Ann Grinsteinner
Ann Grinsteinner, 80, a resident at the Marian Manor Healthcare Center, Glen Ullin and formerly of Hebron, died Saturday, July 8 at the Marian Manor.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. CT at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Hebron. The Rev. Sebastian Schmidt, OSB will officiate.
Visitation will be Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.
Burial will be in the St. Ann Cemetery, Hebron.
Ann was born September 4, 1925 in Dickinson, ND, a daughter of Henry and Katherine (Bergmann) Burger.
She was raised and educated in the New England area. The family then moved to a ranch north of Hebron.
Following the death of her mother, Ann cared for the other children in the family.
She married Joe Grinsteinner July 10, 1944 in Hebron.
Following their marriage they farmed south of Dodge until 1958 when they moved into Hebron.
Ann loved to bake and share her baked goods with everyone. She also enjoyed crocheting.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the St. Ann Christian Mothers.
Joe died February 8, 1992.
Ann entered the Marian Manor Healthcare Center in Glen Ullin in June, 2002.
Those left to share the legacy of her love include four sons - Ken (Geri), Bismarck, Robert (Audrey), Mandan, Jim, Bismarck and Scott, Hebron and three daughters - Jan (Clayton) Carter, Hebron, JoAnn (Clayton) Schultz, New Salem, ND and Bev (Wayne) Petri, Hebron.
She also leaves 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Other survivors include a brother, George Burger, Dickinson and a sister, Emma Tuhy, Wahpeton, ND and her half brothers - Joseph Burger, Tommy Burger and Henry Burger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Frank and Tony and sisters Katherine, Magdalena, Mary and Tillie.
Spangelo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Rex Winterroth
Rex Winterroth, 52, New Market, MN and formerly of Dickinson, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at Fairview Ridge Hospital, Burnsville, MN following a short bout with cancer.
His funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006 at the St. John Church in Hebron with the Rev. Herbert Schauer officiating.
Burial was in the First Baptist Cemetery, Hebron.
Rex Allen Winterroth was born February 11, 1954 to Ervin and Myra in Bismarck, ND.
His younger years were spent working on the farm with his brothers. He attended school in Hebron and Glen Ullin where he always took pride in his perfect attendance record. He never missed a day of school and that was his hardcore work ethic that was already showing.
He met his best friend and future wife, Diane Hausauer, in 1971. They married October 6, 1973 at the St. John United Church of Christ, Hebron, ND.
On September 17, 1974 Rex and Diane welcomed Bobbi Jo into the world. Rex started working for Portney Construction and in June, 1975, began trucking for Hoovestal Trucking, driving truck over 48 states and Canada.
Rex hauled everything from beer to bees. He later moved his family to Dickinson.
Rusty Allen was born August 25, 1981. Rex loved spending time with his two grandchildren, Alec and Lily Jo.
During Rex’s life he enjoyed many activities. He was an avid bowler and won many trophies and prizes. In 1999 Rex and Diane moved to Minnesota where he started working for Major Transport.
Rex enjoyed spending time in his boat on the lake, fishing. He loved to dance and had a zest for life. You could usually find Rex and Diane at the Red Fox on Friday night for ribs and a twirl around the dance floor. In some way he touched every person he met. He was loved by so many and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Rex is survived by his wife of 32 years, Diane, a daughter Bobbi (Ron) Birkholz, Prior Lake, MN and a son Rusty, Farmington, MN.
He also leaves his grandchildren Alec and Lily Jo, his father, Ervin and wife Rosie Winterroth and mother Myra Winterroth.
Other survivors include four brothers - Russell (Pam), Merle (Vicki), Monty (Joanne), Jerry (Alicia) and his sister June (Dan) Jeziorski, four nephews, seven nieces, his-in-laws - Alex and Irene Hausauer, Paulette and Gary Elder and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family suggests memorials to the "Rex Winterroth Safest Miles Driven Award", % Dakota Community Bank, Box 341, Hebron, ND 58638.

