CRYSTAL, N.D. -- Dennis D. Dietrich, 53, Billings, Mont., formerly of Crystal, died
Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, in Billings.
Dennis Dean Dietrich was born
March 22, 1945, the son of Louis and Irene (Flint) Dietrich, in Grafton, N.D. He grew up and graduated from high school in Crystal. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was a self-employed carpet installer.
He is survived by sons, Karl and Brett, both of Baldwin, Wis.; his mother, Irene (Wilmer) Thorwaldson, Cavalier; his father, Louis (Evelyn), Crystal; brothers, Gary (Peggy), Cavalier, and Tracy (Carol), Park River, N.D.; and a sister-in-law, Debra Deitrich, Pengilly, Minn.
He was preceded in death
by a sister, Carol Hoekstra; and a brother, James.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, St. John's Lutheran Church, Crystal.
Burial: St. John's Lutheran Cemetery

Albena Westerlind
Albena Westerlind, 91, Bismarck, formerly of Grand Forks, died
Dec. 9, 1998, in the Garrison (N.D.) Nursing Home.
Albena Boschee was born
Nov. 22, 1907, the daughter of Matt and Katarina (Hiedt) Boschee, in Kassel, Russia. She moved with her parents to the United States in May 1909 and settled in Grand Forks. In the fall of 1915, she moved to McClusky, N.D. She married
Victor Westerlind in 1924. They lived in Mercer, N.D. Victor Westerlind died
in 1958. She moved to Bismarck. She worked for Baptist Homes, Prince Hotel, GP Hotel and St. Vincent's Nursing Home.
She is survived by daughters, Esther Schock and Limnea Milligan, both of Manteca, Calif., Gena Long, Forest Grove, Ore., Helga Semmel, Bismarck, and Della Bruning, Orlando, Fla.; sons, Palmer (Nelda), Grand Marais, Minn., Franklin, Markham, Ill., and Arlo (Cheryl), Grand Forks; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold (Helda) and Paul (Ruth), all of Forsyth, Mont., and Meinhardt, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and sisters, Gertrude (Dale) Darrow, of Washington, and Lillie Bliele, Anaconda, Mont.
She was preceded in death
by a sister, Kathie; and a brother, John.
Services: Were held in Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck.
Burial: Mercer Cemetery

Bernice Hagstrom Pearson
Bernice Hagstrom Pearson, 63, 1115 Third Ave. N.W., East Grand Forks, died

Bernice Ann Hardy was born
April 6, 1935, the daughter of Phil and Helen (Hipsher) Hardy, in Warroad, Minn. She grew up and attended school in East Grand Forks. She married
Glenn Hagstrom on Oct. 26, 1951, in Crookston. They lived in East Grand Forks. Glenn Hagstrom preceded her in death. She married
Arlo Pearson in 1985, in East Grand Forks. She worked for Frito-Lay, Western Potato Co. and the Econo motel and was a daycare provider.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Richard (Nancy), and Robert (Joan), both of East Grand Forks; daughters, Laurie (Robert) Korth, Grand Forks, and Linda Hagstrom, East Grand Forks; stepsons, Arlyn (Audrey) Pearson, Grand Forks, and Brian (Margaret) Pearson, Montgomery, Ill.; stepdaughters, Denise (Leon) Lewis, and JoEllen (Mike) Purdy, both of Sioux Falls, S.D.; six grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack (June), and Willard (Mary), both of Fairbanks, Alaska, Willis (Barbara), Pablo, Wash., and Donald Haines, Washington, D.C.; and sisters, Phyllis (James "Woody") Aarhus, East Grand Forks, Beverly (Leonard) Heppner, Warroad, and Alice (Duane) Smith, Hastings, Minn.

by a brother, Kenneth.

