Colleen J. Browne Ephrom
Anaheim, CA
Memorial Service was held at Waverly Church, Santa Ana on April 01, 2003. Tribute to Colleen was given by Harper F. Ephrom.
Colleen is survived by two sons. Harper F. and wife, Margaret Moniz Ephrom and granddaughters, Caitlin, Lisa Tyler, Michelle Tyler of Anaheim Hills, California.
Son, Clarke B. and wife Margaret Ruiz Ephrom of Orange, California. Granddaughter, Theodora R. S. Bollinger, two great grandchildren of Denver, Colorado.
Colleen was born June 30, 1916 in Enderlin, North Dakota to parents Florence A. (Harper) and James F. Browne.
Colleen attended school in Enderlin and graduated from University of Nebraska in 1940. One of her first jobs as an Elementary teacher was North Platte, Nebraska.
In 1942 she married Glenn O. Ephrom. In 1954 she moved to California, where she continued her love of teaching.
Colleen enjoyed life to the fullest. Raising her sons were a priority. Her latter years she pursued her love of dancing and exercise.
Mrs. Colleen Ephrom died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Ephrom in Orange, California on March 26, 2003.
Colleen’s family will lay her to rest at the Enderlin Community Cemetery at a later date.
Arvin A. Amundson
Enderlin, ND
Funeral services for Arvin A. Amundson, 80, of Enderlin, ND, will be held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Enderlin on Saturday, April 12 at 10:30am with Rev. Leon Zavadil officiating. Mr. Amundson died at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin on April 3, 2003. Verna Armstrong will be the organist and Jack Armstrong soloist. Pallbearers will be Ordell Hilde, Dale Munson, Glen Fuhrman, Ken Treitline, Zach Treitline and Max Sax. Burial will be at the Enderlin Cemetery.
Arvin was born March 1, 1923 in rural Enderlin, the son of Andrew and Hannah Hanson Amundson. He attended rural Enderlin school. He married Margaret L. Olerud on November 1, 1944 at Fort Ransom, ND. The couple lived in Enderlin until 1949 when they moved to Seattle, WA where Arvin owned Arvin A. Amundson Excavating. They returned to Enderlin in 1957, living on a farm until 1971 when they moved into Enderlin. He worked for Mayo Construction and Collins Construction, both of Fargo. Arvin played in the band, Brooder House Four, for several years. He was a member of the Enderlin Senior Citizens. He enjoyed mechanics, yard work and playing cards. Margaret died June 25, 2000.
Arvin is survived by one daughter, Melinda Treitline, Thief River Falls, MN; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Harry R. Salzwedel
Humboldt, Kansas
Funeral services for Harry R. Salzwedel, 81, of Humboldt, Kansas and formerly of Chanute, KS and Spavinaw, OK were Thursday, April 3, 2003 at First Baptist Church, Humboldt, KS with Rev. David Medley officiating. Mr. Salzwedel died April 1, 2003 at the Allen County Hospital in Iola, KS. Burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery, Chanute, KS with military honors conducted by VFW, Cecil J. Meeker Post #1654, Chanute, KS.
Mr. Salzwedel was born in Breckenridge, MN, on April 18, 1921, the son of Harry R. and Elizabeth M. Roth Salzwedel. He moved with his family to Sheldon, ND, as a child and attended schools in Sheldon. He then joined the U. S. Army on November 14, 1940 and served during both World War II and the Korean War, with 12 years of active military service. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard, retiring in 1981 as Sgt. 1st Class, E7, with 22-1/2 years total military service.
Harry married Ellen Ellene Coldren on June 3, 1944 in Ozark, AL. She preceded him in death on March 25, 1982. He was employed at The Chanute Tribune for 19 years, working in the composing room with advertising and make-up. He retired May 15, 1982. He also attended Neosho County Community College in Chanute.
Following his retirement from the Tribune, Harry moved to Spavinaw, OK, where he opened Rocky Roost Cafe. He also owned and operated a mobile home park in Spavinaw. While in Spavinaw, Harry served as a Town Trustee, and also served as Mayor. He married Agnes Ann Walker January 1, 1984. They were later divorced. He sold his businesses and moved to Humboldt May 6, 1999.
