Eugene Marcotte
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Eugene Marcotte, 66, Fargo, formerly of New Rockford, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at home of cancer.
Eugene Marcotte was born Aug. 1, 1932, the son of Murel and Ethel Marcotte, in New Rockford, where he attended school. He married Merillyn Hall on July 17, 1952, in Carrington. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He graduated from Minot State University and began his teaching career. He retired from North Dakota State College of Science of Wahpeton in May 1991.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Jane (Jim) Clinkenbeard, Devils Lake, Karen (Steve) Nagel, Mandan, N.D., and Julie (Craig) McKay, Sioux Falls, S.D.; a granddaughter; his mother, Carrington; and sisters, LaVonne Foulet, Billings, Mont., and Colleen (Norb) Welle, Park Rapids, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Duane.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington.
Visitation: 1 to 8: 30 p.m. today, with a 5 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, all in Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery.
Military Rites: American Legion, John Raymond O'Hara Post No. 25 and VFW, McCreary-Bonderud Post No. 3524, Carrington.
Leonard R. Vondal
WALHALLA, N.D. -- Leonard R. Vondal, 69, Walhalla, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla.
Leonard R. Vondal was born Nov. 19, 1929, the son of Eugene and Susan (Furstenau) Vondal, in Walhalla, where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He lived in Hopkins, Minn., where he was a salesman at an automobile dealership. He retired and returned to Walhalla.
He is survived by a sister, Ruth (James) Beaton, Bloomington, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla. Memorials are suggested to the Pembilier Nursing Center, Walhalla. (Nelson, Walhalla).
John K. 'Johnnie' Williams
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- John K. "Johnnie" Williams, 93, New Rockford, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, in Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, where he had lived since April 1996.
John Kenneth Williams was born June 3, 1905, the son of John Lincoln and Ellen (Foulkes) Williams, in Winfred, S.D. His mother died when he was 3 months old. He was raised by an aunt and uncle until the age of 5. He then rejoined his family and lived in Cottonwood Lake, now Alamo, N.D. He moved with his family to Brantford, N.D., where he attended school. He began farming in the Brantford area in 1928. He married Helen Kunz in the fall of 1929, in St. Michael, N.D. They moved to Tiffany Township, Eddy County, N.D., where they purchased a farm. In 1969, they moved to New Rockford. Helen Williams died Sept. 4, 1973. He married Margaret Wells on Aug. 25, 1974, in New Rockford.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Vivian (Robert) Bailly, Rapid City, S.D.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; half brothers, Maurice, Key, Leo and Jim, all of New Rockford; and half sisters, Hazel Gade, Simi Valley, Calif., and Helen Sampson and Leone Cudworth, both of New Rockford.
He was preceded in death by three brothers; three sisters; and a half sister.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday in First Congregational Church, New Rockford.
Visitation: Noon to 5 p.m. today, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer services, all in Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.
Wallace 'Johnny' Seielstad
DEVILS LAKE -- Wallace "Johnny" Seielstad, 74, Devils Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, in the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Wallace John Seielstad was born April 4, 1924, the son of Mathias and Selma (Swan) Seielstad, in Newfolden, Minn., where he graduated from high school in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Devils Lake, where he worked for and later became part owner of the Lake Supply. He married Olga Lucille Straabe on Feb. 10, 1951, in Devils Lake. He worked for Devils Lake Chrysler Center, retiring in 1986. They moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. Olga Seielstad died Oct. 12, 1987. He returned to Devils Lake in 1988. He lived in the Odd Fellows Village until moving toGood Samaritan.
He is survived by daughters, Myrna (Robert) Nelson, Sioux Falls, and Karen (Robert) Marshall, Copperas Cove, Texas; a son, Wayne, Wahpeton, N.D.; four grandchildren; a brother, Marvin, Grand Forks; and sisters, Synneva Seielstad, Grand Forks, and Velma Christianson, Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: Noon to 9 p.m. today in Gilbertson Funeral Home, and before services in the church.
Burial: North Prairie Cemetery, Leeds, N.D.
Boyd A. Wass
STARKWEATHER, N.D. -- Boyd A. Wass, 62, Starkweather, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in Medcenter One, Bismarck.
Boyd Allen Wass was born Sept. 3, 1936, the son of Ernest and Edna (Elftman) Wass, in Starkweather, where he attended school. He married Patricia Foster on Dec. 30, 1960, in Starkweather. They lived in Glascow, Mont., where he worked at various jobs. They returned to Starkweather, where they farmed. He began Dakota Kennels in 1983. He was also a school bus driver for Starkweather for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Roxanne (Michael) Vendsel, and Kelly (Marlo) Stromberg, both of Minot, and Karri (John) Kraft, Bismarck; sons, Craig (Lori) Wass, Minot, and Anthony (Dawn) Hagmen, Parris Island, S.C.; five grandchildren; and a brother, Ronald, Webster, N.D.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Harold.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Wednesday in Trinity Bergen Lutheran Church, Starkweather.
Visitation: Noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, in Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando, N.D.

