Russell C. Wetherbee was born
June 8, 1928, the son of William and Isabelle (Silvas) Wetherbee, in San Diego, where he attended school. He married
Patricia Falos on June 6, 1960, in San Diego. He worked as a truck driver for the Produce Market in San Diego. He retired in 1989. They moved to East Grand Forks in 1991.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Charles Schwab, East Grand Forks; a grandson; sisters, Marian and Donna, both of San Francisco, and Dot, Bishop, Calif.; and a brother, James, San Francisco.
He was preceded in death
by brothers, Charles, George, Russ, Bill and Bob; and sisters, Isabelle and Ceil.

Amos Joseph Gust was born
Dec. 11, 1907, the son of Jacob and Anna (Kovar) Gust, in rural East Grand Forks. He attended school in East Grand Forks. He married
Ann Vanyo on Oct. 16, 1934, in Tabor, Minn. He was a farmer in the Tabor area. He was employed as a field man for the West Polk County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Madonna (Ed) Taylor, Los Angeles, Joanne Thompson, Shelbyville, Tenn., Patricia (John) Corbid, Park Rapids, Minn., Jeanette (Peter) Ripplinger, Jamestown, N.D., Kathy (Terry) Hecht, East Grand Forks, Marge (Gary) Myrick, Minneapolis, Carol (John) Bloxsom, Castro Valley, Calif., and Diane Hadden, Grand Forks; sons, Leonard (Kathy), and Paul (Patty), both of Eagan, Minn., Kenneth (Melanie), Andover, Minn., Daniel (Lois), Grand Forks, and Gregory (Cindy), Fort Peck, Mont.; 36 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen (Joseph) Genereux, Fargo.
He was preceded in death
by sons, Michael John and Samuel Gust; three grandchildren; sisters, Anna Pribula, Mary Mack and Bertha Vasek; and Brothers, William, Frank, Joseph, George, Ernest and Albert.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with a 5 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services, all in the church.

David Bjorklund
HILLSBORO, N.D. -- David Bjorklund, 57, Troy, Mont., formerly of Hillsboro, died
Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in Libby, Mont.
David Bjorklund was born
Oct. 3, 1940, the son of Ansgar and Clara Bjorklund in Hillsboro. He attended school in Eldorado Township, Traill County, N.D., and graduated from high school in Crookston. He returned to the family farm, where he worked. He married
Nancy Roswich on Sept. 12, 1964, in Fargo. He later worked for Midwest Motors in Fargo. He lived in California, Washington and Montana, where he worked in sales.
He is survived by his parents; a son, Troy, Fargo; a daughter, Kristen (Barry) Blevins, Fort Wayne, Ind.; and brothers, Donald (Arlene), and Daniel (Julie), both of Hillsboro; and Dale, Troy.
He was preceded in death
by a son, Matthew.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Hillsboro.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Hillsboro (Wildeman, Hillsboro).
Robert B. Mechtie
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Robert B. Mechtie, 81, New Rockford, died
Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, at home.
Robert B. Mechtie was born
July 19, 1917, the son of Robert and Eliza Mechtie Jr., in Eddy County, near Brantford, N.D. He attended school in Brantford and Juanita, N.D. He worked on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1942 to December 1945., and was awarded the Purple Heart. He began farming near Grace City, N.D. He married
Marion Kurtz on March 4, 1948, in New Rockford. In 1963, they moved to Rockford Township, Eddy County, where they have lived and farmed since.
He is survived by his wife; and a daughter, Judy Mechtie.
He was preceded in death
by a brother and a sister.
Services: Private services will be held.
Visitation: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, in Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.
Palmer Fonnest
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Palmer Fonnest, 92, Thief River Falls, died
Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Palmer Harold Fonnest was born
May 13, 1906, the son of Ben and Margia (Gware) Fonnest, in Veldt Township, Marshall County, Minn. He attended school in Grygla, Minn. He farmed near Grygla and cut pulp in the Northwest Angle.
He is survived by a brother, Tron (Helen), Thief River Falls.
He was preceded in death
by sisters, Mae Wernes and Adella Anderson.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Grace Lutheran Church, Grygla, Minn.

Mabel C. Senske
CROOKSTON -- Mabel C. Senske, 80, Crookston, died
Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Mabel Casavan was born
Feb. 26, 1918, the daughter of Cyprian and Olive (Boutain) Casavan, in Dorothy, Minn., where she attended school. She married
Louie Senske on June 14, 1938, in Dorothy. They lived in Crookston, where in the early 1940s, they established the Senske Dray and Transfer Company, now known as the Senske and Son Transfer. She worked as the bookkeeper.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Jim (Cindy), Grand Forks; a daughter, Cindy Demarais, Red Lake Falls, Minn.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Delphus, Crookston; and sisters, Cora Hanson, Virginia, Minn., Cecile Thode, Red Lake Falls, Marie Renz, Alaska, Gladys McGraph, Port Angeles, Wash., and Doris Pahlen, Shelly, Minn.
She was preceded in death
by a daughter, Naomi Keasler; sisters, Lilly Hanson and Obeline Lizotte; and brothers, Henry and Lawrence "Blackie"