Harry was a member of the Spavinaw Baptist Church, and then the First Baptist Church in Humboldt. He was also a member of the American Legion #170 and the VFW, Cecil J. Meeker Post #1654, both in Chanute. He enjoyed fishing and playing with his grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters Elizabeth Mathewson and Sue Goddard, Iola, KS, and Helen Hull, Chanute, KS; sons, Raymond Salzwedel, Humboldt, KS and Harry L. Salzwedel, Warrensburg, MO; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Betty Anderson, White Bear Lake, MN; Doris (Peggy) Emerson, Sheldon, ND; Elizabeth Gavic, Minneapolis, MN; and brothers Walter Salzwedel, Fargo, ND and Clifford Salzwedel, Sheldon, ND. In addition to his wife, Mr. Salzwedel was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Robert L., on December 12, 1991; sisters Helen Salzwedel (in childhood), Hankinson, ND, Evangeline Barger, Minneapolis, MN, Frances Burke, Warren, MN, and brothers William Salzwedel and Herbert Salzwedel, Sheldon, ND and Donald Salzwedel, Fargo, ND.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Harold V. Reynolds
Enderlin, ND
Funeral services for Harold V. Reynolds, 84, of Enderlin, were held on Friday, September 26, 2003 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Mike Toomey officiating. Harold died at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin on September 22nd. Brian Reynolds and Jill Perhus sang and Norma Perhus was organist. Burial was at the Enderlin Cemetery and pallbearers were grandchildren and great grandchildren were honorary. Harold was born on November 14, 1918 in Enderlin, the son of Thomas and Emily Holzen Reynolds. He attended Sheldon School, graduating in 1936. He married Vivian Miller on January 3, 1940 in Moorhead, MN. They farmed near Enderlin for 50 years. They moved to Enderlin in 1990 and had wintered in Mesa, AZ for 22 years. Harold was an avid golfer and pool player.
Harold is survived by his wife Vivian, Enderlin; one son, Brian (Rhonda), Alexandria, MN; two daughters, Roxy Ann Reynolds, Aliso Vieqo, CA and Patricia Reynolds, Eagan, MN; six grandchildren, one step grandchild; 12 grandchildren; one step great grandchild; and one sister, Dorothy Yon, Stillwater, MN.
Mark Podoll
LaMoure, ND
The funeral for Mark “Red” Podoll, of LaMoure, ND, will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at 10:30 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, LaMoure, ND, with Reverend Thomas Puffe officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, LaMoure.
Mark Charles Podoll, son of Charles and Mary June (Laffen) Podoll was born on August 7, 1952 at Edgeley, North Dakota. He attended school at Edgeley, Fullerton, Ellendale, and graduated from LaMoure High School in 1970. In 1972, Mark graduated from NDSU Bottineau College, Bottineau, North Dakota. Mark participated in track while in high school, and wrestling in both high school and college. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Randall April 15, 1977 at Trinity Lutheran Church, LaMoure. Mark was self-employed as a carpenter with his brother until 1990, when he went to work for ADM Northern Sun, Enderlin, North Dakota for the last 13 years.
Mark was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. He also enjoyed following his sons sporting events.
Mark passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2003, at the Oakes Community Hospital after his short courageous battle with cancer. He was 51 years old.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy “Dotty”; three sons, Eric, Loren, and Brice, all of LaMoure, ND; his parents, Charles and Mary June Podoll, LaMoure, ND; one brother, Carter (Sandi) Podoll, LaMoure, ND; four sisters, Karen (Gary) Olson, Oakes, ND, Teena (Jon) Ketterling, LaMoure, ND, Penny (Blayne) Doty, Crookston, MN and Tracy (Gary) Ulmer, Fullerton, ND; 15 nieces; 15 nephews; his mother & father-in-law, Gerald & Ardella Randall, Dickey, ND; two brothers-in-law, Dwight (Sheila) Randall, Steele, ND and Darwin Randall, Fargo, ND; and two sisters-in-law, Debbie (Mike) Grimes, Mesa, AZ and Sue (Jeff) LaPan, Cannon Falls, MN. He was preceded in death by a sister, Tammy, his grandparents, and one nephew. Pallbearers for the funeral will be Chris Podoll, Levi Ketterling, Andrew Randall, Chase LaPan, Daniel Doty, and Jade Ulmer. Loretta Rasmusson will serve as organist for the funeral and Van Gross will be soloist.
Steve Wallace
Pocatello, ID
Steven George Wallace, 55, of Pocatello, Idaho, was born on January 26, 1958, to Gary and Beverly Wallace of Pocatello. Steve passed away on June 1, 2012, peacefully following an illness in Pocatello.