Margaret 'Marge' Hooker
BEMIDJI -- Margaret "Marge" Hooker, 71, Bemidji, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
Margaret Mary Ladd was born June 6, 1927, the daughter of Donald and Lu Lu (Young) Ladd, in Newry, Minn. In March 1935, she moved with her family to Debs, Minn., where she attended school. She married Clyde Hooker on Aug. 3, 1946, in Bemidji. She worked at the Beltrami Nursing Home and for the Colonial Motel.
She is survived by sons, David, Arlington, Wash., Patrick, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Silas, Laporte, Minn.; a daughter, Violet (Robert) Lindom, Clearwater, Minn.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald Jr., Crystal, Minn., and Glendon, Milwaukee, Wis.; and sisters, Angie (Allen) Annonson, Shevlin, Rose (Ted) Hofforth, Lannon, Wis., Ellen (Willard) Stout, Puposky, Minn., Joan (William) Nester, Elizabeth, W. Va.
Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wilton, Minn.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Cease Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Elliott K. McKay
FORT TOTTEN, N.D. -- Elliott K. McKay, 30, Fort Totten, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in Fort Totten.
Elliott Kenneth McKay was born Nov. 26, 1968, the son of Phil and Phyllis (Herman) McKay, in Oakland, Calif. He grew up and attended school on the Spirit Lake Reservation. He worked for the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort, Fort Totten and the Prairie Rose Casino, Belcourt, N.D. He is survived by a son, Dustin Thunder John McKay, Dunseith, N.D.; his parents; brothers, Ernest (Prettydeer), Erick, Eronn (Sue Kraft) and Earland, all of Fort Totten; sisters, Marcella (Dean) Morken, Cheryl McKay, Sharon (Solomon Peltier) McKay, Erlinda (Tyrone Artis) McKay, and Danyelle McKay, all of Fort Totten; and companion, Janice Birkland, Dunseith.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten.

Myrtle L. Peterson
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Myrtle L. Peterson, 96, Thief River Falls, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center, Convalescent Care Unit, Thief River Falls, where she had lived since 1985.
Myrtle Lillian Jahr was born Sept. 1, 1902, the daughter of Albert and Anita (Olson) Jahr, in Nielsville, Minn. She attended school in Marshall County, Minn. She married Ludvig Peterson on Feb. 5, 1923, in Thief River Falls. They lived in Thief River Falls, Madison, Minn., and Grand Forks, before moving to Sanders Township in 1934. They moved into Thief River Falls in 1972. Ludvig Peterson died November 1977.
She is survived by daughters, Olive Weflen, Gresham, Ore., Arlien (Alvin) Pearson, Ellsworth, Wis., and Genevieve Lane, Thief River Falls; sons, Lester (Josie), Machesney Park, Ill., and Byron (Anita), Rockford, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Palma Hanson, San Jacinto, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; sons-in-law, Raymond Weflen and Burton Lane; and sisters, Mildred Widing, Alice Vraa, Evelyn Efaw and Grace Johnson;
Services: 2 p.m. today, Abundant Life Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.

Diane Jorstad
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Diane Jorstad, 54, Thief River Falls, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at home of cancer.
Diane M. Haugen was born May 7, 1944, the daughter of Christian and Louisa (Lennie) Haugen, in Thief River Falls, where she attended school. She graduated from high school in 1962. She worked for the Falls Clinic and Hagen Adjustment in Thief River Falls. She worked at North State Bank as Executive Secretary from November 1976 to August 1998, when she retired. She married Ralph Jorstad on Oct. 20, 1962, in Thief River Falls.
She is survived by her husband; a son, David (Valerie), Thief River Falls; a daughter, Kristi Jorstad, Thief River Falls; four grandsons; and her mother.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, St. Johns Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: Noon to 7 p.m. Monday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Harry Haugen
MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Harry Haugen, 85, Mayville, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, in Tri-County Nursing Home, Hatton, N.D.
Harry Haugen was born Jan. 7, 1914, the son of Edward and Ingeborg (Haugen) Haugen, in Nekoma, N.D. He moved with his family to Hatton, N.D. in 1920. He attended school in Lindaas Township, Traill County, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned to North Dakota and farmed with his uncle in Portland. He married Corrine (Tunseth) Naber on Oct. 1, 1977, Mayville. In 1979, they bought a retirement farm near Mayville.
He is survived by his wife; stepchildren, Terry (Cindy) Naber, St. Lawrence, S.D., Janet (Randall) Gross, Huron, S.D., Timothy Naber, Mayville, and Stacie (Kevin) Stadick, Minneapolis; eight step-grandchildren; and sisters, Olga Asheim and Edna Haugen, both of Buxton, N.D.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur and Albert.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Monday, Aurdal Lutheran Church, Portland.
Burial: Aurdal Cemetery, Portland (Baker, Mayville).
Merelyn A. Johnson
MADDOCK, N.D. -- Merelyn A. Johnson, 72, Maddock, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in Heart of America Medical Center, Rugby, N.D.
Merelyn Allan Johnson was born Jan. 9, 1927, the son of Oscar and Stella (Ness) Johnson, in Halstad, Minn., where he grew up. He attended school in Twin Valley, Minn. He worked on farms in the Twin Valley and Ada, Minn., area. He moved to Maddock in 1947, where he worked for Lawrence and Leo Walker. He married Lois Anderson on April 11, 1954, in Maddock, where they lived. He worked at the Farmers Co-op Creamery and farmed in the Family Farm Grain Co-op in Maddock until retiring. He also worked at the Dave Kenner farm, Maddock.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Deanna Johnson, Maddock, and LuJean (Pete) Deichert, Mandan, N.D.; a son, Mark (Sherri) Johnson, Bismarck; three grandchildren; a brother, Oscar "Bud," Fargo; and sisters, Shirley Peters, Oaks, N.D., and Colleen Johnson, East Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Mahle, Dorothy Strommon and Violet "Dorey" Johnson.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, Nelson Funeral Home, Maddock, and one hour before services in the church.
