Plover, Wisconsin
Funeral services for Helen DeKay, 77, formerly of Enderlin, ND, were held on Thursday, January 25, 2001 at St. Bronislana Catholic Church in Plover, Wisconsin. Burial will be at a later date at Grove Lake, Minnesota. Helen died Sunday, January 21, 2001.

Helen was born on December 10, 1924, in Glenwood, MN, a daughter to Gustav and Lula (Lovestone) Berggren.

Helen worked in retail stores as a clerk in Stevens Point, WI.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Jonelle (Richard) Woytale-weiz, Stevens Point, WI; three sons, Thomas (Cheryl), Plover, WI, James, Custer, WI and Jerry of Florida; and by four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter and three brothers, Gust, Franz and Russell and by a sister, Louise. 2/14/01

Dorothy M. Ekeren
Lisbon, North Dakota
Funeral services for Dorothy M. Ekeren, 77, of Lisbon, ND were held on Monday, February 12, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon with Reverends Norm Anderson and Dave Killeen officiating. Pallbearers were Marty Lemnus, Mitch Lemnus, Jeff Ekeren, Roger Lukes, Ross Cole and Dennis Wallner. Music was provided by organist Marj Vangsness and soloist Paul Billing. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Lisbon, ND. Dorothy died Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at the Lisbon Medical Center.

Dorothy was born on January 19, 1924 in Elliott, ND, a daughter to George and Maggie (Leach) Olinger. She attended school in Elliott, ND.

Dorothy married Gilbert N. Ekeren on February 17, 1942 in Edgeley, ND. Gilbert died January 6, 2001.

Dorothy had worked at Moll’s Super Valu and Moll’s Appliance for several years. She worked for several years at Grinden’s Variety Store and a short time at the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store. She then worked at Ben Franklin for several years. Dorothy worked at Kelsen’s Bold Venture for several years and was presently working at 4G’s part-time.

Dorothy is survived by a son, James (Mary Beth), Enderlin, ND; a sister Lorraine (James) Olson, Auburn, WA and by two grandchildren, Tracy (Andrew) Bartholomay, Sheldon, ND and Emily, Fargo, ND. She was preceded in death by three brothers. 2/14/01

Donald Salzwedel
Fargo, North Dakota
Funeral services for Donald Salzwedel, 71, of Fargo, ND were held on Monday, February 12, 2001 at Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND. Burial will be at the Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, ND. Donald died Thursday, February 8, 2001 at the Veteran’s Affair Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Donald was born on November 13, 1929 in Hankinson, ND, a son to Harry and Elizabeth (Roth) Salzwedel. He grew up in Sheldon, ND and graduated from the Sheldon High School in 1948. He served in the US Navy from 1950-1954.

Donald married Delores Fraedrich in Enderlin, ND on May 25, 1955. They made their home in Fargo, ND.

He was employed by Nodak Stores from 1957 until retiring in 1990.

Donald is survived by his wife, Delores, Fargo, ND; three daughters, Darlene (Chuck) Gulsvig, Moorhead, MN, Denise (Denis) Bartholomay, Sheldon, ND and Debra (Dave) Lontz, Moorhead, MN; three sisters, Elizabeth Gavic, Minneapolis, MN, Betty (Vernon) Anderson, White Bear Lake, MN and Peggy Emerson, Sheldon, ND; three brothers, Harry, Humbolt, KS, Walter (Marion), Fargo, ND and Clifford (Valaria), Sheldon, ND and by ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. 2/14/01

Eddie Zick
Moorhead, MN
Funeral services for Eddie Zick, 88, of Moorhead, MN, were held on Saturday, February 3, 2001 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Leonard, ND with Reverend John Flaa officiating. Pallbearers were Eddie’s grandchildren and their spouses; Ryan (Lori) Rademacher, Todd Rademacher, Staci (Dave) Birrenkott, Matt Ellison, Tricia (Mike) Harris and Blair Kelley. Honorary pallbearers were all of Eddie’s nieces and nephews. Music was provided by organist Jenise Jensen and soloist David Piper. Burial was at Watson Cemetery, rural Leonard, ND. Eddie died Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at his home in Moorhead.

Eddie was born on March 2, 1912 near Leonard. He grew up and attended the rural Walburg School near Leonard. He began farming on the family farm.

Eddie married Marian Currence on September 9, 1938 in Moorhead, MN. They farmed near Leonard. In 1959, they moved into Leonard where they operated a cafe and later owned and operated Eddie’s Bar.

