David Prochnow
David L. Prochnow, 66, Erhard, Minn., formerly of Hankinson, died July 24, 1996, in a Fergus Falls, Minn., hospital. A memorial service was held July 26 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, with burial in Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; two sons, David, Prior Lake, Minn., and Mark, St. Cloud, Minn.; three daughters, Marcy Borchart, Prior Lake, Nancy Edquist, Chaska, Minn., and Mari Gattenby, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Dennis and Collin; and one sister, Joan Gifford.
Alexander Romanov
Alexander Michael "Sasha" Romanov, 16, Sugar Land, Texas, formerly of Dallas and Mamaroneck, N.Y., died Aug. 1, 1996. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Laurence Parish, Sugar Land, with burial in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
Alexander was born June 29, 1980, in Bismarck, and had attended Hommocks Middle School in Mamoroneck and Green Hill School in Dallas. Alexander had completed his freshman year at Clements High School in Sugar Land, where he was active with the basketball team and the tennis program, having won several Houston-area tennis championships.
He is survived by his parents, Alexander Romanov and Jane Fleck Romanov; his grandmother, Justine "Rusty" Fleck, Bismarck; his grandparents, Vasily and Lydia Romanov, Carmel, N.Y.; two uncles, Joel Fleck, Burke, Va., and Harry Boyce, Maybee, Mich.; four aunts, Barbara Fleck Boyce, Maybee, Laura Romanov Plastini, Carmel, Connie Werner Fleck, Burke, Va., and Florence Romanov, Wilton, Conn.; cousins, Jennifer Fleck Fredericks, Michael Fleck, Ben, Beth and Suzanna Boyce, Larissa and Nickolai Plastini and Peter Romanov.

Russel Kohn
Russel Kohn, 87, Mandan, died Aug. 2, 1996, in the Mandan nursing home. There will be no visitation or funeral service at the request of the deceased. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Calumet, Mich.
Russel was born July 1, 1909, in Mohawk, Mich., a son of George and Cora (Saam) Kohn. The family later moved to Palmer, Mich., where he attended local schools and was a graduate of Negaunee High School and Michigan Technological University of Houghton. He was married to Mae Bant, July 17, 1937, in Calumet. Russel began his career in the iron ore mining industry as a mechanical engineer with the Pickands Mather in Duluth, Minn. During most of World War II he worked for Lake Shore Engineering in shipbuilding on the East Coast, transferring to Iron Mountain, Mich., in 1944. He rejoined Pickands Mather in 1946 on Minnesota's Mesabi Iron Range where he held a succession of engineering and management positions, including superintendency of the Erie Taconite Plant. In 1959 he was named resident manager of operations for Marcona Mining at San Juan, Peru. From 1964-1967, he was resident manager at Port Hedland, Western Australia, overseeing projects for Cypress Mining, Utah Construction and Mount Goldworthy of London.
He and his wife moved to Mandan in 1967. Russel continued to work as a part-time engineering consultant for Brown and Root of Houston, until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of Mandan First Presbyterian Church, El Zagal Shrine, Masonic Lodge of Biwabik, Minn., Good Sam Club and Foretravel Family Motorhome Association. He enjoyed repairing his motorhome even more than traveling in it.
He is survived by his wife, Mae; one daughter, Mary Allison Schirado, Mandan; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Gertrude Kohn, Chapel Hill, N.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Verona Wentz
Services for Verona L. Wentz, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Minn. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and will continue at the church one hour before services.
Verona Leona Wentz, the daughter of Jacob and Martha (Hoffer) Wentz, was born May 29, 1927, at Streeter. At an early age she moved with her family to Fargo where she completed her education. For 20 years Verona worked as a housekeeper in Fargo. In 1968 she began working in the Environmental Services Department at Dakota Hospital in Fargo and retired from there in 1992.
Verona died Aug. 4, 1996, in a Fargo hospital at the age of 69.
She had been a longtime member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Verona is survived by her mother, Martha Wentz, Fargo.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Irvin Riedman
Irvin M. Riedman, 80, Bismarck, died Aug. 4, 1996, at his home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service. Further arrangements are pending.
Sydna Sheldon
Sydna B. Sheldon, 92, Bismarck, died Aug. 3, 1996, in the Garrison hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with the Rev. Bill Keple officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Sydna Owens was born May 13, 1904, in Rolette County, the daughter of Robert and Anna (Thomas) Owens. She was raised in Rolette County, and graduated from Cando High School in 1924. She attended Bethany Seminary in Chicago. She returned to North Dakota, and while visiting her sister, she met her first husband, Wilbur C. Berry. They were married Dec. 1, 1925, in Moorhead, Minn. They farmed at Sarles on Mr. Berry's family homestead. Wilbur Berry died in 1942. Sydna and her children moved to Chicago where she worked for the Chicago Board of Education. She returned to Grand Forks and worked at the university as a housemother from 1948-1959.