Leslie E. Mercer
TOLNA, N.D. -- Leslie E. Mercer, 88, Tolna, died
Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, in California.
Leslie Earl Mercer was born
March 29, 1910 the son of Earl and Edith (Rombough) Mercer, in Starkweather, N.D. He grew up in the area and attended school in Crary, N.D. He worked for several area farmers. He married
Sarah Ackerman on Nov. 14, 1931, in Devils Lake. They farmed in the Doyon and Tolna area. Sarah Mercer died
in 1986. He married
Evelyn Peterson in June 1987 in Doyon.
He is survived by his wife; sons, John (Lois), Lakota, N.D., and Donald (Treva) Giltner, Neb.; a daughter, Doris (Tony) Poswinski, Wilmington, Del.; a stepson, Owen (Kathy) Peterson, California; a stepdaughter, Judy (Mike) Burton, California; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys, California; and a brother, Roy, Devils Lake.
He was preceded in death
by two grandsons; a great-grandson; and sisters, Dorothy and Frances.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aaker Funeral Chapel, Lakota.

Gweneath L. Juntunen
ROLLA, N.D. -- Gweneath L. Juntunen, 86, Twin Falls, Idaho, formerly of Rolla, died
Saturday, Jan. 2, 1998, in Twin Falls.
Gweneath Guenther was born
Sept. 21, 1912, the daughter of Herman and Vena (Vogel) Guenther, in Rolla, where she graduated from high school. She attended UND, studying English and history. She married
Edwin Juntunen in 1935 in Rolla. He died
April 2, 1967.
She is survived by sons, Chuck (Karen), Madison Lake, Minn., and Roger (Cheryl), Twin Falls; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: Were held in Rolla.
Burial: Rolla Cemetery
in the spring.
Annetta S. Durant
CROOKSTON -- Annetta S. Durant, 85, Crookston, died
Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, in Riverview Hospital, Crookston.
Annetta S. Klooz was born
May 16, 1913, the daughter of Jacob and Sophia (Brandner) Klooz, in Eureka, S.D. She moved with her family to Crookston in 1927, where she attended school. She married
James Robert Johnson in 1930 in Crookston. She worked at Blackie's Cafe, the Great Northern Cafe, Northwood Inn, St. Francis Hospital and St. Vincent's Hospital, all of Crookston. She married
Marshall Peet in the early 1950s. They lived in Crookston until moving to Minneapolis in 1956, where she worked for Old Dutch Potato Co. Marshall Peet died
in 1963. She owned and operated Pete's Resort on Big Sandy Lake, McGregor, Minn. She married
Charles Durant in 1964 in McGregor. They moved to Red Lake Falls-Plummer, Minn., area in 1968 and worked on the Vernon Plante farm. In 1983 she moved to Crookston. She became a resident of Riverview Nursing Home in 1993.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Beryl) Radke, Crookston; sons, Larry Johnson, Crookston, and Clayton (Linda) Johnson, Hastings, Minn.; a son-in-law, Donald Fontaine, Crookston; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; stepsons, Edwin (Catherine) Peet, Circle Pines, Minn., and Dennis Peet, McGregor; stepdaughters, Elizabeth Watson, New Hope, Minn., Arlene (Jack) Sherman and Linda (Jim) Boerner, both of Annandale, Minn., Betty (John) Bone, Oxford, Kan., Sharon Rausch and Ruth Ann (Morris) Cantin, both of Minneapolis, and JoAnne (Duane) Walker, Blaine, Minn.; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers, August and Edward (Clara), both of Crookston; and a sister, Many Okerlund, Big Fork, Minn.
She was preceded in death
by a son, Donald Johnson; a daughter, Betty Fontaine; and two grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday in Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
Leo W. Hansen
DEVILS LAKE -- Leo W. Hansen, 74, Devils Lake, formerly of Starkweather, N.D., died
Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Leo Walter Hansen was born
Oct. 11, 1924, the son of Walter and Maria (Peterson) Hansen, in Starkweather, where he graduated from high school in 1943. He worked on area farms in Starkweather, and later with his father and for himself. In 1992, he retired and moved into Starkweather. He moved to the Odd Fellows Home, Devils Lake, and later to the Good Samaritan.
He is survived by a sister, Doris (Emanuel) Flaig, West Fargo; and a brother-in-law, Keith Redfield, Alexandria, Minn.
He was preceded in death
by a sister, Ruby Redfield.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday in Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Church, Starkweather.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Trinity-Bergen Cemetery, Starkweather.
Violet Rodseth
CROOKSTON -- Violet Rodseth, 86, Crookston, died
Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home, Crookston, where she had lived since Dec. 29, 1998.
Violet Axelson was born
June 24, 1912, the daughter of John and Jennie (Olson) Axelson, in Crookston, where she graduated from high school in 1930. She worked as a housekeeper and then for Woolworth's Store. She married
Norman Rodseth on Feb. 22, 1947, in Crookston. She retired in 1974. Norman Rodseth died
May 10, 1996. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, John, Crookston; and a sister-in-law, Anita Axelson, San Diego.
She was preceded in death
by brothers, Roy and John; and sisters, Lillian Bailey, Veinis Ellingson and Esther Wald.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday in Evangelical Covenant Church, Crookston.

Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, in Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.
Lester Tilman Goodwin Michaelson was born
Nov. 4, 1913, the son of Ole and Helen (Dale) Michaelson, in Dover Township, Griggs County, where he attended school. He farmed with his brother in Dover Township, and worked for area farmers. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He became a resident of Hi-Acres in 1987.
He is survived by a sister, Hazel Long, Superior, Mont.
Services: 1: 30 p.m. Saturday in Eidfjord Lutheran Church, Walum, N.D.
Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m. today in Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, N.D., and one hour before services in the church.

Carl Ackerland
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Carl Ackerland, 91, Park River, died
Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, N.D.
Carl Ackerland was born
Jan. 21, 1907, the son of Ole and Tonelete (Severson) Ackerland, in Lankin, N.D. He attended school in Park River. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He lived in Boise, Idaho and Chicago. He retired in Grand Forks and later moved to Grafton, N.D. In January 1998, he moved to Wedgewood Manor.
He is survived by a sister, Ella Hagen, Grafton; and a brother, Oliy, Park River.
He was preceded in death
by brothers, Emil and Ted.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday in Tollefson Funeral Home, Grafton.

Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River.
Donna Alby
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Donna Alby, 60, Thief River Falls, died

Donna Mae Stone was born
Oct. 3, 1938, the daughter of Henry Clifford and Ruth Elizabeth (Westlund) Stone, in Thief River Falls, where she graduated from high school in 1956. She moved to California in 1956. She married
Joe Cavett Robinson in December 1957. They lived in California until 1972, when they returned to Thief River Falls to care for her mother. She worked at the phone company in Los Angeles and was in the food business. She married
Ron Alby on July 18, 1981, in Thief River Falls. She worked at Rose's Catering, Thief River Falls, and Lon's Restaurant, and managed KFC. She worked for Hardee's in Thief River Falls.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Tabbi Ann Robinson, Pasadena, Calif., and Bobbi Jo (Barry) Cole, Tucson, Ariz.; a son, James Clifford Robinson, of California; a brother, Hal, Warren, Minn.; and a sister, Jean (Robert) Smith, Baxter Springs, Kan.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; a sister, Harriet (Herbert) Peterson; a brother, Earl; and an infant brother.

Anna Stedman
CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Anna Stedman, 80, Carrington, died
Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999, in Golden Acres Manor, Carrington, where she had lived since 1994.
Anna Nygaard was born
Feb. 2, 1918, the daughter of Sven Emil and Christina (Johaneson) Nygaard, in Ingomar, Mont. In 1919, they moved to Barlow, N.D. She married
Clarence Stedman on Feb. 4, 1936, in Carrington. They farmed in Foster County, N.D. In 1988, they moved to Carrington. Clarence Stedman died
Sept. 30, 1994.
She is survived by a son, Arlo (Elaine), Glenfield, N.D.; daughters, Charlotte (Charlie) Edwards, Badger, Iowa, and Marion (Clifford) Beardsley, Gowen, Mich.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brothers, John, Hawthorne, Calif., and Arden, Jamestown.
She was preceded in death
by a son, Clinton; and a brother, Stanley.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday in Faith Baptist Church, Carrington.
Visitation: Noon to 6 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, all in Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
