Charles Bell
CRYSTAL, N.D. -- Charles Bell, 62, Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Crystal, died May 26, 1998, of cancer at his home.
Charles Robert Bell was born Oct. 12, 1935, the son of Robert and Catherine (Colby) Bell, in Crystal.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda; a son, Robert, Sacramento; a daughter, Karla (Gene) Moore, Sacramento; stepchildren, Linda Arnette-Steele, and Blake Steele; seven grandchildren; his mother, Sacramento; and a sister, Linda Polowski, San Diego.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services: Were held in Fair Oaks, Calif.
Burial: East Lawn Sierra Hills Memorial Park.
Nora-belle Nomeland
COOPERSTOWN, N.D. -- Nora-belle Nomeland, 71, Cooperstown, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Nora-belle Desjarlias was born June 25, 1926, the daughter of John and Margaret (Shserrt) Desjarlias, in Belcourt, N.D. She graduated From high school in Marty, S.D. She married Rusty Nomeland on Feb. 28, 1950, in Fargo. They lived in various towns before moving to Cooperstown in 1976.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Darrell, Minneapolis; a grandson; sisters, Ida Belgrade, Belcourt, and Margaret Houle, Grand Forks; and brothers, Lawrence, Belcourt, and Joseph and Frankie, both of Spokane, Wash.
Services: 9 a.m. today, in Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown.
Burial: Hero Cemetery.
Kathleen 'Kathy' Disrud
ROLLA, N.D. -- Kathleen "Kathy" Disrud, 50, Rolla, died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at home.
Kathleen Ellen Alm was born Oct. 3, 1947, the daughter of Robert and Sally (Orr) Alm, in Columbus, Ohio. She attended school in Crown Point, Ind. She received her bachelor's degree in history from Monmouth (Ill.) College, and her master's degree in library science from Rosary College, River Forest, Ill. She continued her education with several correspondence courses. She married Trenton Disrud on Aug. 25, 1970, in Wheaton, Ill. They made their home in Rolla, where she taught.
She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Rebecca, Union, W. Va.; her mother, Union, W. Va.; and brothers, David, Downers Grove, Ill., and James, Boulder, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services: Will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to The Mount Pleasant Foundation (Niewoehner, Rolla).
Irene 'Trudy' Coulter
Irene "Trudy" Coulter, 86, 208 Second St. N.W., East Grand Forks, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Irene Hanson was born Jan. 14, 1912, the daughter of Frederick and Mary (Tiedmann) Hanson, in East Grand Forks, where she attended school. She married Don Coulter on June 19, 1943, in Crookston. He died April 14, 1966. They lived in East Grand Forks their entire lives.
She is survived by a son Don (Loretta), East Grand Forks; daughters, Susan (Ronald) Hann, Crookston, and Sherry (Gary) Metzger, East Grand Forks; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son Gary; sisters Clara and Jackie; and brothers, Walt, Russell, Donald.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, in First Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks.
Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Arvid Olson
DEVILS LAKE -- Arvid Olson, 74, Devils Lake, died Saturday, June, 6, 1998, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Arvid William Olson was born Nov. 25, 1923, the son of Martin and Sophia (Petersen) Olson, in Norma, N.D., where he attended school. He worked at Farmers Union and Kenmare Creameries, both in Kenmare, N.D. He worked for Alm's Dairy, in Minot. He later worked for the Minot Public Schools. In January 1972, he moved to Devils Lake, where he worked for the North Dakota School for the Deaf until retiring in 1993. He married Jeanette Haugen on July 29, 1967, in Minot.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Lesli Olson, Devils Lake; an adopted son, Ryan Hulst, Devils Lake; an adopted grandson; sisters, Muriel Bauer, Spokane, Wash., and Arlene Fitzmaurice, Minot; and a brother, Donovan Olson, Kenmare.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to noon, Thursday, in Gilbertson Funeral Home, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.
Joyce Schultz
Joyce Schultz, 63, 110 Cherry St., died Sunday, June 7, 1998, in Northwood, N.D.
Joyce Arlene Danielson was born April 19, 1935, the daughter of Oscar and Fern (Cooper) Danielson, in Grand Forks, where she graduated from high school. She worked for the Grand Forks American Legion and VFW. She recently worked for the Adopted Grandmother program and several day cares in Grand Forks.
She is survived by a son, Gary (Sharon), Osnabrock, N.D., and Mark, Erskine, Minn.; two grandchildren; her father, Grand Forks; a brother, Darrel, Grand Forks; and a sister, Clara Aichele of Illinois.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean; her mother; and a sister, Carol.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Amundson Funeral Home, Grand Forks.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: Sunnywood Gardens Cemetery, Grand Forks.
Virginia 'Ginny' Miller
WEBSTER, N.D. -- Virginia "Ginny" Miller, 48, Fargo, formerly of Webster, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
Virginia Lee Miller was born Dec. 10, 1949, the daughter of Clarence and Bernyce (Nelson) Miller, in Devils Lake. She attended school in Webster and Fargo. She held several jobs in Fargo. She entered the MeritCare Hospice Program in April 1998.