Steve was an avid snowboarder, music lover, beer drinker, book reader, and accomplished architect. He was known and loved for his eccentricities, his wry wit, and his ability to make any situation a humorous one. After serving in the United States Army, Steve graduated from the Awesome University of Idaho in 1982, with a B.A. in Architecture, and worked for the Wallace-Hudson Architecture firm for many years prior to taking ownership. Steve married Lori Wickland in 1979, with whom he had two children. They were later divorced. Steve married Marna Bartholomay, of North Dakota, in 2004.
Steve is survived by his children, Dan and Haley Wallace, his wife, Marna Wallace, and her children, Josh and Jason Switzer and Laura Muse. He is also survived by his sisters, Nan Stinson, Alison Jordan, and Darcy Bartholomay. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Beverly Wallace, grandparents, Cap and Mildred Wallace, and his uncle, Henry Wallace.
Wilma Beechie
Litchville, ND
Wilma Beechie, age 97 of Litchville, ND, died Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, October 3, 2003 in St. Francis Catholic Church in Marion, ND, with Reverend James Tiu, celebrant.
The rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Thursday evening in The Peterson-Johnson Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City. Interment will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery in Valley City.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday in the Peterson-Johnson Schuldt Funeral Home and one hour before services in the church Friday morning.
Wilma Miller was born October 27, 1905, at Nome, ND, one of twelve children to Carl and Annie Sophie (Gillund) Miller. Her early childhood was spent at Nome and later moved to Fargo where she attended school and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1923. Wilma married Ronald H. Beechie on November 24, 1925 in St. Catherine Catholic Church in Valley City with Reverend John Baker celebrant. The couple spent their early years of marriage on the family farm at Nome and later at Osnabrock and Fargo, all in North Dakota, and also Casper, Wyoming, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, before settling in Nome, ND.
Wilma was assistant to the postmaster at Nome for a number of years. The family moved to Litchville, ND in 1945. Mr. Beechie died January 28, 1987.
Wilma continued to make her home in Litchville until entering The Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City in March of this year.
Wilma was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Marion, ND and the altar society of the church. Wilma was also active in The Litchville Homemakers Club for fifty years. In 2000 she was honored as co-parade marshal of the Litchville Centennial Parade as the oldest female resident of Litchville.
Wilma is survived by a daughter-in-law Shirley (Olson) Beechie, Mandan, ND, two sons Brian (Janet Engebretson) Beechie, Walla Walla, Washington, and Gary Beechie, Bismarck, ND, one sister Alice Johnson, Enderlin, ND, one brother Wilfred Miller, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Ronald in 1987, one son Eugene in 2001, one grandaughter Tammy Lynn Beechie, one infant grandson, baby boy Beechie, her siblings, Arthur Miller, Pauline (Olaf) Gillund, Effie (M.I.) Skramstad, Bessie (Elton) Johnson, Ernest Miller, Rudolph Miller, Carla "Beatrice" (Milton) Johnson and twin infant brothers Wilfred Miller and William Miller.
Janet M. Thomas
Enderlin, ND
A memorial service was held on Friday, November 28, 2003 at the Enderlin Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Enderlin for Janet M. Thomas, 76. She died on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.
A Bible-based talk was given by Arlen Bonde. A luncheon was held afterwards at the Enderlin Senior Citizen Center.
Janet was born on January 31, 1927 in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. She grew up in Montclair, NJ where she attended school and graduated.
Some of the places she lived were: Needham, MA; Franklin, MA; Albuquerque, NM; Castro Valley, CA; Blackstone, RI; Northfield, NH; and finally, she moved to Enderlin, with her daughter Jacqueline in April of 1992.
She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on May 9, 1970.
Janet worked at Maryhill Manor as a housekeeper for seven years. She is survived by one son, Benjamin, Norton, MA; two daughters, Joanne (Combs), Levitttown, PA; Jacqueline, Enderlin, ND; and two granddaughters and one grandson.
Betty K. Froeber
Fargo, ND
Betty K. Froeber, 69, Fargo, ND, died Thursday, November 27, 2003 in Fairview Southdale Hospital, Minneapolis, MN. Funeral services were held on Monday, December 1 in First Lutheran Church, Fargo. Burial was in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Elizabeth “Betty” K. Detling was born June 24, 1934 in Silva, ND, the daughter of Matt and Mary (Fix) Detling. As a girl she attended school in Silva and Manfred, ND. She held various jobs in the Harvey and Fessenden, ND area, including babysitting and waitressing. She married Gerald (Jerry) V. Froeber on April 29, 1957 and they lived in Newtown, ND, Nashua, MN, Harvey, ND and Enderlin, ND. They moved to Fargo in 1989. Her husband, Jerry, preceded her in death on March 18, 2003.
