Kathryn 'Pat' Burianek

MINTO, N.D. -- Kathryn "Pat" Burianek, 80, Sunset, La., formerly of Minto, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, in Doctor's Hospital, Opelousas, La.

She is survived by a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Mary Kohl, Grand Forks.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on April 22, 1997; and a son, James.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Henriksen-Kamrowski Funeral Home, Grafton, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.

Trevor Scott

CANDO, N.D. -- Trevor Scott, 12, Cando, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, in Towner County Medical Center, Cando.

Trevor Van Scott was born Sept. 26, 1986, the son of Roger and Jayne (Stone) Scott, in Cando, where he attended school through second grade. He was then home bound with Special Education providing in-home services due to health reasons.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Preston; a sister, Kayla, all of Cando; and grandparents, Robert Scott Sr., Cando, and Margy Stone, Knox, N.D.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Lucille Scott and Francis Stone.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday in Cando Church of the Brethren, Cando.

Visitation: Noon to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to noon Friday in Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Knox Lutheran Cemetery.

Herbert 'Mickey' Herzog

Herbert "Mickey" Herzog, 69, Grand Forks, formerly of Cavalier, N.D., died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at home.

Herbert Herzog was born Sept. 27, 1929, the son of Julius and Hilda (Thom) Herzog, in Neche, N.D., where he attended school. He married Norma Jean Stellon in Bowesmont, N.D. He owned and operated the Texaco and Standard gas stations in Cavalier. He lived in Grand Forks, and worked for UND. Norma Jean Herzog died Feb. 7, 1993.

He is survived by a son, Dennis Lynn, Grand Forks; a daughter, Diane Lyn (Jeff) Herzog Smith, Crystal, Minn.; sisters, Marie Vlasek, Robbinsdale, Minn., Lillian Zimmer, Minneapolis, and Lenore (Roman) Trautt, Fridley, Minn.; and a brother, Erwin, Grand Forks.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Garf; and a sister, Maryy Halvorson.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church, Cavalier.

Visitation: Two hours before services in the church.

Burial: Bowesmont Cemetery (Jensen-Askew, Cavalier).

William P. 'Bill' Kring

DEVILS LAKE -- William P. "Bill" Kring, 44, Devils Lake, formerly of Fargo, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, at home.

William Kring was born July 3, 1954, the son of Edwin and Loretta (Worms) Kring, in Cando, N.D. He grew up and attended school in Rugby, N.D. He lived in Fargo, where he worked as an insurance salesman and later owned a landscaping and construction business until ill health forced him to retire. He moved to Devils Lake in October 1994.

He is survived by sisters, Frances Jarshaw, and Deborah (Loren) Kollman, both of Devils Lake; and brothers, Bernie (Patty), Fargo, and Roger (Angela), San Bernardino, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday in Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake.

Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1: 30 Saturday, all in the funeral home.

Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.

Tanya M. Hermanson

MINNEWAUKAN, N.D. -- Tanya M. Hermanson, 41, Minnewaukan, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, in Fairview University Medical Center, Minneapolis following an illness.

Tanya Marissa Hermanson was born March 17, 1957, the daughter of Hjalmer and Phyllis (Rognlie) Hermanson, in Maddock. She grew up in Butte Valley Township, Benson County, N.D. She attended school in Harlow, N.D., and graduated from high school in Maddock, in 1976. She attended UND Lake Region, Devils Lake. She lived in Bismarck, where she did commercial art. She returned to the Harlow area, where she farmed with her family. She also worked as a commercial artist in Devils Lake. She owned and operated Dakota Hearted Arab-Pintos, Minnewaukan. She was also employed with the gaming at the Legion Club, Maddock.

She is survived by her parents, Maddock; brothers, John, Harlow, Barry and Teran (Dawn), both of Maddock, and Rob (Lona), Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday in North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock.

Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m. Friday in Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock.

Burial: Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery, Harlow.

Woodrow 'Woody' A. Steffen

BEMIDJI -- Woodrow "Woody" A. Steffen, 80, Bemidji, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.

Woodrow Albert Steffen was born April 17, 1918, the son of Herman and Ducetta (Murray) Steffen, in Alamo, N.D. He attended school in Bellingham, Minn. He worked at the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp in Lake City, Minn. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps Dec. 19, 1939. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He married Marcella Juliot on Feb. 22, 1946. He was discharged in 1946 and moved back to Bellingham, where he owned and operated a heavy equipment construction business. In 1965, he began working with U.S. Soil Conservation Service as a field technician. He worked out of Madison, Waseca and Bagley, Minn. He retired in 1972.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Christine (Barry) Guptill, Paynesville, Minn., and Charlene (Mark) Cohrs, Park Rapids, Minn.; a son, Joel (Sandy), Bemidji; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Clarence (Jean), Reseda, Calif., and Oliver (Billie), Clark, S.D.; and a sister, Norma Jensen, Minnetonka, Minn.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Muriel Jensen and Christie Steffen.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday in Solway (Minn.) Lutheran Church.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. today in Cease Family Funeral Home, Bemidji, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery, Little Falls, Minn.

