Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, in Carrington (N.D.) Health Center.
Chester Howard Holcomb was born
Feb. 28, 1906, the son of William and Inez (Stone) Holcomb, in Burdette, S.D., where he attended school. He moved to Warwick, N.D., where he worked on several farms. He married
Florence Flink on June 21, 1936, in Sheyenne, N.D. They moved to Linton, N.D. In 1941 they moved to a farm in New Rockford. In spring 1954, they moved to Hibbing, Minn., where he worked for the railroad on the Iron Range. In the fall of 1959, they moved to New Rockford, where he worked for Archie Campbell Road Construction Co., and Swift Poultry Processing Plant.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Roger (Nancy), Mentor, Minn., and Raymond (Eileen), Gwinner, N.D.; a daughter, Marlyn (Walt) Johanson, New Rockford; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Josie Burton, Porterville, Calif.
He was preceded in death
by children, Betty Lou and Ronald; a brother, Walter; and a sister, Zada Torgrimson.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.
James 'Jim' O'Connell Jr.
BEMIDJI -- James "Jim" O'Connell Jr., 45, St. Paul, formerly of Bemidji, died
Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at home.
James O'Connell was born
July 17, 1953, in St. Paul. He attended school in St. Paul. He moved with his family to Bemidji, where he graduated from high school in 1971. He attended Bemidji Area Vocational Technical School majoring in business. He married
Nancy Fenson on Sept. 14, 1974, in Bemidji. He bought the Natural Music Store in Bemidji and operated it from 1976 to 1989. He returned to the metropolitan area.
He is survived by daughters, Melissa "Missi" O'Connell and Marisa "Risa" O'Connell, both of Bemidji; a son, Adrian, Bemidji; his mother, St. Paul; his father, Minneapolis; and a sister, Lana Boster, Bruno, Minn.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Mueller-Bies Funeral Home, Roseville, Minn.

Ronald H. Rongstad
BEMIDJI -- Ronald H. Rongstad, 63, Bemidji, died
Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in North Country Regional Hospital, Bemidji.
Ronald Harlen Rongstad was born
Oct. 11, 1935, the son of Helge and Ruth (Bruun) Rongstad, in Aure, Minn. He graduated from high school in Bemidji in 1954. He married
Charlotte "Chick" Orvik on Oct. 23, 1955, in Pinewood, Minn. He logged and worked for Kenfield Box Factory and Haack's Mobile Gas Station. He worked for JE Schraeder Auto Supply.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Neil (Debbie), Bemidji, and Rondey, Wasilla, Alaska; two grandchildren; and brothers, Richard, Milltown, Wis., Dennis, Fergus Falls, Minn., Denton, Bemidji, and Lyle (Linda), Wilton, Minn.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Olga Sorbo
SHARON, N.D. -- Olga Sorbo, 88, Sharon, died
Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, in Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, N.D.
Olga Kilen was born
Aug. 17, 1910, the daughter of Sven and Bertha Mary (Ostenson) Kilen, in Sharon, where she attended school. She married
Clarence Sorbo on May 10, 1928, in Finley, N.D. They lived in Sharon. Clarence Sorbo died
April 19, 1990. She continued to live in Sharon until October 1993 when she moved to Luther Memorial Home.
She is survived by sons, Marlow, Fargo, and Clair and Ron, both of Sharon; daughters, Carol (Ron) Ness, Moorhead, Mary (Jack) Kern, Morris, Minn., and Loree (Dick) Bristow, Aurora, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by sons, Warren and Daryln; a daughter, Joanne; a brother, Clarence; and sisters, Gilma and Bernice.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Luther Memorial Chapel, Mayville.
Visitation: One hour before services in the chapel.
Burial: Hoff Cemetery, Sharon (Quam-Plaisted-Cushman).
Joyce Peterson
CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Joyce Peterson, 74, Carrington, died
Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, in Golden Acres Manor Nursing Home, Carrington.
Joyce Footitt was born
April 30, 1924, the daughter of Raymond and Rose (Abraham) Footitt, in Carrington, where she graduated from high school. She married
Lloyd Peterson on April 11, 1943, in Carrington. They lived in St. Lake City during World War II, and later, they returned to Carrington.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Laurel (Joe) Bagan, Denver, Kathleen (David) Morgan, Golden, Colo., and Debra Peterson, Jamestown; and a sister, Mary (George) Bohnet, Glendale, Ariz.
She was preceded in death
by two sons; two brothers; and three sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8: 30 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery.
Michael R. Ripplinger
Michael R. Ripplinger, 51, Fargo, formerly of Grand Forks, died
Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at home.
Michael Ray Ripplinger was born
July 25, 1947, the son of Joseph and Mary (Meagher) Ripplinger, in Grand Forks. He moved with his family to Plummer, Minn. He attended school in Plummer and Omaha, Neb., and graduated from high school in East Grand Forks in 1965. He attended Moler Barber School in Fargo. He owned and operated Mike's Barber Shop in Fordville, N.D. He returned to Grand Forks, where he worked on the Deaconess Hospital. In 1973, he joined the Grand Forks Police Department. He retired in 1982. He married
Diane Adams on Aug. 17, 1973. They moved in 1981 to Thompson, N.D., and later to Buxton, N.D., where he owned and operated "Mike's Place". He owned and operated The Eastsider restaurant from 1989 to 1991 in East Grand Forks.
He is survived by daughter, Lisa (Richard) Kelsey, Grand Forks Air Force Base, and Cindy Ripplinger-Fettig, Jamestown; sons, Brian and Aaron, both of East Grand Forks; three grandchildren; a sisters, Mary Joyce (George) Hastings, Grand Forks, and brothers, Joseph (Linda), Grand Forks, and Thomas, Riverfalls, Wis.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Services: 1: 30 p.m. today, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks.

