R. Lyle Creswell
Enderlin, North Dakota
Funeral services for R. Lyle Creswell, 64, were held Monday, July 8, 2002 at First Lutheran Church of Enderlin, with Rev. Leon Zavadil officiating. Lyle died at his home in Enderlin on Tuesday, July 2, 2002.
Shirley Hanson was organist for the services. Pallbearers were Danny Creswell, Todd Creswell, Larry Muth, Curtis Muth, Roger Muth and Keith Muth. Burial was at the Enderlin Cemetery.
Lyle was born September 25, 1937 in Fargo, ND, the son of Ross and Emma (Trapp) Creswell. He graduated from Enderlin High School. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and Viet Nam War. He married Sharon J. Arne in Enderlin on November 19, 1963. She died May 9, 1992. They lived in Harvey where Lyle worked for the Soo Line Railroad. In 1974 they moved to Enderlin where Lyle continued to work for the railroad. He was a member of the Enderlin V.F.W.
Lyle is survived by one son, Craig of Enderlin; two daughters, Tracey (Daniel) Erickson, Willmar, MN and Alise (Dylan) Camfield, Albuquerque, New Mexico; five grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth, Valley City, ND and Rodney (Monica), Bismarck, ND.
Naomi Farnham
Enderlin, ND, formerly of Fargo
Naomi Farnham, 82, of Enderlin, ND, formerly of Fargo, passed away on October 10, 2012, while in the hospital surrounded by family members.
Naomi was born on January 15, 1930, to Walter and Meta (Schmidt) Juenke. She grew up and attended school in Crystal, ND. She attended Taylor University and received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of North Dakota with degrees in English, Music, and Religion. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Phi Beta Kappa, and in 2005 was elected a member of Pi Kappa Lambda.
She was married to Rev. D. James Farnham (deceased) in August, 1954. They had three children: Tom (Nancy) Farnham, Enderlin, ND; Cynthia (Paul, deceased) Dressen, Belle Plaine, MN; and Ken (Lisa) Farnham, Fargo, ND. Naomi had nine grandchildren: Lesley (Jonathan) Kochel, Chaska, MN; Ben (Stefanie) Dressen, Belle Plaine, MN; James Dressen, Belle Plaine, MN; Zach (Renata) Farnham, Fargo, ND; Tim Dressen (Carissa Rand), Shakopee, MN; Sam (Rachel) Farnham, West Fargo, ND; Katie Dressen, Belle Plaine, MN; Caleb Farnham, Fargo, ND; and Lydia Farnham, Fargo, ND. She also had three great-grandchildren: Alex and Grant Kochel, Chaska, MN; and Emma Dressen, Belle Plaine, MN.
Naomi is also survived by a sister, Vernadine Otto, Bremerton, WA, and a brother, Arnold Juenke, Crystal, ND.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Duane and a sister, Lyla.
She was active in numerous organizations including the Fine Arts Club, Antique Club, Washington Elementary PTA (president twice), League of Women Voters, the local Democratic Party, and Cub Scouts. Naomi loved music, reading, and traveling. Naomi was a teacher for most of her life, including teaching music at Cass Lake, substitute teaching in West Fargo, and freshman English at NDSU. She participated in study programs at Oxford University in England and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in the 1980’s. She enjoyed grading SAT tests in Princeton, NJ. Naomi also was an entrepreneur, owning and operating a successful small business (MotoFoto) and a Christmas tree farm in the 1970’s.
Naomi loved family gatherings and being surrounded by the laughter and conversation of her children and grandchildren. She was a consummate storyteller, particularly enjoying recounting memories of times with her grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at Faith United Methodist Church in Fargo, ND, on Saturday, October 13 with Rev. Kevin Kloster officiating. Interment was at the West St. Olaf Cemetery, rural Enderlin, ND, with Rev. Frank Dobos officiating at the burial service.
The family would like to thank the health care teams at Maryhill Manor, Lisbon Area Health Services, Sanford LifeFlight, and Sanford Hospital for everything they did for Naomi.
