Tuesday, July 28, 1998, in Missouri Slope Lutheran Home, Bismarck.
Jesse Francis Kringstad was born
July 3, 1915, the son of Ole and Jennie (McDaniels) Kringstad, in Adams-Fairdale, N.D., area, where he attended school. He married
Gladys Melland on June 20, 1941, in Grafton, N.D. They moved to Hoople in the early 1950s. He worked for Hoople Potato Products, Dennis Folson, and Fagerholt and Jackson Farms, all of Hoople.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Gene (Alice), Hoople, Roy (Renee), Drayton, N.D., Steve, Fargo, and Rick and John (Jennie), both of Bismarck; daughters, Gloria Kringstad, Park River, N.D., Ellen (Charles) Glood, Rapid City, S.D., Pam (Craig) Evert, Casper, Wyo., and Cindi (Mike) Gaylord, Bismarck; 24 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by a daughter; a son; four brothers; and two sisters.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, First Lutheran Church, Hoople.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Tollefson Funeral Home, Grafton, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Hoople City Cemetery.
Karnes Fyre
MAYVILLE, N.D. -- Karnes Fyre, 63, Mayville, died
Tuesday, July 28, 1998, in Tri-County Nursing Home, Hatton, N.D..
Karnes Fyre was born
Jan. 12, 1935, the son of Garfield and Etta (Kensrud) Fyre, in Portland, N.D., where he attended school. He farmed with his uncle until 1977, when he retired. He married
Anna Ford on Dec. 27, 1978, in Ada, Minn. He worked for American Crystal Sugar in the fall of 1978. They lived on the farm near Portland until 1992, when they moved into Mayville.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Andrew Shillinger, Utica, N.Y.; brothers, Gary, Otis Orchards, Wash., Donald, Everett, Wash., and Richard, Barrett, Minn.; and a sister, Lila Jean Gunderson, Mayville.
He was preceded in death
by his parents.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Audral Lutheran Church, Portland.
Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. today, Baker Funeral Home, Mayville.
Burial: Audral Cemetery.
Dora Spain
Dora Spain, 84, 622 Central Ave., East Grand Forks, died
Monday, July 27, 1998, at home.
Dora Evelyn Hauger was born
Dec. 15, 1913, the daughter of Nickoli and Beatta (Messelt) Hauger, in Plaza, N.D. She was raised by her aunt and uncle in Niagara, N.D., where she attended school. She moved to Grand Forks in 1955. She worked as a sales clerk at Herbergers. She married
John Byron "Spike" Spain on June 4, 1958, in East Grand Forks, where they lived. He died
Feb. 17, 1981.
She is survived by a brother, Lloyd (Camilla) Hauger, Badger, Minn.; and a sister, Olive Yahnke, Lebanon, Ore.
She was preceded in death
by brothers, Norrie and Raymond; and sisters, Hazel Rindahl and Mabel Olson.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Norman Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, and one hour before services in the church.

Merle Peter Kroetsch
Merle Peter Kroetsch was born
Jan. 14, 1949, the son of Linus and Dorothy (Girodat) Kroetsch, in Langdon, N.D., where he graduated from high school in 1967. He worked for Langdon Motors and Cavalier County (N.D.) Memorial Hospital. He began farming in 1976. He married
Betty Zettel on July 10, 1971, in Langdon.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Brian, Grand Forks; a daughter, Amy, Grand Forks; his mother,
Langdon; brothers, Wayne and Carl, both of Grand Forks, Gary and Kenneth, both of Fargo, and Laverne, Lyons, Kan.; and sisters, Janice Rohde, Fargo, Donna Green, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Anna Fischer, West Fargo.
He was preceded in death
by a son, Jason; and his father.

Shelly Dahlen
DAHLEN, N.D. -- Shelly Dahlen, 31, Dahlen, died
Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
Shelly Ann Dahlen was born
Jan. 15, 1967, the daughter of Raymond and Lee Ann (Machovsky) Dahlen, in Park River, N.D. She graduated from high school in Fordville, N.D. She attended UND Lake Region, Devils Lake, majoring in computer science in 1986. She worked at Pamida Store, Grafton, N.D., and recently was employed by the Dahlen Fire Department, in the gaming operation, and by the Detour Bar, Lankin, N.D.
She is survived by her father, Park River; and a brother, Marlen, Dahlen.
She was preceded in death
by her mother; and grandparents, Tony and Agnes Machovsky and Emil and Lila Dahlen.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Thursday, Dahlen Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Bakke Funeral Home, Fordville, and one hour before services in the church.

Theodore 'Ted' Buck Jr.
MANVEL, N.D. -- Theodore "Ted" Buck Jr., 57, Manvel, died
Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, at home.
Ted Buck was born
June 22, 1941, the son of Theodore and Lillian (Smith) Buck, in Grand Forks. He grew up and attended school in Manvel.
He is survived by his mother, Manvel; brothers, Maynard (Libby), Manvel, Dennis (Carol), Grand Forks, and Brian (Wanda), St. Cloud; and sisters, Beverly (Duane) Obright, St. Anthony, Minn., and Nancy Buck, Fargo.
He was preceded in death
by his father.

