Lila Huffman
LAKOTA, N.D. -- Lila Huffman, 83, Lakota, formerly of Minnewaukan, N.D., died
Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, in Lakota Good Samaritan Center.
Lila Ruby Thompson was born
Nov. 3, 1914, the daughter of Moures and Anne Christine (Thorseth) Thompson, in York, N.D. She attended school in Beaver Township, Benson County, N.D. She attended Benson County Agricultural and Training School in Maddock, N.D., and high school in York, where she graduated in 1933. She attended Union Commercial College in Grand Forks. She did housework and helped her sister, Hazel, in a cook car for the Big Four threshing crew. In 1935, she worked for the Benson County Federal Emergency Relief Association office in Fort Totten, N.D., and was also a clerk for the Fort Totten Indian Agency. In 1938, she began working for the Benson County AAA office, War Price and Rationing office and Benson County Judge. She married
Eli Huffman on April 14, 1944, in Fillmore, N.D. they farmed in West Bay Township, Benson County from 1946 until retiring in 1965. Eli Huffman died
Nov. 3, 1993. She continued to live in Minnewaukan until moving to Devils Lake and then to the Lakota Good Samaritan.
She is survived by a son, Roger (Beth), Minnewaukan; a daughter, Lois (Richard) Saxberg, Cooperstown, N.D.; a grandson; sisters, Bernice Huberty, Minot, and Myrtle Bokn, Devils Lake; and a brother, Marvin (Lyda) Thompson, Devils Lake.
She was preceded in death
by sisters, Olga Lokken, Hazel Berven, and Alice Thompson.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, First Presbyterian Church, Minnewaukan.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. today, Nelson Funeral Home, Minnewaukan.
Burial: Minnewaukan Cemetery.
Alvin 'Eldwin' Johnson
CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Alvin "Eldwin" Johnson, 61, Carrington, died
Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at home.
Alvin C. Johnson was born
Dec. 4, 1936, the son of Clarence and Margaret (King) Johnson, in Valley City, N.D. He moved to Grafton, N.D., in 1942 and to Carrington in October 1987. He received service from the Fourth Corporation while living in Carrington.
He is survived by sisters, Geraldine "Jeri" Konics, Vancouver, Wash., Sharon Opp, Sawyer, N.D., and Dorothy Puklich, Bismarck.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Visitation: 9 a.m. Saturday until time of services in the funeral home.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery.
Diane Lemar
RUGBY, N.D. -- Diane Lemar, 55, Rugby, died
Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at home.
Diane Mears was born
Dec. 8, 1942, the daughter of Alex and Harriet Mears, north of Pleasant Lake, Minn. She attended school in Wolford and Rugby, N.D., graduating from high school, in Rugby, in 1960. She married
Harold Lemar in 1960, in Knox, N.D. She graduated from Interstate Business College, Fargo. She lived in Grand Forks, returning to Rugby in 1988. She worked as a cashier at the Highway Amoco and at The Connection, both in Rugby.
She is survived by her parents; daughters, Teresa Lemar, Rugby, LeeAnne (Kurt) Sletmoe, Casselton, N.D., and Dana (Brian) Odden, Minot; sons, Harold (Susy), Casselton, Robert, Grand Forks, Jon (Julie), Fargo, Travis, Fargo, and Jerald, Rugby; 17 grandchildren; a sister, Lana Ebach, McCluskey, N.D.; and brothers, Steve and Ted, Rugby, and David, Fargo.
She was preceded in death
by a granddaughter.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knox.

Erwin Bock
Erwin Bock, 66, Uniontown, Ohio, formerly of Grand Forks, died
Jan. 6, 1998, at Hospice Care Center.
Erwin Bock was born
May 4, 1931, the son of Albert and Marion Bock, in Grand Forks. He was a graduate of UND. He retired from Goodyear Aerospace/Loral after 35 years. He married
Joann Weaver in 1957, in Grand Forks. She died
in 1979.
He is survived by sisters, Beth Longnecker, Olympia, Wash., and Sharon Tompkins, Syracuse, N.Y.; a brother, Edward, Grand Forks; and his companion, Marilyn Reed, Uniontown.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.