Alyce J. Miller was born
Jan. 16, 1934, the daughter of George Henry and Anna Marie (Warrington) Miller, in Bemidji. She retired from LGAM Corp., of Woodsfield. She married
Paul R. Baker. He died

She is survived by sons, Ricky, Woodsfield, Lawrence, Sioux City, Iowa, and Paul Baker II, Rockbridge, Ohio; daughters, Ruthann Robbins, Woodsfield, and Frances Poole, Woodsfield; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; brothers, George (Barb), Fosston, Minn., Larry (Linda), Bemidji, and David (Doris), Grand Forks; and sisters, Ruthie (Don) Baker, Bemidji, and Anna Mae (Larry) Bakke, Mona (Don) Brundin, and Shirley (Jerry) Anderson, all of Grand Forks.

Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in a farm accident at his home.
Lloyd D. Gjesdal was born
Sept. 3, 1920, the son of Lars and Elizabeth (Loge) Gjesdal, in Cooperstown, where he attended school and farmed with his parents. He married
Doris Larson on June 20, 1954. They lived on the family farm, where he continued to farm with his son.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Bradley (Rhonda), Cooperstown; a daughter, Brenda, Wahpeton; three grandchildren; and a sister, Ella (Harvey) Kroer, Luverne, N.D.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Luverne Lutheran Church, Luverne.

Gerhard Bjornstad
INKSTER, N.D. -- Gerhard Bjornstad, 86, Smithton, Ill., formerly of Inkster, died

Gerhard Bjornstad was born
March 8, 1912, the son of Kristian and Oline (Quanrud) Bjornstad, in Mekinock, N.D. He married
Robbie Denson in 1943. They lived and worked in Elkhart, Ind., before moving to Smithton. He served in the U.S. Army, and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Robbie Bjornstad died
in 1994.
He is survived by two sons, four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Borgny (Sanford) Larson, Larimore, N.D.; and a brother, Tilford, Fordville, N.D.
He was preceded in death
by two brothers.

April 14, 1912, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Shariska) Vanyo, in Tabor, Minn., where she attended school. She married
Amos Gust on Oct. 16, 1934, in Tabor. They were lifelong farmers in the Tabor area. Amos Gust died
Sept. 24, 1998.

Harris Floan on June 19, 1951, in Beltrami. They farmed before moving to Crookston. Harris Floan died
March 30, 1990. She married
Harry Christiansen on Nov. 26, 1994, in Crookston. She had recently moved to the nursing home.
She is survived by her husband; a brother, Alphonse (Geraldine), Ely, Minn.; and sisters, Virginia (Melvin) Sivertson, Fargo, and Teresa (Raymond) Kostrzewski, Stephen, Minn.
She was preceded in death
by brothers, Frank and Joseph.

Royal G. Erwin
BEMIDJI -- Royal G. Erwin, 75, Bemidji, died

Royal Godfrey Erwin was born
Feb. 6, 1923, the son of Godfrey and Faith (Morrow) Erwin, in International Falls, Minn. They moved in 1932 to Bemidji, where he attended school. He then returned to International Falls, where he worked for Boise Cascade. He married
Jennie Florence Schreffler on March 5, 1946, in International Falls. They returned to Bemidji for a short time and then to Minneapolis., where he worked for Honeywell from 1956 until retiring in 1983. They then moved to Bemidji.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Raymond (Geraldine), Salt Lake City, and John (Dianna) Erwin, Andover, Minn.; a daughter, Margaret Erwin, Minneapolis; a stepson, Ernest (Karen) Johnson, Bemidji; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene, Minneapolis; and a sister, Mary Iverson, Bemidji.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.

Michael Bickler
SHEYENNE, N.D. -- Michael Bickler, 69, Sheyenne, died
Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, in MedCenter One, Bismarck.
Michael Bickler was born
Nov. 15, 1928, the son of Lewis and Barbara (Bohl) Bickler, in Orrin, N.D. He grew up and graduated from school in Balta, N.D., in 1947. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1955. He married
Mary Ann Schumacher of Dec. 31, 1951, in Strasburg, N.D. They lived in Portland, Ore., and Moses Lake, Wash. In 1955, they purchased a farm in the New Rockford area.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Michael (Kim), Williston, N.D.; daughters, MaryKay (Gerard) Baker, Sulphur, Okla., Susan (Robb) Sattler and Barbara (James), both of Bismarck, and Julianne (Mark) Sellie, Fessenden; 18 grandchildren; brothers, Peter (Rose), Orrin, N.D., Lewis, Balta, N.D., and Wendell (Carolyne), Rugby, N.D.; and sisters, Sister Bernadine Bickler OFS, Hankinson, N.D., Margaret (Adam) Axtman, Rugby, Magdeline (Rumuldus) Hager, Great Falls, Mont., Rose (Marlyn) Sperry, Coos Bay, Ore., and Amy (Rick) Ellis, Denver.
He was preceded in death
by a sister, Ludvina Volk.