Borghild Halvorson

Borghild Halvorson, 83, Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Grand Forks, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Las Cruces, N.M.

Borghild Eilertson was born April 15, 1915, the daughter of Osmund and Karina Eilertson, in Heimdahl, N.D. She was raised by her aunt Gunla and Ole Roostvedt. She attended school in Heimdahl and graduated from Benson County Agricultural School, Maddock, N.D. She married Hans Halvorson on Jan. 6, 1938, in Fargo. They lived in several towns in North Dakota, including Grand Forks and Harvey. Hans Halvorson died in July 1994. She had lived with her daughter for the past two years in Little Rock.

She is survived by daughters, Marlys, Las Cruces, N.M., and Helene (Ed) Pomerantz, Little Rock; sons, Vincent (Judy), Beatrice, Neb., and Corey (Susan), St. Louis; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ione.

Services: Will be held in the spring.

Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, N.D.

Burial: Petrie Cemetery, Pickert, N.D.

Norman Haugen

HANNAFORD, N.D. -- Norman Haugen, 70, Hannaford, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Griggs County Hospital, Cooperstown, N.D.

Norman Haugen was born Jan. 24, 1928, the son of Ben and Oline (Harvey) Haugen, in Hannaford, where he attended school. He married Linda Wilton in February 1960 in Seattle. They farmed in the Hannaford area. He moved back to Seattle for several years and spent winters in Tucson, Ariz.

He is survived by a son, Kevin (Dana), Fargo; a daughter, Lori (Kim) Page, Anoka, Minn.; three grandchildren; a brother, Melphord, Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and sisters, Sylvia (Leslie) Peterson and Esther (John) Thompson, both of Hannaford, and Beverly (Oliver) Cooper, Lisbon, N.D.

Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday in Eidfjord Lutheran Church, Walum, N.D.

Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Eidfjord Cemetery.

Robert J. 'Bobby' Vetsch

DEVILS LAKE -- Robert J. "Bobby" Vetsch, 17, Devils Lake, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at home.

Robert James Vetsch was born Feb. 26, 1981, the son of Joseph and Belinda (Alvestad) Vetsch, in Devils Lake. He was a senior at Devils Lake High School. He worked for Quality Welding, Devils Lake.

He is survived by his parents, Devils Lake; a brother, Joe, Grand Forks; a sister, Sheila, West Fargo; grandparents, Robert and Marian Alvestad and Lena Allard, all of Devils Lake; and his great-grandmother, Lena Schwan, Devils Lake.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joseph Peter Vetsch.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Parish Center Chapel, Devils Lake.

Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5: 30 p.m. today in Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the parish center, and before the prayer service in the parish center.

Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

Agnes Marson

COOPERSTOWN, N.D. -- Agnes Marson, 88, Cooperstown, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, in Griggs County Nursing Home, Cooperstown, where she had lived since December.

Agnes Evenson was born Nov. 10, 1910, the daughter of Ed and Sarah (Iverson) Evenson, in Binford, N.D. She attended high school in McHenry, N.D., and Binford. She then attended Valley City (N.D.) State College. She taught rural schools and served four terms as Griggs County school superintendent for all rural schools. She married Archie Marson on Dec. 18, 1949, in Cooperstown. They lived on a farm near Cooperstown until moving into Cooperstown in 1982. Archie Marson died May 9, 1991.

She is survived by a son, George (Florence), Mount Hope, Kan.; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Julius, Cooperstown.

She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Services: 1: 30 p.m. Thursday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Cooperstown.

Visitation: 2 to 6: 30 p.m. today, Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, and one hour before services in the church.

Burial: Cooperstown Cemetery.

Clara Coenen

NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Clara Coenen, 91, New Rockford, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, in Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, where she had lived since 1996.

Clara Erickson was born June 16, 1907, the daughter of Carl and Emma (Carlson) Erickson, in Nekoma, N.D. They moved to Leslie, Sask., in the fall of 1909, where she attended school. In 1930, she returned to Nekoma and worked in Fairdale, N.D. She married Henry Coenen on April 9, 1932, in Warwick, N.D. They lived on his farm until 1969, when they moved into Warwick. Henry Coenen died April 15, 1971. In 1985, she moved to New Rockford.

She is survived by sons, Gene (Dixie), Rogers, Ark., Jack (Ruth), Warwick, and Russell (Inez), Red Lake Falls, Minn.; daughters, Ramona (Gerard) Allmaras, New Rockford, Marjorie (Jay) Rice, Maddock, N.D., Darlene (Barry) Palmer, Oakridge, Ore., and Carol (Larry) Pewe, Edinburg, N.D.; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Evelyn Helgeson, Foam Lake, Sask., and Hilma Reiss, Elfros, Sask.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, infant daughter, four grandchildren, three stepdaughters, a brother and a sister.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Warwick Lutheran Church.

Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Burial: Warwick Cemetery.