Alma C. Brown
Faulkton, South Dakota
Funeral services were held for Alma C. Brown, age 94, Faulkton, SD, formerly of Enderlin and Cooperstown, ND, on Monday, July 1, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Enderlin. Alma died Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center in Faulkton, SD.
Alma was born June 5, 1908, the sixth of nine children to Otillie and Albert Retzlaff. She attended a one room school near their farm home west of Cooperstown, ND and graduated from Cooperstown High School. Alma then attended Interstate Business College. On March 12, 1932 Alma married Gordon B. Brown of Cooperstown and they moved to Enderlin, ND in 1933 where Gordon managed Moore & Liberty Telephone Company and Alma worked alongside him as secretary and treasurer. Gordon passed away August 13, 1985. Alma was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Enderlin, and was involved in the women¹s organizations of the church as well as Eastern Star, GFWC, and other community affairs. She was an avid crafter and made beautiful needlework projects.
Alma is survived by two sons, Harold (Louise), Faulkton, SD and Ray (Joyce), Enderlin, ND; 8 grandchildren: Alden (Carmen) Brown, Mason (Julie) Brown, Denise (Chris) Kenitzer, Clare (Eric) Johnson, Deidre (Dan) Leer, Nikki (Tyler) Kilde, Dion Brown and Karalyn Brown; 11 great grandchildren: Chelsea, Shannon and Austin Brown, Caroline and Alexis Kenitzer, Gunnar, Leif and Brita Johnson, Kiana, Dexter and Dawson Leer; 1 sister, Lilas (Dr.Richard) Dach of Oregon and 1 brother, Reynold (Mabel) Retzlaff of California; 1 sister-in-law, Lucille Nilson, Harlingen, TX and several nieces and nephews.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters (Irene Rickford-Dodson, Esther Beck and Eva Truscott), 3 brothers (Alfred, Arnold and Max Retzlaff).
Vera Kathryn Graham
Jamestown, ND
Vera Kathryn Graham, former educator, china painter and long-time Jamestown, ND resident, died of cancer on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at the Central Dakota Nursing Home at the age of 87. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 25 at First United Methodist Church of Jamestown with Rev. Dick Boyd officiating. Burial was at Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
Born Vera Kathryn Johnson in Danvers, MN in 1915, the daughter of Christ and Rose (Blake) Johnson, she grew up in Mountrail County, ND with her sister Iris and brothers Fritz, Irwin and Leith on the farm her parents had homesteaded. After graduating from Stanley High School, she received a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics and English from the North Dakota Agricultural College in 1939. She taught at Mina and Aberdeen, SD high schools before working as an extension agent in Bottineau, ND in 1941.
She married Herbert A. Graham in Glendive, MT in 1945 and began to raise a family in Langdon, ND. In 1951 they moved to Jamestown, where Herb was the Stutsman County Supervisor for Farmers Home Administration until his retirement after 39 years of federal service. He preceded her death in 1982.
After teaching briefly in Eureka, SD, Mrs. Graham taught Home Economics in Enderlin, ND from 1959 until 1966, where she developed a highly successful Future Homemakers of America program. She was very proud of her students, some of whom had received state and national recognition in the ³Make It With Wool¹ competitions. She also loved teaching cooking classes and developed and collected hundreds of recipes and cookbooks that delighted her students, family and friends throughout her life. Mrs. Graham later taught at Roosevelt School in Jamestown until her retirement from teaching in 1970.
Mrs. Graham had developed en enduring talent and love for china painting and was prolific in this art until her recent illness. She had been active in 4-H, the Prairie Rose Garden Club, the Jamestown Historical Museum, the Wesleyan Circle at the United Methodist Church and numerous other community and art-affiliated organizations. She particularly delighted in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Vera is survived by two sons, James, Baltimore, MD and Bradley H. (Roberta), Temple, AZ; one daughter, Vicky (John) Hopp, Puyallup, WA; two grandchildren, Lauren and Barrett Hopp, Puyallup, WA; and one brother, Earl ³Fritz² Johnson, Sparks, NV. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Herbert; one sister, Iris; and two brothers, Irwin and Leith.