She is survived by her father and stepmother, Clarence and Emma Miller, Devils Lake; brothers, Ed and Nick, both of Devils Lake, Tim, Fargo, and Allan, Cando, N.D.; a sister, Rose Windjue, Devils Lake; and half sisters, Ruby Oakley, Monroni, Utah, Linda Emmett, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Barb Strate, Spring City, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her mother; a half brother, Jonathan Basil; and grandparents, Ragner and Freda Nelson and Eva and Arthur Miller.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Wednesday in the funeral home.

Esther Edson
DEVILS LAKE -- Esther Edson, 83, Devils Lake, died Friday, June 5, 1998, in Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake, where she had lived since July 1993.
Esther Elisa Laity was born June 7, 1914, the daughter of William and Emma (Moilanen) Laity, in Hibbing, Minn., where she attended school. She married Ralph Watson February 1932. She married Andrew Edson in September 1952. She worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corp, in California during World War II. She worked for the Lake Theatre in Devils Lake. Andrew Edson preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Gerry (Milton) Wagness, Lakota, N.D.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Arvi and Benhart.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Aaker, Dunnigan & Brooks Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, in the funeral home.
Burial: Enterprise Cemetery, Brocket, N.D.
Orrin Cox
CRARY, N.D. -- Orrin Cox, 79, Crary, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, in Crary.
Orrin Cox was born Aug. 11, 1919, the son of John and Cora (Perkins) Cox, in Crary, where he attended school. He joined the U.S. Army on March 27, 1942. He married Margaret Ruth Stevenson on May 26, 1944, in Mountsorrel Leicestershire, England. He was discharged from the services on Aug. 30, 1945. He was awarded a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. He returned to North Dakota, where he farmed with his father. In 1947, they moved to Crary, and continued farming.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Orrin Richard (Carol), Kent, Wash, and Barry David (Judy), Warwick, N.D.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Blanch Frith, Devils Lake, Mildred Mertens, Fargo, and Mary Jane Pershke, Crary; and brothers, Edward, Devils Lake, and John Jr., Seattle.
He was preceded in death by a grandson; and a brother, Ralph.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, in St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake.
Visitation: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer services, and 9 a.m. to Noon Tuesday, in Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Devils Lake Cemetery.
Hazel A. Carlson
DEVILS LAKE -- Hazel A. Carlson, 85, Devils Lake, formerly of Oberon, N.D., died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at home.
Hazel Adeline Hanson was born April 22, 1913, the daughter of Hans and Maria (Olson) Hanson, in Grandfield Township, Eddy County, rural Sheyenne, N.D. She graduated from high school in Oberon in 1931, and from Valley City (N.D.) State Teachers College. She taught in the Lake View District rural schools. She married Hilding Carlson on June 8, 1938, in Devils Lake. They lived in Oberon, where they owned and operated the Service Garage and the Chevrolet dealership, retiring in 1963. In 1977, they moved to Devils Lake. Hilding Carlson died Oct. 16, 1980.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Lynn (Jack) Dykstra, Great Falls, Mont.; three grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; a brother, Ever, Oberon; and a sister, Nina Gray, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a son, H. Dale.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, in Calvary Lutheran Church, Oberon.
Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and 9 to 11 a.m. Monday in Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Hillside Cemetery, Oberon. Memorials are suggested to Calvary Lutheran Church, Oberon Cemetery or Mercy Hospice.
Glenn R. Thompson
BEMIDJI -- Glenn R. Thompson, 86, Bemidji, formerly of Puposky, Minn., died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, in South Suburban Care Center, Farmington, Minn.
Glenn Randall Thompson was born May 20, 1912, the son of Curtis and Mona (Randall) Thompson, in Los Angeles. He moved with his family to Puposky. He attended schools in Pleasant Valley, and graduated high school in Cass Lake, Minn., in 1931. He returned to Puposky and worked with his father in farming and trucking. He married Dorothy Fenske on June 9, 1940, in Carr Lake, Minn. They lived in Pleasant Valley. He worked for the Beltrami County (Minn.) Highway Department from 1961 to 1977, when he retired. Dorothy Thompson died July 27, 1986.
He is survived by daughters, Annette (Gary) Jones, Denver, and Sandra (Harvey) Olson, Rosemount, Minn.; two grandchildren; and a brother, Delbert, Pleasanton, Calif.
He was preceded in death by a brother; and a sister.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, in Bethel Lutheran Church, Bemidji.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. today, in Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Alaska Township Cemetery, Beltrami County, Minn.
Lura Howard
CANDO, N.D. -- Lura Howard, 85, Cando, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, in Towner County Medical Center, Cando.
Lura Kathryn Hinegardner was born Aug. 3, 1913, the daughter of Luther and Ella (Mills) Hinegardner, in Sarles, N.D. She attended school in Sarles and Hans-
boro, N.D., and graduated from high school in Cando. She moved to Cando in 1927. She married Milton Howard on Oct. 23, 1932, in Zion, N.D. They lived in Cando. Milton Howard died Feb. 16, 1982. She moved to Resthaven Healthcare Center on March 7, 1994.
She is survived by sons, John (Beverly), Carrington, N.D., and Robert (Betty), Elkhart, Ind.; a daughter, Ella Kay Reed, Grafton, N.D.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Hope Lervold, Palo Alto, Calif.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Jack and Reuben; and a sister, Velma Stanfield.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Church of the Brethren, Cando.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, in Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home, Cando, and one hour before services in the church.