Irven L. Berg
DEVILS LAKE -- Irven L. Berg, 68, Devils Lake, died
Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake.
Irven L. Berg was born
Sept. 19, 1929, the son of Johnny and Henritta Walker, in Sydney, Mont. At the age of two, he was adopted by Gustaf and Anna (Bostrom) Berg. He was raised and attended school in Devils Lake, graduating in 1948. He married
Evonne Kelly on Sept. 22, 1956, in Devils Lake. He was a jack-of-all-trades, and worked several years as a plumber, electrician, carpenter and construction worker. He was employed by Wal-Mart Stores of Devils Lake.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Debbie (Bill) Henderson, Clear Lake, Minn., Dianne Thomas (George Sperr), Donnelly, Minn., LuAnn (Jim) Carlson, Urbandale, Iowa, Tammy (Tim) Wimer, Lawton, N.D., Kim (Ben) Stawn, Denton, Texas, and Candace Berg, Grand Forks; sons, Allen (Jo), West Fargo, Tim (Terri), Phoenix, and Jeff (Pam), Rock Lake, N.D.; 19 grandchildren; and sisters, Violet Ryan, Wickenburg, Ariz., and Lucille Chichester, Whittman, Ariz.
He was preceded in death
by his parents; a grandson; brothers, John and Glenn; and a sister, Dorothy Walker.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, First Baptist Church, Devils Lake.

Gerda M. Nelson
CUMMINGS, N.D. -- Gerda M. Nelson, 89, formerly of Cummings, died
Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in a Fargo hospital.
Gerda Madeline Haugstad was born
Jan. 7, 1909, the daughter of Berndt and Anna (Thompson) Haugstad, in Cummings, where she attended school. She married
Nobel Nelson on Sept. 14, 1929, in Fargo. They lived in Hendrum, Minn. In 1942, they moved to San Francisco, where she worked in the shipyards and as a welder. In 1944, they returned to Hendrum, where she worked in a restaurant and meat market. They later moved to Shelly, Minn., where she worked in a meat market. In 1961, they moved to Glyndon, Minn. In 1977, they moved to Moorhead, and became residents of Park View Terrace. Nobel Haugstad died
July 28, 1996.
She is survived by a son, Dennis (Elaine), Northwood, N.D.; daughters, Gloria Bulson, Breckenridge, Minn., Shirley (Lennard) Sorenson, Crookston, and Viola (Burton) Sorenson, Fargo; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Tess Grover, Redlands, Calif., and Jean (Mel) Eidsmoe, Moorhead; and a brother, Berdin "Bud," Halstad, Minn.
She was preceded in death
by two sons; a grandson; and a sister, Beulah Martindale.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Glyndon Lutheran Church, and 3 p.m. Thursday, Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Cummings.

Harold 'Bud' Zoldahn
DRAYTON, N.D. -- Harold "Bud" Zoldahn, 76, Drayton, died
Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in Lutheran Sunset Home, Grafton, N.D.
Harold John Zoldahn was born
March 21, 1922, the son of August Karl and Lillian Grace (Harlow) Zoldahn, in Drayton. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He farmed in the Drayton and Bowesmont, N.D., area all his life.
He is survived by his brother, Karl, Drayton; and sisters, Darlene (Floyd) Johnson, St. Thomas, N.D., and Ruth Engelbrekston, Pleasant Hills, Calif.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Drayton United Methodist Church.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Adamson-Austin Funeral Home, Drayton, and one hour before services in the church.

Myrtle Hedlund
EDINBURG, N.D. -- Myrtle Hedlund, 90, Edinburg, died
Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in St. Ansgar's Health Center, Park River, N.D.
Myrtle Tollefson was born
June 28, 1908, the daughter of Truls and Clara (Kveseth) Tollefson, in Adams, N.D. She attended school in Walsh County, N.D. She worked in Grafton, N.D. She married
Iver Hedlund on Oct. 17, 1932, in Grafton. They made their home in Adams. In 1957, they moved to Edinburg. Iver Hedlund died
Dec. 31, 1967.
She is survived by a daughter, Alida (Harold) Flom, Edinburg, and Lorraine (Gene) Weberg, Grafton; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mabel Charon, Boise, Idaho.
She was preceded in death
by two great-grandchildren; three sisters; and two brothers.
Services: 10: 30 a.m. Saturday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Edinburg.

Hildur Lindly
DAHLEN, N.D. -- Hildur Lindly, 87, Dahlen, died
Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in Park River, N.D.
Hildur Swanson was born
June 28, 1911, the daughter of Martin and Sappho (Hammer) Swanson, in Elkmount Township, Grand Forks County, where she attended school. She married
James "Jim" Lindly on June 30, 1928, in Medford, Wis. They moved to Grand Forks County, where they farmed near Dahlen. They moved into Dahlen in 1948. James "Jim" Lindly died
Oct. 30, 1990. She moved to Good Samaritan Center, Park River, Aug. 30, 1995.
She is survived by daughters, Avis (William) Jehlicka, Fordville, and Kathleen (Gilmen) Northagen, Michigan, N.D.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Victor, Grand Forks.
She was preceded in death
by daughters, Grace Rude, and an infant; a son, Lyle; and four sisters.
Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Bakke Funeral Chapel, Fordville.
Visitation: One hour before services in the chapel.
Burial: Inkster (N.D.) Cemetery