Betty’s favorite activities and hobbies were crafting and cooking, traveling to see relatives, playing cards, visiting with friends, and quilting for newborn grandchildren. Her grandchildren were a source of tremendous pride to her. She was a VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary member since 1971.
Betty is survived by her three children, Kristi (Donn) Frahm, New Rockford, ND, Kevin (Michelle) Froeber, West Fargo, ND and Kari (Rex) Phipps, Champaign, IL; five grandchildren, Whitney, Kendall, Benjamin, David and Michael; seven brothers, Joe (Shirley) Detling, Mound, MN, Leo (Crystal) Detling, Billings, MT, Matt Jr. (Lois) Dettling, Watford City, ND, twins Harry Detling, Manfred, ND and Garry (Betty) Detling, Bismarck, ND, Ned (Jackie) Detling, Mitchell, Nebraska, and William (Carol) Detling, Denver, CO; six sisters, Ann Sauter, Roseburg, OR, Lena (Al) Walz, Mahnomen, MN, Burga (Orville) Smestad, Valley City, ND, Grace Thueringer, Renton, WA, Clara (Gerald) Elhard, Fargo, ND and Loretta (Joel) Graumann, Bismarck, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jerry, and her brother, Emmanuel.
Florence V. Oeder
Enderlin, ND
Funeral services for Florence V. Oeder, 97, Enderlin, ND, were held at Armstrong Funeral Home in Enderlin on Friday, January 30, 2004 with Rev. Leon Zavadil officiating. Florence died at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin on January 26, 2004. Verna Armstrong was organist. Florence’s nieces and nephews served as pallbearers and burial was at Salem Cemetery, rural Enderlin.
Florence Viola Oeder was born March 1, 1906 at Richmond, Indiana, the daughter of Otto and Emma Dehn Oeder. The family moved to Wausau, WI. After Florence’s mother died in 1910, she and her three younger brothers came to live with Grandma and Grandpa Dehn on their farm near Enderlin. Florence attended rural Enderlin school and graduated from Enderlin High School in 1924. She taught one year in Pontiac School. She attended Business College in Fargo and worked as a secretary for Bangert and Francis Law Firm in Enderlin. She worked in Minneapolis for a short time before returning to the farm as housekeeper for her uncle, Art Dehn. In 1965 they moved into Enderlin where she worked for Mertz Jewelry and for Alice Schwandt, American Legion State Secretary. She was a 4-H leader for several years and a member of Homemaker’s Club. She was a charter member of the Senior Citizen’s Center in Enderlin.
Florence moved from her home to Maryhill Manor in August 2000.
Florence is survived by two half-sisters, Myrtle Oeder and Doris Oeder of Enderlin.
She was preceded in death by brothers Harvey, Roy, Oscar, Harold and Harry and sister Effie Nelson.
Luella Lindvold
Valley City, ND
The funeral service for Luella Lindvold, 84, Valley City, formerly of Nome, was held on Monday, February 2, 2004 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kathryn. Rev. Bradley Edin officiated and burial was at Waldheim Cemetery, rural Kathryn. She died January 28, 2004 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.
Gertrude Luella Larson was born October 27, 1919 in Kathryn, North Dakota, the daughter of Martin and Amy (Overn) Larson. She attended Sand Prairie School near Kathryn. After her schooling she helped on many area farms.
On November 28, 1941 she was united in marriage to Ernest Warren Lindvold in Fargo, North Dakota. They made their home and farmed near Nome, North Dakota. Ernest died on August 5, 1993. Luella entered the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City, North Dakota on July 11, 2003.
She was a member of Waldheim Lutheran Church, rural Kathryn where she was active in Ladies Aid and had been a Sunday School Teacher. She was also an avid quilter there.
Luella is survived by her son, Warren Lindvold, Nome, North Dakota; daughter, LuAnn (Donavon) Janssen, Boulder, Colorado; three grandchildren, Carlen (Jim) McGregor, Clark (Heather) Janssen, and Brian (Missy) Janssen; and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, and two sisters.
