Helene L. Larson
Helene L. Larson, 84, 1208 Fifth Ave. N.W., East Grand Forks, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Helene L. Chapman was born March 18, 1914, the daughter of Dick and Laura (Norman) Chapman Sr., in Raton, N.M. She grew up in Rocky Ford, Colo. She moved with her family in 1926 to East Grand Forks, where she attended school. She attended UND. She married Oswald "Tuff" Larson on Dec. 19, 1935, in East Grand Forks, where they lived. He died Oct. 4, 1997.
She is survived by a son, Kent (Mary Ann), East Grand Forks; a daughter, Laurel (Gary) Olson, Grand Forks; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Dick, Vancouver, Wash.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, with a 4 p.m. prayer service, in Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.
Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks.
Lewis J. Saxton
GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE -- Lewis J. Saxton, 63, Mulvane, Kan., formerly of Grand Forks Air Force Base, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at home.
Lewis Saxton was born April 11, 1935, the son of Lewis and Violet (Northouse) Saxton, in Laramie, Wyo. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years. He married Candyce Best on Feb. 14, 1970, at Grand Forks Air Force Base. They moved to Mulvane in 1972. He was a purchasing agent for National Cash Register.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Kathy Saxton, Kansas City, Kan., and Kay Constantine, Denver; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his mother, Violet Diamond, Cheyenne, Wyo.; and sisters, Doris Martinez, Tucson, Ariz., and Betty Squires, Cheyenne.
He was preceded in death by a son, Terry; and his father.
Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Inkster ( N.D.) Cemetery.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore.
Burial: Inkster Cemetery.
Margaret Trosen
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Margaret Trosen, 61, Park River, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, in St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River.
Margaret Pengilly was born Sept. 12, 1936, the daughter of Ernest and Florence (Cree) Pengilly, in Pisek, N.D. She attended school in Rushford Township, Walsh County, N.D. She married William Trosen on Oct. 13, 1955. They lived in Lakota, N.D., before moving to Park River.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Richard (Lisa), Walcott, N.D., Randall (Lynette), Roben (Stacy), both of Park River, Russell (Pam), Cavalier, N.D., and Reed (Kathleen), Harvey, N.D.; 12 grandchildren; her father, Edmore, N.D.; a sister, Virginia Samuelson, Park River; and brothers, Richard, Park River, Robert, Rockford, Ill., and Eugene, Vauhn, Mont.
She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney; her mother; and a brother, Darrell.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Sunday, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Park River.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Henriksen-Kamrowski Funeral Home, Park River, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Park River.
Melissa Ann Buechler
Melissa Ann Buechler, 8, Indianapolis, formerly of Minto, N.D. and Grand Forks, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, in Indianapolis.
Melissa Ann Buechler was born June 13, 1990, the daughter of Dean Duane and Nancy Sue (Wade) Buechler, in Minot. She moved to Grand Forks, where she attended Head Start and Century Preschool, Lake Agassiz Kindergarten and first grade. She finished first grade in Kenmare, N.D., because of the flood in Grand Forks. She was a Sunnyshine Singer at University Lutheran Church, Grand Forks. She was also a member of the Girl Scouts for three years. She moved with her family to Minto, where she attended second grade. She moved with her family to Indianapolis in June of 1998.
She is survived by her parents; a sister, Brittany, Indianapolis; grandparents, Mavora and Janet Wade, Kenmare, Ruben and Arlene Buechler, Sawyer, N.D.; and a great-grandmother, Helen Kassner, Sawyer.
Services: 10 a.m. today in Minto Public School, and 2 p.m. Monday, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot.
Visitation: Noon to 5 p.m. today and Sunday in Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
Raymond Muller
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Raymond Muller, 84, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Raymond Leroy Muller was born July 18, 1914, the son of Frank and Inga (Anderson) Muller, in Watertown, S.D. He moved with his family to Wright, Minn., and later to Virginia, Minn. He attended and graduated from high school in Mountain Iron, Minn. He attended college in Virginia. He worked in Princeton, Minn., for area farmers. He moved to Onamia, Minn., where he worked as a truck driver and mechanic. He married Bernice Kaler on July 26, 1941, in Long Prairie, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to Onamia. They moved to Motley, Minn., where he worked as a mechanic. In 1963, they moved to St. Paul, where he owned and operated an Italian restaurant. In 1976, he retired and they moved to Polk Center Township, Pennington County, Minn. They wintered in Mission, Texas, and summered in Thief River Falls.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Myrna (John) Erickson, Red Lake Falls, Minn.; a son, Marvin "Butch" (Cindy), Moose Lake, Minn., five grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Justin, Floyd, and Elgin; sisters, Helen Toungstrom, Eileen Trana and Grace Bostrom; and his stepmother, Bertha (Long) Muller.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Monday in Heritage Center, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the Heritage Center.
Burial: Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Camp Ripley, Minn.
John C. Grover
HANNAFORD, N.D. -- John C. Grover, 78, Hannaford, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
John C. Grover was born Aug. 24, 1920, the son of Adolph and Amanda (Christ) Grover, in Leal, N.D., where he attended school. In 1936, his family moved to Hannaford, where he graduated from high school. He married Pearl Bjor on June 19, 1942, in Cooperstown. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942. After his discharge in 1945, they moved to Hannaford, where he worked at Security State Bank before buying the grocery store, which he owned and operated for nine years. He then returned to Security State Bank, where he worked until retiring in 1985.