Bill Schweigert
William "Bill" Schweigert, 96, a resident of the Evergreen Inn, Dickinson and formerly of Hebron, died Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at the Evergreen.
A family service was held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 8 at the Spangelo Funeral Home in Hebron. Burial followed at the St. John Cemetery in Hebron with military rites by the Henry Biffert American Legion Post #100.
A memorial service was then held at the St. John Church at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Martin Nussbaum officiating.
William was born July 28, 1910 in Karlsruhe, Germany, a son of Hebron pioneers Fred and Lydia (Ewald) Schweigert.
He was raised and educated in Hebron. Following graduation from high school he attended Elmhurst College in Illinois and later received his Bachelor of Art Degree from Dickinson Normal School.
He taught school for a number of years in the Hebron and Elgin areas. He was drafted into the US Army March 8, 1941.
Bill served with the 188th Field Artillery during the allied invasion and was injured on the beaches of Normandy, France during the D-Day invasion.
He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Following his discharge September 30, 1945 he returned to the states and worked for the postal service.
Bill then worked for the welfare department in the State of Montana until his retirement. He then moved back to Hebron to be with his elderly mother.
Bill was a kind and gracious man who was much respected by his family and friends.
While in Hebron he was an active member of the St. John Church, a member of the church choir for many years and the American Legion. He was recently presented with a 50-year membership pin from the Henry Biffert American Legion Post 100.
In 1993 Bill moved to the Evergreen Inn in Dickinson.
He is survived by his brother Frederick Schweigert, Solvang, CA and his sister Alma Barton, Greenville, SC. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews who loved him as "Uncle Bill".
His parents, two brothers Walter and Paul and a sister Hedwig Reimer preceded him in death.

Evelyn Fischer
Evelyn Fischer, 85, Glen Ullin, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 7 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt OSB, as celebrant.
Evelyn was born September 20, 1921 at Stayton, OR, a daughter of Marcelinus and Elizabeth (Bollinger) Ruscheinsky.
In 1929 her family moved to a farm near Brisbane, ND where Evelyn grew up and was educated. She worked on the farm until her marriage to Joseph Fischer January 2, 1946.
Following their marriage they lived on a number of places while Joe worked on construction.
In the mid-1950’s they moved to Glen Ullin where Joe was employed by Frank Doll.
Evelyn took care of the household. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading and playing cards but her real fun was going fishing.
Evelyn and Joe loved to fish in tournaments. Evelyn earned a Whopper Walleye Patch when she caught a 13 lb. 11 oz. walleye.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Christian Mothers.
She is survived by a daughter Carol (Mike) Hoerauf, Glen Ullin, ND and sons John (Bonnie), Bismarck, ND and Jim (Connie), Wenatchee, WA.
She leaves six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, a brother Frank (Harriet) Ruscheinsky, Portland, OR and four sisters-in-law - Florence and Monica Ruscheinsky, Portland, OR, Ann Finck, Mott, Eva Petrasek, Bismarck and Emily Seibert, Billing, MT.
Her parents, husband Joe on July 14, 1991, a grandson Brad, five brothers Pete, Joe, Ralph, Emanuel, Johnny and two sisters, Kay and Amelia, preceded her in death.

Irene Schantz
Irene Schantz, 74, Glen Ullin, died Monday, September 25, 2006 at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, September 29, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt OSB as Celebrant.
Burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Glen Ullin.
Irene was born September 8, 1932 on the family farm near St. Anthony, ND. She was raised on the farm and attended St. Anthony School.
She worked as a waitress in a restaurant in Mandan.
She married Eugene Schantz, September 28, 1953 at Mandan. Following their marriage they farmed near Lemmon, SD until 1960 when they bought a farm near Glen Ullin.
Irene was a devoted mother to her ten children and a second mother to the children she took in and provided day care for as well as the foreign exchange students that lived with them.
When they were all grown she worked outside the home at the Crossroads Express.
Irene had a passion for music. She played piano in an orchestra when she was a young girl and continued playing throughout her life.
She was a member of the Christian Mothers, a past member of the Sacred Heart Choir and enjoyed playing bingo, bridge, Bonco and Scrabble and getting together with friends for coffee.
In her spare time Irene kept busy and enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and preparing great meals. Irene was a woman of good humor, and her infectious laugh caused others to laugh with her.
Those remaining to share the legacy of her love include her husband, Eugene, Glen Ullin; four daughters - Debra (Gerald) Sebastian, Hebron; Brenda Maloney, Coloma, MI; Pam (Russ) Walter, Keensburg, CO and Donna Schantz, Medina, NY and her six sons - Roger (Sheila), Sheldon, Allen (Colleen), Douglas (Kolina), all of Glen Ullin; Jerry (Brenda), Hebron, ND and Bill, Parker, CO.
She also leaves 15 grandchildren - Gwen and Garrett Sebastian, Kristy and Tyrell Maloney, Nicole Schantz, Brandon and Barry Schantz, Kari Billman, Sara and Riley Schantz, Dakota, Dusty, and Dallas Schantz and Casey and Cody Schantz and a special great grandchild Caden Schneider.
Irene is survived by her brothers - Clarence and Kenny Bender, both of Billings, MT and Gerald Bender, New Ulm, MN and her sisters - Stella Eisenbarth, Elgin; Evelyn Phellps, Bismarck; Dolores Scott, Forsyth, MT; Phyllis Birkes, Tigard, OR and Annette Braun, Mandan and countless friends.
Her parents and four brothers - Leonard, Leo, Urban, and Vernon preceded her in death.