Elsie Bubendorf
Elsie Bubendorf, 71, Oceanside, Calif., formerly of East Grand Forks, died
Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, in Oceanside.
Elsie Ann Bubendorf was born
March 30, 1926, in Minnesota. She married
Richard Bubendorf. They had been married
54 years.
He survives along with her sons, James and Gordon (Arlene), both of East Grand Forks, and John (Joanne), Bend, Ore.; a daughter, Diane (Robert) Kobetsky, Santa Ana, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Beverly Greenwood, Ontario, Calif., Carol Stanley, Napa, Calif., and Sharon Grauer, Phoenix.

Richard Zolondek
MINTO, N.D. -- Richard Zolondek, 63, Minto, died

Richard Zolondek was born
Aug. 18, 1934, the son of Aloze and Emma (Czapiewski) Zolondek, in Walshville Township, Walsh County, N.D. He attended school in Walshville Township and in Warsaw, N.D. He married
Betty Avron on March 4, 1957, in Warren, Minn. They lived in Minto before moving to Warren, where he was employed with Rudnik Brother Farms, Angus, Minn., In 1957, they moved back to Minto, where he worked for L.E. Tibert Farms for 15 years, Mattson Manufacturing and Tom Walski Collins Construction in St. Thomas, N.D.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Nancelyn (Greg) Lizakowski, Minto, and Dawn (Kelly) Lenz, Kempton, N.D.; sons, Chester (Pat), Pillager, Minn., Lowell (Michelle), Grand Forks, Paul (Laurie), Watford City, N.D., and Jack (Kristie), Rugby, N.D.; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; sisters, Mary Gerszewski, Ardoch, N.D., and Leona Misehlemer, San Leandro, Calif.; and brothers, Frank, Minto, and Leonard, Bastrop, Texas.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; a sister, Rose Archibald; and brothers, Chester, Henry, Sylvester and Edward.

Justine Frederick
DEVILS LAKE -- Justine Frederick, 71, Devils Lake, died
Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, in Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake, where she had lived since 1989.
Justine Fayant was born
Nov. 10, 1926, the daughter of William and Ernestine (Bercier) Fayant, in St. John, N.D. She attended school in St. John and Belcourt, N.D. She worked in Rolla, N.D. She married
George Frederick on Nov. 16, 1950, in Devils Lake. She worked as a cook in various Devils Lake restaurants. George Frederick died
July 31, 1994.
She is survived by a son, George (Lou), Devils Lake; daughters, Patti (Mike) Fonder and Penny (Russell) Holmen, both of Grand Forks, Paula (Steven) Bertsch, Devils Lake, and Shirley (Larry) Schultz, Deland, Fla.; nine grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Miller, Champlin, Minn.; a brother, Louis "Bud," in Idaho.
She was preceded in death
by an infant daughter; an infant grandson; two brothers; and two sisters.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to 1: 30 p.m. Saturday, in Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.

Jack 'John' Fetsch
LANGDON, N.D. -- Jack "John" Fetsch, 70, Fargo, formerly of Langdon, died
Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, in Dakota-Heartland Medical Center.
John Fetsch was born
Aug. 15, 1927, the son of John and Margaret (Breyer) Fetsch, in Wales, N.D. He graduated from St. Alphonsus Catholic School. He attended St. John's University, Collegeville, Minn. He graduated from North Dakota State University, where he received his degree in pharmacy. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. He married
Nancy Green on July 23, 1955. He worked for Wally Dempster at the Corner Drug during summers in Langdon. He worked for Service Drug, Langdon, with Ran Chaput and later was partner with John Stremick. He then was owner until retiring and selling the business to Thrifty White Drug in 1994.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Janice, Stinson Beach, Calif., Kathy (Mark) Paulson, Chanhassen, Minn., and Barbara, Fargo; sons, Dr. John (Patricia), Rockville, Md., Paul (Peggy), Lebanon, N.J., and Patrick, Fargo; five grandchildren; and a sister, Laurie Dahl, Tioga, N.D.
He was preceded in death
by brothers, Mark and Robert.

