Joseph V. Schiele, 87, formerly of 115 18th Ave. S., died
Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in Valley Memorial Home-Eldercare, Grand Forks.
Joseph V. Schiele was born
Jan. 14, 1912, the son of John and Regina (Buckhard) Schiele, in Devils Lake. He attended school in Ramsey County. He worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department, Devils Lake. He served in the U.S. Navy from May 16, 1942, to June 11, 1945, during World War II. He married
Gunda Axtman on Nov. 27, 1945, in Devils Lake. He worked for Chevrolet Co., Devils Lake. In 1960, they moved to Grand Forks, where he worked for Wilcox and Malm Cadillac. In 1961 he began working for Rydell Chevrolet Co. He also worked for Holy Family Catholic Church and School until retiring. Gunda Schiele died
Nov. 27, 1961.
He is survived by a stepson, Robert (Lois) Axtman, Grand Forks; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Julia Kraft, Lakota, N.D., Christine (Mac) Graham, Olympia, Wash., and Catherine (Wendelin) Senger, Gully, Minn.; and brothers, Bert (Bernice), Olympia, and Philip, Devils Lake.
He was preceded in death
by sisters, Theresa and Eva; and brothers, Andrew, John and Jack.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, St. Joseph's Parish Center Chapel, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Norman Funeral Home, Columbia Road, Grand Forks, and one hour before service in the church.
Burial: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Devils Lake.

Morris B. Helland
MICHIGAN, N.D. -- Morris B. Helland, 88, Michigan, died
Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at home.
Morris B. Helland was born
July, 12, 1910, the son of Edward and Tina (Holen) Helland, near Whitman, N.D., where he attended school. He farmed with his parents and later worked as a farm laborer and a mechanic. He moved into Whitman in 1974. In 1994 he moved to Michigan, where he lived with his niece, Clarine Ruud and her husband Harold.
He is survived by a niece, Clarine (Harold) Ruud, Michigan; and a nephew, Marvin Sr. (Lavina) Helland, Anamoose, N.D.
He was preceded in death
by a brother, Elvin.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sarnia Lutheran Church, Whitman.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home, McVille, N.D., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: East Sarnia Cemetery, Whitman.
Katherine Foley
Katherine Foley, 82, 1503 S. 18th St., died
Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in Northwood (N.D.) Deaconess Health Center.
Katherine Dalke was born
May 30, 1916, the daughter of David and Katherine (Lowen) Dalke, in Cordell, Okla. She moved with her parents to Canada, where she attended school and trained to be a professional seamstress and dressmaker. She owned and operated a shop in Morden, Man. She returned to the United State, where she became a board certified dental assistant. She married
Dr. Dale Foley on Dec. 23, 1955, in Hillsboro, Kan. They moved to Grand Forks. She worked as a dental assistant with her husband for 37 years.
She is survived by her husband; a son, David Foley, Calgary, Alta.; a daughter, Katie Hurley, Topeka, Kan.; a grandson; a brother, Arnold (Nettie), Morden; sisters, Olga Dyck, Carman, Man., and Edna (Bert) Klassen, Rosenfeld, Man.
She was preceded in death
by brothers, Cornelius and John; and a sister, Linda.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Bergthaler Mennonite Church, Morden.

Frances C. Drivold
CROOKSTON -- Frances C. Drivold, 93, Crookston, formerly of Beltrami, Minn., died
Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in Riverview Nursing Home, Crookston.
Frances McNerney was born
Dec. 21, 1905, the daughter of James and Ruth (Lent) McNerney, in Stillwater, Minn. She moved to Beltrami in the early 1930s and taught grade school. She moved to Duluth, where she attended the University of Minnesota. She received a bachelor of science degree in special education. She taught in Duluth for several years. She married
Rudolph Drivold on July 1, 1947. They lived in Beltrami, where she continued to teach and was also principal. From 1957 to 1971, she taught special education in Crookston. Rudolph Drivold died
in 1986. She moved to Crookston.
She is survived by friends.
She was preceded in death
by a sister, Ruth Tayler; and a brother, Bernard.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Crookston.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Beltrami (Stenshoel-Houske, Crookston).
Myrtle E. 'Myrt' Schmid
CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Myrtle E. "Myrt" Schmid, 54, Carrington, died
Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in Dakota Heartland Hospital, Fargo.
Myrtle Esther Heinle was born
May 6, 1944, the daughter of Carl and Freida Heinle, in Woodworth, N.D., where she attended school. She graduated from high school in Medina, N.D. She attended Valley City (N.D.) State University, where she obtained her elementary teaching degree. She taught in New Rockford, N.D. until 1967. She taught in West Fargo until returning to New Rockford. Because of her health, she quit teaching in 1971. In the early 1980s, she began teaching kindergarten in Carrington. She also had taught first, second and third grade.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Chris, Bowbells, N.D., Nathan (Bobbie Jo), Wahpeton, N.D., and Tim, New Rockford; a granddaughter; a brother, Clarence (Ethel), Woodworth; and a sister, Darlene (Vern) Bender, Bismarck.
She was preceded in death
by her parents.
Services: 3: 30 p.m. Tuesday, Carrington high School Gymnasium.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8: 30 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., all in Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Ruth M. Boe
PORTLAND, N.D. -- Ruth M. Boe, 67, Portland, died
Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Ruth M. Offerdahl was born
July 2, 1931, the daughter of Alfred and Alma (Hanson) Offerdahl, in Hatton, N.D., where she graduated from high school, in 1949. She married
Peter Boe Jr. on Dec. 28, 1957, in Hatton. They moved to Portland in 1963.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Julie (Mark) Paulson, Perham, Minn.; sons, Ron (Connie) and Steve (Julie), both of Fargo; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; sisters, Margaret (Bud) Anderson and Audrey Spille, both of Bloomington, Minn.; a brother, Robert (Curty), Clitherall, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Yvonne Offerdahl, Hatton.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; and a brother, Arland.

