Nick A. Bachmeier
NORTHWOOD, N.D. -- Nick A. Bachmeier, 71, Northwood, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Nick A. Bachmeier was born Oct. 2, 1927, the son of Joseph and Helen (Voeller) Bachmeier, in Blumenfield, N.D., where he attended school. He married Pauline Schmidt on June 14, 1949, in Blumenfield. He worked as a carpenter for 50 years. He moved to Northwood in 1969.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Ralph (Darlene), Virginia Beach, Va., Charles (Maxine), Gerald and Clayton, all of Northwood, and Clem, Le High, Fla.; daughters, Leonida (Michael) Strande, Thompson, N.D., and Pauline Bachmeier, Grand Forks; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandson; brothers, Tony, Carrington, N.D., Leo, Tacoma, Wash., Phillip, Great Falls, Mont., Ben, Minot, Adam, Orrin, N.D., and Joe, Towner, N.D.; and sisters, Magdelina Duchscherer and Helen Koble, both of Drake, N.D., and Eva Duchscherer, Granville, N.D.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Judes Catholic Church, Thompson.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Bilden Funeral Home, Northwood.
Burial: St. Jude Cemetery.
Jens Tveito
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Jens Tveito, 75, New Rockford, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, in Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.
Jens Tveito was born Sept. 13, 1923, the son of Sever and Signe (Benson) Tveito, in Gates Township, Eddy County, N.D. He attended school in Sheyenne, N.D. He worked on the family farm and as a farm laborer in the Sheyenne area. In 1981, he entered the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd.
He is survived by sisters, Thelma (Clifford) Lindstrom, Sheyenne, Ida (William) Tedrow, New Rockford; brothers, Gerhard (Joyce), Mandan, and Ervin (Helen), Sacramento, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Tveito, New Rockford.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Theodore, Arthur, Pedar, Selmer and Ben; half-brothers, Iver, Lewis, Bert and Mike; and half sisters, Anna and Sena.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Grandfield Lutheran Church, Sheyenne.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 7: 30 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Grandfield Lutheran Cemetery.
Julia Johnson
Julia Johnson, 93, 1639 24th Ave S., died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, in Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks.
Julia Reisdorfer was born June 26, 1905, the daughter of Theadore and Mary (Holzmer) Reisdorfer in Adrian, Minn., where she attended school. She married John Winter on June 26, 1925, in Mantador, N.D. They farmed in Marietta, Minn. They moved to Grand Forks from Wahpeton in 1954. John Winter died Sept. 29, 1961. She married Nick Johnson on Oct. 15, 1964, in Grand Forks.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Rose Marie (Raymond) Schafer and Lorraine Lindberg, both of Grand Forks; sons, Fred (Bea) and Michael (Irene), both of Prescott, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack, Eagle Grove, Iowa, formerly of Lakota, N.D.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Susie; and brothers, Bernard, Frank, Matt and Alphonse.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, S. Washington St.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral chapel.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.
George A. Beaver
NIAGARA, N.D. -- George A. Beaver, 64, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at home.
George Anson Beaver was born Aug. 30, 1934, the son of Clifford and Lily (Swanson) Beaver, in Arvilla Township, Grand Forks County, Arvilla, N.D., where he attended school. He married Mary Weeks Brady in January 1975. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and later in Colorado and Kansas as a farm manager. They moved to Niagara on June 1, 1990, where he worked for the city of Niagara until retiring in September 1998.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Michael (Dorothy), Niagara, and Rick, Larimore, N.D.; daughters, Bonnie (Raymond) Guanti, Baltimore, Md., and Janell (Brent) Trosen, Larimore; step-daughters, Donell Brady, Carthage, Mo., Belinda (Robert) Tatum, Litiz, Pa., and Patricia (Frank) Luther, Florence Colo.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn (Norwood) Snyder, Larimore, and Marianne (Warren) Snyder, Arvilla; and a sister-in-law, Ethel Beaver, Niagara.
He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Bobbie Faye McChennesy; his parents; and a brother, Donald.
Services: Noon Wednesday, St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Larimore.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Arvilla Cemetery.
John Klein
ROLETTE, N.D. -- John Klein, 74, Rolette, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, in Presentation Care Center, Rolette.
John Bernard Klein was born July 4, 1924, the son of John and Margaret (Heinz) Klein, in Bisbee, N.D. He attended school in Bisbee and Mylo, N.D. He was a lifetime farmer on the Klein family farm in Agate, N.D. He retired in 1990. He entered the Presentation Care Center in June 1998.
He is survived by sisters, Bernice Halvorson, Rugby, N.D., and Alice Lagein, Rock Lake, N.D.; and a brother, Joseph, Rolla, N.D.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Bisbee.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. today, Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando, N.D.
Burial: Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery.
William 'Bruce' Alexander
ROLLA, N.D. -- William "Bruce" Alexander, 92, Rolla, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, in Presentation Medical Center.
William Alexander was born March 30, 1906, the son of William and Lyda (Bankard) Alexander, in Rolla, where he attended school. He is a lifelong farmer in Rolla.
He is survived by a sister, Yvonne Simmet, Gilby, N.D.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Niewoehner Funeral Home, Rolla.
Burial: St. Michael's Cemetery, Rolla.
