Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Raymond O. Tufte was born
May 10, 1927, the son of John and Gertie (Lillegren) Tufte, in Clara Township, Nelson County, N.D., near Lakota, where he graduated from high school in 1945. He married
Lucille Johnson on Nov. 15, 1951, in Lakota. They farmed in Clara Township until retiring in 1996. They moved to Lakota in 1988.
He is survived by his wife; and a son, Ronald, Lakota.
Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Lakota Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Lakota Cemetery.
Lillian Stull
ST. THOMAS, N.D. -- Lillian Stull, 88, St. Thomas, died
Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in Unity Medical Center, Grafton, N.D.
Lillian Wang was born
Oct. 5, 1909, the daughter of Henry and Myrtle (Harrington) Wang, in Frazee, Minn., where she graduated from high school. She married
Myron Stull on July 16, 1931, in Cavalier, N.D. They farmed in the Glasston, N.D., area. Myron Stull died
May 23, 1978. In the fall of 1978, she moved to St. Thomas. She was a resident of the Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton.
She is survived by daughters, Carol (David) Kidwell, Panama City, Fla., and Sharron Davis, Grafton; a son, Scott, St. Thomas; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Verda Cole, Freeze; and a half sister, Connie Fischer, Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death
by a grandson; a sister; and two brothers.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Jensen-Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in the funeral home.
Burial: Glasston Cemetery.
Lowell Hawkinson
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Lowell Hawkinson, 83, Thief River Falls, died
Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Lowell Hawkinson was born
Dec. 14, 1914, the son of Harry and Ida (Anderson) Hawkinson, in Bray Township, Pennington County, Minn. He attended school in St. Hilaire, Minn. He married
Vernice Priebe on Dec. 31, 1948, in Thief River Falls. He farmed the family farm until the mid-1960s, when he began working for Steiger Manufacturing. He later worked for Arctic Cat. They lived on the farm until 1968, when they moved to St. Hilaire. They moved to Thief River Falls in 1992. Vernice Hawkinson died
March 18, 1993.
He is survived by a son, Howard, Thief River Falls; a daughter, Kathy Panek, Goodridge, Minn.; a son-in-law, Steve Panek, Goodridge; a daughter-in-law, Candy Rude, Thief River Falls; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by a sister, Fern Barstad.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Black River Church, Polk Centre Township, Pennington County.
Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.

Rev. James D. Sanko
GRAFTON-MINTO, N.D. -- The Rev. James D. Sanko, 70, formerly of the Grafton-Minto area, died
Sept. 6, Los Gatos, Calif.
James David Sanko was born
Feb. 22, 1928, the son of George and Catherine Sanko, in Ford City, Pa. He graduated from Ford City High School, Grove City College and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He did graduate work at New College, Edinburg, Scotland, Heidelberg University, Germany, and Pitt University, Pittsburgh. He served in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps. He was ordained a minister of the Presbyterian Church in 1959. He served in parishes in Wellsville and Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Grafton-Minto. After retiring, he served as interim pastor at Haines, Alaska. He married
Patricia Fester Sanko.
He is survived by his wife; sons, George, Okeana, Okla., and M. Ewan, Evergreen, Colo.; a daughter, Karen Stitcher, Pinecrest, Fla.; six grandchildren; a brother, George, Vista, Calif.; and sisters, Delores Tenerowicz, Azusa, Calif., and Kathryn Owens, Salem, Conn.
Services: 3: 30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, in Presbyterian Church, Los Gatos.

Paul E. Steinke
CAVALIER, N.D. -- Paul E. Steinke, 84, Cavalier, died
Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier.
Paul Edward Steinke was born
July 27, 1914, the son of Fred and Pauline (Schlinder) Steinke, in Neche, N.D. He attended school in Hamilton,N.D. and the Cranley school. He served in the U.S. Army. He married
Margaret Mae Rose on June 12, 1942, in Cavalier. He farmed in the Cavalier area until his retirement in 1977. Margaret Steinke died
Oct. 26, 1990.
He is survived by sons, Ronald (Judy), Cavalier, James (Darlyn), Grand Forks, Warren, Kansas City, Mo., and Richard (Debbie), Marion, Mont.; daughters, Donna (Herb) Hillman and Ruth Webster, both of Minneapolis; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and sisters, Wanda Kesser, Minneapolis, Lydia Williams, Red Lake Falls, Minn., Olive Wharton, Wilson, Okla., and Ruby (Ralph) Rustan, Edinburg, N.D.
He was preceded in death
by a son-in-law, John Webster; a grandson; a brother, William; and a sister, Emma Radu.

Leif Gleason
TOLNA, N.D.-- Leif Gleason, 89, Tolna, died
Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at home.
Leif Gleason was born
Oct. 4, 1908, the son of Kasper and Pernille (Nabben) Gleason, in Hamar, N.D., where he attended school. He married
Rachel Tufto on Sept. 3, 1938, in New Rockford, N.D. They lived and farmed in the Hamar area. Rachel Gleason died
May 25, 1992.
He is survived by daughters, Gloria (Ray) Burkhard, Devils Lake, Leona (Walter) Pederson, Fosston, Minn., Marlys Enstad, Fargo, and Esther (Ivan) Hackley, Reynolds, N.D.; sons, Clifford and Odin (Joan), both of Tolna; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Gina Eiene, Tolna, Inga Hettervig, Kent, Wash., and Agnes (Philip) Peterson, Climax, Minn.; and brothers, Edward and Henry, both of Tolna.
He was preceded in death
by three infant children; a great-granddaughter; and four brothers.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday in Sigdal Lutheran Church, Tolna.

