HENSEL, N.D. -- Ed Parsons, 54, Hensel, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, in Bison, S.D.
Edward Charles Parsons was born July 2, 1944, the son of Elmer and Suzanne (Schuster) Parsons, in Dubuque, Iowa, where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He worked as a telephone cable splicer. In 1972, he moved to Cavalier. He married Cynthia Scott on Feb. 12, 1990, in Cavalier. In 1981 they moved to Hensel. He attended Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix. He had owned and operated Choices M/C Motorcyle Repair in Hensel since 1994.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Katie Victoria Parsons, Hensel; sons, Michael Thomas, Hensel, and Troy (Carrie) Sott, Cavalier; a brother, D.J. (Sara), Rapid City, S.D.; and sisters, Lorraine Benner, Makanda, Ill., Carol (Keith) Crook, Stoddard, Wis., and Marilyn (Wayne) Procter, Houston.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 2: 30 p.m. Monday, in Cavalier Assembly of God Church.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier.
Burial: Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D.
Vernon G. Eide
Vernon G. Eide, 80, San Clemente, Calif., formerly of Grand Forks, died Sept. 10, 1998, after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife, Rodella; a daughter, Marian Wilson; a son, Don; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services: Were held in Whittier, Calif.
Burial: Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier.
Jill Foerster
Jill Foerster, 40, 1708 Fourth Street N., died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Jill Marie Rassmussen was born May 27, 1958, the daughter of John and Donna Marie (Chester) Rassmussen, in Grafton, N.D. She graduated from high school in Drayton, N.D., in 1976 and the North Dakota State School of Science in 1979, as a dental assistant. She married Curt Foerster on Oct. 4, 1980, in Drayton. They lived in Grand Forks, where she worked for the Family Dental Center.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Kelsey Marie and Tessa Kate, at home; a son, Jacob Leo, at home; and sisters, Mary Beth (David) Marciniak, Drayton and Susie (Troy) Lange, Howard Lake, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Zion United Methodist Church, Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.
Harley J. Nelson
NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. -- Harley J. Nelson, 69, New Rockford, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Harley James Nelson was born Dec. 23, 1929, the son of Charlie and Josie (Simonson) Nelson, in Bremen, N.D., where he attended school. He helped on the family farm and worked construction on grain elevators and on the railroad in North Dakota. He married Betty Syverson on June 5, 1959, in New Rockford. He worked for Bob Weber Construction, New Rockford, until retiring. He then worked for New Rockford Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Harlo (Robin), Jamestown, N.D.; daughters, Becky (Don) Hulse, Owasso, Okla., Brenda (Kenny) Nealis, Cashion, Okla., Robin (Scott) Westall, Fargo, Carla (Mike) Roberts, Grafton, N.D., and Shellie (Isadore) Tuson, Durango, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; brothers, Clayton and Eldon (Mary Lou), both of New Rockford, and Byron (Pauline), West Fargo, N.D.; and sisters, Doris (Art) Jordon, Alerene Hoffman and Vennoy Stokke, all of New Rockford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Victor.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, First Lutheran Church, New Rockford.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Mark E. Hornung
WALHALLA, N.D. -- Mark E. Hornung, 46, Walhalla, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at home.
Mark Eugene Hornung was born June 21, 1952, the son of Albert Jr. and Solveig (Olson) Hornung, in Fargo. He grew up in Walhalla and graduated from Cardinal Muench Seminary in Fargo. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He moved to California and worked as an inhalation therapist and in construction. In 1990, he returned to Walhalla, where he worked for Archer Daniels Midland, Pembilier Nursing Center, Johnson Trucking and Urlaub Trucking.
He is survived by daughters, Emily and Chelsey Hornung, Lakewood, Calif.; his mother; brothers, David (Melody), DeSoto, Texas, and Steven (Bianca) and Scott (Jeanne), both of Walhalla; and a sister, Jan (Ty) Thompson, Lexington, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Walhalla.
Prayer service: 7: 30 p.m. Thursday, in the church.
Burial: St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery (Nelson, Walhalla).
Military service: Bartlette-Resler Post No. 62, Walhalla American Legion.
Bernice A. Lilleoien
Bernice A. Lilleoien, 83, 1824 First Ave. N., died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, in Mesa, Ariz.
Bernice A. Lilleoien was born July 8, 1915, the daughter of Ole and Mathilda (Bunde) Lilleoien, in McVille, N.D., where she attended school. She attended Mayville (N.D.) State Teachers College and graduated from UND. She taught rural school in Nelson County, Goodrich and Finley, N.D., and in Thief River Falls. She also taught in East Grand Forks schools for 29 years.
She is survived by a brother, Oscar.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Clarice.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, United Lutheran Church.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Center Lutheran Church Cemetery, McVille. Memorials are suggested to United Lutheran Church (Amundson).