Mildred G. Scharath
Mildred G. Scharath, 76, Grand Forks, formerly of Niagara, N.D., died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998.
Mildred Genevieve Kelly was born Dec. 7, 1922, the daughter of Cliff and Lillian (Pickard) Kelly, in Niagara. She attended school in Petersburg and Valley City, N.D. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She married Alfred Scharath Jr. She worked at the Grand Forks Air Force Base in accounting and finance. She is survived by daughters, Annette Scharath, Denver, and Roberta Ricco, Chardon, Ohio; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Roscoe, Niagara; and a sister, Gladys Hildre, Cocoa Beach, Fla.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joe; and a sister, Dorothy Gannon.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday in United Lutheran Church, Grand Forks.
Geneva Tollefson
DEVILS LAKE -- Geneva Tollefson, 88, Devils Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Geneva Strohecker was born Oct. 4, 1910, the daughter of Milton and Mary (Marsh) Strohecker, in Devils Lake. She graduated from Webster (N.D.) High School. She attended Minot State Teachers College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught at a rural school and in Webster. She married Lawren Tollefson on June 27, 1946, in Devils Lake. They lived in Devils Lake. She worked as deputy county superintendent of schools of Ramsey County, N.D., and part time for the home extension agent in Ramsey County, until retiring. Lawren Tollefson died July 19, 1990. She moved to Good Samaritan Center in the fall of 1997.
She is survived by a sister, Harriet Sten, Paramount, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Alma Tollefson, Devils Lake.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Harry, Gordon and Robert.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in Gilbertson Funeral Home, and before services in the church.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.
John W. 'Jack' Robinson
John W. "Jack" Robinson, 65, 1395A S. Columbia Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, in Altru Hospital.
John William Robinson was born Oct. 12, 1933, the son of William and Gladys (Bonlie) Robinson, in Cando, N.D. He attended school in Manvel, N.D., and graduated from high school in Emerado, N.D., in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from June 11, 1953 to May 12, 1955. He worked as a civil engineer for Dillingham Construction Co., San Francisco, and was assigned to work in Vietnam, Isreal, South America, Turkey, Africa, Sri Lanka and Egypt. He retired in 1993 and moved to Grand Forks.
He is survived by a sister, Nancy (Bill) Eagleson, Milton, N.D.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday in Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
Visitation: One hour before services in Amundson Funeral Home.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Ray Clairmont
WALHALLA, N.D. -- Ray Clairmont, 64, Mandan, N.D., formerly of Walhalla, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at home.
Ray Clairmont was born March 13, 1934, the son of Emil and Mae (Bisenius) Clairmont, in Walhalla. He attended school in Walhalla and graduated from Walsh County Agricultural School, Park River, N.D. He farmed with his father in the Polar Grove, N.D. area. He married Idella Hell. He continued to farm near Walhalla until joining his brother, William, in the construction business. He married Evie Burkholder on Sept. 30, 1966, in Aberdeen, S.D. He continued to work construction and in 1975, he started his own construction company, RAYCO. He worked in many states, including North Dakota, New Mexico, Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska. He also worked for the Country West Real Estate Co., Bismarck.
He is survived by his wife, Evie, Finley, N.D.; sons, Audie (Candace), Elsie, Mich., and Rodney (Melody), Portland, Ore; daughters, Maureen (Victor) Welsh and Carla (Tim) Hubbard, both of Portland, Debbie (Bob) Haake, Minnetonka, Minn., Becky (Tim) Zielger, Bismarck, Sabrina (Chuck) Landtroop, Merkel, Texas, and Kim (Todd) Novisky, Gilbert, Ariz.; stepdaughters, Bonnie (Floyd) Norton, Temple, Texas, Linda (Gary) Bergstrom, Finley, Lynnette (Steve) Pruitt, Arlington, Texas, and Suzan (Scott) Bosard, Humble, Texas; 43 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, William (Pat), Bismarck, and Donald, Walhalla; and sisters, Gloria (Emil) Gendreau and LaRae (Leo) Hornung, both of Walhalla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Delores; and brothers, Jack and Leo.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla.
Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. today, Nelson Funeral Home, Walhalla, with a 7 p.m. prayer service in the church.
Burial: Church cemetery.
Sylvia M. Flom
GRAFTON, N.D. -- Sylvia M. Flom, 96, Grafton, formerly of Edinburg, N.D., died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in Good Samaritan Center, Park River, N.D., where she had lived since June 1997.
Sylvia M. Oakland was born Jan. 16, 1902, the daughter of Daniel and Ingeborg (Skaug) Oakland, in Bayview, Ore. She attended school in Farmington, Wash., and Nekoma, N.D. In 1912, they moved to Climax, Sask. She later returned to Nekoma and then to Edinburg. She married Johnnie Flom on June 10, 1922, in Grand Forks. They farmed in Tiber Township, Walsh County, N.D., until retiring in 1966. In 1969, they moved to Grafton. Johnnie Flom died April 7, 1976.
She is survived by two grandsons; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Tena Lutz, Medicine Hat, Alta., Inga Berg, Climax, Sask., and Clara Toudy, Calgary, Alta.;
She was preceded in death by a son, Melford; a daughter, Tean Ilean; a grandson; six brothers; and two sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Edinburg.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery, Milton, N.D.