Diane Mitchell

Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in St. Angar's Hospital, Park River, N.D.
Diane Enid Arneson was born
May 14, 1940, the daughter of Albert and Inga (Roa) Arneson, in Lawton, N.D. She attended high school in Edmore, N.D. She married
Gerald "Gary" Mitchell on Dec. 24, 1957, in Crookston. They lived in Edmore, Whitman and Page, N.D., Oklee and Grygla, Minn., and Bruce, S.D., before moving to Fordville in 1984.
She is survived by her husband; sons, James (Marla), Elkton, S.D., and Brian (RoxAnne), Grafton, N.D.; a daughter, Julie (Brad) Rachac, Fordville; eight grandchildren; a sister, Ione Shirek, Lankin, N.D.; and brothers, Paul, Vista, Calif., and Jon of Japan.
She was preceded in death
by her parents; and brothers, Allen, Harold and Robert.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Fordville Lutheran Church.

Arthur Asp
THIEF RIVER FALLS -- Arthur Asp, 88, Thief River Falls, died
Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in the Convalescent Nursing Care Unit in Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Arthur Raymond Asp was born
Aug. 1, 1910, the son of Charles Otto and Inga Josephine (Iverson) Asp, in McIntosh, Minn. He moved with his family to Rocksbury Township, Pennington County, Minn. He attended schools in the Thief River Falls area. He worked on farms in North Dakota in the summers of 1928 and 1929. He returned to Thief River Falls, where he farmed with his brother. He joined the U.S. Army serving from June 1941 to December 1945. He married
Lillie Langelett on July 2, 1949, in Thief River Falls, where they lived and farmed.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Karen (Dave) Gustafson, Wyoming, Virginia (Rod) Shand, Fargo, and Carol Beck, Eveleth, Minn.; sons, Alvin (Robin) Asp and Ken (Key), both of Thief River Falls, Marvin, Grand Forks, and Harvey, Fargo; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Barbara (Ted) Galambos, St. Louis Park, Minn.; and brothers, Charles (Esther), San Marcos, Calif., David (Ardis), Austin, Minn., and Paul (Wilma), Wheaton, Ill.
He was preceded in death
by brothers, Oliver, Harold, James, George, Robert and Bjarne; and a sister, Mildred Peterson.

Jasmine Lynn Sabbe
MADDOCK, N.D. -- Jasmine Lynn Sabbe, 5-month-old daughter of Jackie Fossen and Terry Sabbe, Maddock, died

Jasmine Lynn Sabbe was born
March 25, 1998, the daughter of Jackie (Maddock) Fossen and Terry Sabbe, in Rugby, N.D.
She is survived by her parents; brothers, Mitchell and Kyle Fossen, and Alex Sabbe, all at home; grandparents, Phyllis Maddock, Maddock, Dean and Fern Sabbe, Casper, Wyo.; and a great-grandfather, Spencer Sabbe, Maddock.
She was preceded in death
by her grandfather, Joseph Maddock.

Edward 'Eddy' Grabinski
Edward "Eddy" Grabinski, 71, 2630 Fourth Ave. N., died
Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at home.
Edward Daniel Grabinski was born
July, 21, 1927, the son of Leo and Angela (Korynta) Grabinski, in Ardoch, N.D., where he attended school. He married
Maxine Smith on Jan. 27, 1948, in East Grand Forks. They moved to Grand Forks, where he worked for Associated Potato Growers. He also owned and operated a construction business. He retired in 1983.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Sharon (Gary) Nelson, Grand Forks; a son, Donald (Lynn), East Grand Forks; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a brother, Hilary, Grand Forks; and sisters, Del Derrick and Delores Pederson, both of East Grand Forks.
He was preceded in death
by a sister, Frances.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Friday, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Grand Forks.

Idyll Lucille Sannes was born
Sept. 16, 1923, the daughter of Olivier and Mable (Johnson) Sannes, in Edinburg, N.D. She graduated from high school in Park River, N.D. She married
Czar Hertzelle on May 24, 1941, in Grafton, N.D. They moved to Grand Forks in 1946. Czar Hertzelle died
Jan. 23, 1990.
She is survived by sons, Roger (Patricia) and Marlin (Cheryl), both of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Cheryl Boden, St. Louis; six grandchildren; brothers, Lyle, Marion, Iowa, and Gerald, Orange, Calif.; and sisters, Blanche Koch, Steilacoom, Wash., and Maryann Sannes, Orange.
She was preceded in death
by five brothers and two sisters.
Services: 5: 30 p.m. Friday, Calvary Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, and 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Memorial Park Cemetery, Park River.