Daniel Gerszewski
MINTO, N.D. -- Daniel Gerszewski, 71, Minto, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Daniel Gerszewski was born Sept. 16, 1927, the son of Syrapion and Julia (Byzewski) Gerszewski, in Ardoch Township, Walsh County, N.D., where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He married Anne Mae Dauksavage on Oct. 13, 1953, in Minto. In 1954, he began his career as a carpenter, working for Earl Osowski and Clem Houdek, both in Minto, and Ulvedal Construction, Grand Forks. He worked for Morrison Knudsen Co., Chris Berg Construction and Ray Proof Corp., at the Par Site and anti-ballistic missile site both as a foreman and superintendent. He worked for Eickhoff Construction in Crookston. In 1974, he began working at Grand Forks Air Force Base as a carpenter and in quality assurance evaluation. He retired in 1989.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Debee (Craig) Puppe, Plano, Texas; sons, Gordon (Kiki), Layton, Utah, Wesley, Coppell, Texas, Wayne, Grafton, N.D., and Allen (Trina), Minto; a grandson; four stepgrandchildren; and sisters, Evelyn (Edwin) Plutowski, Ardoch, N.D., Marie Lizakowski, Grand Forks, and Delores (Danny) Burianek, Grafton.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ray Lizakowski.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Minto.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Henriksen-Kamrowski Funeral Home, Grafton, and one hour before services in the church.

James R. 'Jim' Rongen
CROOKSTON -- James R. "Jim" Rongen, 56, Crookston, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at home.
James Rodney Rongen was born May 9, 1942, in Minneapolis. He grew up near Fertile, Minn., and was raised by his grandparents, Brown and Clara Rongen. He attended rural schools and graduated from high school in Fertile, in 1960. He worked at Ramstad's Service Station, Fertile. He married Gladys Fay Balstad on Sept. 17, 1960, in Baltrami, Minn. They lived in Fertile until moving to Crookston, where he worked at Saul Motors. In 1965 ,he began working at American Crystal Sugar Co. in Crookston. He was a charter member of the Crookston Pirate Boosters Club.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Debbie (Tim) Wold and Brenda (Tom) Kraft, both of Crookston, and Christy (Darin) Carltrom, East Grand Forks; seven grandchildren; his step-father, Ervin Pederson, Fertile; his mother-in-law, Edith Balstad, Beltrami; and sisters-in-law, Barbara (Rogers) Anderson, Bloomington, Minn., and Maxine (Kermit) Wobschall, Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Junice Rongen Pederson; and his father-in-law, Ed Balstad.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Crookston.

Beatrice Embury
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Beatrice Embury, 85, Thief River Falls, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Beatrice L. Van Oss was born April 25, 1913, the daughter of Maxime and Anna (Pederson) Van Oss, in Waubun, Minn. She graduated from high school in Minot. She married Russel Embury on April 30, 1938, in Stillwater, Minn.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Stephen (Kristin), Half Moon Bay, Calif.; four grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Sudow, Albuquerque, N.M.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and sisters, Ida Peterson, Margaret Friend and Florence Truax.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, United Methodist Church, Thief River Falls.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, Green Funeral Home, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Ralph J. Peterson
DEVILS LAKE -- Ralph J. Peterson, 67, Devils Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, in Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Ralph Joseph Peterson was born Aug. 20, 1931, the son of Joseph and Clara (Erma) Verschure, in Devils Lake, where he graduated from high school in 1949. He graduated from Lake Region Community College, Devils Lake, and attended North Dakota State University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Betty Lou Anderson on Sept. 10, 1954, in Fargo. They lived on his parents' farmstead in Devils Lake, where they farmed until retiring in 1998. From 1970 to 1995, he sold Christmas trees known as Peterson's Perfect Pines.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Shannon Sue (James) Forseth, Phoenix; sons, Randy Joe (Linda), Kobe, Japan, and Steven Scott, Williston; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to noon today, Gilbertson Funeral Home, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.
Myrtle Amundrud
FAIRDALE, N.D. -- Myrtle Amundrud, 76, Fairdale, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River, N.D.
Myrtle Gutterud was born June 3, 1922, the daughter of Thorvald and Minnie (Thune) Gutterud, in Fairdale, where she attended school. She later attended high school in Grand Forks. She married Clayton Verke on April 11, 1942. He was killed in World War II. She married Ernest Amundrud on Aug. 6, 1948, in Crookston. They lived in Fairdale. In 1952, they moved to Park River; in 1956, they moved to Edinburg, N.D.; and in 1959, they returned to Fairdale.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Richard, Fairdale; two grandchildren; a brother, Melvin (Margaret), Park River; and a sister, Rosanna Johnsrud, Bloomington, Minn.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Ted and Raymond.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, Fairdale.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Tollefson Funeral Home, Edinburg, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Aadalen Lutheran Cemetery, Fairdale.
