LARIMORE, N.D. -- Josephine Neumann, 99, Larimore, formerly of Niagara, N.D., died
Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Josephine Bristol was born
May 28, 1899, the daughter of Erick and Gabrielson Bristol, in Norcross, Minn. She moved with her family to Grano, N.D., where she attended school. She moved to Eckman, N.D., where she attended high school. She moved to Niagara. She married
Edward Neumann on Nov. 14, 1933, in Grand Forks. They lived in Niagara. Edward Neumann died
March 31, 1984. She continued to live in Niagara until moving to Larimore.
She is survived by a daughter, Lucille (Olaf) Olson, McCanna; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by a son, Orville Dwyer; a daughter, Evelyn Pederson; two great-great-grandchildren; four brothers; and seven sisters.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Elm Grove Lutheran Church, McCanna.
Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with a 4 p.m. prayer service, Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Elm Grove Church Cemetery.
Margaret Olson
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Margaret Olson, 60, Thief River Falls, died
Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at home.
Margaret Jane Rosebear was born
Aug. 8, 1938, the daughter of Blake and Mary (Blue) Rosebear, Red Lake Reservation, Minn. She attended school in Red Lake. She married
Melvin Olson in 1962, in Bemidji. They lived in Goodridge, Minn., until 1966, when they moved to Thief River Falls. She worked for Goodridge School and Best Western in Thief River Falls.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Norma (Kip) McLean, Thief River Falls, and Barbara (Wesley) Flateland, Trail, Minn.; sons, Robert (Wendy) and Douglas (Jackie), both of Moorhead, Norman, West Fargo, Richard, Fargo, and Duane (Joann), DeRidder, La.; 16 grandchildren; and sisters, Katherine (Oliver) Erickson, Isabelle Arnevick, Frances Barrett, Marlene (Randy) Parkhurst, and Alice Waybenais, all of Red Lake.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; brothers, Charles Blue, Raphael Jourdain, Arnold James Rosebear and Robert Rosebear; and a sister, Marilyn Rosebear.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Tuesday, Faith Lutheran Church, Goodridge, Minn., followed by an afternoon and evening wake in Little Rock Center, Red Lake.
Visitation: 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Red Lake.
Ellen S. Anderson
GRAFTON, N.D. -- Ellen Anderson, 78, Grafton, died
Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton.
Ellen S. Skaro was born
Dec. 5, 1920, the daughter of Martin and Rowena (Stewart) Skaro, in Milton, N.D., where she attended school. She married
Steve Anderson on Dec. 4, 1941, in Crookston. They farmed in Hensel, N.D. They retired in 1961 and moved to Grafton. She worked at the Developmental Center for 12 years. Steve Anderson died
Dec. 28, 1981. She moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton, in 1991.
She is survived by daughters, Gloria (Wayne) Weaver, Mesa, Ariz., Deanna (Ronald) White and Jeanette (Robert) Latrille, both of Grafton, Jeannie (Rod) Johnson, Gully, Minn., Bonnie Corneillie, Grand Forks, and Ellen Johnson, Valley City, N.D.; a son, Gerald (Harriet), Inkster, N.D.; 25 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Floyd, Edinburg, N.D., and Ronald, Enderlin, N.D.; and sisters, Betty Riske, Grafton, Donna Slotto and Joyce Nupdahl, both of Cavalier, N.D., Dorothy Slama, Milton, N.D., and Jean Markel, St. Thomas, N.D.
She was preceded in death
by a son; two granddaughters; two grandsons; a great-grandson; and two brothers.

Amelia 'Amy' Reitmeier
CROOKSTON -- Amelia "Amy" Reitmeier, 81, Crookston, died
Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at home.
Amelia Drumheller was born
Jan. 8, 1917, the daughter of George and Mary (Zimmerman) Drumheller, in Morse, Sask. She later moved to Crookston and became a naturalized citizen. She married
Leonard William Reitmeier on June 1, 1942, in Crookston. They farmed near Crookston before moving into Crookston in 1950. She worked at Arel's Grocery in Crookston, and later as a cook at Carmen School. She also worked at Dahlgren's. Leonard Reitmeier died
Sept. 8, 1989.
She is survived by sons, Lyle (Vera), Battle Creek, Mich., and Allan (Charlotte), Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Merry Ann Grove, Crookston; eight grandsons; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alex (Ivah), Fisher, Minn., sisters, Margaret Reitmeier and Dorothy (Robert) Sirek, both of Crookston, and Rosemary (Elmer) Nelson, Gilbert, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Lee Drumheller, St. Louis, Mo.
She was preceded in death
by a grandson; and brothers, Henry and Walter.

Irene C. Axvig

Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, in the St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River, N.D.
Irene C. Troftgruben was born
March 15, 1914, the daughter of Carl and Ida (Sundvor) Troftgruben, in Edinburg, N.D. She attended school in Tiber and Adams. She married
Joseph Axvig on Sept. 12, 1937, in Edinburg. They lived and farmed in Silvesta Township, Walsh County, N.D., until retiring in 1971. They moved to Adams.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Jerome (Claudia), Rollag, Minn., and Earl (Marsha), Adams; a daughter, Joleen Swartz, Park River; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edroy (Martha) and Harold (Lillian), both of Edinburg, Arnold, Santa Anna, Calif., and Harlan (Jeanette), Vancouver, B.C.; and sisters, Marlys (Curtis) Carlson, Minneapolis, and Evelyn Rector, Fargo.
She was preceded in death
by daughters, Addie Kreklau and Irma Hurtt; a sister, Mildred; and a brother, Earl.

Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in the Good Samaritan Center, Park River, N.D.
Pearl I. Rustan was born
July 12, 1911, the daughter of Oluf and Louise (Stenerson) Rustan, in Edinburg, where she attended school. She graduated from high school in Milton, N.D. She married
Magnus Bjerke on Oct. 7, 1938, in Edinburg. They lived and farmed in Edinburg until retiring in 1975. They moved to Adams. Magnus Bjerke died
Sept. 2, 1985.
She is survived by a daughter, Paulette (Jack) Misialek, Adams; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Orine (Vernon) Drevecky, Adams; and a brother, Lloyd (Doris), Larimore, N.D.
She was preceded in death
by brothers, Hiliary, Leonard, Vernon and Willis.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Edinburg.

Bertha V. Armitage
BEMIDJI -- Bertha V. Armitage, 80, Bemidji, died
Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at home.
Bertha Vivian Vivier was born
April 22, 1918, the daughter of John and Pauline (Carpenter) Vivier, in Manvel, N.D. In the late 1920s they moved to the Bemidji area, where she attended school. She married
Archie McMurray in 1934, in Bemidji. He died
in 1950. She married
Robert "Jack" Armitage on Sept. 12, 1952, in Bemidji.
She is survived by her husband; a son, James McMurray, Houston; daughters, Julie Simcox, Centralia, Ill., Joan (Terry) Potucek, Warren, Minn., and Janice (Herb) South and Patty (Gary) Johnson, both of Bemidji; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sarah Holmes and Betty Vivier, both of California.
She was preceded in death
by daughters, Judith McMurray and Jean Crawford; two grandchildren; brothers, Peter and Dwight; and a sister, Marie Qual.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, First Presbyterian Church, Bemidji.

Alex Peil
DRAYTON, N.D. -- Alex Peil, 95, formerly of the Bowesmont-Drayton area, died
Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in Wedgewood Manor, Cavalier, N.D., where he had lived since February 1998.
Alexander Peil was born
March 6, 1903, the son of David and Catherine Peil, in Germany. He moved with his parents from the Volga area in Russia to the United States. He married
Ruby Viola Werner on Nov. 9, 1945, in Neche, N.D. They lived and farmed in the Bowesmont-Drayton area. Ruby Peil died
Jan. 23, 1959. In 1992, he moved to Borg Memorial Home, Mountain, N.D.
He is survived by a daughter, Catherine Elizabeth (Gary) Paulson, Edinburg, N.D.; a son, David Alexander, Drayton; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Drayton.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Adamson-Austin Funeral Home, Drayton.
Burial: Bowesmont Cemetery.
Violet E. Baldwin
Violet E. Baldwin, 87, formerly of Grand Forks, died
Jan. 11, 1999, in Lake Vue Gardens Care Center, Kirkland, Wash.
Violet Elizabeth Christensen was born
July 5, 1911, the daughter of Louis William and Alma (Jacobson) Christensen, in Grand Forks, where she attended school. She was an administrator for Shell Oil Co. until retiring in 1978.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Services: None held at her request.
Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks (Norman, Columbia Road).
Jean M. Meier
STARKWEATHER, N.D. -- Jean M. Meier, 36, Starkweather, died
Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at home.
Jean Marie Meier was born
Dec. 26, 1962, the daughter of Irwin and Joan (Dudley) Meier, in Huron, S.D. She graduated from Doland (S.D.) High School in 1982. She attended Lake Area Vo-Tech in Watertown, S.D. She worked for several businesses including Chef Reddy, Clark, S.D. In March 1988, she moved to Starkweather, where she worked at Dakota Kennels.
She is survived by her parents, Doland; and brothers, Bob (Christine), Doland, and Eric (Lisa), Raymond, N.D.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Furness Funeral Home Chapel, Clark.

Verner F. Duft
DEVILS LAKE -- Verner F. Duft, 88, Devils Lake, died
Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Verner Fredrick Duft was born
Jan. 23, 1910, the son of Ferdinand and Mathilda (Peters) Duft, in Sullivan Township, Ramsey County, N.D., where he attended school and farmed the family farm. He moved to Devils Lake in 1945. He married
Thelma Braaten on Sept. 5, 1974. They lived in Devils Lake, where he had his own shop and worked in cabinet and finish work. When electricity came to the area, he wired homes between Devils Lake and the Canadian border. Thelma Duft died
Sept. 30, 1997. He moved to the Odd Fellows Home Dec. 8, 1997.
He is survived by stepdaughters, Carole (Roger) Haas, Waxahachie, Texas, Donna (Dale) McCloud, Duncanville, Texas, and Susan Eidoen, Fargo; stepsons, Karsten (Nancy) Braaten, Rice, Minn., and Orville Braaten, Fargo; 14 stepgrandchildren; 32 stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; and sisters, Hermena Larson, Leonarda (Wendell) Adams, Mathilda "Tillie" (Edward) Larson and Rose (Howard) Gulseth, all of Devils Lake, and Cecelia (Edward) Benson, Portland, Ore.
He was preceded in death
by a brother-in-law, Melvin Larson.
