins' softball teams. He also enjoyed watching his nephews little league baseball games. His never ending support at these events will always be missed.

In passing, Daniel will be forever missed by his loving parents, Harris and Elaine Waldera, Mandan; his brother, Paul, Mandan; his sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Steve Berger, St. Anthony; and his three beloved nephews, Stephen Jr., Timothy and Michael Berger. He also leaves his many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends whose kindness, caring and understanding will be forever appreciated.

Daniel was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emil and Gladys Waldera, Arthur Parrow, Anna Parrow McLaughlin, and his step-grandfather, Harley McLaughlin; his uncles, Donald, Darryl and Clarence Waldera; and his cousins, Keith and David Parrow.

Daniel was a very special person who greatly touched the lives of all who knew and loved him. He was blessed with the unconditional love of so very many people. Daniel will be dearly missed by us all.