Doris “Irene” Severson
Lake Mary, Minnesota
Doris Irene (Pitt) Severson died at her home on Lake Mary, MN on Monday, June 10, 2002. Funeral services were held on June 13, 2002 at the Faith Community Church of Alexandria with Rev. Phillip W. Mettling officiating. Inurnment was at Evergreen Cemetery in Alexandria.
Doris was born in Southwark (London) England on November 16, 1923, the daughter of John and Emily (Webb) Pitt. She grew up in the London area where she experienced death and destruction early in life, having survived the World War II ‘blitz’ in London. During the war Irene worked at a munitions factory and later in a hospital as a caregiver. It was through this experience that she acquired her lifelong compassion and unselfish devotions to others, often adding a touch of British humor for good measure. Also during this time she met her husband, Garfield Severson.
Irene and Garfield were united in marriage on April 14, 1945 at St. Luke’s Parish Church in Tittensor, England. After the war they settled in Enderlin, ND where they began raising a family. One of her proudest moments during this time was becoming an American citizen.
In 1967 the family moved to Alexandria where she continued her compassion for helping others.
Irene is survived by her husband Garfield “Gib”; a daughter, Carol Gravel, Brooklyn Park, MN; a son, Robert and wife Linda, Burnsville, MN, daughter Sheryl and husband Jim Bohlander, Key Biscayne, FL; daughter Dawn and husband Dan Olson, Alexandria, MN; 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; a sister, Violet and husband Jim Vermeulen, England; and nieces and nephews and many friends. To all she was a caregiver, companion and Christian friend.
Jendine Hegg
Eugene, OR
Jendine Hegg, 88, Eugene, OR, formerly of St. Paul, MN, died June 16, 2002, at the Patterson Home in Eugene, OR. She was born April 5, 1914 in Nome, ND. She attended Preston Grade School and Nome High School. On October 14, 1939, she married John Hegg in St.Paul, MN. She was employed at the Montgomery Ward Store there. John died in 1985.
She is survived by a son, John Jr., of Eugene, OR; a sister Irene (George) Prim of N. Hollywood, CA; and a sister Muriel (Glennis) Hamre, Leonard, ND, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, John and Mathea Moen, and her brother, Jervel.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 21, 2002 at 11:00 am at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN, with burial at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery
Arthur L. (Peep) Ford Jr.
Watertown, SD
Graveside Services for Arthur L. Ford Jr. (known as Peep), will be held at the Enderlin Cemetery Saturday, June 8, 2002 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Leon Zavadil officiating. He died at the age of 78 on March 2, 2002.
Frances Lindemann
Los Angeles, CA
Graveside services for Frances Lindemann, 94, Los Angeles, CA and formerly of Enderlin, ND, will be held at the Enderlin Cemetery on Monday, June 17 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Mike Toomey officiating. Mrs. Lindemann died May 5, 2002 at Citrus Valley Hospital in Los Angeles, CA.
Frances was born March 7, 1908 at Sisseton, SD, the daughter of Gustaf and Mabel Fordahl. She attended school at Sisseton, SD. She maried Rudy Lindemann on November 26, 1931 at Sisseton. They lived in Enderlin for a few years. They lived in Minnesota for a few years. They moved to Oakland and Berkley, CA where they managed the Hillside Club for many years until retiring and moving to San Ramon. He died July 30, 1983.
Frances is survived by two sons, Rodney (LouAnn), Red Bluff, CA and Stephen (Leslie), San Dimas,CA;one daughter, Muriel Denise Lindemann of Red Bluff, CA; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; two brothers, David and Leroy (Jeannie), both of Castro Valley, CA; two sisters, Muriel Miesner, Oakland, CA and Lorraine Damkier, Weed, CA.
She was preceded in death by a son James Allen and grandaughter Cindy.