In 1971, they moved to Fargo, ND where he was employed at Bernie’s Package Store and the Fargo Eagle’s Club. In 1988, they returned to Leonard, ND, where he worked at the Leonard Golf Club. In 1994, they moved back to Fargo and had resided in Moorhead the past three months.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Marian, Moorhead, MN; three daughters, Carol (Ron) Rader-macher, Casselton, ND, Sylvia (Bill) Kelley, Jamestown, ND and Sandra (Gary) Woodward, Fargo, ND; a sister, Minnie Schmidt, Madras, OR and by six grandchildren and four great grandsons. 2/06/01

Steven L. Dowdell
Asheville, North Carolina
Steven Lloyd Dowdell, 48, Asheville, NC died January 13, 2001 at his home following an extended illness.

Steven was born in Sauk Centre, MN, a son to Darrell and Thelma (Nord) Dowdell. He later resided in Willmar, MN and worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 20 years. He relocated to North Carolina with his family in 1995, where he took up his woodworking hobby full-time.

Steven is survived by his wife of 25 years, Ann Dowdell, Asheville, NC; a daughter, Katie Dowdell, Blacksburg, VA; two sons, Shawn, Blacksburg, VA and Kristopher (Virginia), Asheville, NC; two sisters, Patricia Weets, Pipestone, MN and Amy VanGilder, Lino Lakes, MN; a brother, William Dowdell, Willmar, MN; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma and Darrell Dowdell. 2/06/01

Glen F. Daub
Enderlin, North Dakota
Funeral services for Glen F. Daub, 83, of Enderlin, ND were held Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Enderlin, ND with Reverend Leon Zavadil officiating. Pall-bearers were Kenny Ussatis, Darren Tingley, Jason Archbold, Robert Daub, Ed Finger and Allan Daub. Music was provided by organist Verna Armstrong and soloist Bobby Geske. Burial will be at the Enderlin Cemetery. Glen died Friday, January 26, 2001 at Hillcrest Manor in Enderlin.

Glen was born on August 12, 1917 in rural Enderlin, ND, a son to William and Pauline (Torbenson) Daub. He attended school in rural Enderlin. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp.

Glen married Erma Howe on January 15, 1942 in Enderlin, ND. They farmed near Lucca, ND for 60 years. In 1945, Glen began a gravel loading and hauling business, which he continued until 1981. They enjoyed many trips to Arizona to spend the winter months. They recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.

Glen is survived by his wife, Erma, Enderlin, ND; two sons, Gary (Bonnie), Enderlin, ND and Jerry (Deb) Wendel-Daub, Fargo, ND; a daughter, Sharon (Tom) Archbold, Fargo, ND; two brothers, Palmer (Margaret), Enderlin, ND and Roy, Valley City, ND; a sister, Madeline Fraedrich, Spokane, WA and by eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 1/30/00

Maemie E. Urbach
Lisbon, North Dakota
Funeral services for Maemie E. Urbach, Lisbon, ND, formerly of Englevale, ND were held on Monday, January 29, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon, ND with Reverend Norm Anderson officiating. Pallbearers were Dick Huether, Willard Voss, Dennis Dick, Bruce Urbach, Jerry Urbach and Dough KrchNavy. Music was provided by organist Marj Vangsness and soloist Joan Montgomery. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Lisbon, ND.

Maemie was born on January 28, 1914 in Stirum, ND, a daughter to Henry and Ellen A. (Nelson) Swanson. She attended and graduated from school in Stirum. She then attended college in Ellendale, ND. She taught school in Stirum and rural Ransom County Schools.

Maemie married Raymond A. Urbach on September 9, 1941 in Lisbon, ND. They farmed near Englevale, ND for many years before retiring in 1976. They continued to live on the farm until 1994 when they moved to Lisbon Medical Center Nursing Home. Raymond died Sept-ember 11, 1995.

Maemie is survived by a son, Larry (Christie), Lisbon, ND and by five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey. 1/30/00

Thelma Verlinden Scott
Prescott, AZ
Thelma Verlinden Scott, 94, died November 1, 2001, in Prescott, AZ. A graveside service will be held at St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery in Pingree, ND in August of 2002.
Thelma Smith was born in Jamestown, ND January 6, 1907. She married Leo Verlinder in Pingree, ND in 1925. They moved to Alice, ND in 1936 where they farmed and owned two businesses. Thelma was also Mayor of Alice in the early 1950s. They had five children. Leo died in 1956. She married Walter Scott in 1972. He died in 1993.
Thelma is survived by one son, Theodore (Sylvia) Verlinden, Chino Valley, AZ and three daughters, Maryann (Les) Dale,Franklin, TX, Irene Miller, Sacramento, CA, and Joann (Darrell) Hansen, Placerville, CA; 23 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren. One son, Jerome preceded her in death.