Bert Benshoof
CHURCHS FERRY, N.D. -- Bert Benshoof, 87, Churchs Ferry, died
Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, in Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Bert Benshoof was born
Aug. 10, 1910, the son of Edd and Mabel (Green) Benshoof, in Hurdsfield, N.D., where he attended school, graduating in 1926. He married
Madeline Volz on Sept. 3, 1933, in Hazen, N.D. They lived in Hurds-
field, where he worked road construction until 1939. They moved to Leeds, N.D., where he worked for the North American Creamery. He moved to Churchs Ferry in 1952, where he purchased the grocery store, which he owned and operated until retiring in 1976.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Darlene (Dennis) Pierson, Knox, N.D.; sons, Pat (Delsie), Churchs Ferry, Jerry (Kay), Moore, Okla., and Roger (Lois), Pleasant Plains, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and brothers, Douglas, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Russell, Chino Hills, Calif.
He was preceded in death
by sisters, Emma Benshoof, Charlotte Law and Ruth Bucwitz; a brother, Harry; and two grandsons.

Mary Buchanan, 76, Salem, Va., formerly of Grand Forks, died

Mary Alice MacDonald was born
Sept. 24, 1921, the daughter of Alexander and Rebecca (Reinholt) MacDonald, in Fargo. She graduated from Grand Forks Central High School and UND. She graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She is a retired federal employee, serving several years for the Navy.
She is survived by a sister, Elinore Karsner, Silver Spring, Md.; and brothers, Roland, Louisville, Colo., and Alister, Wilmette, Ill.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, William Gordon Buchanan.

Merritt Flynn
Merritt Flynn, 91, Fargo, formerly of Grand Forks and Greenbush, Minn., died
Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1998, at home.
Merritt Flynn was born
April 12, 1906, the son of Willard Flynn and Hannah Nelson, in Bismarck. He grew up in McLean County, N.D. He graduated from Ryder High School, UND and Columbia University, New York City. He taught rural school in Grant and McLean counties, and Valley City, N.D. He was the superintendent in Millarton, Coleharbor and Killdeer, N.D., and Greenbush. He taught at North Dakota State University, retiring as Professor Emeritus in school administration in 1973. He married
Audrey Thorne in 1930. They resided at Riverview Place, Fargo, since 1989. During World War II, he was an instructor in Air Force Mechanics School in Texas. He was a charter member of the North Dakota Association of School Business officials.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Dennis (Kathryn), San Francisco; and a grandson.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Gethsemane Episcopal Cathedral, Fargo.
Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo.

Joseph Lovegreen
BEMIDJI -- Joseph Lovegreen, 68, Bemidji, died
Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at home.
Joseph Eugene Lovegreen was born
July 16, 1929, the son of Oldies and Irene May Lovegreen, in Nymore, Minn. He graduated from Walker (Minn.) High School in 1947. He worked for White Castle Hamburgers, Minneapolis. He married
Inez Wolfe on Nov. 17, 1950, in Minneapolis. He joined the U.S. Army on Jan., 9, 1951. He was discharged on Oct. 8, 1952, at the rank of corporal. He served as an inactive Army Reservist from Oct. 8, 1952 to Oct. 11, 1956. He returned home, and worked for Farnum Office Supply Co., Minneapolis. In 1956, he began working for Minneapolis Honeywell Regulator Co. as an evaluation engineer. He retired in 1991. He married
Hazel Barke on June 7, 1980, in Minneapolis. She died
June 22, 1989. In the spring of 1991, he moved to Bemidji.
He is survived by a son, Michael (Debra), New Hope, Minn.; a daughter, Ann (James) Offerdahl, Fosston, Minn.; four grandchildren; several stepchildren and stepgrandchildren; a brother, Glenwood, Pine River, Minn.; and a sister, Ethel Fisher, San Diego.
He was preceded in death
by a son, Scot; and sisters, Irene and Joyce Galindo.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Hope Lutheran Church, Fosston.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Fosston.
