Burton Bettschen
Burton L. Bettschen, 87, 215 E. Arbor Ave., Bismarck, formerly of Arthur, died Aug. 6, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, Arthur, with burial in Arthur Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ivers-Landblom Funeral Home, Fargo.
Burton L. Bettschen was born Nov. 29, 1908, in Arthur, the son of John and Alma (Schur) Bettschen. He grew up and attended school in Arthur, where he graduated from high school. He attended a year of business college in Minneapolis. He met and later married Lillian M. Klagos Oct. 14, 1933, in Moorhead, Minn. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Arthur. During the Depression Era, Burt had his own band and he and his friends played for dances around the area. Like his father, Burt's primary instrument was the slide trombone. Burt enjoyed music of all kinds, and he especially enjoyed polka time on the weekend radio. During his lifetime, Burt worked as a farmhand, a grain elevator employee, a car salesman, owned his own grocery store, was a musical instrument salesman, a handyman for the Coca-Cola Bottling Co., and a 30-year U.S. Postal Service employee from 1938 until his retirement in 1968. Burt lived in Grand Forks from 1940 until he moved to Fargo in 1980. In 1986 he moved back to Arthur. His wife, Lillian, preceded him in death on July 19, 1987. He moved back to Fargo in 1990, where he lived until 1993 when he moved to Bismarck to be near his daughter, Patricia. Burt lived according to the Golden Rule. Burt considered his most important achievements the raising of a family, the making of friends and living a happy and healthy life.
Burt was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Arthur; Fargo Eagles Aerie No. 153; and a 50-year member of Fargo Elks Lodge No. 260. He was a Mason and a Shriner and was a member of Masonic Lodge and Kem Temple in Grand Forks.
Burt is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Ron Dietz, Bismarck; one sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and W.R. Braseth, Fargo; two granddaughters, Christine Graf, Topeka, Kan., and Terri Dietz, Fargo; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian; and one sister, Frances Arvold.
Catherine Londo
Catherine "Katie" Londo, 80, Wakefield, Mich., died July 27, 1996, in Ironwood, Mich. Services were July 30 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wakefield, with the Rev. Allan Mayotte officiating. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
Catherine was born March 19, 1916, to Simon and Matilda (Mosbrucker) Schmidt at Center. She attended school at Center. She was employed at the Gogebic Medical Facility for 13 years in the physical therapy department.
Catherine was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharist minister, and was a member of the church women's group. She was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
She had lived at Wakefield since 1940, coming from Center. On June 9, 1941, she married Lawrence Londo at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence; five sons and daughters-in-law, Roger L. and Lynn, Hibbing, Minn., David P. and JoAnn, Windlake, Wis., Charles A. and Frances, Dundee, Mich., Eugene A. and Nancy, Marquette, and Lawrence H. and Jan, Norway, Mich.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonita K. and Larry Sparks, and Joan M. and John Gray, all of Marquette; two brothers, George Schmidt, Mandan, and Pete Schmidt, Bismarck; two sisters, Margaret Heinz, Bismarck, and Rose Erhardt, Mandan; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Darold J.; two grandchildren, Bryan Geoffrey and Rebecca Anne Londo; three brothers, Rudolph, Christ and Matthew Schmidt; and two sisters, Frances Ehlis and Anne Berger.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Londo Jr., Michael Londo, Darold Londo, Dean Londo, Roger Londo Jr., Douglas Londo, Chris Wolf and Justin Gray.
Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Londo, Greg Londo, Bradley Londo and Jeffery Sparks.
Doris Mowder
Doris Colleen Mowder, 57, Menhaga, Minn., died of cancer Aug. 1, 1996, at her home. Services were Aug. 5 at Assumption of Our Lady Catholic Church, Menhaga.
She is survived by her husband, Harold; two sons, Wesley, Park Rapids, Minn., and Keith, Ashville, N.C.; two daughters, Michelle Newhouse, Wolf Lake, Minn., and Melinda Schwartz, Menhaga; four brothers, Russell, Donald and Virgil, all of Bismarck, and Paul, Washburn; and three sisters, Patricia Backer, Mandan, Beva Jean Hoffman, Bismarck, and La Verne Weber, Seattle.
Gordon Haugen
Gordon D. Haugen, 60, Mandan, died Aug. 6, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, with burial in Stone Cemetery, rural Mandan.

Richard Dean Bruns, 62, Cove Way, Neb., died Aug. 4, 1996, at his home. A memorial service will be in Marietta, Ga., and a graveside service at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Crete, at a later date.
He is survived by his daughter, Brooke, Roswell, Ga.; one son, Devon, Dallas, Ga.; one sister, Marie Murray, Redondo Beach, Calif.; and one brother, Robert, Black River Falls, Wis.

Cory ``Chief" Bruning, 18, 505 Second Ave. N.W., Mandan, died Aug. 7, 1996, in a Minot hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Solen.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish rosary will be said at 7 tonight, followed by a parish vigil at 7:30. Cory was born Jan. 23, 1978, in Bismarck. He was raised and educated in Mandan, and was a student at Mandan High School.