Leonard M. Beaulieu
BEMIDJI -- Leonard M. Beaulieu, 67, Bemidji, died
Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at home.
Leonard Mack Beaulieu was born
June 28, 1931, the son of Charles and Martha (Rabbitt) Beaulieu, in Onigum, Minn. He attended school in Cass Lake, Minn. After his marriage, they moved to Minneapolis. He returned to Cass Lake, where he was a self-employed landscaper and laborer for Leech Lake Reservation.
He is survived by sons, Edward (Vonsue), Bemidji, and George, Bagley, Minn.; and a brother, Ronald (Dorothy), Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; a brother; and a sister.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Veterans Memorial Building, Cass Lake.
Visitation: Begins 1 p.m. Friday in Veterans Memorial Building.
Burial: Rabbitt Cemetery, Cass Lake (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).
Robert Lindell
BEMIDJI -- Robert Lindell, 84, Bemidji, died
Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in Northern Itasca Health Care Center, Big Fork, Minn.
Robert Lindell was born
Aug. 1, 1914, the son of Joseph and Lena (Hanson) Lindell, in Solway, Minn., where he attended school. He worked for the Kenfield Box Factory in Bemidji. He married
Anna Meeves on Aug. 12, 1945, in Bemidji. He worked for the Great Northern Railway until his retirement in 1975. Anna Lindell died
July 31, 1981. He married
Margaret Grimsley on Aug. 4, 1984, in Shevlin, Minn. He lived in nursing homes in Bagley and Kelliher, Minn., since 1995.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Ernest, Bemidji; daughters, Eva Sisson, Bemidji, and Elaine Miles, Carthage, Mo.; stepsons, Keith (Linda) Grimsley, Sartell, Minn., Tim (Brenda) Grimsley, Bemidji, and Arthur (Jeannie) Grimsley, Lovespark, Ill.; stepdaughters, Joann (Harvey) Bemelman, Rice, Minn., Cheryl (Danny) Martine, Weme, Minn., Karen (Mike) Morgan, Bemidji, Karol (Nathan) Ogden, Marengo, Ill., Kathy (Mike) Nepean, Wappepello, Mo., and Ruby (Greg) Lenarz, Sartell; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by five brothers; and two sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Meadowview Cemetery, Lammers Township, in the spring.
Eddie Welstad
Eddie Welstad, 77, 208 Second St. N.W., East Grand Forks, died
Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Fargo.
Eddie Welstad was born
March 21, 1921, the son of John and Volberg (Redahl) Welstad, in Wildrose, N.D., where he attended school. He moved to Crystal, N.D., where he finished school and worked for area farmers. He served in the Merchant Marine. He moved to Chicago, where he worked for a candy factory. He returned to Crystal. He served in the U.S. Army. He married
Margaret Anderson on April 20, 1947, in Mountain, N.D. She died
Oct. 23, 1990. He worked for Valley Motor Co. as a mechanic and for King of Spuds Potato Co.
He is survived by a brother, Raynold (Florence), Minto, N.D.; and sisters, Minnie Johnston, Grafton, N.D., and Alice Shoultz, Grand Forks.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Stennes Funeral Home Chapel, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: Two hours before services in the chapel.
Burial: Hoople (N.D.) City Cemetery
in the spring.
Gordon Harveland
HAMPDEN, N.D. -- Gordon Harveland, 57, Fargo, formerly of Hampden, died
Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, in Dakota Midland Hospital, Fargo.
Gordon Thelmer Harveland was born
Aug. 24, 1941, the son of Iver and Myrtle (Bjorland) Harveland, in Devils Lake. He grew up and attended school in Hampden. He moved to Fargo in the mid-1960s, where he worked at several jobs.
He is survived by his mother, Myrtle Thorsen, Langdon, N.D.; sisters, Marlys (Ken) Loewen, Alsen, N.D.; and Carol (Alden) Veer, Langdon; brothers, Elden (Jan), Fargo, and Wayne (Linda), Seattle; step-sisters, Doris (Leonard) Lien, Mesa, Ariz., and Elaine (Gerald) Knutt, Rock Lake, N.D.; and a step-brother, Robert Thorsen, Bend, Ore.
He was preceded in death
by his father; a stepfather, Henry Thorsen; and a sister, Arlene Stewart.

Stanley L. Osowski
Stanley L. Osowski, 67, Grand Forks, died
Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, in Valley Memorial Elder Care Center, Grand Forks.
Stanley L. Osowski was born
May 7, 1931, the son of John and Sophie (Wesalowski) Osowski, in Warsaw, N.D. He grew up and attended school in Walsh County, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army. He married
Frances Shimpa on May 8, 1954, in Brooks, Minn. They lived in Grand Forks, where he worked for Bridgeman Dairy and the City of Grand Forks, before retiring.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Gail (Eric) Thompson, Grand Forks; sons, Stan "Dale," Duane (Lynn), Danny (Kim) and David, all of Grand Forks, Gary, Grand Junction, Colo., and Douglas (Connie), Larimore, N.D.; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Helen Mager, Milwaukee; and a brother, Walter (Aurelia), Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; a great-granddaughter; and brothers, Leonard, Julian, Florian and Edwin.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.