Ralph Olson
East Grand Forks, MN
Funeral services for Ralph Olson, 83, of East Grand Forks, MN, were held Friday, August 2, 2002 at the Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks. Mr. Olson died Monday, July 29, 2002 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Ralph was born June 7, 1919 in Enderlin, ND, the son of Christ and Anna (Engelson) Olson. He grew up in Enderlin and graduated from Enderlin High School in 1937. He graduated from NDSU in Fargo in 1943. He entered the US Army from 1943-1946. He worked for Blue Cross, the Super Oil Company, and was a representative for GMAC. He married Irene Heilman in Breckenridge, MN on January 19, 1952. He worked as a security guard for the Nekoma MSR Base and the AFS Cavalier Base, retiring in 1987. They moved to East Grand Forks in 1998.
Ralph’s friendly manner, sense of humor, and hearty laugh will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is survived by his wife Irene of East Grand Forks; four daughters, Charlene Olson, Minot, ND, Yvonne Hoeltl, Devils Lake, ND, Beverly (David) Harrington, St. Paul, MN, Cara (Rolland) Miller, Warren, MN; two sons, Randall (Karen) Olson, Litchville, ND, and Richard (Pauline) Olson, Rice, MN; 8 grandchildren; two sisters, Ardelle Shelley, Missoula, MT, and Margaret Nick, Seattle, WA and many nieces and nephews. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, Robert, three brothers, Einar, Orlando, and Lloyd and two sisters, Florence Neuman and Clara Olson.
Christine M. Fromlath
Lisbon, North Dakota
Funeral services for Christine M. Fromlath, 91, Lisbon, North Dakota, were held Tuesday, July 30 at Lisbon Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Norm Anderson and Rev. David Killeen officiating. Jan Hansen was organist and Mary Madsen soloist. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon. Pallbearers were Richard Kirsch, Wayne Kienenberger, Randy Huether, Rick Mairs, Roy Chesley, and Allen Rasmussen. Honorary pallbearers were all of Christine¹s former pupils. Mrs. Fromlath died Saturday, July 27, 2002 at Parkside Home in Lisbon.
Christine was born January 22, 1911 in rural Verona, ND, the daughter of Hans C. and Mary Bleiken Bjone. She attended a rural school in LaMoure County. She attended high school in Fort Ransom, Lisbon and Valley City. She attended Long Beach City College in California and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Valley City State University, Valley City, ND. She married Sidney G. Fromlath on November 25, 1933 in Britton, SD. They farmed north of Elliott, ND for many years. He died June 19, 1985.
Christine taught in various rural schools in LaMoure and Ransom County, Fort Ransom and Lisbon School. She had also worked at Farmers State Bank of Lisbon (now Bremer Bank) for five years. She was a member of Rebekah Circle, Busy Bee Club, Eagles Auxiliary, Lisbon Senior Center and various bridge clubs.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Hans and a sister, Helen Steidl.
Clarence E. ³Pid² Bearman
Pelican Rapids, MN
Funeral services for Clarence E. ³Pid² Bearman, 76, of rural Pelican Rapids, Minnesota and formerly of Enderlin, ND, were held at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids, MN, on Saturday, July 27, 2002. Rev. Dale Peoelnjak officiated. Organist was Tom Thoreson and soloist Jim McBride. Burial was at the Enderlin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tom Haugen, Mike Davis, Randy Odom, Paul Haugen, Ben Davis and Jake Davis.
Clarence was born September 6, 1925 at Velva, ND, the son of Edward and Helen Bantel Bearman. As a young boy his family moved to Enderlin where he grew up and attended school. He then served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946, during WWII. After his discharge, he moved back to Enderlin. He married LaRue J. Martin on June 26, 1949 at Enderlin. They raised their family in Enderlin where he worked for the Soo Line Railroad, becoming an Engineer. He retired in 1986.
Pid enjoyed his retirement with family and friends in Minnesota, residing on Little Pelican Lake near Pelican Rapids, MN.