He is survived by his stepfather and mother, Charles and Rosemarie (Bruning) Schacher, Mandan; his grandparents, Gerald and Irene Bruning, Bismarck; one brother, Gerald, Bismarck; and one sister, Carmen Schacher, Mandan.
Rev. Albert Wetzel
The Rev. Albert Wetzel, 74, 2820 Gateway Ave., died Aug. 7, 1996, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bismarck Baptist Church, with the Revs. Bill Keple and Wes Gerber officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Beulah Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Boelter Funeral Home, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Albert was born Jan. 11, 1922, the son of Peter O. and Clara (Kroh) Wetzel, on the family homestead between Glen Ullin and New Salem. He received his education there. Albert married Erma Scheck in June 1944. She died in January 1968. Albert was ordained at the Baptist Church in Minneapolis in 1953. He attended Northwestern College in Roseville, Minn., from 1950 to 1953, and Dickinson State Teachers College from 1954 to 1955. He then graduated from Northwestern College in 1956. Albert received his master of philosophy and doctor of divinity degrees from the American Bible Institute, Kansas City, Mo. in 1977 to 1978. For more than 30 years he served in education and ministry, serving as superintendent of Werner and Barton schools and elementary principal in Minatare, Neb., and teaching junior high school in Beulah. His ministry included time at the Congregational Church, Manning, the Baptist Church at Harvey, Congregational churches at Turtle Lake, Underwood and Beulah, Bayard, Neb., and Sidney, Mont., the Baptist Church at Tioga, and Congregational churches at Sparta, Wis., and Burlington, Colo. Albert married Rosemary Schwede, Sept. 1, 1968.
Albert is survived by his wife, Rosemary; four daughters and sons-in-law, LaDonna and Morris Grosz, Goodridge, Minn., Wanda and Michael McDonough-Lee, Kittery Point, Me., Kayleen and Michael Vieburg, Bloomington, Minn., and Julie and Edward Doench, Bismarck; one son, Richard, Bismarck; one sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Erwin Neumann, Lewiston, Idaho; one brother and sister-in-law, The Rev. Arthur and Esther Wetzel, Willard, Mont.; and eight grandchildren, Jonathan, Peter and Steven Grosz, Mati McDonough, Jesse Lee, Andrew McDonough-Lee, Elizabeth Vieburg and Chelsea Doench.
In addition to his first wife, Erma, he was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and two brothers.
Margaret Moser
Margaret M. Moser, 87, Medcenter One Care Center, Mandan, died Dec. 8, 1996, in the nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan. Burial will be in the Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a parish vigil will be at 7-30 p.m.
Margaret Anderst was born June 17, 1909, in Glen Ullin, the daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth (Schafer) Anderst. She was raised and educated in Glen Ullin and Missoula, Mont. She married Anton J. Moser Feb. 3, 1930, in Mandan.
Margaret was a member of American Legion Auxiliary where she held a Degree of Honor.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Helen, Mandan; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia and Ken Hermanson, Dolores Rowe, and Bunny and Gary Greig, all of Mandan; one former daughter-in-law, Helen Moser; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anton, who died Aug. 17, 1993; three brothers, Bill, Thomas and John; and two sisters, Viola Moffett and Susie McGuire.
Milton Klein
ELGIN -- Milton Klein, 74, Elgin, died Dec. 7, 1996, in the Mott nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. MST Wednesday, at Hope Conservative Congregational Church, Elgin, with the Rev. Bill Bradley officiating. Burial will be in Neuberg Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers will be Milton's cousins, Vernon and Russell Dittus, Alvin, Edmund and Leslie Klein and Alvin Maier.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home, Elgin, and will continue one hour before services at the church.
Milton Klein was born Aug. 21, 1922, in Willa, Odessa Township, to John and Bertha (Dittus) Klein. He grew up on the family homestead north of Burt. He attended country schools and worked on the farm with his family. He married Ida Roth Nov. 18, 1945, at Johanesthol Congregational Church. They made their home on the family homestead. Milton loved his work as a farmer and rancher. He and Ida moved into Elgin in 1972, and Milton continued to farm and ranch. Ida passed from this life on May 23, 1978. Milton retired in 1990. He entered the Good Samaritan Center in Mott three weeks before he passed away.
Milton loved his life's work in agriculture, sharing time with family and friends, driving around Elgin, eating at Our Place Cafe and visiting his son, Milt, and customers at Milt's Building Supply in Elgin. He especially enjoyed sharing time with his great-grandson, Nathan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Milt M. and Marie Klein, Elgin; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Timm, Laramie, Wyo.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Nita and Edmund Bertsch and Eleanor Harsh, all of Mott; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Louisa Hirning, Mott; Frida Bennett, Grandview, Wash., Hilda and Esther Zimmerman, both of New Leipzig, and Paul and Phyllis Roth, Elgin; one great-aunt, Alvina Dittus, Glen Ullin; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ida; and one granddaughter.
