at home.
Gerald Stoltman was born
June 13, 1937, the son of Ambrose and Gertrude (Mozinski) Stoltman, in Grafton. He grew up and attended school in Minto, N.D., and Hanson Mechanical Trade School, Fargo. He did body work in the area and farm work. He joined the U.S. Air Force from Sept. 26, 1957 to Sept. 8, 1960. He married
Adeline Paschke on June 6, 1970, in Warsaw, N.D.
He is survived by children, Daniel, Pembina, N.D., Duane, Thief River Falls, Darlene (David) Stremick, Grand Forks, Darrell, Hankinson, N.D., Doris Stoltman, Wahpeton, N.D., and Dale, Minto; one grandson; his mother, Grafton; sisters, Rita Rudnik, Minto, and Bertha Tibert, Fargo; and a brother, William, Dazey, N.D.
He was preceded in death
by his father.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery

Lyle J. Bina
PARK RIVER, N.D. -- Lyle J. Bina, 60, Park River, died
Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, in St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River.
Lyle J. Bina was born
Sept. 28, 1937, the son of William and Leona (Sherek) Bina, in Grafton, N.D. He graduated from Walsh County Ag School, Park River, and attended UND and Mayville (N.D.) State. He joined the U.S. Army Jan. 29, 1957 to Nov. 21, 1958. He worked in highway patrol then in building construction in Chicago, Baton Rouge, La., Los Angeles, Hereford, Texas, and Winterhaven, Fla. He married
Maureen Flynn on July 5, 1975, in Los Angeles. He returned to Lankin in 1987.
He is survived by a daughter, Michelle Bina, Grand Forks; a son, Scott Logan, Des Moines, Iowa; a brother, Michael, Indianapolis; and a companion, Jana, Park River.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Services: 10 a.m. today, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Lankin.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery

Lily A. DuBois
FORT TOTTEN, N.D. -- Lily A. DuBois, 91, Fort Totten, died
Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Lily McKay was born
Nov. 12, 1906, the daughter of Luke Hepanzi and Mary Louise (Hdiwankewin) McKay, in Fort Totten. She grew up on Spirit Lake Reservation and attended school in Fort Totten and Genoa, Neb. She graduated high school from Lawrence, Kan. She worked for BIA and Green Thumb Program. She married
Alfred DuBois Jr. on Dec. 27, 1933.
She is survived by daughters, Myrtle Gillis, Belcourt, N.D., Verna (Dr. Murton) McClusky, Great Falls, Mont., and Agnes (Clifford) Littlewind, Fort Totten; a son, Les (Delila) DuBois, Lakewood, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death
by her husband; brothers, Henry, Alphonse, Gabriel, Joseph, Jesse, Michael and Patrick McKay; and a sister, Margaret Two Hearts.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten.
Visitation: Begins 5 p.m. today in Fort Totten Recreation Center.

Hazel A. Ewert
LANGDON, N.D. -- Hazel A. Ewert, 89, Langdon, formerly of Munich, N.D., died
Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, in Maple Manor Care Center, Langdon.
Hazel A. Schields was born
June 24, 1909, the daughter of Herman and Anna (Regier) Schields, in Munich, where she attended school. She received her teaching certificate from Mayville (N.D.) State Teacher's College, and taught in rural schools. She married
John Ewert on Oct. 15, 1933, in Alsen, N.D. They made their home in Munich, where they farmed. They moved and farmed on her parents' homestead in Munich. They retired in 1973, and moved into Munich. In July 1996, they moved to Devils Lake. John Ewert died
Dec. 14, 1996. In February 1998, she moved to Maple Manor Care Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Gladys Callahan, Arvada, Colo.; sons, John Jr. (Loretta), Munich, and Milton (Patricia), Yakima, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by a granddaughter; and a sister, Esther Wuthnow.
Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Salem Mennonite Church, Munich.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
Burial: Rosehill Cemetery, rural Alsen.
James C. Sherry
CROOKSTON -- James C. Sherry, 74, Crookston, died
Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, in Riverview Nursing Home, Crookston, where he had lived since Aug. 18, 1998.
James C. Sherry was born
June 20, 1924, the son of James and Anna (Marinko) Sherry, in Tabor, Minn., where he attended school. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force from Jan. 20, 1945 to Dec. 29, 1946. He then farmed in Euclid Township, Polk County, Minn. He married
Bernice Schulz on Oct. 11, 1950, in Euclid. They retired from farming in 1985. He helped his son, Greg, farm until this past spring. In 1987, they moved to Crookston.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Greg (Jana), Euclid; a daughter, Debbie (Joe) Altepeter, Euclid; five grandchildren; brothers, Delbert, Warren, Minn., Andy, Richfield, Minn., Ardell, North Glenn, Colo., and David, Apex, N.C.; and sisters, May McGraw, Roy, Utah, Irene Brock, Arvada, Colo., Grace Griffin, Carmichael, Calif., Darlene Sitko, Stillwater, Minn., and Mary Lou Habermann, Kandiyohi, Minn.
He was preceded in death
by a granddaughter; and sisters, Ruth Kotrba and Martha Kotrba.
Services: 1: 30 p.m. Monday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Crookston.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, and one hour before services in the church.