He is survived by his wife; a son, John (Sharon), Hannaford; daughters, Kathy (Lyonel) Erickson, Hannaford, and Nancy (Bryan) Wiger, Plainfield, Ind.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Annabel Stover, Alexandria, Va.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Faith Lutheran Church, Hannaford, and 1: 15 p.m. Saturday, Memory Gardens, Valley City, N.D.
Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. today, Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Memory Gardens.
Gerald Stoltman
GRAFTON, N.D. -- Gerald Stoltman, 61, Grafton, died at home.
Gerald Stoltman was born June 13, 1937, the son of Ambrose and Gertrude (Mozinski) Stoltman, in Grafton. He grew up and attended school in Minto, N.D., and Hanson Mechanical Trade School, Fargo. He did body work in the area and farm work. He joined the U.S. Air Force from Sept. 26, 1957 to Sept. 8, 1960. He married Adeline Paschke on June 6, 1970, in Warsaw, N.D.
He is survived by children, Daniel, Pembina, N.D., Duane, Thief River Falls, Darlene (David) Stremick, Grand Forks, Darrell, Hankinson, N.D., Doris Stoltman, Wahpeton, N.D., and Dale, Minto; one grandson; his mother, Grafton; sisters, Rita Rudnik, Minto, and Bertha Tibert, Fargo; and a brother, William, Dazey, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery (Henriksen-Kamrowski, Grafton).
Lyle J. Bina
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Lyle J. Bina, 60, Park River, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, in St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River.
Lyle J. Bina was born Sept. 28, 1937, the son of William and Leona (Sherek) Bina, in Grafton, N.D. He graduated from Walsh County Ag School, Park River, and attended UND and Mayville (N.D.) State. He joined the U.S. Army Jan. 29, 1957 to Nov. 21, 1958. He worked in highway patrol then in building construction in Chicago, Baton Rouge, La., Los Angeles, Hereford, Texas, and Winterhaven, Fla. He married Maureen Flynn on July 5, 1975, in Los Angeles. He returned to Lankin in 1987.
He is survived by a daughter, Michelle Bina, Grand Forks; a son, Scott Logan, Des Moines, Iowa; a brother, Michael, Indianapolis; and a companion, Jana, Park River.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 10 a.m. today, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Lankin.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery (Henriksen-Overbye, Park River).
Lily A. DuBois
FORT TOTTEN, N.D. -- Lily A. DuBois, 91, Fort Totten, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Lily McKay was born Nov. 12, 1906, the daughter of Luke Hepanzi and Mary Louise (Hdiwankewin) McKay, in Fort Totten. She grew up on Spirit Lake Reservation and attended school in Fort Totten and Genoa, Neb. She graduated high school from Lawrence, Kan. She worked for BIA and Green Thumb Program. She married Alfred DuBois Jr. on Dec. 27, 1933.
She is survived by daughters, Myrtle Gillis, Belcourt, N.D., Verna (Dr. Murton) McClusky, Great Falls, Mont., and Agnes (Clifford) Littlewind, Fort Totten; a son, Les (Delila) DuBois, Lakewood, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Henry, Alphonse, Gabriel, Joseph, Jesse, Michael and Patrick McKay; and a sister, Margaret Two Hearts.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten.
Visitation: Begins 5 p.m. today in Fort Totten Recreation Center.
Burial: St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery.
Hazel A. Ewert
LANGDON, N.D. -- Hazel A. Ewert, 89, Langdon, formerly of Munich, N.D., died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, in Maple Manor Care Center, Langdon.
Hazel A. Schields was born June 24, 1909, the daughter of Herman and Anna (Regier) Schields, in Munich, where she attended school. She received her teaching certificate from Mayville (N.D.) State Teacher's College, and taught in rural schools. She married John Ewert on Oct. 15, 1933, in Alsen, N.D. They made their home in Munich, where they farmed. They moved and farmed on her parents' homestead in Munich. They retired in 1973, and moved into Munich. In July 1996, they moved to Devils Lake. John Ewert died Dec. 14, 1996. In February 1998, she moved to Maple Manor Care Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Gladys Callahan, Arvada, Colo.; sons, John Jr. (Loretta), Munich, and Milton (Patricia), Yakima, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; and a sister, Esther Wuthnow.
Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Salem Mennonite Church, Munich.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
Burial: Rosehill Cemetery, rural Alsen.
James C. Sherry
CROOKSTON -- James C. Sherry, 74, Crookston, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, in Riverview Nursing Home, Crookston, where he had lived since Aug. 18, 1998.
James C. Sherry was born June 20, 1924, the son of James and Anna (Marinko) Sherry, in Tabor, Minn., where he attended school. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force from Jan. 20, 1945 to Dec. 29, 1946. He then farmed in Euclid Township, Polk County, Minn. He married Bernice Schulz on Oct. 11, 1950, in Euclid. They retired from farming in 1985. He helped his son, Greg, farm until this past spring. In 1987, they moved to Crookston.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Greg (Jana), Euclid; a daughter, Debbie (Joe) Altepeter, Euclid; five grandchildren; brothers, Delbert, Warren, Minn., Andy, Richfield, Minn., Ardell, North Glenn, Colo., and David, Apex, N.C.; and sisters, May McGraw, Roy, Utah, Irene Brock, Arvada, Colo., Grace Griffin, Carmichael, Calif., Darlene Sitko, Stillwater, Minn., and Mary Lou Habermann, Kandiyohi, Minn.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; and sisters, Ruth Kotrba and Martha Kotrba.
Services: 1: 30 p.m. Monday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Crookston.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.