Seymour M. Starkson
CROOKSTON -- Seymour M. Starkson, 94, Crookston, formerly of Fordville, N.D., died
Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in Villa St. Vincent, Crookston, where he had lived since Aug. 1, 1994.
Seymour Melvin Starkson was born
Dec. 28, 1904, the son of Sever and Andrina (Severson) Starkson, in Fordville. He attended school in the Fordville area. He married
Stella Nelson on Nov. 27, 1938, in Fordville. He farmed on the family farm.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Avonne Dewar, Grand Forks, and Marlene (Dale) Johnson, Crookston; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Norville (Edythe) Starkson, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death
by a son, Eugene; six sisters; and two brothers.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Quale Lutheran Church, Fordville.

Margaret Kvasnicka
LAKOTA, N.D. -- Margaret Kvasnicka, 80, Lakota, formerly of Lawton, N.D., died
Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Margaret Roubal was born
Jan. 3, 1919, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Herda) Roubal, in Lawton, where she attended school. She worked in the Lawton area. She married
Frank Kvasnicka on July 3, 1950, in Lawton. They lived and farmed in the Lawton area. In 1957, they retired and moved into Lawton. Frank Kvasnicka died
Feb. 14, 1988. She moved to Lakota in 1996.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Irene Balek, Lawton.
She was preceded in death
by brothers, Joseph and Emil; and sisters, Annie Shimchuk and Rose Thorson.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aaker Funeral Chapel, Lakota.

Marcella 'Marcy' Moen
GILBY, N.D. -- Marcella "Marcy" Moen, 75, Gilby, died
Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at home.
Marcella B. Jones was born
June 17, 1923, the daughter of George and Clementine (Johnson) Jones, in Gilby, where she attended school. She married
Maurice Moen on May 6, 1950, in Grand Forks. She worked for J.R. Simplot in Grand Forks from 1967 until her retirement in 1985.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Allan, Greg (Cora) and Gary (Willie), all of Gilby, and Roger, Fargo; daughters, Nancy Moen, Gilby, Margaret (Mike) Flanagin, Thompson, N.D., and Theresa (Russell) Grabinski, Inkster, N.D.; 11 grandchildren; a brother, Cecil (Evelyn), Portland, Ore.; and a sister, Bella (Archie) Moen, San Franciso.
She was preceded in death
by a grandson; and a brother, Quintin.

Scott Alan Perkuhn was born
Nov. 5, 1968, the son of Richard and Laverne (Johnson) Perkuhn, in Minneapolis. He grew up and attended school in Devils Lake. He graduated from high school in 1988. He worked for Summers Manufacturing. He moved to Fargo in July 1998. He worked for Dakota Machine Incorporated, Fargo
He is survived by his parents, Crary; a son, Cole Hillebrand, Devils Lake; brothers, Brian, Devils Lake, and Todd, Colorado Springs, Colo.; sisters, Brenda (Randy) Nelson, Devils Lake, Bev (Mike) Bachmeier, Brockett, N.D., and Sandy (Bill) Robinson, San Antonio, Texas; grandmother, Margaret Perkuhn, Devils Lake; and fiancee, Barb Johnson, Fargo.
He was preceded in death
by grandparents, Fred and Vera Johnson and Fred Perkuhn.

Janet Smaaladen
ANETA, N.D. -- Janet Smaaladen, 79, Aneta, died
Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, in Aneta Parkview Health Center, where she had lived since Sept. 24, 1996.
Janet Rhynas was born
April 12, 1919, the daughter of David and Ida (Miller) Rhynas, in Aneta, where she attended school. She married
Edwin Smaaladen on Nov. 13, 1943, in Aneta. They lived and farmed in Aneta. She worked at the McVille (N.D.)Friendship Manor and Community Hospital for 20 years. Edwin Smaaladen died
June 8, 1988. She moved to McVille in August 1988.
She is survived by sisters, Jean Locken, Aneta, June (Gordon) Glimsdal, McVille, and Vivian Wheeler, Mary Kristianson and Shirley (Duane) Brandt, all of Seattle; and a sister-in-law Elaine "Peggy" Rhynas, Seattle.
She was preceded in death
by a daughter, Audrey Fay; a brother, Francis; and a sister, Ida Mae Miller.