Kathryn 'Pat' Burianek
MINTO, N.D. -- Kathryn "Pat" Burianek, 80, Sunset, La., formerly of Minto, died
Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, in Doctor's Hospital, Opelousas, La.
She is survived by a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Mary Kohl, Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, John, on April 22, 1997; and a son, James.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto.

Clara L. Peoples
GRAFTON, N.D. -- Clara L. Peoples, 96, Grafton, died
Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, in Unity Medical Center, Grafton.
Clara L. Hagen was born
Aug. 5, 1902, the daughter of Ole and Anne (Daley) Hagen, in Hoople, N.D. She attended school in Hoople and Park River, N.D. She worked at the Grafton Developmental Center. She married
Martin Odegaard in 1921. He died
in June 1964. She married
Art Tallackson in 1966. He died
in February 1970. She married
William Peoples in 1981. He died
in March 1990.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by three infant children; sisters, Ida Odegaard and Hilda Lake; and a brother, Ingvald.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Grafton Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Chapel of the Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton, and one hour before services in the church.

Myrtle Craig
CAVALIER, N.D. -- Myrtle Craig, 82, Cavalier, died
Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Myrtle Patzer was born
June 24, 1916, the daughter of Michael and Amelia (Hildebrandt) Patzer, in Emerson, Man., where she attended school. She married
Kermit Craig on Dec. 28, 1946, in Humboldt, Minn. They farmed in Bathgate and Hamilton, N.D. In 1977, they moved to Cavalier. Kermit Craig died
March 13, 1981.
He is survived by a son, Gerald (Linda), Sunnyside, Wash.; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; sisters, Hilda Wood and Elsie Fenske, both of Winnipeg; and a brother, Charlie, Fort Atkinson, Wis.
He was preceded in death
by two infant children; brothers, Adolph, Theodore and Edward; and a sister, Emma.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today and one hour before services in the funeral home.

Helga Parker
ROLLA, N.D. -- Helga Parker, 103, Rolla, formerly of Devils Lake, died
Aug. 20, 1998, at home.
Helga Louise Rasmussen was born
Sept. 15, 1894, the daughter of Anton and Julia (Larson) Rasmussen, in Odessa Township, Ramsey County, N.D., where she attended school. She attended Mayville (N.D.) Normal School. She taught at rural schools including in Fort Totten, N.D., and was a girl's matron in the boarding school. She married
Wesley Dwight Parker on July 31, 1921, in Michigan, N.D. They lived at Sully's Hill National Game Refuge, where they did the daily management. In 1958, they moved to Devils Lake. Wesley Parker died
in January 1963. She moved to Rolla in 1989.
She is survived by daughters, Alice (Dr. Glen) McIntosh, Boulder, Colo., and Mae (H. Weyburn) Niewoehner, Rolla; a son, John (Arlis), Faribault, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by a daughter, Mary Strecker; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 4 to 9 p.m. today, Aaker, Dunnigan & Brooks, Devils Lake.

Dr. Charles S. Holt
BEMIDJI -- Dr. Charles S. Holt, 61, Bemidji, died
Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, after a long battle with lymphoma.
Charles Steele Holt was born
June 18, 1937, the son of Charles and Margaret (Nichols) Holt, in Chicago. He attended the University of Chicago Lab School and later received his bachelor's degree from Beloit College in 1959. He received his master's degree in hydrobiology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1962. In 1965, he received his doctorate in fisheries biology from the University of Minnesota. He married
Lynne Kopecky on June 29, 1963, in Chicago. In 1965, he joined the faculty of Bemidji State University, where he taught in the biology department. He taught at National Science Foundation Summer Institute for High School Teachers at Bemidji State University. He was the faculty supervisor in Student Research Projects, which included the Biotelemetry of Walleye of Lake Bemidji, Restoration of Hayes Lake in Roseau, Minn., Ecology of the Chestnut Lamprey, Seven Lakes Water Quality Study and the Lake Bemidji Watershed Study, Phase 1 and 2. He retired in 1993. He was also the director of Eurospring program in 1982 and 1988.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Phillip (Shawn), Shoreview, Minn., and Steven, Belleville, Mich.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Charles Holt Scholarship Fund at Bemdiji State University.
Greta C. Vandeventer
Greta C. Vandeventer, 66, 1800 Fifth Ave N.W., East Grand Forks, died
Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at home.
Greta Claire Lenzen was born
May 1, 1932 in Fargo. She lived with her mother, Myrtle Lenzen in Grand Forks, where she attended school. She married
LeRoy Vandeventer on Feb. 4, 1950, in Crookston. They moved to Olympia, Wash., where she worked in the food service industry. In 1983, they moved to Thief River Falls. She was a manager of the Dean Boushee Property Management and a waitress at the Best Western in Thief River Falls. LeRoy Vandeventer died
in 1983. She moved to East Grand Forks, where she worked for Whitey's Cafe.
She is survived by daughters, Karen Wood, and Donna Marcotte, both of Grand Forks; a son, Robert, East Grand Forks; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. today, Stennes Funeral Home Chapel, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the chapel.
Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks.