Pid is survived by his wife, LaRue; three daughters: Lori (Tom) Haugen, Lapwai, Idaho, Renee (Randy) Odom, Killeen, Texas, and Melanie (Mike) Davis, Dent, MN; five grandchildren: Cynthia Hopwood, Paul Haugen, Alicia Dunlap, Ben Davis, and Jake Davis; four great grandchildren: Sage and Skylar Haugen and Jaylen Waters, and Nathan Hopwood; one sister: Marlys (Ray) Moltzan, Frazee, MN. He was preceded in death by one son, Craig, his parents, and two brothers, Chuck and Walt Bearman.
Alden C. Rasmusson
LaMoure, ND

Funeral services for Alden C. Rasmusson, 78, were held Friday, September 13, 2002 at Standing Rock Lutheran Church, Fort Ransom, with Rev. David Carlson officiating. Mr. Rasmusson died at his home in LaMoure on Tuesday, Septem-ber 10, 2002. Burial was at Standing Rock Lutheran Cem-etery. Pallbearers were Keelan Rasmusson, Jesse Rasmusson, Wayne Rasmussen, Luke Rasmussen, Jason Rasmussen, Trent Bjone, and Andrew Faber. Honorary pallbearers were Alden’s granddaughters and great grandchildren. Organist was Betty Anderson.
Alden was born on June 22, 1924, in rural Fort Ransom, the son of Edward N. and Astrid K. Hanson Rasmusson. He attended Fort Ransom School, both rural and in town, graduating from high school in Fort Ransom. He married Harriet Holt on June 20, 1948 in LaMoure, ND. They farmed near LaMoure and Fort Ransom. They moved to LaMoure in 1995. Alden was a member of the Valley City Eagles Club, a past Wildlife Club member, served on the Standing Rock Lutheran Church Council and had been a Black Loam township officer.
Alden is survived by his wife; four sons: Keith (Lynette), Mandan, ND, Bruce (Loretta), LaMoure, ND, Steve (Joan), Kenosha, WI, and Todd (Norma), Lisbon, ND; two daughters: Sharon (Allen) Rasmussen, and Crystal (Darrel) Bjone, both of Fort Ransom, ND; sixteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three brothers: Jerome (Hazel), LaMoure, Ronald (Shirley), Waterford, WI, and Edward Jr. (Connie), Muskego, WI; four sisters: Arlene (Arnold) Rufsvold, Maxine (Calvin) Shockman, Beverly (Marvin) Mart, all of LaMoure, ND and Joyce (William) Coit, Englevale, ND. He was preceded in death by brothers, Donald and Curtis.
Olive M. Jankowski
Enderlin, ND
Olive Jankowski, 86, died under Hospice care at Maryhill Manor, Enderlin, on Saturday, April 26, 2003. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Enderlin on Tuesday, April 29 with Father John Fallon officiating. Polly Lindemann was organist and Cantor was Sylvia Schlagel. Burial was at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Enderlin. Pallbearers were Robert Bratlie, Vally Grabinger, Teri Krieger, Jamie Schmidt, Katie Jankowski, Jeri Jankowski, Robbie Jankowski, James Fey II, Tim Jankowski. Honorary pallbearers were all other grandchildren.
Olive was born April 1, 1917 at Enderlin, the daughter of Andrew and Ingeborg Lerdahl Jerdee. She attended school in Enderlin. She married George Jankowski on January 19, 1934 in Enderlin. George died March 16, 1978. Olive lived in Enderlin where she worked at the Grand Cafe, Enderlin Dry Cleaners, Martin’s Super Valu, and Enderlin Rexall Drug. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and St. Patrick’s Altar Society.
Olive is survived by two sons, Jerome (Lana), Nome,ND and James (Paulette), Enderlin, ND; four daughters, Joan Bratlie, Lisbon, ND, Jeanette (Harold) Froemke, Kingman, AZ, Audrey (Chris) Wegerle, Devils Lake, ND, Juanita (Larry) Kitchen, Lisbon, ND; 24 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 8 great, great grandchildren; one sister, Mamie Nygaard, Hillsboro, ND. She was preceded in death by a son, George and two brothers and two sisters.
