Arnold Hetland
Arnold Hetland, 81, formerly of East Grand Forks, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, in Valley Elder Care Center, Grand Forks.
Arnold Hetland was born March 25, 1917, the son of Per and Mathilda (Paulson) Hetland, in Climax, Minn. He attended school in Climax and Crookston Technical College. He served during World War II. He married Gladys Aaker on Oct. 24, 1947, in Crookston. They lived in Angus, Minn., Portland, Ore., and Crookston, before moving to East Grand Forks in 1954. He worked for Butler Machinery, Hansen Ford, Valley Contracting and also independently for LaSota Tools. Gladys Hetland died Sept. 29, 1989.
He is survived by a son, David (Sue), East Grand Forks; a daughter, Marlys Wockovich, Grand Forks; three granddaughters; sisters, Mona Pfordte, Phoenix, Palma Anderson, Longview, Wash., and A. Clarine Udy, Scottsdale, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Tidd; and brothers, Oreen and Vernon.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 6: 30 p.m. prayer service, Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks.
Kevin J. Fragodt
MADDOCK, N.D. -- Kevin J. Fragodt, 36, Chandler, Ariz., formerly of Maddock, died Nov. 2, 1998, in Florence, Ariz.
Kevin Jon Fragodt was born June 27, 1962, the son of John and Betty Fragodt, in Fargo. He graduated from high school in Maddock in 1980. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science and returned to Maddock, where he worked until moving to Arizona in 1990.
He is survived by a daughter, Jessica Fragodt, Red Lake Falls, Minn.; a son, Kohl Fragodt, Chandler; a sister, Karen (David) Larson, Moorhead; and his grandmother, Johanna Anderson, Moorhead.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a step-father, Odin Anderson.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock. Graveside services were held in Young (Ariz.) Cemetery (Nelson, Maddock).
Susan R. Box
Susan R. Box, 35, St. Louis, formerly of Grand Forks, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, in St. Louis.
Susan R. Box was born April 26, 1963, the daughter of David and Judy (Shaw) Box, in Houston. She worked as a bartender. She served in the U.S. Navy.
She is survived by her mother, Grand Forks; and a sister, Laura, Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday in Kutis Funeral Home (City Chapel), St. Louis.
Visitation: 1: 30 p.m. Thursday until time of services in the funeral home.
Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks.
Muriel Posey
SYKESTON, N.D. -- Muriel Posey, 75, Sykeston, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 1998, in Carrington (N.D.) Health Center.
Muriel Erstad was born Nov. 11, 1923, the daughter of Nels and Inga (Jore) Erstad, in Hawley, Minn. She lived in Twin Valley, Minn., before moving to Carrington. She married LaVerne Mitchell on July 18, 1941, in Moorhead. He died Oct. 2, 1962. She married Gene Posey on April 9, 1966, in Glenfield, N.D. They lived in Carrington until 1974 when they moved to Minot. In June 1994, they moved to Sykeston. She worked as a cook in several cafes in Carrington and Minot.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Gail (James) Schultz, Jamestown, Cheryl (Charles) Seil, Heaton, N.D., and Karen (James) Schatz, Mandan, N.D.; sons, Robert (Barbara) Mitchell, Oakdale, Calif., and Terry Mitchell, of Hawaii; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Geneva (Larry) Quesenberry, Carrington, and Margaret Meyers and Helen (Merlin) Heinitz, both of Jamestown; and a brother, Nels Jr., Overgaard, Ariz.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington.
Visitation: Noon to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 8: 30 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service in Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery.
Joyce Lundgren
ADAMS, N.D. -- Joyce Lundgren, 64, formerly of Adams, died Nov. 19, 1998, at a Glendale, Calif., hospital after a long illness.
Joyce Luraye Holmes was born March 27, 1934, the daughter of Wendell and Eloyce Holmes, in Adams. She graduated from Central High School, Grand Forks, in June 1952. She married Lloyd Lundgren on Aug. 15, 1953. They moved to Sun Valley, Calif.
She is survived by a son, John; and a daughter, Delaree Lundgren Ware; two grandchildren; her mother; a brother, David, Grand Forks; and sisters, Gayle Karger, St. Charles, Minn., and Beverly Bowen, Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her father; and brothers, Donn and Dell.
Burial: Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hollywood Hills, Calif.
Richard Schue
Richard Schue, 52, Grand Forks, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, in The McIntosh (Minn.) Manor Nursing Center.
Richard L. Schue was born Sept. 26, 1946, the son of Donald and Betty (Matt) Schue, in Watsonville, Calif. He grew up and attended school in Grand Forks at the St. James Academy. He was co-owner of Valley Fish Co., Grand Forks.