Sydna married John Sheldon in June 1959, and they continued to live in Grand Forks until 1975, when they moved to Garrison. In 1980 they moved to Bismarck. John died in October 1985. Sydna moved to Garrison in 1993, where she has resided since.
She was active in the Women's Christian Temperance Union in Grand Forks.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Emil C. "Stub" Stern, Garrison; one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Margot Berry, Gold River, Calif.; two stepsons, Kenneth Sheldon, Shenandoah, Iowa, and Dr. Jack Sheldon, San Diego; two stepdaughters and one stepson-in-law, Shirley Sheldon, Mesa, Ariz., and Velda and John Chase, San Diego; 23 grandchildren, including Kelly Berry, Kendall Berry Morlan, Barbara Burgum Lee, Susan Burgum Fugere and K.C. Burgum; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, the Rev. Everett C.H. Owens, Fort Wayne, Ind.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.

Peter Wickenheiser
STRASBURG -- Peter M. Wickenheiser, 67, Rapid City, S.D., died Aug. 4, 1996, in the Linton hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Strasburg, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; three brothers, Michael and William, both of Linton, and Tony, Pelican Rapids, Minn.; and six sisters, Phyllis Feist, Milwaukee, Johanna Schneider, Strasburg, Luella Nagel, Bismarck, Sister Andre Wickenheiser, St. Paul, Minn., Adeline Nagel, Bismarck, and Carol Bosch, Linton. Roger Dahlstrom
MILNOR -- Roger D. Dahlstrom, 68, Milnor, died Aug. 6, 1996, in the Oakes hospital.
Roger was born Feb. 4, 1928, at Lisbon, the son of Carl and Ida (Bott) Dahlstrom. He grew up in Lisbon where he attended school, graduating from Lisbon High School in 1947.
As a youth he started his funeral service career, working for Lozier Funeral Home in Lisbon. Following his graduation he entered the mortuary science program at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He graduated in 1949 and returned to Lisbon, where he worked for his brother Dale for a short time. He entered the U.S. Army in 1950 and served in Germany for several years in the Army Medical Corp during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge in 1952, he returned to Minneapolis where he worked for Gleason Mortuary for several years. He was united in marriage to Florence M. Johnson June 27, 1954, at Lisbon. They lived in Minneapolis until January 1957, when they moved to Milnor and started Dahlstrom Funeral Home. In 1960 he started a local clothing store and added a furniture business in 1967, known as Dahlstrom Clothing and Furniture. He sold the business in 1980. Roger also operated an ambulance service in conjunction with the funeral home until 1972. He was elected Sargent County Coroner in 1958 and served in that position until 1995. He was also elected president of North Dakota Funeral Directors Association in 1971 after serving nine years on the board of governors. He was appointed to the North Dakota State Board of Funeral Service in 1982, where he served until 1990. In 1986 Roger and his son Mark purchased the Haugen-Baldwin Funeral Homes at Oakes and LaMoure, where he was active for many years. In 1992 he sold his interest in Dahlstrom Funeral Home to his son Mark, but continued to work on a part-time basis. Roger and Florence have made their home in Mesa, Ariz., during the winter months for many years.
Roger served on numerous local and state organizations and boards. He was a member of Milnor Lutheran Church and served on the church council as well as serving as president of Milnor Lutheran Cemetery for many years. He was a charter member of Milnor Swimming Pool Association and Milnor Golf Association. He was a past board member of St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, Minn., and chairman of the Milnor Clinic project. A lifetime member of the local Smith-Thune American Legion Post No. 148, he served as commander and was a member of Gibbon-Miller Memorial VFW Post No. 9069. He was a member of Milnor Fire Department, and served as chief for five years. He was a board member of Milnor Improvement Association, Milnor Community Housing Inc., Milnor Community Development Corporation and Milnor Spirit Corporation. He also belonged to the Milnor Businessman's Club, Anchor Lodge No. 25, where he was master, and was a member of El Zagal Shrine Temple and the local Viking Shrine Club. In 1982 he received the Milnor Satellite Club's ``Galaxie Award," as Citizen of the Year for his contributions to the community. Roger will be remembered for his love of his profession and his wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Sheri, Wishek, and Mark and Dani, Oakes; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Scott Maltese, Minneapolis; five grandchildren, Kristin and Andy Richards, Minneapolis, Colette and Matthew Dahlstrom, Jamestown, and Adam and Kari Dahlstrom, Oakes; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Clifford and his companion, Gloria, Poulsbo, Wash., and Wayne and Naomi, Helena, Mont.; and a special friend and associate, Brian and Paula Tayor, and Briana, Milnor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dale and Curt.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Milnor Lutheran Church, with the Revs. David Isaacson and Harold Vold officiating. Burial will be in Milnor Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Milnor.