Diane A. Olstad
Cambridge, MN, formerly of Enderlin, ND

Diane A. Olstad (Fraedrick), 75, passed away of advanced pancreatic cancer Friday, August 31, 2012 in Santa Cruz, California. A small memorial service was held in California following her death.

Diane was born January 6, 1937 in Enderlin, ND, to Marvin and Beatrice (Arnold) Fraedrick and graduated from Enderlin High School in 1954. She married Jerry W. Olstad on March 7, 1958 in Enderlin, ND. She and her husband, who live in Cambridge, MN, travelled extensively and lived in the Midwest as well as in Oregon, most recently residing in Felton, California where they were fulfilling an interim ministry call at Mt Cross Ministries. She enjoyed travelling, reading, her dog Freyja and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Merlyn Fraedrick. Diane is survived by husband, Jerry Olstad, son, Todd Olstad of Isanti, MN, three daughters, Susan Olstad-Ydstie, of Mahtomedi, MN, Jennifer Hammer of Stillwater, MN and Eryn Fischer of Little Canada, MN.; and four grandchildren, Adam Ydstie, Luke, Joy and Samuel Hammer.

A Service of Internment will be held graveside, at the Enderlin Cemetery on November 17, 2012 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Terry B. Monson officiating. A luncheon will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Memorials can be made to either the Enderlin Alumni Association or to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Edna Ekre
Enderlin, ND
Funeral services for Edna Ekre, 94, were held Friday, November 9, 2001 at 10 a.m. at Enderlin First Lutheran Church with Rev. Leon Zavadil officiating. Mrs. Ekre died November 5, 2001 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. Burial was at the Enderlin Cemetery. Shirley Hanson was organist and Paul Billing soloist. Pallbearers were Laurel Pribbenow, Duane Pribbenow, Terry Loomis, Gene Gardner, Donna Larson and LeRoy Skramstad. Honorary Pall-bearers were Blaine Ekre, Bradley Ekre, Brent Ekre, Blair Ekre, Sara Yantis and Lee Frigen.
Edna was born November 13, 1906 at Kirkland, IL, the daughter of Daniel and Alida Breaw Lohr. As a child, she moved with her family to Sheldon, ND. She attended Sheldon and Buttzville Elementary schools and graduated from Wyndmere High School in 1925. She married Henry J. Ekre on March 1, 1933 at Marion, ND. They made their home in Enderlin. Edna taught Sunday School for many years and was active in WELCA. She was a founding member of Maple River Senior Citizens in Enderlin, and Royal Neighbors of America, serving as camp recorder for over 25 years. Mr. Ekre died April 11, 1987.
Edna is survived by one son, Donald (Marilyn) of Enderlin, and one daughter, Betty Frigen, Jamestown, ND; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one step-great, great grandson; two sisters, Olie (Lester) Loomis, Lisbon, ND and Ruby Bleese, Amboy, WA. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Robert P. Henderson
Enderlin, ND
Funeral services for Robert P. Henderson, 83, of Enderlin, were held Saturday, November 10 at Enderlin Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Mike Toomey officiating. Mr. Henderson died November 6, 2001 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo. Joan Schlecht was organist and Frank Egan soloist at the services. Pallbearers were Mark Olson, Steve Olson, Russell Myhre, Stuart Myhre, Steve Fernow and Rick Fernow. All in attendance served as honorary pallbearers.
Robert was born June 27, 1918 in rural Enderlin, the son of Perry and Rikka Helgeson Henderson. He attended rural Enderlin school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 where he received a Good conduct Medal and meritorious Unit Citation. He married Margie Fernow November 1, 1945 in Enderlin, ND.
Bob worked for Onstad’s Plumbing and Heating for several years. He worked for Pfaff Plumbing & Heating until retiring in 1980. Bob was a member of the Enderlin VFW.
Bob is survived by his wife Margie, Enderlin; two daughters, Marla (Leslie) Neumiller, and Nancy (Deon) Maasjo, both of Enderlin and one grandchild, Brittany, and one niece and one nephew and special buddie, Callie, the family black lab.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Rikka and a sister, Helen.
