Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in North Country Regional Hospital.
Salina Gagnon was born
Feb. 27, 1919, the daughter of William and Rose (Carpenter) Gagnon, in Koochiching County, Minn. She lived near Bemidji. She married
Orlyn Stay on July 27, 1939, in Bemidji. They lived on the family farm. Orlyn Stay died
Dec. 20, 1996.
She is survived by a daughter, Chere (Kent) Seado, Bemidji; two grandsons; three great-grandchildren; brothers, William (Verna), Bemidji, and Alfred (Mary), Grand Forks; and sisters, Irene (Wayne) Lish and Shirley (Olaf) Sletten, both of Bemidji, and Gloria Gagnon and Patsy (Art) Swanson, both of Arizona.
She was preceded in death
by a brother, Eugene; and sisters, Ida Kalitowski, Irish Smith and Lois South.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and one hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Trinity Free Lutheran Church, Liberty Township, Koochiching County. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Free Lutheran Church or charity of donors choice.
Donald A. Lang
DEVILS LAKE -- Donald A. Lang, 65, Devils Lake, died
Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Donald Andrew Lang was born
Nov. 1, 1933, the son of Fredrick and Alvina (Dubois) Lang, in Devils Lake. He grew up and attended school in North Dakota. He joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he moved to Seattle, where he worked. He returned to Devils Lake in 1995.
He is survived by daughters, Desiree Wright, Tulsa, Okla., and Robin Lang, Seattle; his mother, Devils Lake; sisters, Rosemary Wee and Patricia (Richard) Wee, both of Devils Lake, and Lynda (Alton) Abrahamson, Maddock, N.D.; and brothers, Walter (Bonnie) and Richard (Karen), both of Devils Lake, and Gerald, Spokane, Wash.
He was preceded in death
by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Lang; his father; a brother, Frank; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Wee.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, St. Joseph's Parish Center Chapel, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 8: 30 to 9: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
Lloyd A. Rood
Lloyd A. Rood, 82, Valley Memorial Homes Eldercare Center, died
Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in Altru Hospital.
Lloyd Ardell Rood was born
Sept. 16, 1916, the son of Obert and Engeborg (Kjomes) Rood. He grew up and attended school in Grand Forks, graduating in 1936. He attended Aaker's Business College, Grand Forks. He worked for Armour Meats and later for Armco Steel Building Products and Concrete Sectional Co. He married
Helen M. Wambach on March 25, 1944, in Moorhead. They lived in Bemidji before moving to Grand Forks. In 1998, they retired and returned to Bemidji. Helen Rood died
in 1991.
He is survived by sons, Robert (Nancy), Fargo, Stephen (Chris) and Donald (Barbara), both of Grand Forks, and Timothy (Amy) Rosemont, Minn.; a daughter, Debra (Mark) Capouch, Hibbing, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Meral (Nickie), Long Beach, Calif.
He was preceded in death
by an infant son; and a brother, Gordon.
Services: 6 p.m. Tuesday in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.

Agnes C. Taylor
CROOKSTON -- Agnes C. Taylor, 77, Crookston, died
Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in Riverview Hospital, Crookston.
Agnes Cecilia Salem was born
March 24, 1921, the daughter of Barber and Emma (Joseph) Salem, in Crookston. She married
Estol "Pat" Taylor on Sept. 27, 1937, in Grand Forks. They made their home in Crookston. They established the 900 Cab Co., which they owned and operated. She later worked for Jiffy Fry, Crookston and Miller's Super Fair. She worked for American Crystal Sugar Co. prior to her retirement. Estol Taylor died
June 5, 1979.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon (George) Jacobs, Crookston; sons, Robert (Donna), Grand Forks, and Ronald, Crookston; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Bud (Terry), Crookston; sisters, Mary Anderson, Hutchinson, Minn., Sally (Olaf) Homdrom, Fargo; Betty Bachellor, Grand Forks, and Barbara (Richard) Butler, Prescott, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Salem, Crookston.
She was preceded in death
by a daughter, Connie; an infant son and daughter; brothers, Louis, Sam and Marcell "Muss"; brothers-in-law, Art Anderson and Roy Bachellor; and a sister-in-law, Myrtle Salem.

Earl S. Hougard
BEMIDJI -- Earl S. Hougard, 66, Bemidji, died
Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
Earl Sherman Hougard was born
Jan. 29, 1932, the son of Holger and Anna (Anderson) Hougard, in Strandquist, Minn., where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married
R. Marion Dagen on June 7, 1952, in Karlstad, Minn. They lived in Strandquist. He was instrumental in the formation of the Tri-County Ambulance Service in Strandquist. He was a school bus driver and farmed with his brother, Philip. He owned and operated a service station, a Massy Ferguson Implement and sold insurance. In 1988, they moved to Bemidji, where he owned and operated Paul Bunyan Animal Land. He was working for the Vehicle Testing Services in Cass Lake, Minn.
He is survived by his wife; sons, E. Sterling (Gayle), Karlstad, and Merritt (Karie), Bemidji; a daughter, Caara (Roger) Holmstrom, Strandquist; and six grandsons.
He was preceded in death
his parents; a brother, Philip; and a sister, Ruby Hougard.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday in Bethel Lutheran Church, Bemidji.