He is survived by a son, David, Wausau, Wis.; his mother, Grand Forks; a brother, Mike, Grand Forks; and sisters, Gail (Roger) Wilson, Fargo, Patty Bronkala, Brainerd, Minn., and Cindy (Ron) Falos, Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service in Amundson Funeral Home.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery.
Helen M. Skiple
BEMIDJI -- Helen M. Skiple, 84, Bemidji, formerly of Clearbrook, Minn., died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, in North Country Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Bemidji.
Helen Marie Rydeen was born Nov. 29, 1914, the daughter of John and Ellen (Jeppson) Rydeen, in Clearbrook. They moved to Fosston, Minn., where she graduated in 1933. She attended French's Business College, Bemidji. She worked for Garden Valley Telephone Co. in Fosston and Mentor, Minn. During World War II, she worked for the OPA, Crookston. She married Arnold Skiple on Nov. 6, 1948, in Erskine, Minn. They moved to Clearbrook, where they farmed. In 1993, they moved to Bemidji.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Allen, Bemidji, and Herbert (Evelyn), Thief River Falls; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Clearbrook.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Cease Family Funeral Home, Bagley, Minn., and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Silver Creek Cemetery, Clearbrook.
Joseph Messner
LANGDON, N.D. -- Joseph Messner, 55, Langdon, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Joseph A. Messner was born Nov. 7, 1943, the son of Alex and Beatrice (Ohleiser) Messner, in Langdon. He graduated from Wales (N.D.) High School in 1962 and joined the U.S. Army. He married Ethel Welsh on Nov. 28, 1984, in Langdon. He worked at Farmer's Union Cenex station for 35 years, most recently as assistant manager.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Gary (Shelly), Langdon; stepdaughters, Paula (Jerry) Diemert, Osnabrock, N.D., DeLores (Jerry) Lafferty and Joanie (Lance) Waters, Walhalla, N.D., and Carolyn Jerome, St. Paul; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice (Jerome) Delvo, Ardella (Milan) Anderson, Viola (Dennis) Brown and Helen Nagle, all of
Langdon, Lillian (Leo) Bittner, Devils Lake, and Marie (Francis) Babinski, Grand Forks; and a brother, Richard, Langdon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and a sister.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Langdon.

John T. 'J.T.' Tharalson
HOOPLE, N.D. -- John T. "J.T." Tharalson, 48, Kalispell, Mont., formerly of Hoople, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, in Sierra Vista, Ariz.
John Thomas Tharalson was born Oct. 5, 1950, the son of T. Linden and Hazel (Hanson) Tharalson, in Grafton, N.D. He graduated from high school in Hoople and Dana College, Blair, Neb. He farmed with his father in the Hoople area. He became a U.S. Coast Guard certified boat pilot. He moved to Kalispell.
He is survived by sisters, Eloise (Dr. Daryl) Williamson, Bloomington, Minn., Carmen Tharalson, Shoreview, Minn., and Kathleen (Gary) Phelps, St. Thomas, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, John and Grace Tharalson, and Eddie and Gena Hanson.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, First Lutheran Church, Hoople.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Hoople City Cemetery (Tollefson, Grafton).
Gertrude Johnson
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Gertrude Johnson, 90, New Rockford, died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, in Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.
Gertrude Emelia Loe was born March 14, 1908, the daughter of James and Jisken (Johnson) Loe, in Hillsdale Township, Eddy County, Warwick, N.D. She married Albert Johnson on Dec. 16, 1942, in Warwick. They lived and farmed in New Rockford. In 1973, they moved into New Rockford. Albert Johnson died April 28, 1974. She entered Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in April 1996.
She is survived by several cousins.
She was preceded in death by an infant son; a sister, Irene; and brothers, John and Gordon.
Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Warwick Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Warwick Cemetery.
Andrew 'Andy' Carr
CARRINGTON, N.D. -- Andrew "Andy" Carr, 39, Houston, formerly of Carrington, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in St. Lukes Hospital, Houston, of cancer.
Andrew Jerome Carr was born March 16, 1959, the son of J. Maurice and Virginia (Wolf) Carr, in Carrington. He grew up and attended school in Bordulac, N.D. He graduated from high school in Carrington, in 1977.
He is survived by daughters, Debbie Carr and Andrea Carr, both of Humble, Texas; his mother, Bordulac; sisters, Loretta Bata and Linda Carr, both of Carrington, and Jean Womble, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and brothers, Robert, Clint, Charlie and Keith, all of Carrington, and Doug, Woodville, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Burial: Carrington Cemetery.