Pallbearers will be Gene Holmgren, Ray Carlson, Charles Ellefson, Harold Johnson, Duane Tayer and Art Christiansen Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and all friends.
Special music will be provided by Garth Zieman, organist, with solo selections by Ray Schnell, Ben Nelson and Patty Ellefson.
Irvin Riedman
Irvin M. Riedman, 80, Bismarck, died Aug. 4, 1996, at his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Revs. Magnus Lutness and Richard Owens officiating. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, rural Mandan, with military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1326.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Eastgate Funeral Service.
Irv was born July 28, 1916, in Skandia Township near Valley City, the son of George and Inga Riedman. He was raised and educated in Barnes and Cass counties. He married Maxine Rudow July 17, 1940. He served in the U.S. Marines in the Pacific during World War II. He spent 45 years in law enforcement as deputy sheriff and sheriff of Barnes County in Valley City, chief game warden and chief parole agent for the state of North Dakota, and warden of the State Penitentiary in Bismarck. He retired May 1, 1983.
He was a life member and past president of North Dakota Peace Officers Association, and a member of VFW, Elks and Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Jan, Lincoln, Neb., Tom and LeAnne, Fargo, and Michael and Karol, Eugene, Ore.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Penny Matson, Brisbane, Australia, and Susan and Stephen Vorhes, Eugene; nine grandchildren, Brenna, Matthew, Amy, Chris, Eric, Emily, Michelle, Mike and Missy; five great-grandchildren, Scott, Thomas, Shelby, Samantha and Jonathan; one brother, Edward ``Bill", Litchville; and one sister, Inez Madden, Ypsilanti.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Inga; three brothers, Hank, Les and Ralph; and two sisters, Rose and Alice.
Irv was an avid hunter and fisherman. Irv truly loved life, the outdoors, and sharing them with friends and family. He will be greatly missed and always remembered by those whose lives he touched. He also enjoyed golf and looked forward to helping out at the farm during the harvest season.
Jeannette Meier
GLEN ULLIN -- Jeannette A. Meier, 53, Glen Ullin, died Aug. 5, 1996, in Elgin. Services will be at 10 a.m. MDT Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dickinson.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the church, where a parish vigil and rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Jeannette was born June 11, 1943, at Dickinson to George and Anna (Frenzel) Koffler. She was raised in Dickinson and graduated from Dickinson High School. She married Christ Meier, June 17, 1974, at Dickinson. They farmed near Glen Ullin, where she resided and cared for her family. Jeannette enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, embroidering and her dog, Drefuss.
She is survived by her husband, Christ; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Wallace and Vivian Berger, Bismarck, and Gaylen Meier, Glen Ullin; one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Robert Rath, Bismarck; three stepdaughters and stepsons-in-law, Patty and Bob Olzweski, Bismarck, Janice and Gary Neibauer, Bismarck, and Lowayne and Andy Grant, Modesto, Calif.; three stepsons and two stepdaughters-in-law, Al Meier, Wessington Springs, S.D., Tony and Carol Meier, Glen Ullin, and John and Pam Meier, Scranton; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her father, George Koffler, Dickinson; and one brother, Arnold Koffler, Dickinson.
She was preceded in death by her mother and one stepdaughter, Lorraine Meier.

Catherine Londo
Catherine Londo, 80, Wakefield, died July 27, 1996, in Ironwood. Services were July 30 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wakefield, and burial in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
She is survived by five sons, Roger, Hibbing, Minn., David, Windlake, Wis., Charles, Dundee, Mich., Eugene, Marquette, and Lawrence, Norway, Mich.; two daughters, Bonita Sparks and Joan Gray, both of Marquette; two brothers, George Schmidt, Mandan, and Pete Schmidt, Bismarck; and two sisters, Margaret Heinz, Bismarck, and Rose Erhardt, Mandan.
Charles Powell
Charles A. Powell, 90, Eugene, Ore., formerly of Alexander, died July 15, 1996. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Alexander Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; one brother, Lloyd, Alexander; one son, Charles, Denver; and two daughters, Louise, Lake Villa, Ill., and Linda, Eugene.