Wanda M. Borchgrevink
ADAMS, N.D. -- Wanda M. Borchgrevink, 79, Adams, died
Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, in St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River, N.D.
Wanda M. Strelow was born
Oct. 9, 1919, the daughter of Robert and Annie (Nelson) Strelow, in Adams, where she attended school. She married
Leonard Borchgrevink on Nov. 16, 1944, in Adams. They farmed in the Adams area. In 1969 they moved into Adams. She worked as a nurses' aide at St. Ansgar's Hospital in Park River and later for the Nutritional Center in Adams, until the summer of 1998.
She is survived by a son, Larry (Bonnie), Tumwater, Wash.; daughters, Virginia (Darrell) Dvorak, Fosston, Minn., Nancy (Fran) Wheelock, Rochester, Minn., and Marilou (Kent) Green, Grafton, N.D.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by sisters, Alice and Mary; and a brother, Roy.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. today, Mountain Lutheran Church, Adams.

Thomas E. Braaten
PORTLAND, N.D. -- Thomas E. Braaten, 61, Portland, died
Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, in Union Hospital, Mayville, N.D.
Thomas E. Braaten was born
Aug. 14, 1937, the son of Garvin and Agnes (Strand) Braaten, in Portland, where he graduated from high school. He worked for several farmers in the area and Schmidt Oil of Portland. He worked for Traill County (N.D.) Highway Department for 36 years. He ran the family farm near Portland since 1978. He served in the National Guard for seven years.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; stepsons, Tim Haux, Hillsboro, N.D., and Scott (Renae) Haux, Portland; a stepdaughter, Ronell (Jim) Olstad, Maple Grove, Minn.; six stepgrandchildren; his mother, Portland; and sisters, Betty Larson, Portland, and Lilah (Cliff) Johnson, Mandan, N.D.
He was preceded in death
by his father.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Aurdal Lutheran Church, Portland.

Myrtle Iverson
PETERSBURG, N.D. -- Myrtle Iverson, 86, Petersburg, died
Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, in Parkview Health Center, Aneta, N.D.
Myrtle Oien was born
June 1, 1912, the daughter of Peder and Anne (Lofton) Oien, in Doyon, N.D., where she attended school. She moved with her family to Dahlen, N.D., in 1929, where she graduated from high school in 1931. She married
Olaf Iverson on Nov. 5, 1931, in Dahlen. They lived and farmed in Petersburg until 1956, when they moved into Petersburg. They built, owned and operated the Iverson Fairway Store. They retired in 1975. In 1992 they moved to Mankato, Minn., and in 1997 they moved to Parkview Health Center.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Odean "Buddy" (Norma), Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Carrol (Charles) Adamson, Bella Vista, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Iverson, Petersburg; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Alice Leonard, Chino, Calif., and Inez Larson, Auburn, Calif.
She was preceded in death
by a son, Morris; brothers, Paul, Albert, Henry, Arthur, Raymond, Martin and Carl; and sisters, Marie and Evelyn.

Avis D. Klave
Avis D. Klave, 55, Auburn, Wash., formerly of Thief River Falls and Grand Forks, died
Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, in North Auburn Rehabilitation Center.
Avis D. Klave was born
Nov. 22, 1942, in Los Angeles. She moved to Thief River Falls and later to Grand Forks, where she graduated from high school in 1960. She moved to Auburn in 1963. She married
Dan Klave on Jan. 25, 1964, in Auburn. She worked for Tom Matson Dodge and Auburn Nissan.
She is survived by her husband, Dan; sons, Dan, Carnas, Wash., and David, Fife, Wash.; a grandchild; her mother, Ellen Larson, Puyallup, Wash.; a sister, Ginny Anderson, Auburn; and brothers, Arlin "Butch," Puyallup, Gary, Kent, Wash., Ed, Tacoma, Wash., and Greg, Grand Forks.

Mary Sonderland was born
April 9, 1931, the daughter of Peter and Julia (Yoney) Sonderland, in Petersburg. She moved to Arkansas from Grand Forks in May 1985. She married
Gregory Hopman.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Scott (Donna), Houston, and Brad (Michele), Bentonville, Ark.; a grandson; a brother, Ken Omlid, Steamboat Springs, Colo.; and sisters, Nellie Forde, Jane, Mo., and Betty Holmes, New York City.

Edith Naline
CANDO, N.D. -- Edith Naline, 92, Cando, died
Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at home.
Edith L. Naline was born
Dec. 27, 1905, the daughter of Lars and Cecelia (Nelson) Naline, in Considine, N.D., where she attended school. She attended Valley City (N.D.) State Teachers College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught rural school in Towner County, N.D. From 1943 to 1960, she was Towner County superintendent of schools. From 1961 to 1963, she was Towner County register of deeds, and then county judge from 1963 to 1970. She continued to work part time for the Towner County Courthouse until her retirement in 1978.
She is survived by a sister, Irma Murphy, Glasgow, Mont.
She was preceded in death
by sisters, Mary and Ruth.
